You can buy options for passthrough at bitfunder or btct.  I've shares at both of the passthrough.  Willing to entertain offers.

Been looking, option volumes are thin (and expensive) on both, IMO.

PM sent.

I don't think USB cables fall under the category of advertised performance

No, but when the only cables for the device are USB cables, that implies power performance  ~5W.

I know I don't have a copy of the original advertising/order page for the small BFL 5GH/s unit but "everyone knows" that they were advertised as running from the power of 2 USB plugs.

I ordered from them twice (before the bet and after the bet) and wattage was never mentioned anywhere. And no, the page doesn't say it will run off the usb cables. This is like some of the No voters trying to say that delivering 1 USB cable instead of 2 is less than 10% of the advertised performance specs. Grow up and accept that you lost.

I guess this is what comes from poorly-worded bets.  I'm thinking those that lost the "won't deliver before end of March" bet (?) are feeling just as ripped off as you are now.

http://bitbet.us/bet/337/bfl-will-deliver-asic-devices-before-may-1st/

BFL has delivered many pre-orders already and they are within the +-10% range of the advertised 5GH/s (+-10% running variance).

Don't deal with them, they don't listen to reason and just do what they please.

The bet didn't say GH/s, the bet said "performance".

Given that one of the "performance" features that BFL advertised was power usage, and given that power usage is rougly 6x originally advertised, I think a fair case could be argued that the bet outcome was clearly a "no".

(I'm not a bettor by the way).

GH/s is the only spec that has ever been advertised on the product page. Forum posts by moderators have never counted as a real statement, you can look up similar cases with google.

Pretty sure "running off 2 USB plugs" implies power usage ~5W....

I'll sell you an option to buy a bitcoin off me at any time in the future for US$300k.

I'll escrow that bitcoin for you, using a secure 3-party encryption scheme.  You can choose the escrow holder.

Option premium will be US$250.  Given we're on other sides of the world, just send me equivalent value of bitcoin and I'll do the conversion myself.

I contact you if we hit 400k$ in future ok?

The offer to sell you this option is good for the next 48 hours only.

Cheesy

167  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin wallet question on: May 01, 2013, 12:49:50 AM
What happens if a transfer is made and my wallet is not running? Do the coins not move or do they get lost?

Since the transfer is logged on the blockchain, the client need not be open for the transfer to happen. Once your client syncs with the blockchain again, the transfer will take the coins from your wallet.

A more correct description would be "Once your client syncs, your client will be updated to reflect the fact that the coins you transferred are no longer yours".

Your coins don't "live" in your wallet.  If the coins "live" anywhere, they live in the blockchain.  The wallet is your way of proving to the world that you own your coins, and allows you to transfer that ownership to others.

what aspect of my offer is wanting?

proof of ownership is trivial to do.

Do you want at the money options?  out of the money options?  in the money options?

European style or American?

Good questions.  I've updated the OP with the answers to your questions, which should remove the guesswork inherent in my original description.  Thanks for pointing that out.
169  Economy / Securities / Re: [WTB] ASICMINER share call options on: May 01, 2013, 12:30:54 AM
This is a ridiculous request if you don't specify a strike price at the very least.

I will gladly sell you as many 2 BTC / share strike 8 week options as you can afford at 0.01 / share.

It's not a ridiculous request.  I will entertain all offers.

I have considered your offer, and find it wanting.   If you are serious about launching a negotiation, I would rather not do it in public, so please PM me your offer, and I will reply with a counter-offer.

Also, something I should have mentioned in the OP, I will require proof of ownership should a deal be reached.

I am looking to purchase short-dated (~4 to 8 weeks) call options on ASICMINER shares, for sale via escrow.

I am looking for upwards of 25 shares - how upwards depends on the option premium.

American style (ie. exercise any time up to and including expiry date).

Must be at-the-money or just slightly out of the money.  I have every intention of exercising these options - I wish to lock in a price, but can't afford (yet) to complete the size sale I am looking to do with the funds I have on hand right now.

Everything negotiable.  Please PM me.

Edit: clarified.  Thanks Entropy-mc

Anyway, PM sent, definitely interested.

But will it matter? You have the chance to earn more or less in a week, but mostly its an average. Because it is more or less you wont lose anything in the long run. Of course you can earn less in the first week and more in the next week when the difficulty raised but it can be the opposite way too, so i dont see that this is a big problem.

It matters for someone. Consider your employer pays you either $200 or $300 this week depending on pure luck. Somebody would not take that risk(for ex. he has a loan to pay). Risk alleviating instruments cost real money.

No (responsible) company in the world guarantees dividends.  They may try to always pay the same (or even an increasing) amount, but a guarantee - to me that would be a sign of management with their head in the clouds.

As investors and owners, we bear some risk.  If we can average a few percent higher net profit, at the cost of a little bit higher week-to-week volatility, then as long as that volatility doesn't put at risk the company's ability to pay its bills as they come due, I say do it.

Just curious... What if this type of language was put in the next auctions?

Quote
The auction will end ****. Each valid bid will delay the end time by another hour.

Then the auction will probably never end...

That's actually how some auctions are run, no? Would at least prevent the outcries of unfairness. If the delay was more manageable, say 5-10 minutes then I don't see why not.

Agree it doesn't need to be an hour.  Anyone that keen to get on board at the cheapest price will be watching live - anyone who wants to bid and forget needs to just bid their maximum price and walk away.  Five minutes would be heaps, I think.
177  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why such agreement that Deflationary currency is a bad thing on: April 29, 2013, 10:08:51 PM
(& that action contributes to decreasing overall money supply which propagates a deflationary spiral.)

And that is where I believe you are wrong.  In bitcoin land, paying back a loan does not reduce the supply of money, so there is no deflationary spiral.  In bitcoin land, paying back a loan simply means that those bitcoins are once again available to be loaned out.

Just plain old deflation, which is good for savers and bad for debtors (the exact opposite of inflation, which is good for debtors and bad for savers).
178  Economy / Auctions / Re: ASICMINER Auction: 50 Block Erupter Blades AUCTION OVER!!! on: April 29, 2013, 09:45:42 PM
A final suggestion would be to have some kind of auto-bid or proxy-bid, where John K, for example, could hold hidden bids for someone with specific rules for bidding. Let's say user BIDDER wants to bid up to ฿70, start bidding when minimum price exceeds ฿20, and bid ฿1 over current low bid. When first bid exceeds ฿20, John could announce "Bid by proxy for BIDDER: 1@฿21". Later, when ฿21 falls off the list, and let's say the new lowest bid is ฿25, John could again announce "Bid by prody for BIDDER: 1@฿26"

This would put a burden on John, though, so it would require a tip or service fee, but could also ease the frentic last-minute buying and could give people a fair shot up to the level they are comfortable bidding.

.b

I hope I'm not the only one to say "fuck that idea", pardon my language.

I think having the auctioneer manage your bidding for you is a ROTTEN idea.  If you want to pay someone to bid according to your instructions, fine.  But the auctioneer is the absolute worst person to do this.
179  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Building a great Bitcoin exchange, part I: transaction fees on: April 29, 2013, 06:17:15 AM
Sounds good in practice, but the logic behind the system might be hard to keep track of.

Taking what you've stated in the OP and what btc-e.com does, I think it would be a good idea to charge a small trade fee 0.1% or less and charge a withdrawal fee as well.

Understandably, brokers have to make a profit from somewhere too.

I would also charge a licencing fee for anybody who wants to use the API as developers using these API's are the ones that place the most strain on the system. Thinking out aloud, free for basic use would be a good idea but then $10 or so a month for trade placing will put off kids running 1 cent scalping bots.

An API fee is definitely another way to go.  Maybe as well as or instead of some of the other measures.

Another excellent recent Jon Matonis podcast is The Great Gold vs Bitcoin Debate: Casey vs Matonis wherein he courteously debates Doug Casey on the relative merits of gold and bitcoin as media of exchange and stores of value. It was recorded just a few days prior to the Consult Hyperion podcast.
