161  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoind, c-lightning and RTL on centos 7 (walktrough) on: July 07, 2021, 08:02:20 PM
how is RTL secured? is there a password prompt when you access the site? if not - everyone who knows your domain (and port) can access your node or did i miss something?
162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet.dat question. on: July 07, 2021, 07:31:07 PM
i suggest not using windows...
I suggest learning how to keep your computer safe regardless of which operating system you use.  All OSs vulnerable, and even more so if you're unfamiliar with it.
if you want to make your life on purpose harder - go for it
163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #FUD,#Bitcoin,#Crypto,#China on: July 07, 2021, 04:18:50 PM
It is a fact that every #FUD related to Bitcoin,Crypto comes from China.
i dont know your definition of facts, but what you say is not a fact. there is fud everywhere, doesn't matter which country. but at the same there there also always some brave people who will die for bitcoin
164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Never sell your Bitcoin? on: July 07, 2021, 04:11:41 PM
~snip~
Btc dormant address would increase so as to keep it normal we need to sell off at some point.
Yep, because the volatility will never stop. Prices go up prices down there will always be. So I think holding on forever is not right. I have analysis with my ruler, I have pegged some increase and some decrease when the target comes I have to do that strategy. Although not accurate but at least I have assets that continue to grow. Also with my technique I can feel more at ease with the total amount of assets I have in USDT because the movement is not like bitcoin.

i have a hart time understanding what you are saying here. is your argument, that because it is volatile, you will not hold forever and sell?

you could also see it this way: prices go up and prices go down (measured in bitcoin) - but bitcoin always keeps the same - 1BTC=1BTC
165  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Aktuelle Gewinnspiele im Forum on: July 07, 2021, 12:24:42 PM

166  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: July 07, 2021, 12:21:34 PM
I am pleased to announce that I and ndalliard are (probably) the first bitcointalk members to open a dual-funded channel Cool
it was basically:

1. adding a string to the config
2. restarting the node
3. entering two commands (now that i think about it, maybe the first command wouldn't be necessary if my node would be "older"/ better connected)

so easy - everyone can do it? probably not, but the experience was pleasant. now comes the harder part on my end. i want to understand what i did there. i did it this time without understand because we wanted to use the nearly empty mempool to save some precious sats
167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Never sell your Bitcoin? on: July 07, 2021, 10:16:57 AM
More and more people are seeing the importance of Bitcoin and are now into buying Bitcoin and not doing trading. We have all these talks with the crypto community in our place and almost all of them are saying the same thing and that is to buy and buy Bitcoin and not to sell it. If you trust the crypto currency then you should be able to invest all of your money and wait for the best payday after many years. I want to be sure that we can also pass this over to many people here. I seldom give my opinions but Bitcoin is a good cryptocurrency.

i stopped using words like cryptocurrency and crypto community, i think they are misleading

something else about this discussion: are we talking about selling fiat when we buy a house, food or a car? i mean technically it is selling, but i guess in this context selling is meant to exchange it for dirty fiat. and if this is the case my answer is pretty clear: i will never sell my BTC
168  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: So..What's Next For Bitcoin? on: July 07, 2021, 05:34:26 AM
BIP-118: SIGHASH_ANYPREVOUT - anyprevout.xyz

and

BIP-300/301: Drivechain - drivechain.xyz

are two proposals i am interested in, but i am only scratching the surface
169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you pay with Bitcoin whenever you're able to? on: July 07, 2021, 05:19:07 AM
Another small problem is the confirmation timing and some merchants require 3-confirmations which wastes a lot of time. I cannot imagine going to a shop making my purchase, paying with bitcoins and waiting needlessly for an hour for 3-6 confirmations. Maybe this can be solved by the altcoins payment option in such places where the queue is long and people cannot wait.

i do think you don't have the problem you mention if the merchants would use the lightning network (based on bitcoin) - there is no need to use altcoins for that
170  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Aktuelle Gewinnspiele im Forum on: July 06, 2021, 08:10:50 PM
Mal abwarten, was dabei herumkommt.

Quote
Warning: One or more bitcointalk.org users have reported that they believe that the creator of this topic displays some red flags which make them high-risk. (Check their trust page to see the detailed trust ratings.) While the bitcointalk.org administration does not verify such claims, you should proceed with extreme caution.

These warning banners will disappear when you have 7 days of login time. You should familiarize yourself with the trust system before then.

171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could the LN be the cause of the incentive's dead end? on: July 06, 2021, 08:05:50 PM
No matter how adopted lightning network is, it will not be good for large amount of Bitcoin.
People won't be buying cars or houses through LN.
I don't get that. Why wouldn't it be good for large amounts? Let's say that I have 1000 BTC in an address. Why would it be bad to open a channel depositing 100 BTC and use it for buying cars, houses etc? It's designed for micro-payments, but I'll avoid the mining fees whether I deposit 0.01 or 100 BTC. Someone may want to send and receive huge amounts everyday. He'll find it cheaper if he uses the LN to avoid the mining fees.

the problem is right
                                                     here          and              here
                                                       v                                  v
blackhat [100btc><0.1btc] partner [0.1btc><0.1btc] friend [0.1btc><0.1btc] car dealer

they cant push 100btc to the car dealership via routing from you.. because partner and his friend dont have 100btc for them to be used as a go-between

LN only works if everyone had more balance than the payment needing to be routed
LN is promoted for "great for coffees" ($4) when average balance of routers in-line is over $4 to allow the payment

oh and then there is this issue
richguy [2btc><0.1btc] blackhat [100btc><0.1btc] partner [0.1btc><0.1btc] friend [0.1btc><0.1btc] car dealer

richguy decides he wants to pay 'partner' 2btc minutes before you want to buy a car
richguy [0btc><2.1btc] blackhat [98btc><2.1btc] partner [0.1btc><0.1btc] friend [0.1btc><0.1btc] car dealer

now you dont have 100btc for your own 100btc payment via 'partner' friend to car dealer

aren't payments in lightning split (or can be split)?

174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Never sell your Bitcoin? on: July 06, 2021, 05:16:27 PM
Long term run and if the timing is right, earning from bitcoin investment is very possible. Buy with low value then
wait for some time and sell it with good amount of profits.

i don't understand why someone would sell the best money to "take profits" (not talking about selling to pay for bills, a house or whatever). also if the timing is right, that is a big if - not worth it imo
175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could the LN be the cause of the incentive's dead end? on: July 06, 2021, 05:11:50 PM
the rewards will get smaller, but even if the rewards are small in the future, a bitcoin will be much more valuable than today (if everything goes as "planned").
This is a very false thought. The whole system shouldn't rely on the belief that it'll have a greater value in the future. It's important to know what will happen if the value remained the same.
well, you will not know until it happens - and imo it is highly unlikely the value will remain the same

every system "relies" on the unpredictable future

Are you running a LN node yourself?
No, but I'm planning to work on it. It seems very interesting.

get in touch if you want to open a channel

177  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A Beginner's guideline to Bitcoin Lightning Network on: July 06, 2021, 02:24:57 PM
I know it sounds complicated. I am working on a thread which will explain it in a more understandable way.

thanks a lot for explaining it. yes it is kinda hard, i try to wrap my head around it, i just need some time to digest that all, it's fascinating - i looked for a save button here, i guess there is none and i just save the url  Cheesy i am looking forward to the thread - it will be a good one

wohl falsch verstanden Smiley

179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Never sell your Bitcoin? on: July 06, 2021, 02:10:21 PM
So long as the narrative around bitcoin is a digital store of value, HODLing super long term would the preferred strategy.
look into the history of money, is has to be first store of value an then it can transition to medium of exchange

Well, the thing here is, I really do not care how others would deal with their Bitcoins. If they HODL it then go ahead, let them be. I will not interfere nor tell them not to do it. Let them sell it, let them hold it, let them give it away to their girlfriends. You should not be forcing your opinions to the others if that is what they want and if that is what they need to do with their Bitcoins, after all of the factors that they can consider, it gave them that decision to do so on their coins then by all means.

Most of those advocating for HODL doesn't really care about the other users. They are just afraid that if a lot of the users sell their coins, then the exchange rates may fall. And the same people who are advocating for HODL will dump their coins at the first opportunity, if there is a need. Personally I would go for an ideal mix of profit booking and long term holding. There needs to be a good balance between these two. In such cases, you will not incur big losses if Bitcoin suddenly becomes worthless, and at the same time you will be left with enough coins in case Bitcoin appreciates by 10x or 20x in the future.
that's not what i experience - i pay and earn in bitcoin and i don't care what you do

beeing normal, keeping the balance, sounds boring

edit: typo
180  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: July 06, 2021, 02:00:00 PM
the wording here is a little bit off imo. i guess you are not talking about the lightning technology used on another network than bitcoin. that means the lightning network it is clearly dependent on the bitcoin network and also i would say, that both networks have an impact on each other. i agree with the last part, that no one is force to use neither networks (some say people in el salvador are now force to use it, but that is another topic)
I get your point. I should mention that there is a possible risk of flooding the network if a large number of channels is closed at once. Uncooperative channel close results in 2 on-chain transactions, so that's how someone could do even more damage.
yes i think changing that would be a good idea - lightning is intertwined with bitcoin
