16601  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with all the old s-9s. on: June 30, 2019, 05:46:17 PM
It'd take some custom enclosure but cooling would probably be more efficient if you had two fans side by side blowing directly into the heatsinks from the side of the board instead of from the end...

I can picture that. That could be better than my thought to further mod this is to use these

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Nelson-Wood-Shims-Actual-0-25-in-x-1-25-in-x-7-75-in-12-Pack-Fir-Wood-Shims/50051789

and this

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Frost-King-0-125-in-Foam-Plumbing-Pipe-Wrap-Insulation/1081449

glue 3 shims on each side of case and then line with foam wrap.

cost for a one heaters is about 20 for fan and spacer mod and below will do 4 for under 20

so 5 for 1.    so 5+20 = 25 bucks

15 minutes work

say 330 watts 3300 hash 40-45 db maybe  under 40db with the wedge and foam mods

__________>>>>>>>hashboard >>______________________________

I am going to fully flesh out the s-9 build  adding the shim and foam mods.

Maybe show it for monday the 8th of July.

I think I can build one for 25 dollars for sure under 30 dollars.

maybe get it to do 35-38db

and 3300gh at 315 watts

I have  20+ s-9's that will get pulled  so it is a viable idea.

This could possibly work with a Whatsminer m10 but that project would be off in the distance.

Maybe in dec 2020.
16602  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with all the old s-9s. on: June 30, 2019, 03:35:11 PM
spacer

The key to doing this is simple.
1) dec 2018 bitmain firmware set to LPM
2) 1 hash board in the center.
3) proper fans -----
The Delta fans I used were purchased from China source at about 9 dollars each
https://www.ebay.com/itm/for-Delta-AFB1212SH-12cm-Ball-Bearing-12V-0-8A-4pin-PWM-cooling-Fan/182961677356?  cost was about 32 dollars for 4 fans

4) proper spacers. ----- got these on amazon

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0103MXYA2/

cost was 4 per spacer you only need 1 spacer for the push intake fan

You are building a space heater that mines.
Not a miner that space heats

net cost is 8+8+4 = 20 bucks to make a 1 board 3.3th 335 watt heater.

This assumes you have a psu and a miner.
I have lots of s-9's and will be retiring them from Clifton farm this fall but they can do space heating for me in my house and buysolar's house

hard to read but it is 335

lastly the psu is a 1000 watt gold I think I could drop to 310 watts if I used a titanium

You may need run on Low Power Enhanced Mode as it may not cool at Low power mode

On my test model I do 4700gh and 480 watts and temps go too high 105 since the fans max at 2800 rpm.

So I simply do  Low Power Enhanced Mode get 3300gh at 335 with temps at 88 since fans max at 2800 rpm.

No real need to sound proof since sound is in the 41-45db range which is fairly quiet.

Since I have 20+ s-9s my guess is I will build quite a few of these units.

That fan I use pushes 115 cfm but it is quiet at 2800 rpm.

There is another model delta that pushes 150 cfm but goes up to 3600 rpm it may be too loud for a space heater.
16603  Bitcoin / Hardware / What to do with all the old s-9s. on: June 30, 2019, 03:29:31 PM
I have started a new project for this winter.
S-9 space heaters.

Design is dead simple.  1 s-9 board in the center slot.

december 2018 firmware LPM mode

and a few subtle tricks to keep them quiet enough to space heat

gui below shows around 3.3th with moderate fan speeds

Checked both boxes for speed setting

used dec 2018 firmware

16604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: how many gpu can i use on asus z370 h on: June 30, 2019, 04:32:43 AM
This is an alt coin thread not btc.

I asked mods to move it to alt coins.

You can mix and match asus and sapphire and cards. Best price is my rule,of thumb with that question

I will check on that mobo if, it will do three cards.

Looks like you mean asus rog strix z370-h

It has 3 full slots so yes you can
16605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it fair to compare miners to shareholders in the currency? on: June 30, 2019, 03:39:38 AM
no they aren't the share holders in such a model, first of all because they don't hold. Grin
I mean their role, is to ensure propagation of the coin network and they get a reward for it. So basically they are bank clercs.
They manipulate lots of coin, but don't keep them for them (well they have bill to pay)

wtf are you talking about.

I mine and hold the following.

BTC
LTC
RVN
BCI
DOGE

I sell some of the btc to pay all power bills and to expand gear.

But many of us miners mine and hold.

need to figure where I stashed these parts. I will post back tonight.
16607  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buysolar and I will getting the A1041 to review and demo. on: June 29, 2019, 01:53:37 PM
Ran it over night  does about 11 amps or 11 x 230 = 2530-2600 watts  and about 37.05 th  so 37.05/2530 = 68.29 watts to 70.17 watts on high speed.

Second unit was picked up from buysolar.

I have both running at normal speed

they do around 30-31 th at 2016-2015 watts

so 61 th at 4031 watts on normal speed.

both have loose style psu.

and basic demo/beta gui.

eth daisy chain does not seem to work, but I will fuck with it some more.

so I have 2 ports 2 ip's at the moment.
16608  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolinminer & Whatsminer FAQs on: June 29, 2019, 01:01:30 PM
I was using 2018.05.11.13.0  (12.5 TH) firmware for my M3s and when it is hot during the day I was changing the firmware to low power 2018.06.30.17.A.

But i upgraded to 2019.01.18.17.a  NOW I cant go back to low power fw. Because it is in a *.tgz file. I need a low power firmware *.bin format.

whatsminer, pangolinminer, microbt.  my head is all mixed up with all these companies and firmwares.

Any help will be appreciated.

Once again don’t change firmware unless you know the new firmware is better.

Go to telegram pangolin look for yang and see if he can do it for you.

He is the tech for pangolin
16609  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buysolar and I will getting the A1041 to review and demo. on: June 29, 2019, 12:42:17 AM
Lets say

once fully tweaked it is 60 watts a th for the 31th setting not 56
and it is 68 watts a th for the 37.2 setting not  65th.

at current prices it is viable gear.
it does not need many switches if it allows 100 or more for a daisy chain.
It Steve said to me he could send me ten this weekend I would take them with  the loose sloppy psu setup and wait on the buss bar psu's

Avalon is reliable gear for me so far.
eth daisy chaining seems like a good idea.

I will drive to buysolars house and bring his to my house and setup a 2 unit daisy chain. Should video it on sat.
16610  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buysolar and I will getting the A1041 to review and demo. on: June 29, 2019, 12:25:34 AM
I thought they were supposed to be 1736W @ 31TH?

maybe they are maybe not as the psu I have could simply be a 88% psu.

I am posting a video in a minute you can see this is clearly in beta status.

Your video will be live at: https://youtu.be/btdHHbfSJ84

the above will take time maybe 10 more minutes to load.

this demo does not have the same psu setup as passthepopcorn's unit had.

I have multiple meters and will clock this gear  very closely.  the rooms temp is 30c or 86f

the rating of 1736 watts is for 20c or 68f
16611  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buysolar and I will getting the A1041 to review and demo. on: June 28, 2019, 09:30:50 PM
volts at 230.6

watts at 2061

we will not be fully solar here this site has 5/6 cent power deal.

as of now we plan 90kwatts of solar 85kwatts of paid power.

cost say 3-3.5 cents net for 175 kwatts this is 126000 monthly kwatts at 3.5 = 4410 USD a month bill

we could add 300kwatts more of 5/6 cent power but that is for 2020 or dec 2019

she seemed to settle in at 31.5 th
and 2055 watts

or 65.8 watts a th.

so if we were all avalon a1041 we would have 83 of them doing 31.5 th or 2.61 ph

earning 2.5 coins a month   which is why gear is  selling like water in a desert.

we have gear and do not have the room for 83 of these but depending on the next set of tests, which will be the ethernet cord daisy chaining. We are looking at getting 10 of them.

My assumption is the we all go to built in psu with buss bars. and not the loose style I am testing today. I also assume more pools and more features in the GUI. As mine is exactly the same as passthepopcorn.

next test is high speed so far it pulls 2650 vs 2050 watts it hashes at 36.9 vs 31.0 th

so 71.8 watts a th I will let it settle more.

normal 2050 watts 30.8-31.0 th  this was about 1 hour 20 minute test. 66.12 watts a th

turbo   2640 watts 34.9-37.1 th  about 1 hour and change   71.16 watts a th

So beta psu
and beta software   it looks good  but not great

Still with todays prices this gear is a moneymaker.

biggest quirk was it did not run well on mmpool.org a small btc mining pool.

What is it worth? good question

Hard to tell with the beta psu  I would not rush to buy it.

I do assume Steve of canaan will post on the psu as I prefer the attached style over this loose beta model.
16612  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buysolar and I will getting the A1041 to review and demo. on: June 28, 2019, 08:51:31 PM
It has arrived. Unlike the other review I have been given a stand alone psu with cables.  What does this mean it means  I had to take off the controller case to see the buss bars as they are not marked pos or neg.

The psu did show pos and neg so I was able to correctly wire the gear. A relief for sure.

It is not that loud it can be sound proofed with the psu I was given from them.
I have it set to normal  and I am around 29th and 2060 watts.  That is better then the m10 not as good as the m20s. from whatsminer.  It is  pretty well made I will need to give in my case examples vs pass the popcorns

So a quick little review of the A1041...

Front:

https://i.imgur.com/V4W4zaL.jpg

PSU Side:

https://i.imgur.com/YSzMS6H.jpg

note the clean built in psu with buss barr attached on passthepopcorn's gear.

and the loose psu hook up

worse  then that is the miner buss barr screws are not marked

I removed the controller lid and could see the - + markings.
thus hook up was okay

close to 29th at the pool.  and 2050 watts  that is  2050/29th on low speed 70.6 watts a th

my m10s would do 2250/31th on high speed 72.5 watts a th

Okay the miner arrived but not the psu. Disappointed mostly seems to be fault of DHL gear was due thur.
it is fri.

2 boxes
one for miner came today
box with psu is floating about

buysolar is getting a set of 2 boxes like I am in his case neither box has arrived

here is youtube video of opening of miner box

... the socket plug was not fitting so i changed it with the old plug but cutting the wires and attached them ( Secured)...

That is so wrong you simply should not have touched the fan without coming here.

You don’t have to cut the wires there are little metal pins that can be released by pushing on pins that are on the side of the connector .

You then slip in the pins on the new fan.

S11 gear t15 gear s15 gear t17 gear s17 gear are more complex.

The controller the psu talk to each other.  And shorting your controller is easy to do using the wrong fan.

At this point you may need

A new Psu
A new fan
A new controller.

Good luck with your repairs.

By the way a substitute fan that looks like the original may not work even if was wired correctly.
As it may not have proper amps.

Barring all this bitmain gear breaks often and you may not have done anything wrong other then trying to correctly fix your fan.

Did you unplug the working s11 and use it’s eth cable on the dead gear?
16615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How are you supposed to keep your wallet.dat safe from physical attackers? on: June 28, 2019, 02:43:22 AM
you can have 3 or more trezor wallets and know your seeds.

or if you don't buy and hold
if you don't trade.

Merely mine and hold and report to your government you do not need to report any holding gains on the coins.

Ie mine 10 coins at a cost of 3000 a coin last December when coins were 3100

you have a net gain of 1000 if you hold the coins for the year of 2018

stop mining and simply hold the coins.  is you sold them all yesterday you have a net gain of about

136000 - 31000 = 95000  and you would owe short term cap gains tax.

Pay the gov the tax and do what you want with the rest of the cash.

open air for me too.

GPUs are zip tied to racks.

the room is the case and the windows are the exhaust.

Started my GPU farms like the above in 2016 and never looked back - ease of maintenance is the key.

Dust is the only pitfall though - I gave up on this long time ago and most of my 470/480 rigs still running at peak non-stop eventhough they are bloody dusty and grimy.

Well ..... as long as critical parts still works fine like fans for PSU, GPU and CPU - will just leave them alone. All of them are well ROIed several times over, so just leave them alone.

I will run all my

gtx 1080ti's -------- 12 left
AMD vega 56 -------- 4 left
till they die.
they are paid off in full multiple times.

the 1660 and 3 1660ti's are not paid off but they do earn a profit
16617  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: June 27, 2019, 06:46:37 PM
I like open air and most of my GPUs rigs in the past were all open air, but I agree with the above poster.

Enclosed and closed GPU rigs are better because in the summer the heat won't stay in your house, you basically just use a tube and force the air outside.

With Antminers its easy to force the air outside, you just zip-tie some tubes to the exhaust fans and you are done but you can't do that with a GPU rig thats open air. You can put a fan in front of it and put it next to the window but some of the heat will enter the house. Only way to do it right is to put it in a server 4U chassis and all the heat, except maybe the heat of the case will be exhausted outside and you save on AC costs from heating up your home.
...and the next challenge is going to be to find enough Scythe Ultra Kaze fans... They seem to be almost out of stock everywhere I look around here. Any other suggestions when it comes to strong 120mm fans to move the air through 4U chassis?

some lower speed deltas are good.

let me find a link

@ op you are pretty much fucked.

you must have this unit to run your gear.

https://shop.bitmain.com/product/detail?pid=00020190418172319945PvKR86Kg0685

and it is sold out.

so you are pretty much fucked.

I would post  at bitmain twitter over and over and over to ask for a new psu.

try to embarrass them to getting one for you.

What happens if voltage goes above 240?

Mine ranges from 117-123 on the 120 volt side. It was about 118 when I measured 237 on the 240 volt circuit.

There have been  some reports  of psu fails  when volts drift above 243-246

When have both 1 phase and 3 phase power in Clifton

65 kwatts at 228 volts 1 phase
110kwatts at 228 volts 3 phase

we tend to drop as low as 217 on a hot summer day.
we have never seen above 234 on any day.

In my house  I have reached 247 as a high  but I was nt running my lone s17 or my lone t15 or my lone s15.
They are all in Clifton
