161  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-21] World Governments Have Declared War on Bitcoin: John McAfee on: September 21, 2017, 03:25:08 PM
The battle lines have been drawn between sovereign governments and the legitimacy of cryptocurrencies, warned anti virus software pioneer John McAfee during the first global blockchain technology event in Hong Kong since China imposed a ban on cryptocurrency sales and trading on exchanges earlier this month.

Among core issues in the US$150 billion industry are how nations can apply taxation to cryptocurrency transactions and whether there should be curbs on the ability for bitcoin and other virtual currencies to facilitate global fund flows.

"Today will go down in history as the beginning of the war between the proponents of cryptocurrency and the world governments," McAfee told the South China Morning Post of the growing conflict between governments and the "fugitives" subculture who back the development of virtual currencies.

What's more, bitcoin's status varies in different jurisdictions. Australia said it would remove the double taxation on transactions involving cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, while China has yet to define the legal status of virtual currencies.

"If governments aren't able to know what the movement is they will be unable to collect revenues. That's going to cause panic in some countries. China sees it already," McAfee said....

163  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-20]US bank CEOs are likely 'very afraid' of bitcoin, says wealth advisor on: September 20, 2017, 01:29:31 PM
CEOs of U.S. banks are likely "very afraid" of bitcoin, according to a wealth advisor.

Some financiers have said the cryptocurrency is an unwise investment because of its volatility or supposedly weak store of value, but bank chiefs have another reason to dislike bitcoin, said Rainer Michael Preiss, executive director at Taurus Wealth Advisors.

"Of course, if you run a very large U.S. bank, most probably you are afraid of blockchain and bitcoin," said Rainer Michael Preiss, executive director at Taurus Wealth Advisors.

His comments came after JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon called bitcoin a "fraud" last Tuesday.

Preiss countered, however, that cryptocurrencies could present investors with a viable alternative given the uncertainty from banking's lack of transparency.

"The concerns are about the fractional reserve banking system, and the balance sheet of the Federal Reserve at $4.5 trillion, where the Fed officially refuses an audit," he said. "On the other hand, on the bitcoin blockchain, you have an audit everyday because it's open-sourced."

The digital currency uses blockchain technology to record every transaction that occurs, granting all users full view of the digital ledger.

Cryptocurrencies could also be a "systemic hedge" against the risk of asset price inflation — an increase in the prices of assets that are not everyday items — which central banks have potentially helped to create, Preiss added.

Bitcoin's price has jumped from $700 to $4,000 since Jan. 2014, he said, adding that the hike has signalled "a good store of value" for some. He noted that Dimon had claimed the exact opposite about currency's value store in a 2014 interview with CNBC.

The digital currency was priced at about $3,900 Wednesday afternoon in Asia. It had rebounded nearly $1,000 after a huge plunge last week following announcements by major bitcoin exchanges in China that they planned to close by month-end.

165  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-18] $4,000: Bitcoin's Price Shrugs Off China Exchange News on: September 18, 2017, 08:44:10 PM
Bitcoin's price has bounced back above $4,000 following market losses linked to the recent regulatory crackdown in China.

After China's early September ban on initial coin offerings (ICOS), news on September 15 that bitcoin exchanges were shutting down following directives from government officials sparked a market drop that sent prices reeling to a low of $2,981.

Since then, however, markets have recovered, and this morning's session saw bitcoin reach a price of $4,061 at press time, according to CoinDesk's Bitcoin Price Index.

Other cryptocurrencies are experiencing gains today as well. The combined cryptocurrency market capitalization is currently at $137 billion, according to CoinMarketCap data, up from a low of below $100 billion just three days ago.

Among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap, several have seen notable rises in the past 24 hours, with ether (19 percent), bitcoin cash (14.3 percent) and IOTA (26.2 percent) reporting significant gains.

167  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-16]If Jamie Dimon Hates It So Much,Why Is JPMorgan Buying Bitcoin In EU on: September 16, 2017, 10:48:24 PM
Anecdotally, the post-Dimon collapse in crypto prices seems to confirm his view (though of course this is much more due to China concerns than a vested interest fearmonger), which makes us wonder... why is JPMorgan buying Bitcoin ETFs on European exchanges?

Nasdaq Stockholm has an actively traded Bitcoin ETN...

'Bitcoin Tracker One - SEK' is an open-end Exchange Traded Note incorporated in Sweden. The ETN is denominated in SEK and provides investors with access to the returns of the underlying asset, US Dollar per bitcoin, less investor fees.  The average USD exchange rate of bitcoin from the exchanges:- Bitfinex, Bitstamp and GDAX provides the underlying reference price which is converted into SEK.

In the last few days - as the underlying price collapsed - the ETN has remained bid, with heavy inflows, and now trades at around 20% premium to Net Asset Value...

And guess who has been buying?
JPMorgan Securities was the 4th biggest buyer...

Which suggest two scenarios... Either
    i) JPMorgan is buying for its own account at Dimon-manipulated-lower prices (remember Dimon said any trader who bought Bitcoin would be fored for being "stupid"), or
ii) JPMorgan is buying for clients, seemingly offering no sense of fiduciary care amid Dimon's warning to the world that the cryptocurrency is a fraud (is JPMorgan Securities knowingly allowing clients to buy securities it believes are a fraud?)

168  Bitcoin / Press / 09-16 China’s three largest bitcoin exchanges ll all stop offering local trading on: September 16, 2017, 12:27:16 PM
Well, that didn’t take long. Yesterday, China’s longest running bitcoin exchange, BTC China, announced it will suspend its local trading service at the end of this month, and today the country’s two other major exchanges — Huobi and OKCoin — followed suit to say they will cease at the end of October.

The writing was on the wall when The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that the Chinese government intended to shut down bitcoin exchanges after banning ICOs the previous week. Government officials then began meeting with exchanges this week to bring about the trading suspensions, a source with knowledge of discussions told TechCrunch.

While the exchanges will no longer be allowed to facilitate the buying of crypto coins using Chinese Yuan and the trading of coins, they will continue to operate international-facing exchanges and other associated services. Smaller exchanges, however, will be closing for good. Those include Yunbi, which announced in Chinese it will shut up shop on September 20.

The impact of the crackdown sent bitcoin prices falling — with the crypto currency dropping below $3,000 on some exchanges for the first time in a month — but it quickly rebounded and, at the time of writing, it had nearly made up the losses.

As with all things bitcoin, it is difficult to be sure exactly why, but there are plenty of reasons.

Most importantly, China is no longer the dominant in bitcoin trader it once was. A series of government bans — most recently a four-month trading freeze due to security concerns — have seen its share of global trading drop from more than 90 percent in previous years to just over 10 percent today. Markets like Japan, Korea and the U.S. have emerged to account for the lion’s share of global trading volumes, so the impact of this China ban is not as severe as it initially may seem.

The price of the AVT token substantially increased (36.12%). It should soon enter a new exchange. Then we should expect further increases.

The price seems lower than the ICO price (1ETH=92AVT) just after the ICO, as far as I can see, there is no bonus for early investors, so why some of investors choose to sell them and lose some money in so short time?

But also the eth price is lower now. It's what usually happens and after an ico on following exchanges...
yep, the price now is almost the half of ICO price (1.70$), does anyone knows the Circulating Supply of Aventus tokens??
171  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-14] The first of China’s top bitcoin exchanges has announced on: September 14, 2017, 02:29:16 PM
A number of China’s top bitcoin exchanges are preparing to suspend their services following instructions from the government. BTC China, one of the country’s top three, became the first to officially make the move after it announced today that will stop all trading for China-based customers from September 30.

The company said other services, including its BTCC Pool for miners, are not impacted and will continue to run. There’s no word on when, or indeed whether, it will reintroduce trading.

Huobi, another leading Chinese exchange, confirmed to TechCrunch it has not received guidance from the government.

“As a Chinese enterprise, we are strictly compliant with the regulations, meanwhile, we put our users’ best interests as the top priority. Stay tuned with our announcement if there is any change,” a spokesperson said.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that the Chinese government and the country’s central bank intended to shut down bitcoin exchanges. That report followed an official on ICOs which was announced last week.

Those developments come before the next major meeting of China’s communist party, and they have put the China crypto rumor mill to full speed.

While there is lots of speculation, TechCrunch has confirmed with two sources with knowledge of developments that government officials have visited a number of top exchanges to instruct that they cease trading services on Chinese soil soon. At this point we understand that the government hasn’t given a hard deadline for when that should be, nor has it indicated whether it will allow services to resume in the future.

China banned bitcoin trading for major institutions in December 2013, and a four-month freeze was imposed on trading this year due to security concerns. The space has come under increased scrutiny in 2017 following a boom in raising money via ICOs, which has already passed $1.7 billion this year, and soaring valuations for bitcoin and Ethereum. The former surged past $4,500 per coin this summer, and it even surpassed $5,000 on some exchanges.
