How the Bitcoin 1% manipulate the currency, deceive its user community, and make its future uncertain
From: http://blog.p2pfoundation.net/how-the-bitcoin-1-manipulate-the-currency-deceive-its-user-community-and-make-its-future-uncertain/2013/06/30
Excerpted from Stanislav Datskovskiy:

” One of the world’s greatest cryptographers, Adi Shamir, published the following analysis:

- “We discovered that almost all these large transactions were the descendants of a single large transaction involving 90,000 Bitcoins which took place on November 8th 2010, and that the subgraph of these transactions contains many strange looking chains and fork-merge structures, in which a large balance is either transferred within a few hours through hundreds of temporary intermediate accounts, or split into many small amounts which are sent to different accounts only in order to be recombined shortly afterwards into essentially the same amount in a new account.” (source: Dorit Ron and Adi Shamir, Quantitative Analysis of the Full Bitcoin Transaction Graph.”

Most bitcoins are, in fact, in the hands of a very few people. Are you surprised? I’m not.

We also learn that, of the approximately 9 million bitcoins which currently exist, less than 2 million actually circulate – that is, change hands with any appreciable frequency:

- “It is remarkable that 97% of all owners had fewer than 10 transactions each, while 75 owners use the network very often and are affiliated with at least 5,000 transactions.”

And it would appear that most of the non-circulating coins are in the hands of a very small number of people – who, one may reasonably suspect, were involved from with building and propagandising Bitcoin from its very beginning. So, who are the lords of Bitcoin?

The most damning fact revealed in the paper is not the extreme top-heaviness of the Bitcoin ownership pyramid, but rather the elaborate lengths to which the hoarders went in order to conceal their existence from “rank and file” users. Think of it! Hundreds of thousands of shill accounts, with vast rivers of wealth moving back and forth – for one purpose only: to deceive. None of it was done by accident.

Bitcoin turns out to be something other than the fully-decentralized, unkillable network which so many imagined it to be.

1628  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: Postepay: motivi e rischi on: June 30, 2013, 03:32:00 PM

1629  Economy / Speculation / Re: ...AND THE BOTTOM IS... on: June 30, 2013, 06:53:05 AM
I answered the question in the poll.  The I read the OP.  Those questions have different answers.  Which one should I be responding to?

While I may be able to make a decent guess at the bottom, I will rarely be exactly right.  I will be buying all along the way.

You have a point: the title is objective and the poll subjective.
But that is how polls work: they make subjective questions to deduct "objective" conclusions.

The reason is to try to get a more accurate picture if the answers are honest, since anyone can guess anything, but he can say with much more certainty what he is going to do.

On a second thought an even better question about the bottom in a bear market could have been: "at what price would you stop selling BTC", since "would you buy at X price" seems more useful to find the top in a bull market.
1630  Economy / Speculation / Re: ...AND THE BOTTOM IS... on: June 29, 2013, 12:54:21 PM
I see absolutely no reason, why BTC should rise in the next month.

Here is a reason big as an ocean:

I am personally holding (my BTC). If I had USD to play with, I would start buying at the first signs of trend reversal.
1632  Economy / Speculation / ...AND THE BOTTOM IS... on: June 28, 2013, 11:27:37 PM
That's the question.
Be honest, so that we all can figure the right BTC price.
1633  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: Postepay: motivi e rischi on: June 26, 2013, 06:44:18 AM

Gia' qualcosa.
Ma io mi sa che d'ora in poi tratto solo sugli exchanges perche' ho gia' abbastanza casini cosi'.
1634  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: Postepay: motivi e rischi on: June 25, 2013, 04:14:40 PM

not trusting Nefario is reasonable.

except that he trusted him for a long time to raise lots of coins. Then when it's time to return them to the senders he did not trust him any more. oops

Then every other legit issuers trusted Nefario's data and followed up, with little or no incidents. double oops.

Google has acquired a 512-bit quantum computer from a company called D-Wave. This computer will be deployed in a network of self-learning machines that will eventually take over the NSA and run the surveillance state.

Note that this thing seems like a time bank or a centralized alt-coin barter system for poor ppl.
Then figure what could happen to bitcoiners when Kenyan-like Gov'ts smell assets moving out of their control.
1639  Other / Politics & Society / Government of Kenya attacks self-help program in Mombasa slums on: June 16, 2013, 09:32:07 AM
From Beyond Money by Thomas H. Greco:
http://beyondmoney.net/2013/06/15/government-of-kenya-attacks-self-help-program-in-mombasa-slums/

In an unbelievably heavy handed move, the Government of Kenya last week arrested an American aid worker and five local micro-entrepreneurs for operating a complementary exchange system in a poor suburb of Mombasa.

The recently launched Bangla-Pesa voucher system is intended to provide additional liquidity that makes it possible for unmet needs of local residents to be satisfied out of their own excess productive capacity. In just two weeks of operation, the amount of goods and services traded among the members of the Bangla-Pesa network increased substantially. Now, the program is shut down and six people are facing seven years in prison.  Why? Is this simply a case of ignorance on the part of government officials, or an attempt to keep poor people poor and dependent upon inadequate or even exploitative systems that are controlled by bankers and politicians ? The answer to that will become clear as this case develops. Your help is needed to get this matter resolved in favor of freedom, justice, and rationality. Here is the official appeal from American aid worker Will Ruddick.

Dear Friends, Family and Supporters,

End Africa’s dependence on Aid through Complementary Currencies. Eradicate poverty and keep six people from seven years in prison.

Click here to support this program and watch our videos.

Bangla-Pesa, a complementary currency program in one of Kenya’s poorest slums, needs your help. This innovative program gave participants the ability to create their own means of exchange so micro-business owners could trade what they have for what they need. In two weeks, the program already showed great success. But the Central Bank of Kenya has deemed the program illegal and is pursuing a legal battle against its organizers, despite enthusiastic community support.

These six people face charges that could put them in prison for as much as seven years:
·         Alfred Sigo a youth activist.
·         Emma Onyango a grandmother and community business owner.
·         Rose Oloo a grandmother and community business owner.
·         Paul Mwololo a grandfather and community business owner.
·         Caroline Dama a mother and volunteer.
·         Will Ruddick a new father and program founder.
We need help raising funds for legal fees and to bring this program back to life so it can help people throughout Africa in expanded form via mobile phones.
Our goal is to raise 47,000 Euros over the next 47 days.

Spread the word!
Sincerely,
Will Ruddick, Bangla-Pesa Program Founder

I sent a total of 25 BTC to an address that I was convinced to own in one of my wallets to keep them safe.
Now I realized that that address is in none of my wallets  Shocked

edit: I found that wallet again in an old redundant backup! whew!
