1621  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: missing funds on: August 04, 2019, 11:01:07 AM
phrase-the key was recorded in Notepad, on paper! Where's my money? You stole $ 600 from me and you're trying to make me look guilty!

There are only two possibilities. Either you computer was infected with a malware (in this case download Malwarebytes and scan your PC) or you accidentally downloaded a fake version of Electrum. The latest one is 3.3.8. If you have any number higher than that then you have downloaded one of fake versions which were common at the time. How could we have stolen your money if we didn't know you?
1622  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Criticisms of the Lightning Network on: August 04, 2019, 10:19:49 AM
how will you determine whether the channel is legit

You can't create a fake channel because the Lightning Network is strictly tied to the blockchain. How would you determine if the coins you received were not double-spent? You would run your own node. I would do exactly the same on the Lightning Network in order to watch over all of my channels. Both of these nodes have to follow some standards and rules which in LN's case are written down in the specifications. You have to trust any software unless you code it yourself.
1623  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Criticisms of the Lightning Network on: August 04, 2019, 09:14:35 AM
Since the transactions are made outside the blockchain you literally have to trust a centralized authority who started that network, in short LN is all about centralization  Wink.

Who are you referring to as the central authority who started the network? There's none. The Lightning Network Specifications have not been created by a single person or company. There are many different implementations (LND, Eclair, c-lightning and more) which are open-source. Anyone is able to audit the code and set up their own Lightning Network node. Payments don't go through a central server. You can open a channel directly to a merchant so that you don't have to pay any fees for multiple transactions (routing fees are negligible anyway).
1624  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: missing funds on: August 04, 2019, 07:33:09 AM
How could I withdraw funds from my wallet without being the developer of this wallet? I believe that the funds were stolen by the developer! Why aren't you responsible for the missing money?

No, developers could not have stolen your funds. Electrum is open-source and you should have been safe as long as you downloaded it from the official website. What did you do with your seed phrase (12 words)? Did you save it on a different computer? Was it exposed to a third party?

I am not familiar with radikal.ru site where you added your image so I am not going to click on it. I suggest https://imgur.com/ which is widely used on this site.

1625  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Help needed to spend from paper wallet on: August 04, 2019, 07:29:20 AM
Am I able to choose a miner’s fee for the return?

The change is included in the same transaction as the coins you are trying to send. You can't divide them in separate transactions and pay different fees. By the way, that would be more expensive if it was possible. It's better to send a transaction with multiple inputs and outputs rather than a few single payments.
1626  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Help needed to spend from paper wallet on: August 04, 2019, 07:04:29 AM
Question: Why do we need to worry about change? Shouldn’t it be enough to send the exact amounts plus fees? That’s what I do with all my transactions at least.

That's not how Bitcoin transactions work. Every time you receive a payment, a new unspent output is created. If you don't want to have any change then you have to spend that whole output (it will be now considered as input in your transaction). The more inputs and outputs you have in your transaction, the higher the fee you will pay. You can find more detailed explanation here. For example, Ethereum does not have inputs/outputs, so there is no change.

Try to think of them as bills. You can't simply tear a 10 dollar bill in half.
1627  Local / Polski / Re: Ogólne rozmowy na temat kampanii sygnatur on: August 03, 2019, 09:57:40 PM

1628  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I am guessing my money is gone on: August 03, 2019, 09:29:13 PM
So...it took me 16 hours to get this far.  Now I have to figure out how to sell it for cash.

It depends on what country you currently live in. You can look for a Bitcoin ATM in your local area here, trade with someone face-2-face (localbitcoins) or use an online exchange, for example, Coinbase. If you don't need to cash out urgently then try the first two options. Note that some online services might force you to go through KYC which sometimes is a pain.
1629  Other / Meta / Re: [RELEASED] @mention notification bot - now with Telegram on: August 03, 2019, 08:37:51 PM
Could you make that the bot does not send messages from users that I ignore.

It would be great if we were also able to block receiving notifications from specific threads or sections. Being constantly mentioned in merit related threads disturbs me. Blacklisting them manually just like LoyceV described would be convenient. Thanks for your work!
1630  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I bought a used Trezor Model T hardware wallet.... on: August 03, 2019, 07:22:52 PM
Just curious but do ppl here have both trezor and nano ledger s?  Which is preferable?

I used to have a Legder Nano S, but I sold it due to problems with the old Chrome app. I got a free Trezor One for helping with their wallet translation and I pre-ordered Trezor T which I have had for about 1,5 year. Trezor One is a good choice if you don't use many altcoins. Trezor T is a great device, but I am considering getting a Nano X because it is more portable. Trezor is vulnerable to this.
1631  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: missing funds on: August 03, 2019, 07:30:45 AM
Today I check and there are no funds! Someone brought them all out completely! Who's gonna answer for that now?

What version of Electrum do you have? Did you get any notification regarding a mandatory update 2 months ago? How did you store your seed? You have to answer these questions before we can get a track of what might have happened.
1632  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Help needed to spend from paper wallet on: August 02, 2019, 07:14:31 PM
As per the example transaction the fees paid is way too much 0.001 BTC. Do i need to pay high transaction fees?

No, you don't have to pay that much. You can change the fee manually in the Send tab. I have already explained it in this post. Setting the fee to 1 sat/byte should get your transaction confirmed within 24 hours. You will pay way less than 0.001 BTC.
1633  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: When will they fix Ledger Nano S firmware? on: August 02, 2019, 06:15:14 PM
No, I did not hear about what happened with Ledger Blue.  Can you explain?

Ledger Blue has a built-in Bluetooth which was supposed to be used by some apps. Yet, users are not even able to pair the mobile Ledger Live app with it; they have to use a USB cable. As far as I remember, Ledger employees mentioned that it might also allow users to interact with their wallet without having to use a computer. Right now, there is nothing you can do with that large screen. Oh, and it doesn't support as many coins as Nano X and Nano S do.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Ledger. They released a product which turned out to be a failure, charged a premium price and didn't release many software updates for it (at least they tried to do something).
1634  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: When will they fix Ledger Nano S firmware? on: August 02, 2019, 03:57:57 PM
On the other hand, if Ledger promised an improvement or upgrade for the Nano S (which I recently bought as my first hardware wallet), they ought to follow through with it.

I guess you haven't heard of what they did to Ledger Blue. Expensive piece of tech which in the end turned out to be a garbage.

What are the newer alternatives for hardware wallets?  Certainly there are plenty of new companies with hardware wallets.

Don't expect these alternatives to be good. Trezor and Ledger are the most widely supported hardware wallets by third parties out there. Ledger supports many altcoins while Trezor has a different security model and doesn't have any app limit since it doesn't need any apps. Have you seen ColdCard?

1635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Full Node Can anyone help set up? on: August 02, 2019, 03:38:27 PM
Thanks, blitz looks good, maybe I should wait for the Pi4 version to come out.

The fourth Pi has been released some time ago, so you should be able to buy it. The 4 GB RAM version seems to be sold out everywhere, but you should be able to get the 2 GB one easily. Here you can check for your local, official resellers.
1636  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Criticisms of the Lightning Network on: August 02, 2019, 02:56:54 PM
yup... That's right... A grand total of 0 msatoshi in fees made during the months i've been running the node  Grin

That's interesting. Xian01 had been posting his Lightning Network node stats in the Lightning Network Discussion thread before it was closed and he actually managed to earn a few satoshis. If I recall correctly, he was using LND with its built-in autopilot. Here's one of his posts.

Has it experienced any attacks of some kind? That should worry the users, because we simply don't know.

The Lightning Network experienced a DDoS attack in March last year. 20% of all nodes were down at that time due to the attack.
1637  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Help needed to spend from paper wallet on: August 01, 2019, 08:50:03 PM
You can use 20 sats/byte (as you are sending small amounts) and then use via accelerator to get the transaction confirmed soon.

Instead of recommending a fixed fee, you should explain him how to choose a proper one. @timybonk before sending a transaction in Electrum as others have explained, take a look at this website. Look at the sat/byte parameter. The lower it is, the lower the fee you will pay. If you want to save as much money as possible then you can send a transaction with a 1 sat/byte fee. It should be confirmed within 24 hours.
1638  Local / Tablica ogłoszeń / Sprzedam nowego Ledgera Nano X on: August 01, 2019, 07:55:50 PM

1639  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Setting up ledger with electrum on: August 01, 2019, 06:57:39 PM
I'm guessing this has something to do with the script and derivation path that I chose, but I don't know which ones I should choose to make it work.

You're right! What did your addresses look like? Legacy addresses start from 1, p2sh-segwit from 3 and native segwit ones from bc1. Select the one that corresponds to what you had before. Support for native SegWit addresses has been added in the latest Ledger Live update so that's why you didn't have a chance to use them.
1640  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: when sending payment electrumbay msg comes on: August 01, 2019, 06:08:35 PM
i know electrumbay is a cheat but how i make payment now

Download the latest version of Electrum from the official website. Alternatively, you can try switching to a different server but the update will get rid of such fake messages. Congratulations for not falling for this scam.
