Did anyone receive the shipment from Blokforge?

Has the efficiency really gone from 2.7 kw to 2.089 kw for the 37 TH mode with the update in the firmware?

Well that would be nice if true.

I wonder what efficiency is for 31th setting.
16303  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 20 Killed in El Paso, TX Mass Shooting on: August 04, 2019, 09:55:00 PM
This is a really big tragedy but I can't understand something.
Every time after these tragedies, the issue of arms purchases begins to be discussed, and nothing ever changes, everything remains the same.
How is that possible?
What has to happen that finally the very liberal laws in America about buying guns start to change?
How many people have yet to die in tragedies like this?

Never changing never ending.

Guns guns and more guns.

Here is the simple math.

251 mass shootings in the USA for this year so far.

By definition 4 or more don’t  count the shooter

So 4 x 251 = 1004 lives.

Let’s say the average number is 10

So 10 x 251 = 2510.  While it seems like a,lot of people compare it to 330,000,000 million

Drop in the bucket.  The lives saved with seat belts and less smoking is over 10,000

So in terms of senseless death   What would you have 10,000 or 2510?

So the gov passed laws to do the easy life saving. Car deaths and smoking deaths were easier to stop.

I was talking about this in my lovely state of New Jersey today with my wife. We were discussing what out best guess to avoid a local mass shooting would be.

Like should we not go to the mall?
Or not go to a tavern?
Or not go to a movie?

For now we stopped going to the movies.  We know even though NJ has solid gun laws other states don’t .

Years ago I lived in New York City .  I knew a guy that drove to Maine once a month purchased four to five pistols legally in Maine. Then drove back to New York and sold them for three times the price he paid.

About 1500 was turned into 4500 in 36 hour road trip.
I know many countries don’t push states rights like USA
But states rights cause financial reasons for crime.

This to me is a huge flaw in the USA causing insane behavior and crimes due to inconsistent laws.

The age of sexual consent varies state to state. So what.

Some guy is 18 his girl friend is 17.

They have a lot of car sex while driving she likes to give him hand jobs.
While in the state of New York she is of the age of consent 17 but in New Jersey the age of consent is 18.

So while drive from New York City to great adventure in New Jersey she starts a hand job and does not finish until in the state,of New Jersey .

In New York he is merely a distracted driver. A simple traffic ticket.
In New Jersey he is a pedifile  a sex criminal .

These inconsistencies in state laws are numerous causing many people to behave crazy.

Why not the government can make its mind up why not do some thing crazy.
16304  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Going to be selling a thread ripper rig. on: August 04, 2019, 05:37:25 PM
Thats one heck of a rig Phil , I'm assuming it mined? What where the hashrates vs efficiency?

Nothing flashed it does 900-1000 for the threadripper
And 7000-7200 for the four GPUs.

So 7900 to 8200 Xmr hashrate

Many have told me flashing the four Vega 56 would get them to do 8000 to 8200

Which would be about 9000 to 9200 for xmr

I use about 1000 watts on this rig very stable on win 10.

Since I will not mine in house after 2020 this needs to go between now and dec.

I don’t earn that much with it in the garage as my house power is costly.

Obviously this is not going to sell for 3000 and I would not ask anywhere near 3000

Quick math of 2667/2 = 1333 is half price of what it costs to build right now.

I will post photos soon.

Does anyone here have any experience with the Antminer S17 Pro 53 THs?

I have one and truly wished that I had purchased more of them.

I paid 2225 for mine.

A good deal to say the least.

Three speeds.

Mine does remarkable at low speed.

About 1440watts and 40th

36 watts a th.

Two plug design is good.

The only issue is some say the psu does not like 240+ volts.

I provide it 221 volts and it has been rock solid.

When I sell my share of the Clifton mine to buysolar it will pretty much break my heart 💜 to be selling this particular unit. As it can mine reasonably quiet at the low speed setting.

And it turns a profit at 15 cent power.
16306  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB 100 S9's in USA, can pick up in person on: August 04, 2019, 03:37:44 PM

I could do 10 maybe 15.

I am in New Jersey.

Do you need psu’s and how much do you want to pay for s9s with a psu.

I have 22 but 5 are two or one board.

The other 17 are full power.

16310  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer m21s arrives this sat the 27th of July on: August 03, 2019, 03:58:06 PM
yeah it is tough.  I mined since 2012.

I have found  that  if you are right on the boarder of a safe load over time 3,6,9 months that wire starts to fail.

These units are on the border of safety for the c19/c20 cables.  So if you test  if could be good for weeks or even months then fail.

I could bullshit like I am an expert on the physical property of wire coatings.  Truth is I am not ,but I am well read.

Most wire covers are plastic derived vinyl based insulation.  Constant warmth  tends to slowly damage them  and they fail.

I have had more then a dozen warm wires  melt and fail over time.  Latest one was these pcie wires in this psu see link

https://www.ebay.com/itm/200V-240V-2450W-Power-Supply-for-Antminer-S9-T9-S7-L3-Mining-LOT-MA/253950507883?

ran none stop from Nov 2018 to aug 2019  finally failed last week.

I have had iec 320 13/14 cables fail.

and c19/c20 cables

all were over  3,6,9,12 months time as they were close  to the edge.
16311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Raspberry Pi 4 performance on: August 03, 2019, 03:02:01 PM
Rasp pi are simply not made for this task.

Cheap used Lenovo tiny PCs do a better job.

Dell has a good small unit. Buy a used one. Many will hold a nvme and a ssd.

I use Mac mini’s 2012 model and or 2014 models.

I clone a backup os with a wallet . And away I go.

I both love and hate RPi units.
To say they are not up to the task is not quite fair, they are up to it but barely.
The 4 (if it was not for the heat issue) is more then up to it.
It's when you are using your RPi as a node & a pi-hole & open VPN front end for your home network all at once you really see problems.
I am actually using the one I got from from the Avalon deal that never happened as a smart controller in the condo.

I have an PowerEdge server running Hyper-V that handles most of my "heavy lifting" but I also have many a RPi sitting around doing stuff too.

The nice thing about them is to play they are cheap and simple.
And, you can power it down from bring your node, swap in a different SD card and now it's back to being your VPN server, power it down again and put in another SD card and it's doing something else.

Do I 100% rely on it. No.

As with everything, YMMV.

-Dave

Yeah  I use them..

but used mac minis are pretty much bullet proof in comparison.
you can do linux if you chose.

some cheap mac minis

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Mac-Mini-Desktop-2012-i5-2-5GHz-4GB-500GB-HDD-C-Warranty/273868158121?

use this ssd dock

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Blackmagic-Design-MultiDock-2-4-SSD-Port-Thunderbolt-2-Loop-Through/264393927328?

I got mine for 265 on a close out.

they all just work so much better then the rasp pi's  and they don't use a lot of power.

the toughest one to get a bargin  on is the dock from blackmagic.  But it is a 10 year to 15 year item.

I think it is about 0.0159 coins

16313  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer m21s arrives this sat the 27th of July on: August 03, 2019, 02:47:54 PM
I am all for testing and science.  But my gut tells me  the m20s and the m21s will struggle in the box.

Upside is if it works  you can mine them  in your home.

Both unit m20s and m21s  are pushing the envelope of safety in the power cord.  as the c19/c20 jacks  rate at 16amps in a 24/7/365 constant run time.

my tests on 3 separate pieces 2x m20s and 1 m21s  show they pull over 3400 watts close to 3500 watts.

all my tests were done  with power in the 237 to 243 volts range.

3500/243 = 14.403 amps = okay
3500/237 = 14.768 amps = okay    but in my tests  power cords have open air  so they will rate closer to the 16amps

in a hot box  the power cord will stress more due to heat..  and that  14.768  will become borderline safe.

in clifton farm where noise is a none issue  we range from  217 to 231 watts

3500/231 = 15.1515 amps = okay and we placed the three units closest to the cool air intake fans

3500/217 = 16.129 amps = wrong  but just barely.  plus 3 huge fans hit it with cold air.

So I caution you with the box

1) really check it a lot.
2) measure volts
3) measure watts
4) measure temps
5) measure sound.

good luck would love to see if you can tame these beasts.  m21s and or m20s

@ whatsminer    please give  us 3 or 4 speed settings
16314  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer m21s arrives this sat the 27th of July on: August 03, 2019, 01:41:05 PM
I think it will over heat at high power setting.
I think at low power setting it will not be necessary to use it.

The issue is  the unit is moving  3300-3500 watts of heat at high speed.  It is old school 1 tube design not the shorter 2 tube stack design of the s17 or avalon a1041

The baffles will simply restrict the airflow  and it will overheat.

s-9 = 1200-1400 watts high speed

m21s
m20s   3300-3500 watts high speed

m21s uses 140 mm fans  it moves more air to cool 2x the heat
s9 uses      120mm fans  it does not need to move as much air.

If the whatsminer went with  the settings the newest s9 firmware offers :

-0.5 th
-1.0 th
-1.5 th
-2.0 th
-2.5 th
-3.0 th
low speed enhanced

i think the box  could be used if you had multiple settings

pretend  you had

55th top speed
50th
45th
40th ----------  this would pull say 40/55 x 3500 = 2545 watts  this may not over heat.
35th
30th

...
Just getting updated on 2 pages of posts....

Phil, hope you can find some ways to stay in the game -- too much upside this future of cryptos.

All this inconsistencies in US taxation and laws are just too premature unless they fully understand crypto-currencies.

Take the Facebook Libre case ......to allow Libre at the expense of people's privacy OR allow Bitcoin protecting people's privacy.

I will post but won't be doing any crypto activity from Jan 2020 to Jan 2021

Along these lines I would think  the issue will be cleared up by then.

I own  960th  50-50 with buysolar   various sha-256
I own    11gh 50-50 with buysolar  l3+ units

I will sell that to him  before years end.  Maybe with a Feb 2021 buy back option.

In the house/garage  I have a lot of gpu mobo psu parts and rigs.

1  threadripper  1920x
4   not flashed    amd vega 56's
1  mobo for it
1 1500 watt corsair for it
1 ssd runs  windows 10

16gb ram

that rig mines  xmr at nicehash

I own it out rite  and  it is extra high quality  open build.

I guess when new it was :

1600 for gpus
  400 for threadripper
100 for 2x radiator psu water cooler
  200 for mobo
  100 for ram
   100 for ssd
    300 for psu

so maybe it was  2800 to build it I (would not ask 2800 for it)   that will be first to go as it is the best in home setup. I  would prefer to package sell it  all parts together.   fairly close to howell,nj meet and greet sale .

But now  my issue to sell is how do I accept funds? If I take crypto  will I need to tell government kyc info on a private sale when I report sale on my 2019 return.

So I am crippled to do sales. I could sell it 1 piece at a time on ebay (ugg)  And be subject to endless sleaze customers.  A big reason I did crypto was to lower return issues.

On another note  I have 3 nicehash  addresses that are owed funds from the 2017 theft.  I will keep them active  since they are not income they are funds owed to me.

So I will be collecting  some btc in 2020 and holding it for  at least a year.

@ qctechno_isback

my machines are in Clifton NJ about a 90 minute car ride.  And I won't be going up there for a week or so.

Also this is an alt coin question,so I would suggest pm'ing  a few guys to see if they will test for you.

There really should be no difference in PSU efficiency. If anything, the PSU case looks physically larger which *could* imply it will run a bit cooler since should have better airflow and that often gives a tad bit more efficiency. Heavy gauge cables vs bus bars should be moot.

well  it is quieter on the lower speed setting then the bitmain s17 is on the lower speed setting.

I would say it is a decent home miner due to that.

my quietist new gear is the m21s on low speed  but 29th  is way lower then the high speed setting's 56th

the a1041 is 31th on lower setting vs 37th on higher setting.

So if you are a home miner  a few  a1041's on low speed  should work sound wise due to the fatter gospower psu

and dropping to the low speed you don't lose a lot of the 37 drops to 31.

thats pretty hard to hear Phil... you have done so much for the community and more.

See if you can find a lawyer that will do a quick consultation and consideration if the IRS's demands are breaching on ex-post-facto....

because;  there was no other regulation scheme on these commodities;  only regulation on the exchange for cash.

It's like beginning a tax on ice, and charging people for every Lb they made or acquired and traded over the previous 1-2 years just because they decided to implement a tax now.

I wonder if everyone that bought an AMD/Nvidia GPU will have to pay a hardware tax because it could be used to mine crypto;  not caring if they did it or not.

At least, this is exactly how I see it.

my biggest concern is exactly that I have sold 1000 pieces of gear using coins.  they gave me no accounting to tax guidance to cover the sales from a crypto coin sale.

I did buy a gpu for 500 = cost value mine for 2 months earn 200 - 100 in power = 100.

I reduced cost value from 500 to 400.  Sold the card for 500 marked a 100 dollar profit paid tax on the sale.  this looks like it may not be good enough  for reporting requirements.

Which is like we will see what needs to be done to make them happy.

I did far more sales and gave free instruction then mining .

2012
2013
2014
2015 most likely all of these are not to be looked at.

2016 ? not sure what to do

2017 ? not sure what to do I paid a lot of tax to them for this year. cap gains were good.

2018  for sure to be looked at

2019 yet to file and this is the year I finally cut a good power deal and became more of a miner then a seller.

So now we are at 36.7%, with the previous 25% tariff and 2.6% regular import fees. Thus this added 10% tariff starting Septemeber 1st,  on Chinese ASIC miners of any flavor.

I'm not sure what price of BTC or any crypto altcoin would have to be at the current difficulty in the USA would 'float the boat'. Add pre-orders to this and no way to any indeed!

A buddy says he also expects, regardless of the above, that BTC difficulty will double by the end of this year.

Sheesh.

not going to happen we won't be at a diff of 19 by dec 31.

Barring a price of 20k for coins.

a diff of 19k means  all s9's will be turned off if coins are 10k    there are at least 35-45eh of the current 75eh   it more then ½ the network.

at 19 diff price of 10500 the s9's are worthless at 4 cent power.  So the network would need to add a ton of new gear and drop all the s9's

of course if price is 20k  s9's are still good and diff could 2x by jan

These are the same, gospower, but you can still consider them integrated since they do have the additional cables between psu and miner, for regulation,  they are just not mounted to side of unit due to size.  They are solid units, considering all the failures we heard of with the S17 psu's thus far, i would be more comfortable with these regardless.

Of all the gear tested the Avalon  a1041 with the larger psu and this larger fan was the best to run at low speed. It was due to the unattached psu. If I were to use 5 more units. I would have zero issues with the loose psu.  I got 31th at lower speed setting and it was pretty quiet. Makes it good for a home miner.
