161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DECENT Announcement - Decentralizing Content Distribution on: December 26, 2016, 04:23:40 AM
If I remember from what I read about Decent and Naughty America, they have some type of solution for copyrighted content.

If Decent truly has a "solution" to this as a filmmaker in the Hollywood space (with a blockchain project) I can assure you that it will not be decentralized. And if it is "decentralized" it will not be very efficient at scale. There will be ways to get around this solution as there are ways to get around YouTube's and Google Search's solutions to stopping copyright material. Which again can be done and these entities have Billions of Dollars in funding with highly sophisticated algorithms not thousands of Bitcoin.

And you know what's even more interesting? Decentralization of content is not even the biggest pain point in Hollywood or American content at least. As a matter of fact I can argue its not even that big of a deal compared to other serious and measurable paint points. I know they are not really focused on this market but it is where all the real money is at. YouTube as a standalone company is worth $80 Billion and that is because of its American Millennial audience and content creators.

To go even further middle men that fulfill certain value points that are not being offered by the YouTubes of the world, such as protection of original content viewing, a better cut to content creators (80/20 or 90/10) compared to the current market (45/55 and 55/45 (YouTube)) and better monetization options that actually allow them to CONSOLIDATE and build a real PAYING audience are actual selling points mainstream consumers could love and content creators will flock too (obviously).

I dont know about the rest of the world but Americans are weary  of platforms that seem like there is no one that can be held accountable. It simply does not sell here. Look to be frank decentralization of content is not a business model for adoption nor is it a selling point. It might be amazing technology but it is not a business. In my opinion if you are going to launch something in the Hollywood or content space trying to sell "decentralized" or "no middle men" or "open platform" is not really a value proposition that scales with the current content creator market and the options they currently have now. I can speak to that because I am an actual Millennial Content Creator knee deep in this space and industry.

You have platforms like Patreon that are centralized and still give a 95% cut to their creators on their platform. And they are pretty open to all types of content creators. Look at their home page. It says fans have given OVER $50 MILLION to content creators. That is real people giving content creators real money. Think if that entity was tied to a blockchain... What would the market cap be on it? Having done $50 Million in actual transactions?

And now that they have Patrecon as a community based event that brings content creators together they are creating intangibles that simply cannot be competed with when it comes to trying to sell content creators on "decentralized". Now because of the pricing limitations Patreon has, and the way it lets content creators get supported by their audience, it will not scale to every type of content creator. But the market that it will scale to is YUGE and relevant enough to keep them going even in the face of YouTube. It still works because it offers content creators an option, a value proposition YouTube or Netflix or Amazon simply cannot offer in the market.

And nothing is stopping them in the future from implementing elements of blockchain technology (think Circle) that gives all the benefits and costs savings of decentralized blockchains without needing to give up their entity as a company. Think about this last point... Companies and "Middle Men" are not a bad thing AS LONG as they are actually useful and can sustain themselves in the face of competition.

As Michael79 was trying to point out with his excellent questions the technology might be great and I believe Decent's tech will be awesome. But people need to ask tough questions when it comes to business. Not technology. I'm talking business. Peace and Merry Christmas everyone  Smiley

I imagine the solution being something like, whoever uploads it first has rights over it.

DECENT is a chinese based coin?

DECENT is based in Slovakia, however, we have supporters all around the globe. Recently we have opened our offices in Shanghai.
Our aim is to ensure worldwide adoption of the technology. International reach is therefore one of our main goals.

Good evening sir

One question: I saw the ICO's Decent price that it is about 0,000140 ( ICO Tracker), why me that I've invested 3,8 bitcoin I've received only 12500DCT ?

Sorry for my bad english
Best regards

It means that the price of the Decent have gone down from the ICO price that is why it is said that investing in ICO is better to wait for its listing and then buy in market with less price.

Decent is not out yet. It will be available next year.

Decent is going to play huge role in digital media content in future. I can not wait to put my hands on my ICO assets. Anyway new year is approaching us slowly slowly once we are in January then it will be matter of weeks. Keep all the work up , surely future belongs to Decent and those who have faith in this project.

I would like to believe DEcent can be one of the token that will also stand out among those article sites with token of their own such as steemit.

This is definitely not like Steemit. It's so much more.

That's good and all. Though that's really just the Hillary camp saying that there was hacking involved.

- Do I have to wear the sig till end of ICO after 8 weeks to be eligible for the earned stakes? No

In bounty list you put me 0 but I had signature for 7 week, how did you check that?

You took it off a week before the ICO was over?

If so, this is a forum, unless the signiture campaing involved like less than ten people, there's no way for them to check to see if every person has their signiture on during every week of the campaign. They check it at the end of the ICO.

I think that digital property rights should be brought down, like all forms of intellectual property rights.
Forbidding people to share information goes against the deepest forms of human interaction.
(thinking that having fun with sex is a sin, does so too BTW...)

How do you suggest that musicians, song writers, designers and others make a living? Why should people bother innovating? Open source and royalty free are great and have their uses and benefits but they cannot be the whole story.

I for one am quite happy to pay 1$ for a track, or 10$ for a 3d design etc.

What we should ensure is that there is a functioning market for IP. Not one that exists currently for the benefit of monopolists and cronies.

They will still be able to make a living. Remove the power of record companies, people will probably be exposed to more music, and buy artist who do it for the art and not the fame and being rock stars.

Been gone for a few days. Was hoping the price would have been higher. Still being patient.

I was hoping for a quick return on investment

With the hype leading up to the release, many thought that this coin would launch with a $100,000,000 marketcap.
Please tell me you are joking? how on earth someone could expect 10x price? it's not magic man it's marketing.
And so far it's not good until we see some dividends.

I'm talking about the the very strong hype train of people saying things like this would launch with such a big marketcap. Whether they believed that 100% I don't know. But with the pages per hour full of such talk and excitement, many didnd't expect the marketcap to be at its current state.

and we will see it during next year

Perhaps, or perhaps not. The point is that we can't simply judge from people who have a lot of money at stake pumping it to get others to flood into the coin.

When you look at things like...

The elections
The wars in the Middle East
The gun control issues
The fight between Government and Americans (Bundys)
The crashing economy
The financial bubbles
And lots more

... do you really thing there will be a 2040 or 2050?

Cool

That is true, there might not be a 2050, but mostly because uncontrollable damage to the earth due to pollution.

If one must wait until February until it shows up on Polo or Bittrex, then it might force some people to go to Liqui.  Angry

In collapse scenario, the biggest asset is a skill. A usefule skill can get you a long way.

A good skill to have would be the ability to at least absorb data, and to be able to transfer as much as possible.  A working understanding of crypto-currencies in their various permutations may be a big bonus.   ...or it could get you killed.

Well, I was thinking more of a scenario where there's basically no electricity and people are living of the land.

Me too.

But crypto requires electricity and the internet. The main focus would not even be money, but to try to find food before dying of hunger. No stores, cops, etc.

Just wait til we hit Polo.

Mal, as a prominent non-shitposter in this thread, I encourage you to be more responsible with the Poloniex speculation/hype.

Here are the absolute facts:

    1.  Poloniex is a Delaware Corporation -- a U.S. company.

    2.  Poloniex takes regulatory compliance very seriously.  See for example New  Hampshire action in quick response to new law.

    3.  ICN are, beyond doubt, a security which is currently not registered with the SEC.  ICN are not in any way legal to advertise or sell in the United States.

SEC could force Poloniex to shutdown, or put the hurt on them, for listing unregulated securities.  Kraken seems willing to chance it for some reason.

The idea that we'll suddenly see a "ICN now trading on Poloniex!" announcement is pure insanity.

Iconomi put the cart before the horse by offering securities to U.S. buyers before they were registered in the U.S.  Now I presume they're paying expensive NY lawyers in an attempt to retcon the whole deal and make it kosher with the SEC.  We will see/hear administrative shit with the SEC, and a firm announcement of ICN's legal status in the U.S., before we see ICN listed on Poloniex, if ever.  Anybody thinking that ICN will be on Poloniex "soon" or that the announcement will come out of the blue is delusional.

Please do your part to contain the idiocy that infests this thread.

Do you think it will hit Bittrex?

Does the 400lb hacker have the emails? Lets hope so, it would be a nice birthday present for the old witch.

OMG that would be epic if he somehow has the emails and is going to release them.

11th Trump accuser (a porn actress who makes gaping videos) says the Don kissed her without consent 10 years ago.

She makes gaping videos, yet she looks like such a respectable victim that would never, ever do such a thing.
