16481  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: M3X Hashboard Problem on: July 13, 2019, 02:43:34 PM
Put it on eBay or marketplace on this site.

Sell it as a dead hashboard for repair.

Stop spending time on it and move on.

It simply is not that valuable to try to fix it.

You would need to take a good board and the bad board.

And use meters to test each board at many points. If you got lucky you may find the bad solder joint.

If it is a bad solder joint.

You may find a bad capacitor

If it is a bad capacitor

You may find a bad resistor
If it is a bad resistor.

You may be able to solder and fix any of the above.
You may be able to replace a cap or a resistor.

But if it is a bad asic chip with a dead short it is next to impossible to repair it.
16482  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-12] Japanese Exchange Hacked for $32 Million in Cryptocurrency on: July 13, 2019, 02:19:23 PM
It not that it is Japanese or Korean.

It is that they have lots of liquid coins . So they are targets.

No exchange is truly “safe” from hacks.

Inside jobs abound.  Many times two insiders are all that is needed.

I keep coins in trezor and in core wallets. And very little in exchanges .

Say 10 to 1 ratio.
16483  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: July 13, 2019, 01:08:35 PM
https://pangolinminer.com/product/whatsminer-m20-series/

yeah  and if you buy 20  they discount.

62th 1-19 = 2589   but  20+ = 2354

I would buy this if it came by sept 15 but nov 15 shipout  is  123 days from now that is a long time.

My 2 m20s should mine   .35 to .46 btc in that time frame.

as 138 x 123 x 0.0000276 = 0.46848    and with diff it may be as low as 0.35

16485  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What is more profitable , mining bitcoin or buying bitcoin? on: July 13, 2019, 12:10:58 AM
Great analysis as always, but i have one issue with this speculation, which is you don't take production speed into calculation.

We know that all manfutures are doing pretty bad in terms of speed and quantity regarding the new gen miners, i do not have an exact view on how this could affect all these numbers but it only make sense that it does affect these numbers to a good extend, overall the retirement of S9s could be way to far as coins price increase and not enough 40-50w th gears are being added.

I agree to the theory of diff flatness as there is noway a million  7nm gears will hit the market at once, but somewhere along the line with even 50% of the hasrarte running at 40w th a huge amount of old gears will have to shut down before more new gen miners come online, a few months of flatness is very reasonable but only after the halving.

I took speed into consideration.  we know they can crank out gear at high speeds. medium speeds low speeds

When buysolar went to China to consult with  Canaan/Avalon he watched the assembly line build A841's

they can build a lot of gear very quickly.  There is no question bitmain could flood the market with s17 pros if it chose to do so.

They flooded the market with s-5's to beat down spondoolies
they flooded the market with s-9's in spring of 2018 helping to crash BTC prices in 2018 yet continue to grow hashrates from April to Oct of 2018 as prices tumbled .  When miner finally caught on the over purchased prices crash more and the diff finally fell.

the difference between then and now is the s7 was pretty much under 25% of the network when prices were dropping and bitmain was dumping is s9's

while I estimate s9's are at least 60% of the network as I type.

There was close to 50eh in s9 or older gear last oct.
There still may be 45-50eh of it mining now.

that is a lot of m20s and s17 units along with innosilicon t57 and avalon a1041 gear. that needs to be built and shipped.
16486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Problem with mining is that its too easy on: July 12, 2019, 11:01:07 PM
the lower the barrier to entry gets the better it will be for crypto as a whole

Low barrier to entry also means that profit margins will shrink to virtually nothing.  If everyone can enter the mining game profits will continue to dwindle to nothing.  I've seen it on many marketplaces that were very easy to enter the labor force.

This is so lost and off track it is just sad.

16489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trump is tweeting about Bitcoin O.O thoughts? on: July 12, 2019, 06:46:00 PM
As usual, Trump is again clueless as to what his mouth is spewing. Not real money? Well, how about a paper bill whose value is just assigned by a few people inside the central banks? And for his information, the largest drug trades and other illegal activities in the whole wide world are not using crypto for sure. They are using the very same currency which is proud to be regulated.

This is close enough to get some merits.

USA
China
England
Fancy
Russia

they back their money with guns and weapons .

Their money can and has and will be used for criminal activity .

Facebook and every pos coin in reality is acting like a bank and they have no real backing and should be 100% governed like banks are.  Since nothing backs the pos coin.

POW coins such as bitcoin are backed by gear burning power.

They all have real value that can be measured.  BTC has the most hash and most gear mining it.

That value is real and  tangible .  Anyone that fails to understand it or says they don't understand it fails to see what POW's best service is:  That is leveling off and helping all the world's power plants have no excess power that is wasted.

I consulted on a 100megawatt build the farm had deals with 5 power plants.  20-100 megawatt float at 4 cents a watt.  On a hot summer day they used 20 megawatts. On days with lots of rain and the hydroplanes have excess power they scaled up to 100 megawatts.  So the power plants never had to shunt excess power into waste product when river flow was high and demand was low.

This is real true value world wide.  Much like a hammer has real value to attach wood with nails.

Both a hammer and mining gear can be used to do  good or bad.
Both fiat/money and BTC  can or good or bad.

Trumps and all world-wide governments realize pos coins are a real threat to banking and eventually will force every pos coin to turn into a bank-like company or die.

And pow coins are recognized for what they are: a tool to balance supply and demand for power  from power plants.

Yeah both can move money around just like a bank can.

BUT only pow coins have an industrial value while POS coins simply are wanna be banks riding the pow's real work ethics of iron , steel and power.

How come you didn't try out the new PCIe 4.0 SSDs https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-aorus-1tb/p/N82E16820009012?Description=4.0&cm_re=4.0-_-20-009-012-_-Product
Or at least get a Samsung NVME m.2 SSD?

EDIT: forgot we were in the mining forum oops

Costly.

The build was lazy man style all done by cyberpower pc.

I did order the upgraded mobo the taichi x570 which allows 2 nvme so down the road I will add a killer nvme.

The nvme I put in the build cost only  50 extra.

I would like to add a 2tb nvme down the road.

I will get a deal on the Corsair which is 449 at the moment.

So the build was about 400 cheaper with the lessor intel nvme

+50 vs +449

Eventually I will get it for 250-275. As I get some good promos with Corsair two or three times a year.
16491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: July 12, 2019, 04:28:02 AM
I'm kind of worried that 1200W+ is running through the traces in the board. At the same time I wonder if it's possible to push 8x Vega VII at 250W each  Grin

Bought one of these similar boards as sample today, but has a cpu socket to use a G4560 instead of the soldered 3865U. It's slightly cheaper than the onda boards and most importantly $86 USD Bitmain APW7 can be used instead of 1500w titaniums.

If on Windows..... I may share the same concerns with you... that's why putting this on Linux SMOS with tighter power controls is preferred without messing with Windows, registry, power-tables etc.

The 2400w Deltas are rated 94% platinums - I have got a bunch of these (during Parallel Miner firesales). They are really a live saver and I dont have to worry about number of cables needed even for heavy duty GPUs like 1080tis or 32 cables....

you do not need to setup with all that power into the mobo

psu send 6 pcie to mobo

psu send 8 pcie to cards

do not feed a lot of cables out of the mobo into the cards.

less energy goes into the mobo.

somewhere some place I did photos on this board  and

sending cables right to the cards = better

then cables to mobos to cards

the mobo still needs 6 cables into it for the slots to be powered.

it does not need any out of it into the cards.

although it is neater wiring .
16492  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buysolar and I will getting the A1041 to review and demo. on: July 12, 2019, 04:04:43 AM
no more  samples are available

I did order 2x 48 port switches  from newegg they are cisco and should work well. they are the ones I found via google.

The new network will be

verizon modem to
router to
3x  48 port switches
to miners in 3 groups

the route will also handle the warehouse owners net traffic  it has 1 gb wan in

8 ports out
and 3 bands of wireless.

he will have under 7 pieces of gear on the network.

we should have about 85 pieces of gear setup with more to come.

even if we max out available power we will be near 170 pieces of gear.

So we should be good to go.

very soon on our end.  but we will only have 2 a1041's in the short term.

16494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does Warren Buffett hate bitcoin? on: July 11, 2019, 09:42:25 PM
He's said that bitcoin is a rat poison so I assume that he hates it too much. He might not understand what bitcoin really is but there's one thing that we can think of why he hates it.

And that is because bitcoin is against to the traditional investments that he has grown and he has. Another reason can be that he's old enough to understand what bitcoin truly is all about. But someday it might happen that he will take back his words against bitcoin.

Rat 🐀 poison is a good thing if you want to kill off rats.

Btw could you please link me to his statement that  he says that?

🙏 thank you.
That statement was from last year.

https://www.coindesk.com/billionaire-warren-buffett-calls-bitcoin-rat-poison-squared
https://money.cnn.com/2018/05/07/investing/warren-buffett-bitcoin/index.html

Well thank you so in May of 2018 he looked at fundementals and he saw that alt coins would collapse due to ASICS killing GPU’s.

So he trashed talked Btc and watched until it got to December of 2018 and pounced on it at 3000-3300.

He then sold 1/2 when coins moved up to 13,400 .  So he is now sitting on a boatload of coins. And made bank . He now has 1/2 his investment at a paper cost of 3000-3330 a coin.

While in reality since he sold 1/2 at 13000 a profit of 10000 a coin.

So he can sit on this 1/2 of his original purchased until next year around April when coins move to 25,000 plus due to the 1/2 ing..

Warren simply manipulated the market with the rat statement.

It is why I wanted to see the quote so I could see the date.
That makes sense while me and probably majority believes that he really hates bitcoin. If ever he changes his statement few months/years from now on, then it wouldn't surprise me anymore thanks to you philipma.

The problem is that he missed the ship and now he can't get rich from Bitcoin. Had he benefited from Bitcoin, then he won't be ranting like this. Now his problem is that he don't want to purchase Bitcoin above 10K mark, after missing them in 2012 when the price was 1/1000th of the current levels. Also I read somewhere that old grumpy men are more prone to jealousy.
Read the quote of what philipma explained, it makes sense about WB.

A lot of young guys without wealth don’t understand old guys like buffet he is a cagey Dude.

He has solid money and he could have easily did what I guess.

It is easy to think old guys are slow stupid and stubborn.

  He is not slow
He is not stupid
He is not stubborn.

He is an old clever mofo. He is willing to do what he needs to do to score.

I am 62 not old as him but no longer a kid.
I have watched his moves a long time.
He has certain patterns and I think he has done this move two or three times since I have watched him do his moves.

Best thing about being a little older is seeing move of life’s patterns unfold. Then acting on them and being correct.  I never would have succeeded mining btc if I was 30 when I started. Being 55 in 2012 I was able to know how to ride the waves of btc mining.

I did aggressive growth in nov and dec 2018 based on my oct 2018 diff thread prediction ideas in mining speculation. It worked out well for me.
16495  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: July 11, 2019, 09:27:03 PM
Back to the m20s

I am now running 2 and they are pretty amazing units.

Basically 10 s9s in the space of 2. Use about 6700 watts combined doing 139 th at the pool.

What would I do with these if a designed them?

Two things either clock them to do 64th and pull 3125 watts.
Much safer load for the psu to do.

Barring that idea. Beef up the psu's make them use 2 c19 plugs.and make them able to do 4000 watts

You could squeeze out maybe 71th that way with no danger of overload to the c19 to c20

Connection.

They are the loudest miners I have owned about 85db

16497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Problem with mining is that its to easy on: July 10, 2019, 05:57:07 PM
Just like internet work that is flooded with people across the world it has become a race to the bottom.  People in first world countries are competing with people that are happy to make a few crumbs.  It is too easy to set up some rigs and start mining.

That is the beauty of mining. Some little guy with a 2 card rig can make a few bucks.

The problem is coins need dedicated developers that support GPU mining over asic mining.

Basically five major coins caved in to asic attacks and GPU mining was damaged so much it is yet to recover.

Of the major alt coins Only xmr fights against ASICS with algorithm change on a frequent basis.
16498  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Beware - scam e-mail "Limited Period Promotion - Ant miner S17 Pro" on: July 10, 2019, 05:45:32 PM

I have three bitmain accounts.

All three have been sent that email. Or a variation of that email.

At this point my advice for gear,is go to bitmain.com

Every 30 minutes. Every day.

And maybe you can catch a sale.

I have stopped purchasing any gear as it is over priced just about everywhere and everyplace.

My one piece of gear on order is an innosilicon t50

Due in August. For now I will mine with the gear I have.

I bailed on my t57 order. I was going to,get one from mine farm buy. Decided to skip the order.
16499  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: July 10, 2019, 04:22:23 PM
yes I have it now.  Testing it as it arrived with a broken fan.  Here are 2 screen shots

I used an m10 120mm fan
I used a 120mm metal fan plate from an old s7ln
I taped the 120mm mount plate to the stock bent  140mm plate that came with unit.

I attached the 120mm fan to the 120 metal plate
I attached the stock 140mm plate to the m20s

and boom  a high volume high rpm fan  with same 5 pin power cord replaced the broken
140mm fan.

now about 26 mins in

and

FanSpeedIn   = 5,370
FanSpeedOut = 5,760

temps
Temperature
SM0  73.50
SM1  71.00
SM2  72.50

firmware keeps board under 75 if it can.
both fans can do 7200 rpm

So it has head room  until they send me the custom 140mm 5 pin fans.

I had 4 of these on hand

https://pangolinminer.com/product/miner-fan-set-m10/

HAGGSFINN thinks this one below is the 140mm

https://pangolinminer.com/product/miner-fan-set-m10s/

and that it will work for the m20s gear.

an m20s 140mm 5 pin on left  an m10 120mm on right

bad stock fan on left good one still intact on right note the s7 ln in background

repair with m10 replacing m20s fan note the yellow tape it joins the 120 mm mount plate to the 140mm mountplate

so a custom 5 pin 140mm fan  is a shitty idea on some levels

as a 2000 usd machine would have been offline until a replacement was shipped.

I was lucky to have the m10 fans on hand as I own 8 m10 units and have purchased about 400-500 in parts for them just in case.
