My point was to say that the only affect it will have on each person is: It will decrease variance.

Yep. Some miners like seeing more blocks come in, while others don't like seeing their "pay per block" go down. But the way it really affects each miner is to reduce variance.
I apologize if I'm just beating a dead horse at this point.  What if the HashPower purchase ended up being super lucky and generated 5 blocks in the first few shifts of the massive increase of hash power and then we hit an unlucky streak of zero blocks until the shares from the increased hash rate had passed out of the last 10 shifts?  In that case, wouldn't the increased shares have benefited the pool more than they benefited the person who purchased shares from HashPower?

It's a leased run from Hashpower.com Cheesy

I sure wish I had 300GH in my own hardware.. but alas, only 4.5GH of that is actually my own gear
I haven't heard of hashpower.com.  I heard some bad things about GPUMAX a while back.  Has HashPower become the best alternative?

Hmm - i can't wait to get home today and see in person one of my machines I'm just screwing around with reach 580MH/s with stock 5770 and 6790 installed...didn't think they would go that high (I thought the most from a 5770 was about 240MH/s and from a 6790 about 220MH/s) as per this chart: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

And I'm glad that big block finally ended!
You really have to oc/ov a 5770 to get that high. I keep mine at 960mhz, stock voltage, and get 215-220mh. I don't want to mess with the issues overvolting can bring, but as always, to each his own.
Just my opinion, but the issues overvolting can cause are not worth it.  If you're only air cooling, expect the life of your video card to be drastically reduced.  If you're water cooling, everything may be fine, but it's still a coin toss in my experience.  Maybe I just suck at installing water blocks properly, though...

I guess its only deserving that a 20 block day is followed by a day of long blocks!
The day is improving, however!  Smiley

I wish there was a way to redeem NMC natively within the bitminter site instead of screwing around getting an NMC wallet lol
I created an account at Vircurex and generated a NMC address there.  I just deposit my NMC from BitMinter to that address and then trade them for BTC.

Is there manual payout? setting auto payout even if lowering threshold to less than my balance I need to wait for next solved block before it sends my funds to me...I do not see a manual cash out option
For example, if you were to turn on auto cash out right now, as of the time of my post, you would get paid in 9 minutes.

I'm happy either way.

I'm guessing a Belgian Tripel.  Too dark to be a weizen, and it's the wrong type of glass.

Back on topic, what's the cut for MasterCard transactions?
Perhaps an IPA with lots of hops.  Smiley

you'll see
you knocked on the bears door, that's what you did.
price will fall well below 12$. the block reward halfing will have no effect on price, and then people will panic  Tongue

I agree with the block reward halving will have no effect, but I think the pricing is going to continue to go up until we reach that point as everyone is anticipating it causing the price to increase.

Not everyone is anticipating it causing the price to increase...
My guess is that the only aspect of the block reward halving that might cause the price to trickle up is that there will be 3600 fewer freshly minted coins per day.  The portion of those coins that were being immediately sold on a daily basis may or may not be large enough to affect supply and demand.  We'll see!

Yes, this is what roll-ntime is about. Miners are allowed to generate new work to hash by fiddling with the block's timestamp (referred to as "ntime"). This way they don't have to talk to the server several times per second (in the case of fast miners) to get new work. As long as you don't get too far away from actual time this is OK and the block will be accepted by the rest of the bitcoin network.

ah, quite cool!  Thanks for the info!

Will
Ditto!  I finally understand what roll-ntime means!  All I understood before now was that it allows miners to go longer without talking to the server.

As you all know I loathe BFL.
Yes, we've been well aware of that for some time...

I, however, love BFL.  I need to remember to send Sonny something for Christmas.  He's awesome.

The site's down, but my miners are still running fine.

Back up again. There's a problem with the web server. It locks up randomly with no error message and becomes completely unresponsive. So it's a bit difficult to figure out what the problem is. I'll keep a watch on it and see if I can find out what's going on. Sorry for the instability. Sad

You're the man Doc.  Your efforts are appreciated by us all.

I suppose better might be to display the timestamps in a timezone chosen by the user, but that would take a bit more work.
+1 to user customizable timezone so timestamps on shifts and blocks show up as each user's local time.  Just a nice feature for someday, not critical.

Looks like Entropy is the winner! Grats man!

Props to Fefox for the (I'm assuming) GPUMAX purchase.  Here's to good luck for the pool while those shares remain in the last 10 shifts.

Happy birthday, Bitcurex guy!

Also, I received your response via E-Mail this morning.  Thank you for re-sending it; my E-Mail was having issues for a few days.
177  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Win Bitcurex card + 5 BTC: Race for BitMinter block no. 1000 ! on: September 20, 2012, 01:39:47 AM
Bitcurex arrives to up the ante. In addition to the 5 BTC for the winner there will also be a Bitcurex card ! If you want to cash out some of the coins you minted, this is the perfect way to do it. Details above have been updated.

The race is on !

Hi Doc,

Do you have a Bitcurex card?  If so, have you had any luck checking the balance via SMS?

Strange.  I just decided to glance at my MiniRigs before going to bed and I found that they had not been mining for 3/4 of a shift.  The BitMinter client showed errors about having run out of work.  I normally have about 800-1200 work units queued, but it was only showing 200-ish.  After I closed BitMinter and relaunched it, they started mining as usual.

This has never happened before.  Doc, do you suppose a change in version 1.3 could be the culprit, or is it more likely an inexplicable fluke?

With 200 work units queued they were mining, right? If there was a network problem for a while they should pick right up again after connectivity returns.

At the time they were idling, did you also get network errors, like messages about connections timing out?

The work units were fluctuating and I briefly saw the number 1.50 (GH/s I assume, didn't notice) before I closed BitMinter.  All the miners were started, but I didn't see anything but zeros next to them.  I guess at least one must have been running, but I had already closed it before I realized that I should have looked more closely.

The only errors that were visible were the ones about running out of work.  I wish I'd spent a minute looking into it more, but I went into fix-it ASAP mode before thinking.

The host computer was running three of my friend's Singles on a second instance of BitMinter under a different Windows user and that instance was running fine when I restarted mine.  Still, there appears to have been some sort of glitch that affected both instances.  I checked my friend's BitMinter account and he had a 30% reduction of shares in the same shift.  That's not as dramatic as the 75% reduction I experienced, but it's something.

I'm still not sure what this suggests, though.  Perhaps a network issue that one instance recovered from more gracefully than the other?  I'll be sure to take better notes of what's going on if it happens again.

11 blocks today - and counting .....
Yeah, it's nice when we hit a good stretch of luck.  I'm feeling sick over my own performance, though.  I haven't generated a block in six days!  If it all averages out, maybe I'll generate 3-4 blocks for the pool in a day...Hoping!
