1641  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Mar 18 to Mar 31? picks are closed.... prize = 0.1 btc on: March 22, 2016, 04:29:59 PM
I agree with fingers crossed, it has signs this could be a good change.  Seems either manufactures are slowing down on making compared to january, or altcoins are helping.  And could be a mix of both.

I would be very happy with a negative.  Also past 24 hours price is moving up just a little and currently over 411.  So not a huge jump but still looks nice to see.

Yes I have this feeling that if you were a big farm then you will have made your S7 / Avalon6 investment, perhaps you have turned off some older Miners and everyone is waiting for 14/16nm before making any more serious investments?

Yesterday back to being a negative day with -3.47% and 139 Blocks. A possible band is emerging with the run rate moving between -4% & -6%, so here's hoping that the net of these 3 Periods can be Zero, or even a little negative?

Rich

quite good numbers  a little price creep to 415 usd

the  (+0.25%)   above is off by 4 percent or so we are real time

567 blocks in  4 days and 2 hours

4 x 144 = 576 + 12 = 588

so 567/588-1 = (-3.57%)

this would mean a diff of 159.6 about march 31

Looks like we leveled off a little over 415 to.  So was a nice little boost but looks like were done for a few day's I would guess.  We don't seem to get big upswings anymore very often.

I still am very happy with looks of difficulty, I think altcoins could be helping on this.   So I think it's temporary.   Also it's hard to say when but I still fear next big batch of miners.
1642  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining Solo ~ QUESTION on: March 22, 2016, 04:25:38 PM
If you're looking for profit, buy WAIT for the new bitfury chips coming out. s7s and avalons will NEVER roi unless bitcoin jumps up to double price. Solomining is pretty fun, though, so with 200gh/s I advise you to solomine a low-value sha256 coin like peercoin. The difficulty of sha256 altcoins make them reasonably good for solomining, even though you probably won't roi or break even.

All depends on your electricity price  That makes or breaks ROI.  It's hard to say wait for bitfury as we don't know release date and price.  Without knowing that ... it's hard to say waiting will get you more ROI.

With having coming up... a lot is unknown.  Even difficulty is hard to speculate lately.  So I would say look now at mining if cheap electricity, and not wait.  And some depending on price of electricity I would say not  to mine at all.  Which is sad but mining everywhere is not really feasible anymore.

I used to say ten cents would be a profit number.

That has not been true any more a miner now needs eight cents or less to stand a shot.

After the 1/2 I think miners will need four or five cents to stand a shot.

I think also selling for a lot of users is now part of ROI.  With 8 cent's even I think you will be able to mine to a point, and at some time it will make more sense to sell and buy BTC vs mining with it.

So I think trend of electricity getting less will continue, and selling will continue to get more important if not free/super cheap electricity.
1643  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can USB Miner be used to mine btc and ltc? on: March 22, 2016, 02:49:22 AM
Hello,

No,you need a scrypt usb miner to mine litecoin and a sha256 usb to mine bitcoin.

Look up one post this would be wrong.  "I guess it depends on what means by usb miner.  Assuming he means like usb stick miners there was one long ago that could do either.  - https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/dualminer-sha-256-scrypt-usb-miner/  It is very much outdated at this point though."

So there are stickminers that can do it.  But they are pretty dated at this point.  But I do agree almost all don't but a few do.
1644  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Useful Desktop Applications for Bitcoin ? on: March 22, 2016, 02:47:56 AM
Most useful app is one to monitor BTC address's.  Then you can monitor price, and amount in your BTC address's and not have to have access to account.  So you can view amounts in paper wallets, hardware wallets, hot wallets, etc. And there is no security worries as it only can view.

I use apps like this on my phone to.  It is great tool as I like to be secure but still monitor my addresses.
1645  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: March 22, 2016, 02:33:27 AM
is anyone still actually making a profit with these things? i see they still sell on ebay for what i paid a year ago.
i shut mine down last week after 1 year  of mining as electrical cost ($.10kwh) was more than bitcoin generated.

If you had free electricity then yes you could still make a profit.    I personally shut down my S4's long ago, and sold and bought newer miners.  With "normal" electricity I just could not keep mining them.

I would sell it off personally and buy coins.   I have owned many miners and wanted to keep them all....  but in the end I have sold all old generations and it's been a decent help to my ROI in some cases.

sounds like a plan. i saved the box. time to fire up the ebay sell account...

And this is something that is not talked about much but you really should always save your boxes and original packing material.  I always keep mine and if looks like other boxes write on it what miner it's for.   You will save money on good packing later, and customers are always happier when original box (normally).

But your on the right track heading to ebay with it.  Much better then unplugging and sitting it as decoration in my opinion.
1646  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: March 22, 2016, 02:31:11 AM
Hello. I guess I'm an idiot, but I can not understand how to do mine. I registered on bitmain. What should I do with r1 to operate. I do not speak English using, only Google Translator

Use your account you registered and it should show up on their website. It might take a bit for it to show up, will not be instant.  It should be pretty much plug in and it works.

Are you using crazyguys firmware or regular firmware?
1647  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: March 22, 2016, 02:27:36 AM
Well in that case what you really want in the bitmain R1 w/Crazyguy's software patch on it, that will basically eliminate the zombie issue.

Good luck with it, let me know if you are able to do anything cool with it.

It made a big difference in my life before it I was using windows as controller.  I had zombies every morning and evening... so always resting then.  And during day they did it and I missed out on hashing time.   I was using 3 U3's and the R1 with crazyguy's mod made my life much easier.

I have a R1 again, just need get it set up.  So that is a project sometime this week for me.
1648  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and the Halving on: March 22, 2016, 02:22:54 AM
This way we will have constant race in hash power which is good for bitcoin and security of network but it is very difficult to achieve constant rise of price, one day you will see downfall, someone "big" will cause it, for sure.
This can trigger major fall , we can call it panic. This will launch smaller farms out of business.

It's always been a race in power though.  Companies make new miners and pump out as much as they can for max profit.  Even in day's of early asic's tons were competing for sales and trying to sell A1 gear.

As long is money in BTC mining there will be companies participating in the hashing rate race.  And in all honesty if there is not profit for those big makers means none for little guys..... and I think would lead to loss in price.  I think a certain amount of race of hash power is good.

1651  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [RUN 2 CLOSED][SIDEHACK STICK]GekkoScience Compac Official sales thread on: March 21, 2016, 03:55:11 AM
Yeah, by the time I'd have gotten to it was about the time it should have been delivered. The information I needed to connect the tracking number on the post office receipt to your email address is all at the shop, and I didn't get to the shop until Monday, and it should have arrived Monday or Tuesday.

Well I am out 30 compac sticks. It sucks because if I had that tracking number I would have made sure to be around to receive the package as I was pretty excited about it. Either the package was stolen or USPS delivered it to the wrong site. I talked with USPS and they basically said because there was no insurance or signature required there is nothing they can do. Not going to lie I am pretty upset about this.

Tell them you want to make an official complaint that it was stolen .

It is a matter of principal and that reporting the theft to them and the police whatever police handle the report is what you would like to do.
Go in person be nice be nicer be nicest.

They sticks cost you more then 500 usd. So they have to do the paper work if you insist.

Why bother you would be stunned that being really calm relaxed and super cool to them about making the report often the item turns up.

Insist that you want to know which postman worked that day and what he recalls about the shipment.

When in doubt ask for a complete set of rules and forms to report the theft.

I did make an official complaint with the USPS. I know the lady that delivers packages for USPS to my apartment very well. I order A LOT of packages. She double checked and she was working and delivered the package that day. She even has the GPS tracking on her scanner that shows that she physically was at my door step to deliver the package.

So it is clear that it was stolen. My apartment complex was notified and I filed a report.

Beyond calling the police, which would just result in a police report, there isn't much else I can do.

I am going to be setting up a security camera for my front door, as I get a lot of expensive packages and don't really want to deal with another stolen package.
Honestly it is not sidehack's fault in anyway, and I don't want to come off as implying that. He obviously did nothing wrong here. Even USPS delivered the package, so I can't really fault them. Just some asshole had to come and steal it.

Pretty sad as I had sold my S7 and other gear and was just planning to do small-time mining as my new job takes up most of my free time. Looks like I'll be getting out altogether now.

this guy will be easy to catch.. as im 100% sure he lives close enough by to see the mail man drop off the package..

just get a camera.. or two.. and set them up.. and mail yourself a few boxes. Wink

I love my security camera's there are a lot of good brands and the night vision is great if you go for a good quality camera.  After you set up your system aarons6 is right I would get some big amazon boxes and put them out every few day's and see if you get a bite.  Hopefully it was a sad and one time thing... but if not a big amazon box will grab interest.

Also another trick is security company signs.  I do have a security alarm system for my house and miners.  They are so effective most alarm companies have a limit you can order per year.  But if you get a lot of packages I would get a sign and put it by doorstep.  I think they are surprisingly effective.
1652  Economy / Securities / Re: Who Know about the Best minning and investment website.. on: March 21, 2016, 03:12:16 AM
I have try nicehash and they give profits per week but it would take time to earn from it so much better to think it first better investing, also nicehash have their own support team here so it will be easy for you to ask help. good luck to you mate.

You will lose money unless mining altcoins and they go up.   If your paying to mine on a rental site, you pay higher then normal amount to mine it.  So I see nicehash as a hard sell unless you do altcoins, and at proper time.

I suggest looking at the asic gear out there.  I assume OP want's to mine BTC.  If so look at your electricity cost this will be key in if you profit or lose money.  But I would start slow and see how it goes assuming cheap electricity.
1653  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s5 Dorm help on: March 21, 2016, 02:58:40 AM
Also very possible for them to have blocked it from connecting.
As they are likely aware and don't want people doing exactly this.

I lived in 2 different dorms we had to accept a user agreement on first time connecting, it then registered your MAC address as agreeing with it.   Do you have to agree to terms or a sign in portal with internet?

It's been a few years back but with the set up they had you could not connect a xbox as it did not bring up a agreement.  The fix they had student's use was a router (they wanted wireless turned off) and clone mac address of PC that accepted agreement.  I would not be surprised if you have something like this.  Also some places don't like routers so they might have a better option.
1654  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Electrician claiming can't use 80 amp breaker for multiple outlets on: March 21, 2016, 02:52:39 AM
I have a Electrician who claims I can't have multiple outlets to support multiple miners on 80 amps and that I need 15-20 amp breakers for each outlet/miner.

We argued about it for awhile and he basically said he knows best and he is right without any real explanation.

Could anyone explain this to an idiot like me?

He is licensed..

I highly doubt your wiring is up to 80 amp's.... I would guess he checked what gauge wire you had ran in house and based it on that.  80 amp's on a single breaker is a LOT in most houses. If you are in a residential house no one builds 80 amp breakers.

30 amp 240 is a pretty good number and can do multiple lines instead of one big one.  But again if your guage wire is not good enough for above 20 amp..... hes saving you from possible electric fire.

You can always get a second opinion after arguing..... i personally would not pick him as your guy.  And next time try not to argue or get in a heated match it does no good.  I wanted 1 20 or 30 amp 240 watt line ran about 10 feet from breaker..... electrician gave me over a thousand dollar quote for maybe 50-75 dollars in parts.   Instead of arguing.... I let him go.  I could have called him out on it but what good does it do at the end of the day?

1656  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 21, 2016, 02:39:48 AM
My observations on the A6 are fairly new, but now that I have a correctly manufactured 4-pin cable connection, it's easier to experiment a bit and report some accurate results.

My first observation is that the "Chip Maximum Frequency" is pretty much ignored and a useless value. While I wish to repeat some experiments, I am confident that that after 2 hours of running, there is virtually no difference of the actual hashrate, or the fan speed that is present. I've tried values of 300, 400 and 500, and in all three cases after two or more hours, the miner is at roughly 3500 GH, and the fan at about 6700 RPM. That of course is way above the 35 value I set for a minimum fan speed. If you only look at the first 15 minutes of running, there is a difference in 300, 400, and 500 for chip frequency. After a couple of hours though, those differences are pretty much gone. I credit this to the the "Smart Speed" firmware. I think this may well be related to Phil's comment "the software has a mind of its own".

I am betting right now that the "Smart Speed" functionality is contained within the MM firmware, and NOT the Raspberry Pi image. On my used miner, that is version 601512-57532250 as I read the Advance cgminer status display. As I read the canaan website, that is one of the MM firmware versions that was released after the initial A6 hardware release in November.

I'd be interested to hear about other folks experience with their ability to "underclock" the A6 in terms of it's actual speed and fan RPM after a few hours. I am probably a bit spoiled by my SP20 which had really good range and control of the actual hashrate, and therefore heat and fan speed.

I don't think anyone has been able to turn off "Smart Speed".   So it's a good miner just not going to be one you will under and overclock.   I eventually just let mine sit on default and am happy.  Fan speed is not a issue as I have some big fan's pushing hot air away from miners.

The ones that were getting control of speed was through voltage.... I choose not to do it to mine.   You have to be very careful with playing with voltage or you end up with a brick.
1657  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and the Halving on: March 21, 2016, 02:34:13 AM
I can assume the majority of mining farms will stay in China and this is it, because they have cheap electricity.
They will flourish in this business and we can expect further development to come from theirs labs.
But eventually difficulty will come to one point where further rise will be non profitable and will stay there for some time. But price (demand)  dictates tempo of mining.

It's more then just that though.  There are many places with cheap electricity.  Most miners are made in China at this point... so they keep cost down only having to ship in country.  Also seems to be not only cheap.... but just as important reliable electricity.

I disagree on "But eventually difficulty will come to one point where further rise will be non profitable".  Since it's a open market price adjusts these mega farms if not profitable they shutdown... but I don't think that is going to be a issue.  I foresee them being profitable, if they don't BTC fails.
1658  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: hello guys i want to mine suggest me here. on: March 21, 2016, 02:30:30 AM
At our company, one of the IT guys installed a mining application on some of the company computers. Well, he got found out and was terminated the same day. Poor guy, I rather liked him.

Well it is using company resources for self enrichment which is wrong obviously.
In regards to mining in general for home miners i think you should forget it.
There is no way you will mine sufficient money out of the time and money you invest on this venture.

It's a horrible idea to use others resources to mine.  These day's its pretty easy to get software that shows everything installed, I think some would be surprised how many companies use this.  It allows them to track and make sure they have right number of licenses for certain products, and detect other installs.

That is a wrong way no matter what.  Home mining there are many factors, electricity being main one.   But it is still very much alive.   Just not for all at this point.

1659  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MOST COMMON MISTAKES OF A NEWBIE on: March 20, 2016, 01:46:27 AM
Most common mistake is clicking on every link they can find,
i believe i was fooled this way few times but thanks god my btcs were secured.

Also to add to this is the e-books that sometimes are posted on this site.  I would not touch them for anything.  There is always a reason someone does a ebook vs a post on forum.

Most I think are due to referrral's they use referrals in e-book, and don't have to include non-referral to like on forum.  Or the real nasty are hiding malware, but most I think are due to referrals.

But you should always be careful of links you click, or even more so what you download.
1660  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can USB Miner be used to mine btc and ltc? on: March 20, 2016, 01:41:24 AM
I just purchased a cheap usb miner to help me better understand how the cryptocurrency systems work. I realize this is not the best option for mining but i am not worried about making money right now. Is it possible to mine both btc and ltc with a usb miner? If so is there anything I need to do to mine ltc? the one i purchased is an asic miner block erupter

Depends if they support both Scrypt and Sha based mining, there are multi-functional miners out there

I guess it depends on what means by usb miner.  Assuming he means like usb stick miners there was one long ago that could do either.  - https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/dualminer-sha-256-scrypt-usb-miner/  It is very much outdated at this point though.

Most pick one or other though. Just is easier to pick one and excel at it vs trying to do two mediocre.  And less dev cost to do one, and most end up as SHA256 miners due to bigger market.
