161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: transferring bitcoin to paypal on: March 04, 2018, 07:12:49 PM
I have done identical exchanges in the past using Localbitcoins. It doesn't necessary leak your information to third parties, assuming that the person you do business with doesn't include a note saying "Bitcoin exchange". Always make sure to do some background check, before dealing with a person on LocalBitcoins, for example check some reviews about the dealer and google his username. Also read the instructions of the system, because newbies are an easy target for scams.
162  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Re: SEGWIT, hoe pas ik segwit toe? on: March 04, 2018, 06:59:37 PM

163  Other / Meta / Re: MERIT SYSTEM PROBLEM on: March 03, 2018, 09:10:54 PM
The so called "merit sources" don't belong in a forum regarding bitcoin, there should be a decentralized system instead. It's just a central agency that decides whether your post is valuable or not. They're also capable of distributing more merits, exactly how a central bank works. But I understand that immediate action needed to be taken to stop the increasing spam on this forum. However, I think there should be a different system to prevent this forum from spammers although I can't think of one myself right now
164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin support aliases? on: March 03, 2018, 08:03:01 PM
That doesn't belong in a decentralized system, it would need third parties to redirect the funds to the right address. There was a proposal for aliases but it didn't get a mutual consent, to be precise BIP15 by Amir Taaki
165  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Re: Terug in mining, waar te beginnen? on: March 03, 2018, 05:34:34 PM

167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can the idea of creating a Bitcoin Bank solve the problem of transactions? on: March 02, 2018, 05:42:20 PM
The purpose of Bitcoin's blockchain is too keep it decentralized, with your system it's not. That might increase the confirmation time, like it does for Ripple but that isn't really considered a decentralized currency. More problems wil follow if you would use it, for example how are you going to do distribution of coins? Also in Bitcoin there shouldn't be one party that can control whether a transaction needs to be frozen or not, that's exactly what the central bank does and what Bitcoin users don't want.
168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto for Teenagers on: February 28, 2018, 10:43:25 PM
You shouldn't treat them different than adults, they're old enough to make their own decisions. If she is truly passionate about Bitcoin then why would you stop her from doing it, I feel it's better that someone learns about some valuable technology instead of buying games. I started with Bitcoin when I was a teenager too, even younger than 16. Bitcoin thought me a lot about computer science, economics and I still learn more about this fascinating technology.
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Using Whois to prevent possible scams on: February 28, 2018, 10:35:11 PM
I am trying to use WHOIS to know who is the owner of some ICO related web pages. Sometimes the identity is protected. Should I immediately suspect these? Is there any good reason to have it hidden?
I am talking about the WHOIS service of the internet domain registration authorities.

Bitcoin's creator was also anonymous, so it's not saying everything. However ICOs should have some valid information about their identity, in my opinion. Because they try to sell you something, which Bitcoin didn't. But some countries have strict rules and therefore don't want to give their identity to the public. I guess you can say it's a bigger risk, but it's not a guaranteed scam.
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best masternode coin under 2k? on: February 28, 2018, 10:28:09 PM
All masternode coins seem to be valued under 2k, even Dash. But I guess that is not what you intended to ask but rather what coins let you have a mastenode for under 2k? In case, see this website: www.masternodes.pro , it has a detail overview of most masternode coins and their prices. Most people seem to have a SmartCash masternode but it's just over 2k.
171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit is fully supported now, when is the Lightning Network? on: February 27, 2018, 03:59:06 PM
There are already Lightning nodes running on the mainnet, so it should be possible to make a lightning transaction. But as far as I know there isn't a really user-friendly client out here that let's you make these transactions, meaning that you have to do it manually and that requires knowledge.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POSW help on: February 27, 2018, 03:48:22 PM
If Cryptopia didn't mention anything about the swap then it's recommend to take precautions to be sure that you don't lose anything. I don't know this altcoin but I presume it works with Public-key cryptography and in Cryptopia you don't have access to your private key, so that means that you can't manage it beyond their interface. Their desktop wallet seems to be your safest option: https://posw.io/get-wallet/.
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it worth chasing hardforks? on: February 27, 2018, 03:40:06 PM
I am not really a fan of hardforks, therefore the only hardfork I claimed was Bitcoin Cash. All others seem to be worthless in terms of value, so I'm not really into it. The recent forks all had a pre-mine, so it's clear that these people are just creating these forks for the profit.
174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: stop listening to false news on: February 27, 2018, 03:14:46 PM
I notice propaganda about Bitcoin everywhere, last week I was watching speed-skating on the national TV and the presentator was seriously making a comparison about a falling Olympian and the falling price of Bitcoin, without mentioning that the market recovered 40%. Besides that, I don't take the news very serious when they don't understand what a public key or when they say fiat is backed by gold and therefore better. The central banks are scared and right now their biggest rival is Bitcoin, so don't let them change your vision.
175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is this a good group? on: February 27, 2018, 02:41:49 PM
I stumbled upon this Pump group. Seems Legit and has great reputation.
What are your thoughts?

https://t.me/joinchat/AAAAAEtKUe6oej1_qut--w
Pump groups in general are just a bad idea, only the owners of that group makes profits. You will just be a puppet, that brings in the money while they cash out, the result for you is loss.
176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in College??? on: February 27, 2018, 02:04:58 PM
I have never heard about a college course that is all about Bitcoin, there might be courses that include projects regarding Bitcoin. For example, a user here told me that he built a FPGA miner during his electrical engineering course. Maybe the future will be teaching Bitcoin in college courses, as the demand for blockchain applications is growing and so does the work field.
177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How binance exchange the currency? on: February 27, 2018, 11:35:43 AM
I transfer to binance but i dint get any conversion there
What do you mean with conversion?

The specific coin you send to Binance will be displayed on Binance as the same coin, you need to do the conversioin (exchange) yourself.
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to find lost bitcoins? on: February 27, 2018, 11:31:55 AM
Brute-forcing is the only way to recover the Bitcoins if the harddrive is wiped and the paper is gone. But that could easily take you years to recover, maybe even hundred of years. These coins are therefore considered to be gone.
179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmain’s profit made up to $4 billion last year on: February 27, 2018, 11:23:45 AM
That's the danger of the monopoly Bitmain has, they could control the network if they want. But it's really hard to compete with them, to produce a small batch of custom designed ASICs would cost you millions. Let's hope that Samsung can stop their monopoly and that more companies will join the competition.
180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you like bitcoin, what's your reason? on: February 27, 2018, 11:14:25 AM
I like Bitcoin a lot, especially when I compare it to traditional payment systems. My reason for it is the zero requirements it has to use it, I can generate an address and receive Bitcoins to it. That's much different than bank accounts, were they need all your personal information to register an account or a service like PayPal that also needs your email and much more. Bitcoin doesn't care if you use a new address for every payment, that also adds so much privacy to the system.
