161  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ☆☆☆ Opportunity to Invest in Avalon ASIC chips ☆☆☆ on: April 23, 2013, 06:50:51 AM
4000+ BTC (net 15% management costs) for <3000 GH/s with a four month waiting period.

Vs.

80 BTC for >70 GH/s for batch 4.

Ummm...

3500 + 15% is roughly 4000 BTC

Assuming Avalon Batch 4 is 40BTC, why not just buy 100 Batch 4 units which should hash at 5000GH/s.  No need to cut your fingers or do any work other than setting them up.

Whoops I gave away my plan  Grin

The management fee will be taken from the mining income and not from the setup costs. So funds needed is ~3500 BTC
162  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ☆☆☆ Opportunity to Invest in Avalon ASIC chips ☆☆☆ on: April 23, 2013, 06:33:43 AM
have you ordered the chips or are you waiting for people to fund this project?
Regards

We are waiting for investors to fund this project and as soon as we hit 780 BTC we will order 10k of Avalon ASIC chips.
163  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ☆☆☆ Opportunity to Invest in Avalon ASIC chips ☆☆☆ on: April 23, 2013, 05:59:30 AM
This looks interesting? Any management fee discount for larger investors, let say >50 BTC

We ran through various numbers before arriving at the 15% management fee which is quite reasonable. We could consider a discount structure at a later stage. This will need some deliberation on our side.

Interested, but MORE interested in hearing about your dev team. "If it was easy, everyone would do it."

Agree that it ain't easy. Members of our team are experienced in software development and electronics. We also have a senior member with Project Management experience.

We expect challenges along the way and are confident that we will be able to tackle them as they come along.

Q: What are the operating costs and management fees? guesstimate?

Operating costs are to be determined once the setup is complete. Management fee will be 15%. I have updated the OP accordingly.

169  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Ozcoin: BTC Site OFFLINE - *** If you are mining BTC you are donating. on: April 21, 2013, 04:54:26 AM
As some are aware after some financial problems and a hacking incident ozcoin's BTC service is apparently not in service.  According to the latest update on the their IRC channel all continued BTC mining is being taken as donations.

I thought some people might appreciate this being made more visible.

(And perhaps— take the moment to remind people that Solo mining and P2Pool don't carry systemic risks of central pool operators getting hacked; and that pools that do coinbase payments generally have less theft exposure then other kinds of centralized pools)

Just to explain a bit more for new miners, solomining has another completely different risk - much greater variance - which may also see you not get paid if you have a low hashrate and the network continues it's current rate of expansion. p2Pool may not be an option for some miners - I know with my network there's no way I'd have a low enough latency.

Coinbase payments though, that does seem like a good idea regardless of the 100 block wait time - are there any pools besides proportional (Slush) and PPS var (Eligius) that do this?

IIRC, Slush does not do coinbase payments.

Also pools with coinbase payments are having some problems with Avalon.
170  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: April 17, 2013, 04:17:54 PM
Has anyone make an account on another pool?

Just tried 50BTC... ran for about a hour, then connection problems, too  Grin

I think its being DDOSed too.

Many pools are getting DDOSed at the same time. Some is trying real hard to drop the bitcoin difficulty.

I will be willing to bet that the DDOS attack(s) are for one of the following reasons:

. Manipulate BTC price
. Manipulate Difficulty
. Destabilize BTC and crypto-currency in general.

Slush, we are all here for you man!

Is there anything I (we) can do, if so let us know.  Would server resources help you in any way? Or financial?

Please PM me if there is anything I can do to assist.

strange.... At the same time slush's pool started getting DDOSed again My pool and some other pools are getting DDOSed again.

It seems that this DDOS on many pools are done by the same botnet operator that is attacking slush.

Could this be an all out attack? Is it wise to start solo mining for a while to spread the targets?

The attack on BTCOxygen seems to be going away again.
Maybe slush's pool will also start working again.

auto payout (DGM) seems not working...
Payouts Deleyed
The recent run of bad luck combined with now ~80% of miners on PPS has depleted the storage wallet
I need to get some coins out of cold storage and onto the server, for now as blocks confirm I will top up wallet and aim to have things back to normal within 24 hours
Apologies for the inconvenience

Take a look at this thread. Interesting concept to avoid going bankrupt.

176  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Investor Funded PPS Pool - Concept. on: April 17, 2013, 08:55:15 AM
It's an interesting idea... but frankly... why bother.

Why not just use something along the lines of Eligius payout schema so the pool can never go broke. . .

Most miners like steady income.

Yeah a payment system like eligius will keep the pool on the safe side but miners income is never steady.

Take a look at Eligius CPPSRB Variance on their home page.
They have been paying miners 93% PPS for a long time.
Miners who are mining on eligius now is mining on a 7% fee PPS pool.

177  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Try Now >>>] BTCOxygen.com - PPS | 2% fee | Stratum | Auto-Payout on: April 17, 2013, 08:50:17 AM
And pools dead for me again.

It was good for almost a week before this.

And I still can't login.

Guess I'm done.

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Currently the pool is under DDOS. Also I see 2-3 other pools getting DDOSed too. Looks like someone is trying to manipulate the next difficulty increase.

I am currently working on it. Will notify here when things are back up again.
