16301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reminder: Mt Gox owns the Bitcoin trademark on: February 23, 2014, 01:31:40 AM
there could be a conspiracy here. there are a group of people who want bitcoin to stay and remain as something to be fooled around with for hobbyists.

it's like them saying 'ok newbs, step aside, it's time for the pros to come in', then they get their own crypto-currency out there.

16302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Discuss: Do you think Gox is intentionally trying to damage BTC? on: February 22, 2014, 01:40:29 PM
JED SAVE US!
16303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Discuss: Do you think Gox is intentionally trying to damage BTC? on: February 22, 2014, 01:39:51 PM
interesting points. ok, if mt.gox is intentionally trying to damage btc, then all it means is it's not gonna end yet. it could go on until btc is down on the ground.  or at least they'll try to.
16304  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Bear Market just a huge influx of users getting used to the concepts on: February 22, 2014, 01:31:33 PM
no, it has nothing to do with new users, at least not from where I'm sitting.

speculators drove it up in the first place, and they have hopped out and will probably stay out until there seems to be some upward momentum.  It does seem to be scratching its way off the floor, but until they can expect that the overall movement is up, and will stay that way for a while, they'll sit.

right now there are not a lot of opportunities to short it, so unless you can expect it to rise, you're better off doing nothing, from a pure speculative standpoint.

yup. but question is, will those speculators get back?  if so, when?  if not, what's the next 'big thing' in the world of crypto?
16305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Bear Market just a huge influx of users getting used to the concepts on: February 22, 2014, 01:07:43 PM
^ i don't get what you mean. but bull markets and bear markets happen in any trading exchange. trends, either up or down, come and go, whether it's the stock market, commodities exchange, forex or crypto-currency exchanges.

we might as well get used to it because it never ends. if you're a professional or an amateur trader, you better accept the variance that comes with trading.
16306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Movie, coming March 2014: The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin on: February 22, 2014, 10:09:30 AM
This could be a good thing and a bad one too.
It all comes down on what it is about and how well it is filmed.

if you think that's good wait till you see the sequel,

'The Silk Road To Magic Mountain, A Bitter Truth'

There's already a couple of Silk Road documentaries in the works and a movie.

Make sure you stock up with btc just prior to opening day because regardless of how bad it looks like btc gets hit it will cause a surge (30%+) in value

Haha, yeah, I could see a lot of people going home and buying coins after the movie. It's probably 2 or 3 years away yet I reckon. They're writing the script at the moment.

i wonder how big the block chain will be by then.
16307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Movie, coming March 2014: The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin on: February 21, 2014, 04:14:28 PM

16308  Economy / Speculation / Re: maybe the price will go down like this on: February 21, 2014, 02:57:48 PM
Oh no, confirmed, it's a bubble!!! Look at the charts, we are going to almost $0

Oh wait, sorry, it was the chart of $266 bubble  Roll Eyes

it does look the same as it does at present. maybe there'll be a reversal soon.
16309  Economy / Speculation / Re: maybe the price will go down like this on: February 21, 2014, 07:23:47 AM
why not everyone sell and be done with it. then buy back when it's going up again.

i mean that diagram above IS gonna happen right?  might as well go with the flow.

16313  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is btc-arbs.net legit? They are claiming to make you interest on deposits... on: February 20, 2014, 06:43:45 AM
Scam

"Can we visit your offices?

In order to keep costs low, we generally do not invite members of the general public to visit our offices. However, VIP investors are invited to our monthly office cocktail parties in Geneva."

16317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this a scam or not? Ripple Big Coin on: February 19, 2014, 06:20:54 AM
I'm not sure what he's getting at, but do not trade any Ripple or any other of your cryptos for it.  Part of Ripple's infrastructure allows you to create a trade medium of anything that you choose, as long as others are willing to accept it.  If I wanted to create and issue myself a trillion SuperFantasticAwesomeCoin, I could.  To understand how this works, check out this forum:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411459.0

Ripple's concept behind doing so is that it supplies the platform to create any currency of your choosing, as long as there are others willing to accept it as currency.

Yeah I've now read some stuff on ripple forum. It's funny but actually it's as legitimate as any other currency I realize and also the wallet (not the company) is decentralized and internally tradeable. It kind of is already doing what NXT (which I'm a big believer in) is working so hard to do but already does it easily. But it almost seems too easy for the coin to develop and have real value which is interesting at least, that we need blood sweat and tears over complicated POS distributions or agonisingly difficult mining to get what Ripple can do in a few clicks it seems.

Disclaimer: I was a big believer in Ripple last year but got sick to death of the IOU system that regularly brought me to tears so I'm first to hate on it and eventually walked away from it. But you got to admit it is interesting at the ease of this coins production.

Any issuer in Ripple can create more IOUs.  There is no code ensuring only 21 million big coins.  An IOU is only as good as its issuer.

I actually like Ripple's social credit system.

yeah. one can actually do something positive from it. it's empowering its community really.

ripple forums usually have a 'start my wallet threads' in the newbie section.
