Yes, the Starbucks coffee chain really started taking bitcoins. The algorithm is simple: you enter the amount in dollars on the project website and your email. Than you pay the requested amount with bitcoins and receive a special bar code on the email. Next you do an order at Starbucks and show the received barcode on the checkout. Surrender automatically returns back to the bitcoin-wallet. In fact, you can crank the whole scheme with a mobile phone while you're standing in line.
This is a bit different as you are using the Zeex App to buy gift cards using crypto. They are not limited to Starbucks though they have hundreds of other big name brands such as Amazon, Xbox, Adidas etc available as well. https://www.zeex.me/

This is not news we have heard for years, do I have the wrong thing? I remember Starbucks had said that he would accept payment for almost a year with a long-lasting crypto. It is a good thing that such global companies support crypto currencies ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Hey check out the video and you will see the app in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXnBEor6440&t=1s

Forgive me but I fail to see how this promotes the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies. What Zeex does, if I understand it correctly, is help you convert your coins into a gift card, which you can then use to buy coffee. It's more or less the same as converting your coins into fiat money in order to buy coffee. If Starbucks really wanted to help promoting crypto, it could accept direct payments in crypto. Earlier this years one of the Starbucks' CEOs said that he didn't believe in Bitcoin. That's enough of a hint to me as to what their position is.
So your point would be not to use crypto at all? This is a solution for not having to convert back to fiat and not having to pay fees. So as a personal example as a UK crypto holder I would have to convert my eth back to fiat using Coinbase with the fees and time it entails and then wait for it to clear in my bank account before buying my coffee at Starbucks. Or I could do as the guy in the video did, walk into Starbucks buy a gift token with eth or zix using the app and be out there in minutes with my coffee. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I don't see this as the be all and end all of mass adoption but it is a step in the right direction.

Starbucks is accepting crypto-currencies...well sort of anyway, let me elaborate. At the end of June, there will be a token sale for Zeex which is a platform for gift card suppliers to sell their cards for crypto and us crypto holders to finally get the chance to exchange our crypto for products and services without having to convert to fiat or pay fees. Using the Zeex App you will be able to buy gift cards from big name retailers such as Amazon, Xbox and yes, Starbucks in exchange for crypto with 3 taps of the app. We've heard many of these new Blockchain startups make lofty claims before but they are often short on delivery not so with Zeex. They already have partnerships with Zeek their Sister company that will provide them with access to over 350 big name brands. Recently they had another partnership with Russian gift card supplier Giftery and there are more in the pipeline. But what is really impressive is that they will have the app ready to use shortly after the end of the token sale. If you check out the video below you can actually see the app in action in a Starbucks coffee shop in New York..be prepared to be amazed!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXnBEor6440&t=1s

They keep saying Q2 for token sale, which means it has to be next month, but still no announcement.
From the latest newsletter; 'Our whitelisting application will be open to the public starting next week! We are thrilled and we invite everyone to go through the KYC process. It shouldn't take long and it will get you ready to the upcoming token sale. We'll send another email with a link to the whitelisting once everything is ready.' So heading in the right direction ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

the beta platform should be available soon to test with, it will give us an idea of the capabilities of the platform and buying ZIX tokens. I look forward to that.
Yeah, hopefully everything will be easy to use and understand, I'm not too fast with new stuff ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) It will be super easy 3 taps on the app ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Check out this video at 12.44 on the timestamp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDegwTBNTCQ&feature=youtu.be

Theres a interesting new video posted by CEO of Zeex that explains the tax implications of using Zeex. Worth a watch
Summary? Its a super short video so doesn't really need a summary, the bottom line is you are responsible for your own taxes.

Not all countries work Amazon and because of this, this project is already failing. Working only in one market, he will not survive long....
Utter nonsense. They have over 350 brands to choose from through their sister company Zeek as well as a partnership with a Russian gift card distributor and more global partnership in the pipeline. I'd do some research before spreading misinformation next time.

How does Zeex prevent double spending or other manipulations by malicious users?
When completing a transaction, behind the scenes, the ZIX tokens are held in escrow (briefly) until the transaction is safely completed. Once completed the token will then be released back into your wallet. Think of it as collateral or a security deposit. About this escrow that you explained now, some other company is doing that for you,or it is done internally by ZEEX company? It is built into the platform using smart contracts.

While some crypto enthusiasts dream of cashing out their currency into fiat when their holdings reach a certain profit I am looking forward to the day where there is a thriving Crypto ecosystem and we have a choice not to have to deal with the banks and other financial institutions and be able to spend our crypto in a day to day fashion. We often read articles on people who have tried to live on Bitcoin https://www.coinist.io/living-on-cryptocurrencies/ and it isn't easy. A lot of it, of course, depends on what country you are residing in certain countries are embracing the idea such as Switzerland, Estonia, and Singapore while other countries run the gamut from outright bans to reluctantly accepting it but with caveats. As crypto gets more widely adopted, transaction fees fall and it becomes easier to use I believe the chances to use it for all sort of products and services will snowball. One new ICO that is being launched soon which will help towards this is Zeex. This is a platform that will enable gift card suppliers to sell their gift cards for crypto. They have a working app that will be launched shortly after their token sale. They already have partnerships with a number of gift card companies and will be offering gift cards from big name retailers such as Amazon, Nike, Xbox and Starbucks and hundreds more just to begin with. For me personally, this is a great step forward. For instance, I can buy an Amazon gift card with crypto and use it to buy DVD's and books and other non-essentials but I can also make use of 'Amazon pantry' to buy groceries online and have them delivered to me. My coffee addiction is covered as well with the Starbucks option. You can check out the Zeex website here: https://www.zeex.me/While it doesn't mean that I will be totally free from fiat, it is another step in the right direction. I'd love to know your thoughts, do you think we will have a fiat free World in the future? Do you know of any other solutions on where you can spend your crypto without having to deal with fiat?

AAre we gonna be able to refil those gift cards with more zix?
Does it work that way? I thought you use zix to buy gift cards. Yes, your correct that it how it works you choose the gift card you want, pay with your Zix and then redeem for the product or service you wanted. So you could use your Zix to buy a $50 Starbucks gift card to use every day at your favorite Starbucks until it ran out and then you'd buy a new one. What will happen if for example you have $1 left on your Starbucks card, and you cant buy anything with it.Is that $1 wasted,or there is a way to use it? I guess you would top it up with another gift card so for instance you'd buy another at $10 and have $11 in credit.

will their be discounted giftcards, say 5% off incentives if using Zix to buy?
Gift cards will not be discounted by Zeex. But you can check out Zeek.me for the list of retailers and their discounts. But the ZIX token does give you priority over certain limited supply discounts ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) So for example during Black Friday those who decide to pay with ZIX will have the advantage and priority over others? If yes, that will be awesome! I can't say Black Friday for sure but ZIX token holders will certainly get preference on discount gift cards

Bounty campaigns are always a good way to earn some currency and give something back to the project. Too bad they have it only for Members and above. There is always Facebook, Twitter or even translations ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Do you plan to issue your own card,so we can buy directly from the store of one of your retail partners?
Not really, our initial goal is to build partnerships with existing gift card suppliers globally but never, say never ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) But if that would be done then it would have to be a one card for all system, and not a specific card for a specific retailer. Yes it's not really what we are trying to achieve. The idea behind Zeex is to provide a platform that gift card suppliers can use to sell their gift cards for Crypto rather than provide our own card.
