161  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC power consumption estimates on: September 30, 2012, 11:39:08 PM
Cablepair stated the bASIC would consume less power than the mod miner quad (40 watts), but this was back when it was a 27Gh/s unit.  It is safe to assume the 54GH/s unit would required twice the power and consume less than 80 watts.

80/54 = 1.48 J/Gh

Hi Dust,

I think is is fair to say that it is not clear what Tom is saying there. I would rather wait for him to announce the info and then we can add it to the list.

Best,
gigavps

Tom said exactly in the above comment "[the 27Gh/s device] uses less electricity than the ModMiner Quad", so it is pretty clear to me that it means less than 40Watt. Hence 675 Mhash/Joule, or 1.48 J/Ghash.

Now if you wanted to be pointy, one could say that Tom did not promise the 54Gh/s device would have the same efficiency as the 27Gh/s one...

Considering gigavps has a vendetta against Tom and btcfpga (and obvious bias towards BFL since that what he invested in) expected him to he hesitant in reporting numbers that are comparable to BFL.

If anyone was as far along with their design as they are saying, they wouldn't be able to change it.

Exactly, they would most likely have to start from scratch and redo the development of the chip.  Such an increase is extremely fishy since they advertise that they will be able to ship next month.

Watch as the largest scam in bitcoin 2012 unfolds.

All ASICs are using multichip architecture in their PCB so you would need to redo the PCB layout, but the actual chip architecture/design.
163  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Can someone explain how the ASIC vendors can supply double spec hardware ? on: September 30, 2012, 06:00:29 PM
Ah ok on the 28th September.

I was hoping he had made that quote before 'Avalon' spec's were announced.

Nope. Though I am not sure how much the AValon specs influenced these decisions since there is only an initial run of 300 and the 2nd mass run will be $2k

Tom mentioned plans to have 2 designs (2nd one with double the amount of chips).

Do you have a link to that quote? Just that it wasn't on his website last week.

Something like bitpay.com can help you set up a front end.

In regards to age verification...thats really impossible since bitcoin is inherently anonymous there is nothing linking an address to an actual person (though there are ways to link addresses to each other).

Best of luck!

Tom mentioned plans to have 2 designs (2nd one with double the amount of chips). Thats why there are now 2 bASICs once with 27gh/s and another with 54gh/s. These are minimum values and based on conservative theoretical estimates not actual prototypes so there is still a possibility that these values could go up.

BFL may be on actual prototype specs (but they haven't confirmed this) merely said that the "plan all along was to update the firmware to allow for increased hashrate" should a price war or competition get intense.
167  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC power consumption estimates on: September 30, 2012, 04:36:10 PM
yay competition Cheesy, we should including pricing estimates as well though so we can have the full picture.
168  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does anyone else smell BS?? on: September 30, 2012, 04:33:24 PM
In regards to the bASIC the plan was to have 2 PCB boards 27gH/s and 54gH/s for $1k/$2k respectively. However he found that price wise he could offer the $2k board at $1k after getting further along in the development (though I am sure this would not have happened if it were not for the competition that avalon brought).

Cablepair said in another thread he already had taped out and cut wafers, if all were waiting on is the pcbs we should have these extremely quickly. Probably even before bfl.

In this very thread he expected to have prototypes to the software developers in Oct so I anticipate a Nov/Dec launch. Hoping for even earlier though!

That's two extra Th's for Teraminers.

I do wonder though, are any of BFL's competition going to be able to meet or beat their power specs? 1Gh/watt is huge.

They should not be to far off. BFL has their trade up options that they seem to promise for 2nd nebula ASICs
bASIC as the 1year warranty plus works with open source software options and bit streams.
Avalon has 1 year and may diliver without the need for an external device to start mining.

I doubt there will be much of a trade up value for any ASIC device considering how specialized they are.

Wait so.. conservative estimate... then planned they to update firmware for faster speeds to be competitive? Doesn't this seem a little bit odd (or even underhanded) to anyone else?

lol looks like the bASIC is worrying BFL?
173  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Whose ASIC will start hashing first? on: September 30, 2012, 03:23:35 AM
Im pretty sure if BFL had a product to show they would show it to quench the multitude of people calling bs on their release date.

Definitely. BFL is in it for the long con, scamming us of millions of USD and BTCs by establishing a legitimate business and pretending to sell mining hardware. [/sarcasm]

Really squid? Really? I suppose obvious troll is obvious...  Roll Eyes

I wasn't saying BFL was a con. I am just saying that their release date is too optimistic and predict a more reasonable Q1 2013 release. Don't get your panties in a bunch damn man.

I understand the "wild oats" phase of youth. There are so many opportunities in life. Kids used to hitchhike around the world, now they couchsurf. If you're in a big city and want to live free for awhile, that's great, but how dare you at such a young age call yourself homeless. There are truly desperate people that suffer on the streets and deserve a lot more pity than you. I'm not saying you should conform or any other bullshit, it's just that you are not really homeless until you don't have a choice.

I don't think anyone really takes this thread seriously. Feels more like a troll thread and is actually quite entertaining.

I think all three are excellent pools, thought I prefer bitminter myself.

Separate money into multiple offline backup wallets. Everything in 1 pot is silly =/

Sorry about your loss.
