What's going on? Arshin Kulkarni out in the first over, and that too against Nuwan Thushara. Now two destructive batsmen are at the crease - KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis. These two should be able to guide the Lucknow Super Giants to a victory. But then they need to handle Jasprit Bumrah, who is perhaps the best pace bowler participating in this tournament. They have Nicholas Pooran down the order, but I hope his services may not be required in today's match.

Imagine one bowler having an off day and you have no part time bowler in the top 6 because your batters are not interested at all and your domestic cricket is not creating enough all-rounders.

That's where Hardik Pandya comes in (6th bowling option), it's a failure of a system that after so many years they are still struggling to replace him in white ball cricket.

Pace bowling allrounders are quite rare in Indian domestic cricket. How many are there? Apart from Harddick Pandya we have Shardul Thakur, Venkatesh Iyer and Vijay Shankar. Both of them are in poor form right now. And then we have a few others such as Yash Thakur and Manishankar Murasingh. Unless more of domestic matches are being played in pace friendly pitches, we may not see a lot of pace bowling allrounders in domestic cricket. And that is not going to happen soon.

Indian women won today's match, but I could notice a big red flag. Once again, Renuka Singh Thakur is being very expensive. In the first match, she returned figures of 4-0-18-3. But today she was horribly expensive, bowling 4 wicketless overs for 40 runs. And her form has been horrible for the last 12 months or so. I don't think that she'll survive in the team for too long. A number of promising younger pacers are coming up, and if her form doesn't improve, then she may find herself at the bench.

What's happening with Mayank Yadav? He suddenly seems to have lost his pace and accuracy. In today's match he went for almost 10 runs per over. It's not that  bad, but given the circumstances it was very poor. Mumbai Indians were 27/4 and some wayward bowling from the part of Lucknow Super Giants enabled them to reach a very decent total. Tim David did an amazing job towards the end, and before that it was Nehal Wadhera who set up the preparatory work.

There was some drama at the County Championship Division Two, in the match between Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. Peter Handscomb (Australian player representing Leicestershire) was batting on 99, and he dashed off for a single that was never there. India discard Karun Nair seized the opportunity and ran him out. Leicestershire ended with 452/8 and the match was drawn, but Handscomb couldn't complete his century. Rehan Ahmed and Louis Kimber provided good support, with 85 and 65 respectively.
166  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In Your Country Who Gamble More? Young Ones or Elderly Ones on: April 30, 2024, 02:05:08 AM
It is a very tough question actually. In India, only permitted form of gambling is in the form of government issued lotteries. But the markup is too high (if the ticket sales are worth say $10 million, then just $1-2 million will be spent on the prizes). And it is mainly elderly people who purchase these lotteries. All other forms of gambling are prohibited, including online gambling. But there are a lot of people who indulge in online gambling. And in this sector, the younger participants outnumber the older ones by a huge margin.

Delhi Capitals had a high number of wickets falling, with players falling from the start. Although they ended up with 153 runs, this 153 runs would be impossible for Kolkata Knight Riders to ever challenge. Because I have seen the previous games Delhi Capital team can not perform well in terms of bowling. Basically, they bowled Axar Patel in the last minute, he was the only one who performed well, but the rest of the players of the Delhi Capitals team did not perform well in terms of bowling. Losing this match the Delhi Capitals team moved to the sixth position in the points table, if Axar Patel and the rest of the bowlers could have performed well then the Delhi Capitals team would have won.

A few seasons ago, Delhi Capitals had one of the best bowling lineups for any team in the Indian Premier League. They had strike bowlers such as Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, who formed a formidable pair. But once Rabada left the franchise, Nortje was defanged. On Rabada's place now they have Khaleel Ahmed and Rasikh Salam, who are simply not having the same skill set. And for spin they have Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Two world class bowlers, who are out of form at the moment.

What is happening with Mitchell Starc? Yesterday he returned figures of 3-0-43-1. On the other hand, the other two pacers (Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana) had economy rates of 7 per over. Perhaps Starc is not suitable for T20 cricket. But then, why did Kolkata Knight Riders spent such an insane amount to get this guy in their squad? Also I don't know why Venkatesh Iyer is not bowling nowadays. He can be a wicket taking bowler in T20 format, but I don't remember him bowling for KKR this season.

At the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024, 7 matches are remaining in the group phase. Netherlands will be taking on Zimbabwe, and in case they lose then they may not be able to qualify for the semi-finals. Already they suffered an upset defeat against the United Arab Emirates women, so tomorrow's match is a must win for them. Sri Lanka and Ireland are also having matches tomorrow, against Uganda and Ireland respectively. We can expect them to win these, as the opponents are quite weak.

Very disappointing result for the Dutch women at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier. Today they went down against the United Arab Emirates Women by a massive margin of 10 wickets. Thailand Women on the other hand got their first win after they were able to defeat the Uganda Women. As of  now, Sri Lanka and Ireland are at the top of Group A and Group B respectively. And both these teams have only played two matches each so far. They maybe the favorites to qualify as well.

After their win today, the Kolkata Knight Riders have cemented their position as the no.2 team in points table. And in terms of net run rate (NRR), they are at the first place (+1.096). If they had won today, then Delhi Capitals might have gone to the second place, but now they are relegated to the 6th position. Delhi batting was entirely dependent on Jake Fraser-McGurk, and once he got out the top and middle order collapsed. If not for Kuldeep Yadav, they would have struggled to make 120.

A big target of 213 runs given by Chennai team Hyderabad is a very strong team, and the pitch is also batting friendly. Even then, it will be very difficult for Hyderabad to win by 213 runs. Chennai bowlers are bowling very well today.

At the end of 4 overs, Hyderabad managed to collect 42 runs. The team averaged more than 10 per over. But the important thing is that Hyderabad have already lost three important wickets today. Abhishek Sharma scored 13 off 7 balls, Travis head scored 15 off 9 balls and Anmolpreet Singh failed to score any runs. If Marakram and Klaasen can't stay at the crease then Hyderabad will surely lose today's match. The team still needs 171 runs to win.

It is surprising, isn't it? Travis Head is someone who destroyed bowlers such as Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar and Lockie Ferguson a few days back. And he, as well as Abhishek struggled against medium pacer Tushar Deshpande. At least on paper, Chennai Super Kings has one of the weakest bowling lineups for any franchises in this tournament. But Deshpande bowled beautifully today and in case Mustafizur Rahman, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar can offer some support, then CSK will win the match today.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are once again on the backfoot. Travis Head is gone, and Anmolpreet Singh followed him in the next ball. Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram are at the crease with Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy to follow next. SRH need to be very careful here. If Abhishek  gets out, then it will get really difficult for them. Really surprised with Tushar Deshpande so far. He was extremely expensive in the previous matches. And in this match, he nabbed the most destructive batsmen of the season.

Edit: Deshpande does it again. Abhishek Sharma is gone.

Vanuatu Women batsmen lost wickets one after another to bat against the target of 155 runs given by the Netherlands Women's team. The batting weakness of the Vanuatu Women batsmen was clearly exposed against the Netherlands Women. Of course, the Vanuatu Women batsmen should have batted responsibly as the Dutch team struggled to bat against the 155-run target set by the Netherlands as Vanuatu Women were bowled out for just 54 runs. Netherlands Women's team wins by 100 runs against Vanuatu Women.

They don't stand a chance against Netherlands. The Dutch are perhaps the strongest associate women's team, with tons of experience. Batting first Netherlands set a massive total of 154/6, with Sterre Kalis scoring 70. And in return they bowled out Vanuatu for just 54. Babette de Leede was playing in her 52nd T20I. For Sterre Kalis it was 31st, and for Heather Siegers it was 46th. Robine Rijke, Iris Zwilling and Eva Lynch have played in 52, 48 and 40 T20I matches respectively.

This time we have an extraordinary season where strike rate of 200 plus is considered as the norm. And then we have Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 9 runs from 12 balls. That too against ordinary bowlers such as Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed and Jaydev Unadkat. The Chennai Super Kings  management need to take a few tough decisions. They can even promote Daryl Mitchell or Moeen Ali as the opener along with Ruturaj Gaikwad. At this point, it is stupidity to sustain with Rahane.

When Pakistan was playing very well in the powerplay and playing with a run rate of 10 or more than 10 but I have seen that a time the current run rate touched to 12 but if they maintain this run rate for some time then they could make a huge target whereas New Zealand had to face difficulties to chase.
However, Pakistan won the match, its enough but for the future they had to be prepared for this and to make a huge target. I think in every match, they have to try to make more than 200 runs against every team then we can say that Pakistan won with a good run rate.

And If the New Zealand team send their C or D team, that's their headache that they do want to give preference to the IPL league matches or to the International matches scheduled by the ICC.

It doesn't matter whether New Zealand sent their C or D team. In the end, they were able to draw the series 2-2.

BTW, there is disappointing news from the County Championship. Rain has interrupted play once again. Quite a few overseas players are in spotlight, including Colin Ackermann (century against Essex), Kyle Abbott (4 wickets against Surrey), Migael Pretorius (49 from 34 balls against Worcestershire) and Marchant de Lange (6 wickets against Middlesex). Unfortunately, a lot of matches are getting washed out and this is very frustrating both for the fans and players.

I also don't understand why Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins took such a decision in today's match. Cummins should have won the toss and decided to bat. Because Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to collect big in almost every match by batting earlier.

At the end of 18 overs, Chennai team managed to collect 192 runs after losing 2 wickets. Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 93 runs and Dube on 30 runs. Chennai team will be able to provide a target like 220-225. That's a pretty big target. However, Hyderabad's batting order is very strong. So if Chennai's bowlers fail to bowl well, there is no chance of Chennai winning.

Perhaps it was due to something in the pitch? Chennai Super Kings made a 200 plus total, but given the trend so far Sunrisers Hyderabad maybe able to easily chase it down. Feels bad for the CSK captain (Ruturaj Gaikwad). He missed a century by just two runs, as SRH's strike bowler nabbed him. And as usual, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has came out to bat in the 20th over. Shivam Dube from the other end is smashing balls quite well. In the end, the target for SRH is set at 213, which is doable IMO.

I agree with you. Ronaldo and Messi's rivalry has become an icon in football and will never be forgotten by all football fans around the world. Some of my friends like City, United, Inter, Chelsea, Liverpool, Milan, Arsenal but during El Classico everything becomes between Real Madrid and Barcelona, between Ronaldo and Messi. I think it took a long time to find a rivalry that could make fans of other clubs in football unite to see the rivalry between these two players. But I think they will still play in the 2026 world cup but of course it can't be a rivalry like before.

I am not sure whether they will feature in the 2026 world cup. In case of Ronaldo there is a higher probability, but let's not forget what happened in 2022. Ronaldo was not even included in the playing XI for some of the knockout matches. So if he was not included in 2022, what are the chances of the same happening again in 2026? And now coming to Messi, he doesn't seems to be a lot interested in playing in another world cup. He has achieved all that he wanted. So there is no point.

This is really funny. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their second consecutive match, and still they are at the rock bottom of the points table. Gujarat Titans have lost their momentum. Their selection policies are absurd. There is a special preference being given to Afghan players, which means that talented players such as Josh Little can never find a place in the playing XI. Apart from David Miller, all the other foreign players in their XI are Afghans (Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad). And none of them are in good form.

Pakistan managed to draw the series 2-2, after winning the final match. It is still a moral victory for New Zealand. They were playing in hostile conditions, and some of their regular players were unavailable for the series. And given the way that the New Zealand players performed so far in this series, I would say that they have a really good chance of entering at least the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, which is about to start in a couple of months. On the other hand, Pakistan team needs a comprehensive brain storming to analyze their weaknesses.
