also, brands can shake off stigma. people still drink coca cola even though the company once used cocaine in the drink.
Once the general public accepted a product, its name does not care anymore. Porblem is cryptocoins have bad press, dark is associated with bad activities, private is associated with legitimity. That's the whole difference between Darkcoin and PrivateCoin (for example) in the ears of the global audience. Why did you have a Darcoin Wallet? TO buy drug, weapons, porn? Ho, you have an AnnonCoin Wallet because we fought for our freedom, autonomy, rights. Of course in the 2 case, you do exactly the same with your coins, but the global audience did not think of you or the shop that will (or not because of that) accepted the coins (or juste feelings about the coin) the same. This is not a problem if the global audience is not the target of the coin, but in order to be accepted as main coin, and used on shops like tiger-direct, I think it could be a problem, and that a clone with darksen code will do better. BUT I'm French and may be the word DARK is not feel the same in other language.

Hate to bring this up again but I don't think the name really matters in the long run. General users will probably call all cryptocurrencies Bitcoin if they ever bring up a transaction in conversation. It will be the Hoover or Kleenex of crypto. They'll say, "I paid with Bitcoin" even if they used DarkCoin or LiteCoin.
It will just be a brand name to them and they'll use the one that best suits their needs. If they don't like their transactions being public knowledge, I think they'll use DarkCoin, otherwise they'll use Bitcoin.
I disagree. The media, the logo on the site "darkcoin accepted", all that implies for my mum, my collegues, my neighbour a much more evil coin than silent-coin/secret-coin/private-coin. I think it's the only (but important) flaw of that coin.

I did not put the whole address here (but I can as it seems to be safe)
export DISPLAY=:0 export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100 export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1 cgminer --keccak --no-submit-stale -o stratum+tcp://erebor.dwarfpool.com:3339 -u 8192mXkp7Xkg8imomY5Ka93dpEdTtGNYurjPhR -p 1 --failover-only -o stratum+tcp://moria.dwarfpool.com:3339 -u 8192mXkp7Xkg8imomY5Ka93dpEdTtGNYurjPhR -p 1
Anyway, I was thinking that even with a wrong address you will mine on the pool (but don't get any coins)

Thanks
I think I use it: the 8192mXkp7Xkg8imomY5Ka just after the -u is my Wallet ID (It's a Wallet from Bter)

Hi, I can't connect to your pool (any pool to be correct), here is my .bat file on windows:
export DISPLAY=:0 export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100 export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1 cgminer --keccak --no-submit-stale -o stratum+tcp://erebor.dwarfpool.com:3339 -u 8192mXkp7Xkg8imomY5Ka -p 1 --failover-only -o stratum+tcp://moria.dwarfpool.com:3339 -u 8192mXkp7Xkg8imomY5Ka93dpE -p 1
Is there something wrong? I try with some "" before stratum without success.

What is happening on darkcoin.io? No more coins seems to be mined

I use bamt, where should be the new cgminer.conf?
The former one was in /etc/bamt/cgminer.conf
The save status was successful so I shoul see a file somewhere if I understand correctly.

|
|
Ok, so I gave it a try, and do some tests.
All tests are good, but it stop on
Testing command "pools"... FAILED
My test was done on a computer of the same network, but not the one with the rig on it. The rig is on Bamt and I did not have a browser on it.
This is my Cgminer.conf "api-listen": true, "api-port": "4028", "api-allow": "W:127.0.0.1,L:89.212.242.33", "api-groups": "L:switchpool:addpool:removepool:restart:save:*",
Any advice?

If I register a rig for rent, and no one went to rent it, can I use it by myself and if someone is interested he can over-write my settings to take control of the rig?
Are Darkcoin rig accepted?

Interesting concept.
Why using Scrypt and not a less power consuming, less adaptable to the asics protocol (keccak/darkcoin/etc)?

how many DRK does everyone hold? only 110 here.
When they reach 10$ each, that will buy some nice anonymous butt plugs in the mail. 'think it will get that high? Well in my mind they can reach 5$ easily once darksend is implemented,if the developers stick to it and reach their goals, who knows after that. The best thing would be for this bitcoin situation with MTGOX to be resolved for people to regain a feeling of trust in cryptos. You can see the reactions of people holding coins like vert, they know their coin is only marginally better than other clones out there in terms of features. They have a nice logo and some nice devs, good to have for sure but they offer nothing more than other cryptos. Look at this post by a guy called David Seaman, holding his fair share of vertcoin and doing his part to hype it. "Let DarkCoin take the shady creeper nicher" he says. The same shady creeper niche that bitcoin had a while ago ? Much higher ambitions? I mean come on, vert is amongst the better clones since they do take themselves seriously, but their main feature is still ASIC resistance... that does nothing for me, it's so easily implemented in various ways. In reality they see darkcoin gaining on them without even trying and are now declaring themselves to be 'clean' money for the regular people. Here's maxcoins graph Here's vertcoin Pump it up enough and people dump it like any other crap. Now look at darkcoin It had almost no hype and when it did get a bit, it found a new floor really quickly and is continuing to grow steadily. It will get another bump soon and everytime is likely to find a higher floor unlike max and vert for example. People may really believe in vert (or max?) but in reality it feels like most of the userbase is in it for the money grab and will dump asap. This is my opinion, not fact. Thanks. If you look at the trading volume then you will know why they go up and down ! speculation does that not your biased comments above . If you have no one trading your coin then it is not hard to pump it or having the price going only one way Nice graphs. Have you got some graph with the price evolution too? I don't know how to have it on the variousexchanges, except for the actual day.

Thank you for the illustration

Is there some sort of calculator to estimate how many coins I can mine in a day or a week?

You were right Chaeplin: I compile it with the drivers inside the folder, and now I have my parameters taken into account.
Thanks for all.

Imanaged to install the Darkcoin miner under BAMT (thanks for all the help) Now, one little bug remained: None of the parameters I listed in my cgminer.conf are taken into account, except for the pool (I know it because I started mining). My mem-clock, gpu-clock, gpu-fan, are ignored. It's a huge problem because of my gpu-fan are so low by default and my card went up to 90° in a minute. root@bamt-miner:/home/user# vi /etc/bamt/cgminer.conf { "pools" : [ { "url" : "stratum+tcp://pool.darkcoin.io:3333", "user" : "", "pass" : "" }, { "url" : "http://us.litecoinpool.org:9332", "user" : "drkow.bamt", "pass" : "1" } ] , "intensity" : "20", "vectors" : "1", "worksize" : "256", "kernel" : "darkcoin", "lookup-gap" : "2", "thread-concurrency" : "8192", "gpu-fan" : "99", "api-port" : "4028", "gpu-threads" : "1", "gpu-engine" : "1000,1000,1020", "gpu-memclock" : "1100", "gpu-powertune" : "20", "log" : "5", "queue" : "1", "shares" : "0", "kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin" } I just noticed that my Intensity is read as well, so may be it's juste everything connected to my Gpu that is not taken into account

Thank you, I get it.
I got my miner compiled, now it's all about configuration I assume. My 3 cards are full of Hardware errors, I'll investigate.

Can you explain what to do to install it on bamt/linux?
Oh screwballs, that's for the cpu miner, lOL, hold on, I'll get the right one... Just a quick cut and paste, on my Ubuntu, this is what I do for the latest version:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y build-essential m4 libssl-dev libdb++-dev libboost-all-dev libminiupnpc-dev git automake libcurl4-openssl-dev
sudo git clone https://github.com/elmad/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.3-avx-aes
cd darkcoin-cpuminer-1.3-avx-aes
sudo chmod +x autogen.sh
sudo ./autogen.sh Lol, too late
I was thinking the name was strange but...
sudo ./configure CFLAGS="-O3 -march=native"
sudo make
And this is how I start it:
sudo ./minerd -a X11 -o stratum+tcp://drk.lotterymining.com:4444 -u Me.Worker -p PasswordToo late Anyway, I'll do it again if you have the gpu-miner and then do a fresh install:) I got an error with the apt-get install command: a file not found I always need to do it as sudo or root, that might be the problem, I left it out in case your system doesn't require it. Oh, and look again, I updated it. Thanks for your help. I tryed to do something like that, even modified my gpumon to make screen-r point to sgminer, samething with tha common.pl file to link the "mine start" command to sgminer. When I launch mine start: i got the Gpu(overclock line, then nothing more. the process crash. I don't know what the problem is. I'm very bad with that linux stuff. I was thinking may be it's because of my cgminer.conf file. I put kernel : darkcoin and darkcoin: true inside it. Is there some sort of log file to know what the problem is?
