161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Malware / trojans detected on: April 27, 2024, 09:34:32 PM
There is no way to know for sure. Almost all these executables are known to detect a virus or two whenever you go to virustotal.com

Even legit software produces false positives these days. Sometimes the virus definitions are too sensitive. But when it comes to any miner based software, don’t run it on your home computer. If you got a bunch of rigs with no personal info or private keys then run it on those.

162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are you restaking wBTC right now? on: April 27, 2024, 03:41:04 PM
I wouldn’t do any type of staking with BTC or WBTC with any of these programs or protocols because Bitcoin naturally is POW and doesn’t have a real staking program.

Those are all fake staking and it’ll be fine for a while but eventually there is going to be some bug discovered and you might lose all your funds.

With how high BTC can go naturally, it’s not worth risking it with all these WBTC programs.
163  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If all your wages were paid in USDT, would you accept it? on: April 27, 2024, 06:41:42 AM
I think most people would rather accept a stablecoin than an actually crypto coin like bitcoin or Ethereum. Many people would be scared to get paid in bitcoin if next week the coin can lose 10% of its value. But if they were paid in USDT then many would accept it most likely.

Right now I don’t think people fear tether being insolvent since they hold so much USD that they make billions in revenue just from the US treasuries they hold. They also reinvest their profits back into Bitcoin itself. So since there is no more tether fud many would be happy to accept it.
164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can a seed phrase on steel or titanium sheet survive this flood? on: April 27, 2024, 06:35:56 AM
It might survive but most likely with a flood like that it might get swept away and get lost. I think those plates are more for like house fires rather than massive floods. You also need to understand that steel will start to rust if it’s exposed to water. However it’ll need to be submerged for a long period of time for it to eat away the actual words.

If you are worried then just keep the backup in more than one place. This is generally good practice in case of some environmental catastrophes such as those listed above. You can also lose one backup and you will be glad you had another one in place.
165  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best Exchanges Nowadays on: April 26, 2024, 04:31:39 AM
A lot has changed if your last exchange is Cryptsy. Back then you could made anonymous accounts on all exchanges and send coins back and forth with ease. These days almost all exchanges require KYC. You don’t really have any other options due to regulations.

At the end of 2022, Ftx was the largest exchange and it turned out to be a huge scam. So people started to trust dex more and stopped using cex. So there is a small learning curve but dex seems to be the future for crypto.
166  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Inflation Necessary on: April 26, 2024, 04:28:29 AM
When I was young I also found this odd. I also found it odd how every year the same food kept getting more and more expensive. And peoples wages would increase every year and the price of services would increase.

Why it happens is simple. Basically the government is in debt and needs to print money to pay for it and other things. Hence there is more money out there and eventually things get more and more expensive. It’s horrible for savers and doesn’t really benefit anyone.
167  Economy / Speculation / Re: Korean won tops US dollar and leads in crypto trading volume for Q1 on: April 26, 2024, 04:25:45 AM
I find this hard to believe. The Korean won is not traded on many exchanges and how can it have more trading volume than the US dollar, it doesn’t make sense at all.

I am just going to assume that on a Korean exchange their native currency has more trading volume than the US dollar, this I can believe.
168  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: I miss Faucets on: April 25, 2024, 04:17:48 AM
I remember hearing about a website that gave you an entire bitcoin and all you had to do was just solve a captcha and it was sent to the wallet.

However bitcoin then was near worthless so nobody really bothered doing that. Later faucets in casinos were popular, especially dice sites.

You could get like 1000 sats and if you rolled the right numbers, you could make 100000 sats which was the min withdraw.
169  Other / Off-topic / Re: Microsoft doesn't seem to want to keep Windows secure unless you pay more for it on: April 25, 2024, 04:13:13 AM
It’s been a while since I used windows but isn’t it free these days. I remember last time I used it, I downloaded some iso from the Microsoft website and it for some reason never asked for a serial number or had some trial which expired.

I assumed it’s because if you use windows they basically sell your privacy to advertisers and that’s how they get their money back. They already force you to use a Microsoft account and they track your usage and sell that info for advertisers. Hence I stopped using it.
170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto's last message on: April 25, 2024, 04:09:00 AM
I think the reason he said that was because Bitcoin was gaining too much traction and eventually if he continued to he Public he would of slipped up and his identity might of been revealed.

It was off to a good start and he knew the other devs would continue the development of bitcoin, so he could part ways at the time. I remember when he was against Wikileaks using bitcoin as their payment processor because he knew they would get into hot water with the regulators.
171  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: are there any de-centralized crypto exchanges out there ? on: April 24, 2024, 04:02:21 AM
Yes, almost every dex out there has API support. How do you think bots can market make on that particular exchange.

The issue is that usually the API info is buried somewhere on the website. If you go to Support or Help you should find the link somewhere there.

Keep in mind some are limited in instructions, you might have to figure out some parameters on your own. But each dex should have this.
172  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Need Advice for Cheap Swapping on ETH on: April 24, 2024, 03:59:35 AM
Another option for you, if you don’t want to use a CEX. Is to bridge to an L2 network like Arbitrium or Polygon or ZkSync. Right now the bridge fees are $3.50 according to etherscan.

Bridge there and do your swap, it will be crazy cheap. And then just bridge back if you want. No idea how much it costs to bridge back however. You will need to do your research.
173  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading Leverage on: April 24, 2024, 03:55:07 AM
Why do exchanges offer them? Because they get more in trading fees.

If someone has $100 and the exchange fee is 0.1% the exchange gets $0.10 for a trade. Since they need to exit the trade, eventually it’ll be another $0.10 bring the total to $0.20

But if they offer 100x leverage, instead of $0.20 in fees, they will get $20 in fees. They don’t care if the user makes money or not, as long as they get paid for their fees.
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining ORE tokens...Worth it? on: April 23, 2024, 04:08:45 AM
The dev is still working on relaunching the token. He needs help and looking for some devs. Who know how long it will take. Price is doing nothing but trading downwards because people don’t want to wait 2-3 months for it to get relaunched.

If you mined some just hold it and see how the relaunch goes. Hopefully they figure out a way to launch this token and not spam the Solana blockchain. Because people were upset how they couldn’t get their transaction in.
175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: With fees no longer compensating are some miners shuting down? on: April 23, 2024, 04:06:15 AM
You need to wait longer to see if miners are giving up. As soon as the halving block hit the runes network was launched and the fees sky rocketed. They went as high as 1500 sats/byte and now they are sitting at 200 sats. So even with the reduced block reward they are still making a lot of money from the fees.

And the next difficulty adjustment is 1.5% increase. So more miners were added to the network. When the fees come down to what they were before, we will check back then if the difficulty gets reduced. But right now nothing is happening.
176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Halving Making Me Wonder on: April 23, 2024, 04:02:45 AM
The halving has nothing to do with the change in transaction fees. What happened was something called Runes protocol was activated on the same halving block.

Similar to Ordinals people wanted to get their transaction in and they spammed the blockchain and the fees spiked to like 1500 sats/vbyte. It was bad, basically $150 for a simple transaction.

It’s come down since then, now it’s at like 150 sats and the cost is around $10-15 or so.
177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please, I urge you to buy bitcoin! on: April 23, 2024, 03:58:44 AM
I am pretty sure most people here already own bitcoin. Telling them to buy some is not going to make a difference.

And yes the supply is scarse when you consider the large population of the earth. Also factor in that many bitcoins weren’t mined yet and almost double or triple that amount is lost forever due to people deleting their private keys or just losing their bitcoins somehow.
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Doesn't higher bitcoin prices more than compensate for reduced block reward? on: April 22, 2024, 03:46:55 AM
One thing you are forgetting is the increasing difficulty. So a higher price but halved block reward might be more profitable but don’t forget that with a higher price, the difficulty will keep increasing.

Eventually you will need to switch over your miners to the next generation which is more efficient. There is also your cost of electricity and area to host the miners. It’s not an easy calculation to make. Most miners made this calculation probably 6-12 months ago when they knew of the upcoming halving.
179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Runes will be worthless. Don't waste your precious BTC on huge fees. on: April 22, 2024, 03:43:02 AM
Yeah these Runes reminds me of NFTs back in 2017. I first heard about it and assumed it was a joke. Then I saw those bored apes sell for like $50K and I assumed it must be some money laundering scam because who would pay that much for a picture you can just copy yourself.

Then i saw how crazy high some of those bored apes sold for. It was same with meme coins like Doge, Pepe, SHIb, they all should be useless but aren’t. Who knows which path Runes will take. It’ll either be a huge success to the early investors or a huge disappointment. Time will tell.
180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Panic for the Halving Hike of Tx. It will come Down Again. on: April 22, 2024, 03:38:16 AM
Yeah I am surprised it already came down. Because the last time those ordinals were dominating the bitcoin blockchain it lasted for months. The fees now are more reasonable, still high but if you need to send 3-4 figures they don’t seem that bad.

After the halving it was crazy high like 1000 sats which were like $150 for a simple transaction. Even Ethereum during those crazy 2017 ICO days was never this bad. Hopefully we have seen the worse for these Rune transaction spams.
