BTW (hypothetical) What happens if one group runs a good chunk of masternodes, say 51%. Would they have any advantage in breaking darksend anon (like running lots of tor nodes breaks tor anon)?

At the actual rate owning the 51% of the MNs require an investmen of almost 1.5M$. 2250 MNs and DRK value being 3$ it would cost 3.3M$. You see it gets harder and harder as the network keeps growning. That is interesting point ... food for though; if you where the feds what would you do: 1. Buy 50%+ MN @ $2 million 2. Try and crack the encryption and spend $100+ millions and countless years if not decades? It's not just 51% of the masternodes it would have to be a large majority of them, pushing the cost higher. When Darksend peers mix with each other they use a dedicated node, called a Masternode. This node in the present implementation is required to be able to see the inputs and outputs of the transactions to ensure that parties sign, otherwise the system will charge them collateral fees.
Peers mix with many different Masternodes in a row, known as “rounds” of anonymity in the client. To follow a transaction through the full process, a user must go through a series of malicious Masternodes. This process is random, so a bad actor would need to control many Masternodes in order to attack in this way.
The trade off is a sybil resistant system or one with more personal privacy from snooping Masternodes. But in the case where a Masternode is blinded, collateral protection can’t be used. If a Masternode is blind to the submission of outputs and signing, by definition it would not know who to charge the collateral.
There are other options available, such as banning inputs of users that attempt to break the system. Something like this will have to be utilized in addition to a blinded setup to protect the system from abuse.

DarkSend is immune to such attacks, all involved crypto functions could be cracked and the mixing is still done off blockchain by the masternodes. Off blockchain means that the information is lost and that's the only way to secure it, you can't do it with cryptography.

Relax Relax my friend. - Nobody ever received any payments from the Foundation as they have NOT launched yet ! - People are offering services (MN Services, MN Pooling, MN Setup) and they are getting paid, but a lot of the community work (programmers, developers, PR, New Buiseness Devs,....) are not getting paid (incl myself) .... and me personally i do NOT expect to as well ! I am doing my work here as a community free effort/ i am NOT expecting anything, and i am having a blast doing it ! Speaking of slave labour ... it all depends where you are ! When i look across the boarder to china, you can get a full day labour for 1-2 DRK a day ! (i am NOT supporting that, just saying....) I think you should rephrase you offer to : Donations ! but i am just talking here .... do not get pissed at me, am just trying to help out ! You are not helping. Why should I rephrase my offer? Everybody knows that I accept donations, that's how it worked for months now. If some people here (not you specifically) want to see a large amount of daily cartoons coming to the community, and are willing to pay for it, they now know my very reasonable proposal.Meanwhile I will continue doing what I do. So I was thinking about starting a cartoon to celebrate evan's achievements:  A proposal: Is the community/foundation willing to pay me a monthly amount of DRK (I don't know, 150 DRK or something) so I can allocate some time every day and create a daily cartoon? Darkwallet is still bound by BTC's confirms and wasn't built to be anonymous from the start. Granted, you could argue with the current issue that DRK is facing, neither are we, but we were designed from the start to be an anonymous currency. With BTC's confirms, DRK would have InstantX. Further, the masternode network still hasn't been tapped as to what kinds of services can be built on top of it. You can actually earn revenue from running a masternode, something you won't be able to do with Darkwallet or BTC for that matter. Finally, Darkwallet still remains a centralized, browser based platform, not something I am willing to risk money with. Ok. Chrome and Firefox have a centralised server? Exists now a decentralised browser? Thanks for answers. Not the browsers, Darkwallet is centralized because the "mixing" will take place in their own servers so you have to trust that they won't try to retrace some transactions even for research purposes. |

i don't have a Crystal ball but I think it will depend on these factors:
a) how fast Evan and the dev team comes up with a security patch
b) If 'a' will require hard fork or not
c) In case 'b' is yes then if it will be successful hard fork or not
d) If these will not be additional security vulnerabilities
but i can't give you any specific number out of my ass
I'm about 50% done with the patch after working on it today. I'll probably have it completed tomorrow then we can start testing on testnet. I've figured out a way to do it without a hard-fork, so there's no risk to the patch at all. With no need to hard fork or risk to the patch, why not roll to mainnet? Just curious. It would be risky to put anything live on a mainnet without further tests. Better safe than sorry, that's IMO a very good procedure. |

Hey darkbros so now with this hard fork fiasco how hard do you think DRK price is going to drop? I already got burned buying at the top .0082 (I know I'm an idiot) so I am sincerely asking you people who have made enough money that you don't have any motives for others to buy, or are a genuinely good person. I'm thinking 0.004 in a few weeks time right after the issues get fixed?

********* TRADING ALERT ********* The market has overcorrected. Everyone has been dumping like hell thinking they're going to make a tidy profit buying back in at 5. However as I explained on Sunday, the valuation is much more elastic now. We can see this in the 1 hour chart. The selling momentum went 1-2-3-2-1 and now it's level. i.e. the dump came in 5 successive waves increasing in intensity and then decreasing. The 1 hour chart has now gone level or slightly crossed to the upside.  MARKET DEPTH The market depth is in full buy-back configuration. Massive asymmetry in favour of the bid side indicates that traders still expect the valuation to recede further but bargain hunters have gathered in numbers with jaws on the floor and tongues hanging out. If you've dumped and are waiting to get back in your going to be in good company. The more the price drops the less liquidity there's going to be:  The 4 hour hour chart is still in full kamikaze mode, but the next bar may indicate a revised trajectory given that selling has all but stopped for the moment and the 1 hour went horizontal. There's a full 17000 DRK to plough through just to get back to 6 and even if that goes off order book it may only be because the market sees us bottoming out. A possible retest of 5.5 may be on the cards at some point but it's equally possible that 6 is the new base. = My crystal ball says we're not going to get below the 18 day EMA currently at ~0.0061 |
