161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GAP] Gapcoin - The largest, decentralized prime gap search on: October 20, 2014, 01:09:36 AM

Wat do I do after that?

Counting down to your launch though!

If you compiled everything successfully, that's it for now.
Just wait for the launch.  Wink

Also: "The source code will not contain the neccesary Proof of Work functionality, its only to set up and test compile environment."

-You gonna push this on launch? Or just binaries?

Yes, the entire source code will be published at launch.

Have you contacted pool operators/worked with pool code so that this is a possibility at launch?

Have you worked with GPU miner devs to develop a GPU algo for your PoW code?

This is in progress, but probably we won't have a pool right at the start.

Also Gapcoin is currently CPU only.

after make all:

Code:
g++ -Wall -Wextra -c -Winline -Wformat -Wformat-security -pthread --param max-inline-insns-single=1000 -lm -Wno-write-strings -march=native -O2  src/PoWCore/src/PoW.cpp -o src/PoWCore/src/PoW.o
src/PoWCore/src/PoW.cpp:28:17: fatal error: gmp.h: No such file or directory
 #include <gmp.h>
                 ^
compilation terminated.
make: *** [src/PoWCore/src/PoW.o] Error 1

 Huh

You have to install gmp and mpfr libraries:

https://gmplib.org/
http://www.mpfr.org/

on Ubuntu:

Code:
sudo apt-get install libgmp-dev libmpfr-dev

What's the use of this new thread if everything's been explained in the other one already?

New attention  Grin
165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GAP] Gapcoin - The largest, decentralized prime gap search on: October 14, 2014, 12:01:53 AM
This is in development for some months now if i am correct. Nice to see it is going to finally launch.

One question though. You say that you are going to give source and binaries 2 days before launch. So what stops someone to start the coin?

Yes pre announcement thread was here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=647681

Binaries will be distributed in an encrypted container, the password will be revealed at launch.

The source code will not contain the neccesary Proof of Work functionality, its only to set up and test compile environment.

What's the significance of the pi logo?

The formula π(x) is known as the prime-counting function, which graph shows the prime gap distribution as well.

Specifications:

  • PoW: custom, prime gaps
  • Block target time 2.5 minutes
  • Block reward proportional to the current difficulty
  • Block reward halving every 420000 (about 2 years)
  • Cap: about 10 - 30 million GAP
  • Difficulty adjusts every block and increases logarithmic (it will probably take years to get to 50)

Fair launch:

  • Gapcoin was not designed to enrich the early adopters or the coin creators! The more people mine Gapcoin, the more coins per block will be produced. (Coin supply will increase logarithmic with the difficulty, this means it will grow in the beginning, but later, it won't change much.)
  • There won't be any premine!
  • To avoid instamine, the reward of the first 1152 blocks (about 48 hours) will increase quadratically to its absolute value: the current difficulty. Block reward will be 1/1152^2 * blockheight^2 * difficulty for the first 1152 blocks. This should guarantee that the difficulty is stable until the blocks yield a worthwhile amount of coins.
  • Source code will be available before launch (excluding the PoW function), so everyone can setup their own environment, compile the software, and check if everything works.
  • Windows and Linux binaries will be distributed in an encrypted container before launch, the password will be revealed at launch.

We have a new and unique logo:

The motive of the circle is inspired by the prime number distribution.
Starting with digit "3" at the top, it proportionally shows the size of the gap (black) between two consecutive prime numbers.
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Gapcoin: prime gap based hashing on: June 27, 2014, 03:39:37 PM
Update:

  • PoW code rewritten form simple proof of concept C to object oriented readable C++.
  • Code integration started with bitcoin v0.9.2rc2, looks good so far.

170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Gapcoin: prime gap based hashing on: June 18, 2014, 03:09:25 PM
Just for references, what was the previous reward scheme? I don't remember. Watching this thread for a while now Smiley

A hard cap without reward halving every 420000 blocks.
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Gapcoin: prime gap based hashing on: June 18, 2014, 12:18:14 AM
Anything new to report about this coin? I can't wait to see it lunch!

Edit: Reward scheme changed: Block reward halving every 420000 (about 2 years) with about 10 - 30 million GAP.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Gapcoin: prime gap based hashing on: June 12, 2014, 12:42:00 AM
Will you be releasing a python PoW too? for P2P Pool... and Javascript would be cool too, so NOMP can include it Wink

NOMP seems to be pretty cool, but first of all the coin must be created Wink
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Gapcoin: prime gap based hashing on: June 11, 2014, 12:08:18 PM
Suggest you update logo

I know its just a template, but there could be a logo contest.
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Gapcoin: prime gap based hashing on: June 11, 2014, 11:42:15 AM
I wouldn't pass the source code to anyone before start. You should know why.

Source code will be available before launch (excluding the PoW function).
The hashing part will only contain prototype functions.
You won't be able to do anything with it, except checking if you setup your compile environment correctly.

Anonymously, or "anonymously"?  Smiley

Anonymously as in Bitcoin "anonymously"  Wink

So does this mean the primecoin gpu miner could be ported to this coin.

Theoretically yes, but it will be much harder than just copy paste.

If I understand correctly, you need to find prime numbers to work out prime gaps?

Yes
175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Gapcoin: prime gap based hashing on: June 11, 2014, 01:45:16 AM
Interesting idea.  Will you be releasing a whitepaper?

Maybe, but the website covers already the most parts.
176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Gapcoin: prime gap based hashing on: June 11, 2014, 01:26:32 AM
CPU only, right?

Yes

Such block reward scheme will probably lead to dumping I'm afraid :/

In the beginning maybe, but once the difficulty has stabilized, the block reward won't change much.
Due to the logarithmic difficulty increase, the block reward will only have significant increase at the start.
This will effectively avoid instamine!
