161  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What happens when the last bitcoin is mined on: November 22, 2014, 12:29:15 AM
Basically what he said ^
The transaction fees will potentially increase to incentivize people to continue mining. Either that or Bitcoin will be worth so much that the small fees would be enough incentive.
162  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: My mining timeline - breakevens on: November 22, 2014, 12:22:06 AM
It took me approximately 4 months to ROI as well. I have free electricity so I've been making pure profit since.
163  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: November 22, 2014, 12:06:33 AM
It doesn't make sense that they'd be silent about receiving a refund. Once the refund is sent, if you speak about it, it's not like black arrow can reverse the payment they sent you.
164  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 28.2 BTC on: November 20, 2014, 06:35:02 PM
You should be grateful you were pooled mining then, otherwise you'd have zero by now with that luck.
That's exactly what I was just about to say! I'm currently solo mining with 2gh lol. Nothing so far.
You have a one in an *extremely* high chance of finding a block.
Yes, I am aware, but I'll take those odds versus making dust mining in a pool.
165  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: November 20, 2014, 03:45:48 AM
We haven't heard from any of the people who claimed to be pursuing legal action against black arrow for a while now.. Would be nice to see an update.

168  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Kevin Dowd's end of Bitcoin on: November 16, 2014, 11:39:40 PM
If bitcoin becomes worthless because it's too centralized, then those hubs will stop mining because they will be losing money, thus reducing the centralization of it, thus bitcoin regains value again.

would be nice if that would be the case...
but i think all that will happen is that they make a subsidary and claim its a different company (they could even stay in the same datacenter use the same cooling and so on).

we'll see.

things a 51%+ miner can do:
 - kill competition
 - refuse to include some specific transactions (only bad if they also kill competition)
 - history attack (eg start from an older block and build a new chain from there... thats hard to accomplish, because it will take them a good amount of time and transactions with more confirmations are more safe)

^ any of this is detectable.

as no big miner wants to dillute their investment i dont think that will happen.

i am only afraid that such big miners will be a target for governments to kill certain transactions.

did i miss a threat?
51% won't happen because no single entity has anywhere near 51% power. And even if it DID, like you said, they'd be destroying their own wealth by destroying the robustness of bitcoin.

170  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: The mining rat race on: November 16, 2014, 11:10:34 PM
This is why it was advantageous to get in on the rush early on. Similar to the gold rush in the west. People are still making some money now, otherwise they wouldn't be mining. But not nearly as much as the early pioneers.

One of my points is for mining to continue at present OR higher difficulty level, price of BTC has to go up, or price can stay the same, but difficulty has to drop~2-fold. Present situation is unsustainable long term. People can tolerate short term, but NOT long term losses.
I agree. And either one or the other will happen eventually. It just depends on how long the big farms will hold out in hopes of a price increase - which they are also preventing from happening because most of them sell all mined coins quickly, thus not allowing for there to be a higher demand for coins. So by their own actions, they will run themselves out of business.

That's great! I don't think I've ever found one myself yet. Your problems with Ghash are not uncommon. Switch to a better pool. I use Eligius.

176  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner Ubuntu two ethernet ports on: November 16, 2014, 05:36:55 PM
Try cgminer. You may have better luck.

Are you trying to solo mine?
177  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [closed] CGminer compiling error on rasp pi on: November 16, 2014, 05:35:19 PM
It'd be helpful if you posted your solution instead of just saying you solved it. That way others can also benefit in the future if they see this thread.
178  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to trace mining pool user? on: November 16, 2014, 05:28:57 PM
For eligius, you can find miners here:

179  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Solopool BETA on: November 16, 2014, 03:30:51 AM
With much sadness, Solopool is going to be closing November 30th.

Please find an alternative means for solo mining.
Good. Seemed like a scam anyway. Never addressed any of my concerns.

Why do you require an email to sign up and why do you send passwords over clear text in emails?
Completely turned off from mining at this pool now..

Since you quit mining with solopool back in August of this year (3 - 4 months ago), why are you still even following this thread? And even most banks send your passwords to your email in clear text...
Because I'm subscribed to the thread since I made a post in it. What bank do you know of that sends you your password in clear text? That's unheard of.

Didn't know there was such a thing until just now! Working on it!
Awesome! Keep us updated here. Thanks
