161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to audit the mtgox and mybitoin? on: June 26, 2011, 04:46:34 AM
They would have to publish their wallet addresses (and then anyone can see how much is in the wallets), and then they could send small transaction amounts to a trusted party from each wallet to prove they had control of the wallets.

So let's call this method AT("Appointed Transaction").So what if I have a lot of bitcoin, and I provide some service which are virtually illegal and immoral like this:

"I have 100000 bitcoins. If you wants to prove to other people you have such amout of coins, I will help you with AT auditing process. The price is 2% of the amout you want to be apparently under your control. My contact information is LiarHeaven@XXXX.XXX.
162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Request for input into name of Bitcoin backed digital cash on: June 26, 2011, 04:39:51 AM
I don't approve with "100% anonymous" in your digital cash system.

If someone want to be anonymous, he will just use bitcoin on a Tor.

Your system is about fast, cheap and reliable. Being reliable means you have to cooperate with GOV. Yes, maybe some of the bitcoiner don't like GOV, but lots of the users are just buying coffee and T-shirt with bitcoin, they don't mind that much to be under regulated by GOV, as we always are in our daily life. we just want a kind of currency that won't be inflationary as much as GOV want.

And if you're not cooperative with GOV, most of the business in the real world are not dare to accept your payment service, which would bring a lot of potential legal risk to them.

So keep the track record and identity information of your client, keep it highly confidential. If the GOV want it and have the permission from the court, hand it to them. Yes, You will lose some highly private guys, but you will be welcomed by much larger group of people.
163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How to audit the mtgox and mybitoin? on: June 26, 2011, 04:29:54 AM
This is not really a post concerning about mybitcoin, but about the future of the bitcoin economy.
The service like mybitcoin is no doubt to play a very import role in the future. I guess we need audit firm such  as KPMG, PWC to audit the asset which these service provider should have. So is it possible for an audit firm to check whether mybitcoin has those numbers of bitcoin, but at the same time, preventing the auditor  from copy  the private key that mybitcoin have?

164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Camp BX Hacker / Compliance Security Audit on: June 25, 2011, 07:39:07 PM
Yeah, it isn't like I didn't do a full WHOIS on them when they first posted. If only there was a way to search forum posts.... hmm....

If only.....

Then you'll find the address Smiley

[/quote]

I found it.
But I guess they could make some "contact us" on the web site, make it official and easy to find.

If you provide a Postal Address information in United States, you will earn a great advantage in trustworthiness over those exchange hold in Chile and Japan.
If they offer full transparency I think they have a really good shot at taking over the entire market.

I don't understand those exchanges why the hell they want to hide the real world information of themselves, such as address, an official phone number, company registering information, etc, from the public. Don't they know these information support the confidence of the people who trade on the platform?

Campbx has very positive sign to be professional, responsible and transparent. Just do it better.
166  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What does the community need for this summer (2011)? on: June 25, 2011, 07:18:54 PM
@cablestudios: I think I may not be involved in these kind of huge project. I mean I cannot take risks at buying/selling house with Bitcoin because this is a very serious business and involves contracts for example. Moreover I don't think there was any house selling with Bitcoin yet. But I may make the web site which could serve as selling and buying platform. If there are people interested I would be happy to develop a such kind of site.

@qikaifu: Services like banks and paypal are seriously risky and involves big responsibility, we can see the mess that the Mt.Gox issue created in the community because of the security problem (but they offer great services to the community). Again creating a web site is totally different than managing and assuming it. And you may say "Bitcoin is all about money so it is risky and you have to take the responsibility for any service you make". That's really true (I can see it now). When you say a bank you think of 'keeping Bitcoins safe', but anyone could do that. Maybe instead you would mean 'lend money'? For that you should have an investment for the base.

You mentioned the clearcoin and mybitcoin but how can they be improved, what features do they leak? Maybe you mean to merge them in an unique platform? The transactions today are quite slow for confirmations (I saw '6' in the code) but it doesn't mean you cannot spend them, you could wait only 1 confirmation (maybe by patching bitcoin). So the main advantage of mybitcoin is that you don't wait for your transactions to be confirmed (are they other?). But I think they are instantaneous only if the transactions were inside mybitcoin, right?

Still open to new ideas. Let them come Smiley

Maybe you mean to merge them in an unique platform?  Yes.

Lend money: yes, you can lend money to those exchanges which provide advantage trading services like short selling bitcoin.

Risk: I agree with you that the bitcoin is far more risky as it's money business. To overcome the problem maybe we need heavy initial investment, I guess several millions of USD. (Dropbox has a 1.5m seed capital.) Maybe we have to wait until the price of bitcoin become even higher, or someone can raise a angle capital to invest in solving the security problem. And maybe sound unrealistic,  I strongly suggest entrepreneur team have a single person to raise angle or venture investment as the  Silicon Valley early strat-up always does.

Instantaneous only if the transactions were inside mybitcoin: There will be strong network effect. If someone successful build a service like this, it will be the one like microsoft in bitcoin. For example, the alipay take great market share in China, and the paypal take great market share in USA. Both merchants and consumers like the convenience within the 3rd party payment platform.

Agreed- and Apple should give us all a free iPad to keep it's market share higher than any of the Android tablets. Wouldn't mind a free car from Ford to help sustain the image of American made cars either.

Ipad did make a price wall towards other kind of pad.
169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I think satoshi should donate more bitcoin to Bitcoin Faucet on: June 25, 2011, 06:17:41 PM
Not just keep it. He as the founder of the bitcoin system, have more responsibility than later adopters to make it widely adopted.
170  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What does the community need for this summer (2011)? on: June 25, 2011, 04:44:46 PM
Considering bitcoin as a kind of cash, we need services like bitcoin-bank, bitcoin-paypal, etc. For the consumers, the bitcoin need much easier and fast to spend online(we have to wait 30-60min for 6 confirmation now), and for the merchants, they need a payment service, too.

the clearcoin and mybitcoin is not good enough. I hope you can develop a better and professional one. And the payment service is the fundamental of the future of the bitcoin. If any merchants want to sell goods and by accepting bitcoin, i don't think they would like to just run it on the bitcoin 0.3.23... They of course don't want to wait for 30min until they are able to give their customer a confirmation that the payments are succeeful .

So if you believe the bitcoin is a huge idea, they payment and storage service is as huge as bitcoin itself.
171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Satoshi cannot hide himself if the gov really want to after him on: June 25, 2011, 04:21:53 PM
He had to sell his btc at some exchanges, and withdraw the USD. his early created bitcoin is easy to get attention if he moves them, and the government is very easy to ask the exchanges to provide the account information and wire information of Satoshi.

172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can Bitcoin help my people in Venezuela? on: June 25, 2011, 07:25:28 AM
I have family and friends in Venezuela who want to purchase computers and cameras from the US, but have a limit imposed by the government of 400.00 USD Max per year on On-line purchases. I do not live in Venezuela so I do not know any details of why this is so...Can Bitcoin Help? How about Cuba?

Maria.

Your friend can set up a porn site which accept and only accept bitcoin. Then he can buy computers and cameras at memorydealer.com directly, or just sold the bitcoin at tradehill.com or bitcoin7.com, then purchases the computer and camera.

174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Should Mt. Gox increase the time between opening and trading? on: June 23, 2011, 05:21:21 PM
mtgox has limited manpower and unlimited desire to make commissions.
175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Camp BX Platform in Beta: Margin Trading, Short Selling, and Advanced Orders on: June 23, 2011, 05:00:49 PM
Keyur,

I didn't say I necessarily wouldn't use it, just that I'd like to know all the bases are covered beforehand. That's why I asked what lawyer or legal firm advised you of the legalities of operating such a business in the USA, and if you were registered as an MSB.

"Trust us, it's legit" is what E-gold, Liberty Dollars, and a bunch of others said in the past. No one wants to get burned by this, and want to make sure you've done your homework. Sad

I do dig the site though, the hate on colorblind folks and the invalid-characters-in-passwords notwithstanding.

Elggawf,

Thank you for your kind words!   I certainly understand your concerns, and will talk to my counsel on how best we can provide more transparency and news about the compliance program to our users.

Thank you,
     Keyur

Keyur, I find your techy part of your exchange is the best among your fellow exchanges. However, I guess people still want you to cooperate with the authorities and lawyers better. For most of the bitcoin adopters, especially the investors, they don't need to hide their identity, why not be a more regulated exchange? In that way, you can accept individual traders, and you can also develop some broker network around the world, just like NASDAQ and NY exchanges.
176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox needs to give more time between reopening and starting trading. on: June 23, 2011, 04:13:44 PM
We all know that the bitcoin economy is still young and the major service providers are all fucking boys.
They're all irresponsible and unprofessional. Some of them are better at PR and lying than doing a good job.
so don't be disappointed by the mtgox, they are just one of the fucking ones.
There will soon be better service providers flourishing.
Take exchange service as example, the mtgox first, then tradehill(someone call it laghill), now we see campbx, and of course, there will be a even better one than campbx, which still have the 1000 USD limitation. Hopefully someone including campbx will work with the authorities and lawyers to solve the MSB&KYC things and other regulation things, then bitcoin will become even larger economy than now.

Just wait in patient, and withdraw all the fund. I'm not worried about Mtgox any more.

177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Default encryption for wallet.dat on: June 23, 2011, 01:46:15 PM
You know what, I guess Gavin will chose the last one. He didn't think the encrypt would be his first priority, which was mentioned in one of his blog after the heist of 25k bitcoin.
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / If google is providing mybitcoin services.. on: June 22, 2011, 08:16:54 PM
will you trust it and upload most if not all your bitcoin on google platform?

Why not try to contact google and other big internet giants to provide some basic services such as hold the bitcoin and transfer the bitcoin within the platform and without a real bitcoin transaction which is time consuming?
179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the most important next step for a better functioning bitcoin economy? on: June 22, 2011, 07:38:56 PM
THE ONLY WAY BITCOIN WILL EVER FUNCTION AS AN ECONOMY WILL BE IF IT IS REGARDED AS A CURRENCY, RATHER THAN A VOLATILE BUBBLE COMMODITY.

Reasonable. But I do feel that the bubble help bitcoin find its way to be widely accepted.
180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Opening a BitCoin exchange is futile - ready why on: June 22, 2011, 07:32:26 PM
The law is irrelevant. The banks will use the governments to their ends and that will eventually include making it difficult for people to purchase Bitcoins.

Then banks should do this before too many people start to have bitcoin, where U.S.A is under democratic ideology.
