161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Poloniex account hacked and all monies traded away,TICKET NUMBER #271818 on: July 04, 2017, 06:48:59 PM
And all of you didn't have 2FA enabled so how do you know that it was Poloniex's database that was hacked?

As I said file your complaints and lawsuits.  I see no issue with Poloniex right now other than them not forcing people to use proper security.  I am using proper security and not worried about the problems you're complaining about.  If I get bit then I'll join your lawsuit.  If you start it at least you can be the principle that will get the most gains from a victory.  All I see at this point is 3 people on an unrelated forum that claim they were hacked when all evidence points to failure to secure accounts.

Fourtoes no one was looking to you for answers other than wondering why the hell you're putting up page after page of nonsensical drivel that had no purpose other than to make you look like a raving lunatic.

Congrats you keep succeeding.

Weren't you done a long time ago?  Like 3 times now
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: July 04, 2017, 02:27:27 PM
Bravo at least you're willing to admit why you were posting what you did.  To be fair Kelly likely got under Fourtoes skin by attempting to shame him into support of Maxcoin.  Something that seems like a stupid tactic and just as blindly hopeful as Fourtoes likely was in his years of mining without taking profits.

I admit I couldn't even make it through half of what Fourtoes was even trying to say in his posts because it largely seemed like the mindless rambling writing just for the sake of reading his own words.  None of it was insightful or well formed.  It sounded more like what a drunk would write when they can't control the stream of their own consciousness anymore.  There might have been bits of wisdom in there, but it was far too drowned out by mindless soliloquy.  Was it to demonstrate intelligence or was it just to make people confused?  I guess it doesn't matter if you aren't willing to pay attention to it.  Not to mention to say you are leaving multiple times only to return to a spout more pages of text just demonstrates his lack of wanting to commit to the choices he's made.

I kinda disagree on "its easy to hack" - we all have accounts for mail, ebay, paypal and so forth which store some value.
No arguing that 2fa is an important countermeasure- but i would not feel very safe at this exchange anymore.
A little while ago only people who used VPN had had 2fa with special tokens. And somehow we have not all had sudden successful logins in our paypals
or whatever - these guys got owned in some way and do not admit it. Even if someone got a hold of the hashed passwords, a good salting of these hashes could have prevented this.
Going there saying "hey i have 2fa, i am safe" feels a bit wrong for me . You never know what happens next in this hostile environment...
I am going to delete my account there, they have not even responded to my request and that is the last nail in the coffin for my trust.

Certainly do what you need to do to feel confident and safe.  Poloniex is a US based company that has a lot of liability if things go wrong, so it is not some fly in the night operation that is going to disappear without any repercussions if there are problems.  Bring a lawsuit if you think that you have evidence to prove wrong doing, but as I mentioned that's not free and will require time and effort.  The point is that people who have 2FA generally are not hacked unless there is a social engineering component or other accounts that would allow access to the OTP or private keys to be accessed.  Even then there are other safeguards that are in place to prevent it.  The fact is that these people are likely complicit in their hacking and they don't admit it.  The same thing has happened for years and years on plenty of other services and people still think that it will never happen to them therefore they get lazy and don't enable the security features.  Take your money where you feel safe and secure, but all the Poloniex problems are now showing up on Coinbase/GDAX as well and people aren't calling that a scam.  When you have explosive 1m new customers per month type of growth there is a LOT of growing pains and you're going to have a fairly large number of stupid people who don't do what they need to do to protect themselves.  It only takes one to make a post like this on the forums and 1-9 more going me too to make it sound like there are hoards being hacked.

That doesn't mean that Poloniex or anyone else is immune from hacking, but they have a vested interest in making sure that doesn't happen.  Especially when they have had to be registered with the SEC and following money laundering rules just to operate.  Then again maybe this is just me be complacent and ignoring signs that are really are red flags.  Either way you shouldn't be putting money into investments unless you are willing to lose it all, especially if you aren't doing everything you can do to protect it.

I'm mining DGB Skein running 2 rigs with a total hashrate of about 5.5GH/s.

I noticed that the payments started to get irregular, even though I mine at exactly the same speed the last 24 hours. The rigs have been running at full speed continously.

Here is a paste of the latest transactions with a strange gap between 13:00 and 13:30. Usually I get about 100 DGB per hour (and 8DGB every ~5 minutes). But now it was two hours between 100 DGB's. Why is that?

It is going to fluctuate depending on the share rate that the pool has relative to the Net hashrate of the coin.  If more miners flood into the coin your relative hashrate and therefore share is reduced and therefore your payout is going to be less.   This is why you can't effectively mine Bitcoin directly unless you have a massive hashrate because the net hashrate of everyone in the world is massive.  It also may be that miners are shifting from one DGB algorithm to another affecting the difficulty and share of one vs another.  To maximize profits you'd have to compare your hashrate for the algorithm compared to the overall difficulty/net hashrate of the algorithm and even then if there are more miners coming to mine the coin you'll end up with less returns.  Also if the overall hashrate of the pool increases your share of all the coins found by the pool will be less as well.

electra coin price so pathetic.. even doge is higher than electra..

what do you think about eclectra coin in the future? i think it could be scam coin Undecided Undecided

How is it a scamcoin?  The market controls the price so if you don't buy any then you can't get scammed.  You either are an investor in it or not just like dogecoin.

What is the future of dogecoin or any of the other hundreds of coins that seem to have no real purpose other than as an investment vehicle?

The original purpose of Dogecoin doesn't even exist anymore and yet it still continues to fluctuate in support and price.
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: July 04, 2017, 12:58:01 AM
So FlungSpun you think he should have sold instead of mining and holding all those years?  Yet Kelly seems to want to shame him for selling now?

Which is it, sell or not to sell?  Promote maxcoin or don't promote maxcoin?  Maxcoin is a speculative investment or FOMO?

Seems like you're more interested in a poking a bear than giving any actual persuasive thought.  Troll is as a troll does...

I know I mentioned this before.

I want to say that we get paid for our shares either way, but seems like we're getting quite a few orphaned blocks on Verge.  Not sure why there would be that many unless there is some kind of configuration issue on the pool.
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ECA] Electra ⚡ | POW/POS | NIST5 | Super Rewards Bonanza on: July 03, 2017, 06:42:46 PM
i start mining but the wallet is OFFLINE and not connecting almost 1 day already

i mine at 400MHS per second but im the only 1 minning? whats going on?

Electra is 100% PoS now. No more work to mining other than staking coins.  You can buy some for staking on Novaexchange
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: July 03, 2017, 03:54:59 PM
Well the reboot should never have been public until things were ready to go.  I mean all the links pointing to the same supposed "fakenews" site for the first week.  No one in control with any vision.  Being added to Yobit without any news to go with it just means that things were going to get dumped.

Here we are a couple weeks in and still nothing.  If you want to hype a coin you need to make sure the rollout is smooth and planned well.  Not all janky and half assed like this has been.  I thankfully had nothing invested in it besides the few coins I happened to mine up on Miningpoolhub.  That's the only reason I saw this post in the first place and I was looking for a place to dump the crapcoins that I accidentally mined that weren't auto-exchanged.

I don't know that this is peak bubble, but it sure seems like the idea of mining coins is going down with great abandon.  People are starting to wake up to the energy costs associated with mining and how much of a "waste" it is to have GPU's and CPU's chugging away calculating meaningless hashes.  Not to mention the looming question of quantum computing around the corner that could throw a monkey wrench in almost all current crypto based on difficult to solve math problems.  The second a computer comes online that can crack this stuff in seconds means that it all becomes worthless, even if they never actually use it for that purpose.

I wouldn't feel guilty one bit for taking your profits.  No one is required to show allegiance to anything and certainly shouldn't be shamed into thinking they should be.  Everyone makes their own choices and loyalty is a luxury not a necessity.  When Maxcoin shows some purpose other than an investment vehicle for draining people's wallets then maybe it will go somewhere.  At this point it is just another place to store some value and not a very stable or safe one at that.

Can you add Wyvern (nist5), Diamond (groestl)?

I'm pretty sure Diamond is a special groestl and crackfoo mentioned that he was only getting rejects the last time he tried to add it.

Be nice though since it seems to be a pretty profitable coin at times.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Mining Pool Hub - Multipool. Multialgo, Auto Exchange to any coin. on: July 03, 2017, 02:30:42 PM

I'd like to add 2FA too but the main problem happens when the user lost his OTP key.

Pool should reset his OTP key when user asks but how can pool distinguish him that he is the owner or just hacker.
Even I can't distinguish him even talking via Skype. No one can distinguish hacker and owner perfectly.

So, OTP reset will be just same as PIN reset process which means that email account security will be the key at last.
That's why I encourage everyone to secure their email account with OTP and ARS verification.

I believe no one would be happy to provide passport and selfy picture for mining. This is the main concern that I don't provide OTP. OTP will have same vulnerability if it's not solved.

NO You should never reset OTP key.  You tell them to save it in a safe place and you make them type it in to verify that they know what the OTP key is.  You are off the hook for making them save it.  If they lose it at that point they lose access to their coins the same way an encrypted wallet is lost if you lose it.  F2A is to prevent all hacking access and is to free you from your liability.
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: July 03, 2017, 02:25:56 PM
Especially now that there are Multi-algo pools that have auto-exchange.   Those pools might speculate a bit on the back end, but mostly they are dumping everything mined right on the markets.

Miningpoolhub allows Maxcoin mining, but doesn't have auto-exchange enabled to Yobit...yet.   It's only a matter of time

That's likely why a coin like Digibyte is being tanked over time.  Super easy to mine and all the coins just getting dumped at market prices for instant conversion to BTC.
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Poloniex account hacked and all monies traded away,TICKET NUMBER #271818 on: July 03, 2017, 04:03:58 AM
The simple fix to this is to enable 2FA on your account.  It's really not that big of a deal if you have a phone.  The 10 seconds it takes to look up an account would eliminate all of this heartache.

If you don't have the ability to have 2FA then you really shouldn't have money in your accounts.

It is so simple to hack people's accounts without that kind of protection.
175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Poloniex account hacked and all monies traded away,TICKET NUMBER #271818 on: June 30, 2017, 09:45:15 PM
Thanks, I am thinking of taking some legal action, problem is i am based in London and all my savings (17000) is gone

Except that you can't prove that you didn't just use a VPN to do it yourself.  This is the problem unless you can get some evidence of a specific person doing this then you are just as much a possible suspect as anyone else.  In fact you are likely more of a suspect because you had access to the password already.  Can you see why this is going to be a problem?

Internet transactions and connections are inherently risky.  Poloniex is NOT the custodian of your account, you are.  YOU alone are responsible for the security of your account and password.  That information very well can be compromised from a Poloniex database, but you are still responsible if there are losses incurred.

If you brought a case against them you would need to be able to prove that Poloniex was hacked and you have no way to do that.  If Poloniex at some point announced their database had been compromised then you might have the ability to bring a case.  If not you would need to get enough potential victims together to convince a judge or attorney general that there was something bigger going on to issue a search warrant or evidentiary discovery of logging data then MAYBE you might find the info you needed to potentially prove a case.  The problem is you will need likely at least 5-10+ victims totalling enough money to convince a lawyer willing to bring such a case against them.  In the end though their defense has the simple task to say that you made the choice not to protect your account using all means available to you and they have done all their legal due diligence by providing multi-layer protections to prevent unauthorized access and you chose not to use them, therefore you are at fault.

You're going to have to throw more money at the problem to even have a semblance of a chance to get this moving.  It sucks that this happened and I'm sorry to hear about it, but this was a risk you took, not Poloniex.

Any chance if you could see about adding an API for querying our coins that have been earned through mining?  Might make calculating potential profits easier if we could query the actual coins we've mined.

Right now it is hard to know which algorithms are actually earning the best results for us over time without just trusting the multi-algo and the ever shifting price changes.

Like I notice Doubloons under hmq1725 are currently showing a 0 value unless it is just extremely small.

You'd likely need to check with novaexchange if they pay out for staking while in their wallet.  I would guess not.
