Yeah that's just bat shit crazy.
Maybe you should just call up the guy at the irs and agree with him the whole exercise is actually futile. Waste of both your and his time.

Then again maybe he doesn't care.

Yep  When all is said and done  it will  be 200 to 300 pages each year  for under 5000 profit each year.

When I finish 2018  I will give some totals.

There were other ways  to have done my gpu/gear sales    but I was so small I did a manual system which will now cost me a lot of effort to correct.

It also means I can't sell  much the rest of the year. And that I will do zip in sales for 2020.

By 2021 I will have an idea if it will be over and done  or a bigger mess.

My hope is they see a 200-300 page return  with under 100,000 in coin/cash moving around and a profit under 5,000 for 2018  and just say fuck it.

BTW  coinbase refuses to send me a 1099  basically  they are wrong.  I have more then 200 transactions and 20,000 in coin movement.

But I figure  they can not generate a report via auto software and would need to do what I am doing to make a correct 1099  and for tiny account they are like fuck it.

I have been doing lots of tax research on this and can tell you if you are USA based and move your coins around multiple exchanges and accounts you may end up with an insane amount of paperwork for very little profit.

I don't know how much  any exchange  splits a sale or buy of btc other then gdax/coinbase.pro  which is where I started the new return.
I don't know if other software works better then bitcoin.tax

But  I have this knowledge a 1 btc sale or purchase in 2018 on gdax  could be 1000 x 0.0001 = 1 btc so it is possible  that if you need to report to IRS  5 sales of 1 btc each  you could be pushing  into 1000's of entries  to show only 5 sales in 1 year.

I will be making reports for May to Dec 2018  today. I am curious to see exactly how bad the spliting is.

16163  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Canaan Avalon 1066 on: August 18, 2019, 12:30:34 AM
I saw an email where Steve said he had plans to announce a new miner in October. Is that what this is? Makes sense for them to have a more dense unit as well, but I was excited to see something entirely new again. Spoiled by all the launches this year i guess.

I need one or more for testing.

Their a1041 is pretty nice for home mining.

my hope is it is a two speed  and the low speed is like 31/37 for the a1041   that would be 42/50 for the a1066  and it would be quiet for the home. miner on the low speed.

I sent an email  mentioning this thread. Maybe Steve will post some good info here for us.
16164  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Antminer S17 on: August 17, 2019, 06:25:29 PM
How open is open?  4000 is break even if you never mined it if you mined it break even is a bit under 4000  you asked 5000.

I have clients but I know they want deals and steals.

I can order one from the website for   2950 and wait til dec.

Or I can hope bitmain lowers price to 3333 for an instant ship.

above is my april 27  2018  btc coins sales from coinbase

Above  is just part of why  it will be too hard for me to continue my current business.

Notice 18 lines all with same time stamp  but multiple  prices.  This was a sale of gpus for btc.

I sold gpus got coins put them in coinbase.
moved them to gdax to sell them for cash
 moved cash back to  coinbase.
and sent  cash to  bank account.

old method was set correct cost of the gpus.  say 1500   report sales  say 1866 = 366 gross profit  report profit to irs.

irs wants every coin movement to show.

ie 1) coins sent from buy to me in coinbase  report  say .2 btc worth say 1866
    2)coins shifted to gdax
    3) actual sale of the coin  note gdax can sell as little as 0.001 so  my .2000  was split into 17 sales see above  it could have been 200 sales
3-20) lines of info for that deal.
4)next show cash went to coinbase
    5)show cash went to bank

then  show cost of gpus  say 1500  sold for  1866 profit of  366 report to irs.

I have many sales  of .1 btc that are 15 or 20 lines of info all must be reported.

I did 3 sales in April  instead of 3 lines to show income  I will need 37 lines.

So I am being forced on 1  sale  of .2 btc to show  17 trades made by gdax some as low as 1.57 usd

while on my end I listed .2 btc to sell at market value.    in both cases i made 366 profit

my method  was fast easy and accurate   irs method is fuck you phil . you are an honest moron and you are now going out of business due to our i reporting requirements.

I could have avoided this if I never cash coins but  i  coin cashed to buy new gear and pay expenses.

I am particularly annoyed that the single sale of .2 btc done in 1 shot in 1 second made 17 entries
16166  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Gear Pricing just becomes more irrational then ever on: August 16, 2019, 01:02:36 PM
well if btc goes up my  900th will be okay. It will earn a lot.

buying  gear now is most certainly stupid for me to do.

The bull is too occupied  to do a full  bull run as
The bull is busy getting laid as the asic companies are fucking everyone over.

The asic companies are trying to squeeze every last drop out of that bull  far before it is ready to pop.

But as I said all spec on my part.
16167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My Situation: Mining LTC now and After Halving. Looking like meh! Take Poll! on: August 16, 2019, 04:58:08 AM
Yes not easy to find under 8c kWh in europe either. Scandinavia we running 6.5c/kWh (euro and summertime) and no VAT need to pay from orders that comes outside EU when you make order as company but if you dont have company then you need to pay VAT of course.. Anyway hard times indeed for many of us miners... North Russia have some cheap places, but Russia is always big questionmark.

Well, IMHO, the ASIC manufacturers for some reason decided to (even before when crypto was flat and not going down 10% like this week) think it was OK to

do the following:

1) Up, the price by 25% or more on any ASIC'S of any flavor crypto. All the major guys did this, more or less at the same time.

2) Make their previously 2-month pre-orders stretch into 4 months or more. Most common now is Dec 2019 but a lot state it as an ETA and put down Jan 2020.

So, the 'market' has to be coming from someplace. Even if it is in full FOMO mode, the manufacturer's would not be doing this, at this time of crypto prices,

especially, unless they had a big market for their products and pre-orders.

I just don't get it. Usually, this kind of action is based on a pump in crypto prices in a big way, in that this does not seem the case, I can only guess that it

is due to high electric costs in the USA and elsewhere (Summer rates). 10c kWh doesn't cut it anymore at these electric prices and crypto prices.

So I can only assume the FOMO is coming from countries with really cheap electric and no tariff issues piling on at this point in time and the ASIC manufacturer's

are trying to catch up and can't. Thus the price rise on equipment and the pushing out of pre-order delivery.

Anyway, any better data feel free to drop a line on this thread, especially if you are from a country that does have cheap electric and/or no VAT or TARIFF or

whatever. Also, to see if my view is correct from someplace in East Asia as an example with hosting! (heh...every scammer now is gonna plug me on Bitcointalk)

I suppose if the BTC price and Altcoin prices now go up by 50% or some such, I will have my answer (the usual a lot of people are smarter than me and foresaw this)

seems like a hell of a risky action from the manufacturer's end, UNLESS, they have a hell of a lot of demand yet. IMHO.

Chump or Champ we will be the first to know!

Brad

Many people have said it will all end up being commercial Mining large scale.

So 3 to 5 cent miner with the l3+

Does what.  We have 11 gh at Clifton it makes .19 to .20 ltc a day

At 75 bucks an ltc that is 15 dollars.

We use 17000 watts or 17 x 24 = 408 kwatts a day to earn 15 dollars.

At 3 cent power that is 12.24
At 4 cent power that is 16.32 or loser
At 5 cent power that is 20.40 of loser

So we should see a big tank in diff coming right up on ltc.
16168  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Gear Pricing just becomes more irrational then ever on: August 16, 2019, 04:39:56 AM
Jumping in a little late been busy...

This post is why I did the thread.  In dec 2017. The s9 made 45 usd a day in coin.  You could sell one for three thousand dollars.  And people would be happy you sold it for that price.

Today the s17 pro makes 14 A day you would be loved by all if you sold one for the same 3000.

The s9 pulls 1350 watts the s17 pulls 2225 watts.

Based on 2017 dec numbers the s9 sold for

the s17 should be under 1750 shipped  today. Last I looked it was over 4100 shipped today.

The exposure to buy 10 s17 and waiting until dec makes zero sense.

I would argue what happens if coins moon to 30 k. Will we see s17 for 8000?
16169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin market dominance rising fast? on: August 16, 2019, 02:23:16 AM
The reason why bitcoin dominance is rising fast is simple.
1) The news of Pompliano investing 50% of his wealth into bitcoin.
2) The altcoin market is highly manipulated and bitcoin is the most used and safe haven cryptocurrency.
3) The effect of the upcoming bitcoin halving woos a lot of new investors and experienced investors.

Close..

the major alt coins with the exception of Xmr all betrayed their promise of Asic resistant al-gore-rythms.

So when asic builders attacked with asics  gpu miners were hurt big time.
16170  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Gear Pricing just becomes more irrational then ever on: August 16, 2019, 02:16:33 AM
Until bitcoin is treated more like money instead of an asset you'll see the volatility market wise. Then it will likely be the main off ramp to exit inflationary fiats for a number of years, so the appreciation of value is very likely.

As a business we want to retain the scarcity of bitcoin and so only exchange it as necessary regardless of market finding that gain/loss is negligible long term. Though we operate extremely lean so overhead is much less an issue like for it is for sidehack and other business models. Essentially we recommend bitcoin every time an incentivize it but are firm on allowing users to decide for the best experience possible.

true  it does move around.  PM sent.
16171  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: August 15, 2019, 11:59:18 PM
Has anybody tested the M20-45 with 8NM Samsung chips? I am very interested in this gear.

Seams is the best choice at the moment. But price is very high and delivery is in December. Maybe I become 0.5 BTC in December for 2000 USD. I have this time the same feeling as in November 2017. Bitmain sells the s9 for high price with delivery in late February.

Well if buying the m20 for 1890 usd in dec turns out to be bad

Buying the s17 pro for 2875 usd in dec would be worse.

yeah but

the amd ryzen 9 3900x is 500 bucks  doing 12000 for randomx
the amd eypc 7742 is 7200 bucks doing 36000 for randomx

I could ge 4 3900x for 2000 and  have 48000   vs 1 eypc for 7200 bucks doing 36000

I just did my large page setting for the amd ryzen 9 3900x and I went from  1090 to 1175  stock clocks  this is a good pc for 500 bucks

you can get a good mobo for well under 175

145 mobo                    asrock x570
  69 nvme ssd              500gb ssd

you could build 6 of these   say 6000-6300

the one eypc cpu alone is over  7200  https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16819113581

I wanted two of these.

My partners want s17's, m20, m20s  since I have power deals  with them I have to respect them as they control the power.

Both the warehouse guy and buysolar have run businesses for years and both have kids to take care of.

I am retired I get a check and have no debt. I also don't have real control of any of my cheap power deals.

Power deal 1 Clifton  is 50 50 coin split  I could put 10 more s17's in there I have 900th for btc  and 11gh for ltc.
50% to warehouse  then buysolar and I spilt rest.
Power deal 2 Washington state  3 s9's cost me 145 total a month
Power deal 3 my friends office  is 50 50 coin split 1 circuit must be quiet I run 3 pc's there and earn 8 bucks a day to spilt

So the place in washington is maxxed out for me
my friends office is maxxed out.

The place in Clifton  has 40kwatts    left to fill and  they may add 200 more kwatts.   this means  110 online + 40 + 150 = 300kwatts maybe

But both guys want deals on gear.
To me I would not mind 2 from here.
Partners can be good.  We expanded from 42th to 900th in 1 year in Clifton.
But we are kind of stuck right now as to what to do from now on.

I may end up going off line most everywhere Maybe mine in the washingtion state  spot and at my friends office.

That 3900x is a beauty (on paper anyway).  I have a feeling it's going to be rather popular once Monero finishes their fork to RandomX.

With  no tweaking or turning it does  1090-1125 for xmr    running at 67%

this is it with 2 1660ti

https://old.nicehash.com/miner/1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtje

I have been busy have not tested it much the last day.

But  It is a  better then the threadripper 1920x

It uses 2.4 kwatts a day to earn 45 cents.

while that seems poor it is turning a profit of 21cents  I think  the new fork will help that alot.

I think I need to do this:

Buy a pound of weed for $1500, flip it for $4000-5000, rinse and repeat.
Or if you want to make some real money, buy clones for 5$, each one of them will give you around a qp depending on the strain, $5 turns into $1500, you just need to wait, they say money does not grow on tree`s but they lied.

psst it is legal here where I live ^_^, just sell one ounce at a time and don`t say your selling it you are "sharing" it.
https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cj-jp/cannabis/ "share up to 30 grams"

Now buy a full bitcoin.

I want to Thank you for  the  smile you put on my face.

You have to have cheap electricity, I have 4 cents electricity and have never had a one of my 100 GPUs be unprofitable and some are 3 years old.

4 cent power has always been a winner for mining.

Almost all people over 10 cent power will eventually not be mining much.

The tank was right on time. Just got paid the biggest BTC invoice in months at $11k8 so of course it was going to drop 15%. Don't know about you guys but a drop below $8k would make my business harder.

It would not be good for gear builders and or sellers.  It would not be good for those that have a dozen units of gear due in Dec.

You can't tell until you do it. Depends on wiring of fan to molex and psu design

My new cellphone account for bitcointalk is Philipma1957cellphone

.6 x 12 = 7.2 watts say 8. 8 x 6 is 48 watts.

Those  molex   If wired correctly have 1 ground and 1

12 volt  wire.  If it is an 18 gauge wire it can provide about 75 watts x .8 = 60 watts.

So you should be able to use 1 molex. Cable

I would put three on two separate cables.

On my cell will add new name when I get to my pc. I did a one hashboard build. There is a thread on it. It is pretty nice. I would love to see side hack look at my one board design and improve it. He has posted on it . Cell phone sucks to link a thread. But someone may do it. I would prefer a modded version of my one board idea. In fact I just thought of one. I will send the info to side hack as I just figured  a better design as I typed this.

Confirming this is my new cell phone account.

This is the link to my  s-9 build

I get some parts in  and will show a new mod  I really think  sidehack  could run with it.  Polish it up and sell a 1 board with a built in psu.

Well my Father-in-law would love to say we shall see what we shall  see. My Clifton  farm is okay for now.

This is me  I was at a sweet sixteen party just got home.

Niceeeee  coins tanking.

I just grabbed some ltc at 74 bucks.

best thing that can happen is a hard tank  maybe 7777 for btc  and 66.66 for ltc

fingers crossed we really drop.  and that big ass 300 megawatt farm  just  getting built  gets cut hard.

Sooo glad I did not fold and buy  dec gear.

Of course  by the morining  btc could be 11111 and ltc could be 102  and I look like a fool.
