I have had that question in the back of my mind this whole time. My question is, will they still be worth the same when they reach 21 million?
The main thinking behind this is that once bitcoin reaches 21 million, the value will be so great that there is no reason not to mine, because miners will still receive transaction fees.

OS doesn't matter that much, just go with Ubuntu or barebones linux if you're experienced enough with Linux. There really won't be much effect on hashrate.

Looks great, I wish you the best. How much would you sell each of these units for?

I'm guessing 15 years old
Probably. I'm amazed how many people my age are so stupid. No one does their research before jumping into something.

.. excepting the mechanical parts in mining rig (ok .. that's .. what .. a few watts per fan, but still :p ) Even the fans ultimately produce heat. And one of my heaters already has a fan anyway. It's pretty funny. Even the light from the monitor ultimately becomes heat when matter absorbs the photons.

Why would people still mine at profitability close to zero?
I already have hardware, my house heats up with electircity (which is cheap). Why not mine until summer when no heating needed anymore? Well, by reducing the lifespan of your hardware then it is no longer a good deal.

The hashrate of the network is already beginning a decline as people shut off their rigs.

How old were those mobos?

Network hash rate hit 825mh/s today, we may see diff 30 relatively soon
The issue is that price won't support that high difficulty, so it should drop down very fast.

I used the coins to buy pci-e x1- pci-e x16 extenders. My last GPU rig was built on 21 august 2012. I am not going to build GPU rigs anymore. I hoard most of the coins. I used a small part of the coins to place preorders at BFL and bASIC. If the ASICS are true and hash as promised I will order more.
Litecoins are a very viable alternative for GPU miners right now.. not sure about the future though. However I do suspect the price to rise when all the GPU miners switch to litecoin in the future, of course the difficulty will ensue which is why it is a good time to switch.

Seems like a great alternative similar to RPI. Hope the project goes well!

Received, plugged it in and it's mining away like a boss.
Quick and fast transaction, thanks!
+1 to Underminer

The price is BLOWING and ROCKETING up!

Once ASICs are out, and mining bitcoins as an amateur is no longer an option, I will most definitely be going to litecoin
What happens if BTC Value goes up and the difficulty of the litecoin network goes to the moon? and Litecoin price drops to the bottom of the ocean, it is great to be able to mine something, but there is limited use for LTC and eventually people willing to pay Bitcoins for it will dry up... despite the wishes of the masses I do not see Litecoin being the GPU miners saviour I really hope to be wrong.... but dont expect to be. Limited use? Bitcoin had limited use upon its creation as well. All it takes is time, there's already projects being developed for LTC and it will continue to grow.

I will buy old gpu's, and use them to heat my house =D It's cold and rainy where I live, and heating is useful everywhere! I figure 10 kwh through video cards is better returns than 10 kwh through heaters =/
Ah, yes and no. Heaters will probably give you more efficient conversion of power to heat compared to the cards, but it might be close. For converting electrical energy to heat, almost any device is effective because it's basically the "waste" that's heat. Gas -> heat is still more cost-effective though. It is more cost effective to use GPUs as a heat source if your house does not have gas infrastructure. A 10kW electric furnace produces the same amount of heat equivalent to 10 kW of GPUs. You can just pipe all the heat produced into the fan that can distribute heat to the vents of your house.

Haha and the only ones who can adapt to the new algorithm will be those still holding GPUs. And everyone who dumped their GPUs to recoup their investment and buy ASICs will be crying to buy the GPUs back. That is juat SAD!!!!, FPGA's can also be re-purposed just by loading in a new *.Bit file. So much for your 'theory' Also ASIC can be repurposed IF......... they are designed correctly.....HC Isn't that a complete contradiction of the term ASIC? Ask yourself that...

Why would BFL do this? They already have more pre-orders than they can count.
Funny question, they would do it if they were scamming people.. the more pre-orders they have, the more money they can run away with. However I am not to judge, if they do deliver then good for them. However I am certain they will be late on delivery if they do, and the specs will be overrated by quite a bit.

Great! I wonder if they simply misinterpreted new laws coming into effect in Hong Kong.

We are under attack but so far the server seems to be able to handle it What's with the bitcoin elitists attacking LTC? Seems like several pools have been under attack recently.
