161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxt to NEX Buy In - Exchange 1 Nxt for 50 NEX (MODERATED) on: February 22, 2014, 06:19:55 PM
There will be an initial distribution (as discussed in this thread and other threads).  After that (yet to be revealed) distribution mechanism will be made available for around a year.  Then the distribution drops to a low inflation rate.  That is the current plan.

See, it's this "yet to be revealed" part I get hung up on.  Some very very smart people thought about it for a long time and came up with nothing.  I remain skeptical until more detail comes out on this point.

I just made a paper wallet today (thanks for an awesome site btw!) and I noticed that the directions still tell users to sweep their funds into Mt. Gox.

"Spend your bitcoins by going to blockchain.info or mtgox.com and sweep the full balance of your private key into your account at their website. "

Perhaps that should be changed in light of the huge ball of suck that Gox has been lately?

Successful?
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [OFFER] Nxt to NEX - Exchange one Nxt to 50 NEX coins - LIMITED! on: February 19, 2014, 04:23:49 PM
I think you guys investing in this need to be very careful.  Whoever is behind this is glibly "announcing" future developments which are extraordinarily difficult to actually deliver.  For instance, he claims that post IPO coin distribution will follow some "fair" mechanism that does not require proof of work.  The Etherium guys wracked their brains trying to find a way to distribute proof of stake coins without proof of work and came up blank.  So I'd be very interested in hearing this scheme.

The fact that he's focused entirely on funding without a shred of actual code should be a warning.  Go back to the NXT announcement thread and you'll see that BCnext had at test interface running.  There was at least some work done showing that they guy could actually develop.  This "Carlos Perez" claims to be a developer and all he has to show for it is a blog with entries that stop at 2011.

Finally, why did he have to switch his fundraising to a self-moderated thread?  If he's legit he should be convincing his detractors, not silencing them.

I know you want to get in on an investment like the initial NXT offering, and this guy does too. In fact it's what he's taking advantage of.  Remember that very little prevents him from running off with the initial investment.  Risk only what you can lose...and lose EASILY.

Note:  NEX is likely not a 100% proof of stake coin due to its very unfair distribution dynamics.  Distribution will happen with a mechanism other than proof of work, but it will happen over a period similar to proof of work schemes.  Think a year of distribution followed by a low inflation rate.  The initial distribution will however be proof of stake,  so there is an extreme advantage to be in the initial distribution.

I'd be interested in more detail on this distribution model.  The guys at Etherium pondered the same issues and ended up with an IPO / PoW setup.  What specifically is your plan to distribute coins without PoW?  This is not a detail, it's a huge question that should be answered in full before funding occurs.

All those that gave 1BTC received somewhere near 47M NXT, which today is worth approximately 3.29M USD.  This could be, perhaps, the best return on investment the world has ever seen

this is pertinent information

Right, and they could have lost their funds completely to a scammer.  It's called reward, and it's the only reason people risk their capital.
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I invest right now in NXT?? on: February 15, 2014, 03:59:01 PM
Just needed to quote something like this, for history.
I would never Invest in something like NXT, to cut it short it is worser than Ripple.

This from a guy selling pwnycoin  Cheesy

For a "scamcoin", there's a hell of a lot of innovation and development going on in the NXT community.  It may or may not be around in ten years, but if it is, shares will be enormously valuable.

But you go ahead and mine pwnycoin...wave of the future, I tell ya!  Roll Eyes

I just bought in at .00009 after asking myself the same question.

174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT ?? on: February 15, 2014, 05:06:18 AM
Possibly.  Several competitors working on second layer protocol stuff.  I'm investing in all of them.  nxt seems to have a hell of a following and there are a lot of things coming online in the next week.

When?  In a week, a month, a year, a decade....?

If you're investing without a target, you're doing it wrong.

Why you people are dealing in this shitcoin is a mystery to me...   Shocked Roll Eyes Kiss
15    MaxCoin   $ 6,918,723   $ 3.08   2,249,664 MAX   $ 6,590,215   +78.68 %

Exactly.  You can't get your wallet to synch but you're willing to go toe-to-toe against well funded, experienced currency traders running complex analysis software, thinking you'll buy and sell at the right time?

Good luck with that, friend.  And I do mean that...I hate to see people new to cryptocurrencies end up as bagholders.  Cryptsy is a shark tank dead in the middle of the wild wild west.  You can (and probably will) lose your ass.  Just a friendly warning Smiley

If a DOGE - US$ trading exchange opens up then BTC would die.

Haha that's a good one mate  Cheesy
