16641  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Miss Universe Betting Odds on: November 30, 2017, 11:52:11 AM
Haha, who said gambling is always so serious yeah? Never took interest in this pageant, to be honest, think it's far too rigged to make for interesting viewing but this is probably a first for crypto (am I wrong?) so kudos no Nitrogen.

Just commenting on the odds... barely 4.x on the favourites so makes even less interesting to bet. Comments on the contestants... Miss Thailand and Miss Philippines look extremely unrepresentative of the Thais and Filipinas I know and see... but I suppose only nationality and not ethnicity is important here.

My feeling this year is Southeast Asian winner. Not that it'd make me proud.

How about a gambling option for Mr universe, eh?
16642  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manchester City can go 38 games undefeated. on: November 30, 2017, 09:10:44 AM
For all those who follow premier league regularly and particularly this season know that Manchester City are completely unbeaten In the league and post arsenal I feel they can go on to win the league without losing a single match as they seem to have no competition, Pep has brilliantly build his team from the back to keeper and the striker, he's building another barca and If this continues I guess it's city all the way for many years until Mourinho steps up, it's only he who can neutralize him.

I do follow it regularly, enough to know that it's far too soon to predict anything at this stage - barely past the 1/3 mark. Impressive run of results to be sure, two wins snatched from the jaws of drawing in the last two games says a LOT about Champion material, but to repeat Arsenal's feat over a decade ago requires a lot of luck too. Last night's win, for example? Thanks to an own goal against a battling Southampton.

Their next big challenge is the Manchester derby, but I also am looking forward to Liverpool when they'll surely want revenge.

P.S. I wonder if there are any odds yet on City finishing the season unbeaten?
16643  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can I use Bitcoin Electrum and Electron Cash on the same computer? on: November 30, 2017, 08:31:21 AM
The issue, as I understand, with Electron Cash is that it was simply a clone of Electrum (it changed its name from Electrum Cash to Electron Cash) and, therefore, works just the same way. It was meant to be used with Bitcoin Cash.

Before the fork, the EC wallet versions simply cloned existing Electrum wallets to its directory. This issue was raised, I don't know if it was ever fixed. But yeah, personally, I still don't trust Electron Cash as a wallet so wouldn't recommend using it with Electrum, even if this issue was solved.

Basically, always a good practice never to use new software that hasn't matured enough or tested enough for bugs.

Edit: but hey, a lot of people online reported no issues, so what do I know? =)

Electrum: very mature, stable, signed binaries, for Bitcoin. Solid documentation.
Electron Cash: 4 months old, anonymous binaries, for BCC. Typo on website, things like that just don't inspire confidence.
16644  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: November 30, 2017, 07:05:07 AM
OK, so I did get Everton's huge win right, I felt the laws of football had to give them a comfortable win esp with new management but really did they have to score another goal? Also missed the mark slightly on Chelsea (made 2-0) and got the reverse score on AFC. So many close margins for so few points.

I have Liverpool and two Mo Salah goals off the bench to thank for giving me yet another 3-0 win, or I'd have ended the night below my weekly average. You know, if I'd made 3-0 correct score bets on Liverpool every game, I'd be up more than x10. Such is gambling, and may they give me many more 3-0s to come.

Congrats to Wendigo for winning bastard of the week.

New thread, new game? Of course I'm in. Who knows, maybe that 20 pounds there will also be 200 at the end? Wink
16645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BITCOIN SUPREMO FREE PREMIUMS (7WINS IN A ROW SPONSORED FROM BITCOINRUSH) on: November 29, 2017, 07:45:29 PM
Hey there Bitcoin Supremo. Never realised you had a betting thread here (you're doing pretty well in our EPL pool btw!) and just spent time scrolling through it.

Sorry to read about your bad runs - I think every successful gambler knows this can happen, and you know full well how football can be, especially with the big games. Glad to see you're back on track with 7 successive wins - I've never actually managed more than 3 in a row, but then I tend to mix up my "analysed" bets with gut bets as long as my team (Liverpool) plays. Have taken a break myself for a month now as busted a few times.

Anyway, thought I'd drop by because BitcoinRush is my favourite crypto sportsbook! Still got the best odds around anywhere that accepts Bitcoin.

I do wish their system doesn't refresh so quickly... hard to complete parlays before odds update, but I suppose I shouldn't do more than 3 at a time Wink
16646  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-11-28] Bitcoin is a Bubble. But It Won’t Burst For Long - Akke Svenson, Ra on: November 29, 2017, 07:37:31 PM
The fear of missing out is driving the mass desire to buy cryptocurrency. Those who didn’t believe in Bitcoin at first sight are gradually changing their opinion. And those who saw their friends earning good money on the cryptorush want to jump aboard the leaving train and join the market en masse.

Yeah, for the first time, I'm actually agreeing that there are a lot of people entering the market on grounds of FOMO. Just seeing some of the questions on Quora and even Instagram now - previously scant on crypto questions, everyone is asking where to buy it, or should I buy it now. So yeah, people have woken up and the coffee's not just strong, it's being splashed into their faces.

I have conflicting opinions on whether we've approached a stadium we can can bubble-worthy. Price wise I don't think we've hit the top yet but the timespan in which we've accomplished these price points is completely outrageous. I also start to recognize bubble characteristics all around me, earlier today when I was in the gym I heard two guys talking about bitcoin. Yesterday bitcoin was mentioned on my local radio when it hit $10,000. But I think the people who start to invest and feel the FOMO are just opportunists trying to make a quick buck.

Also agree. I  think it's hard to ignore the symptoms at this price levels. Yes, percentage wise, Bitcoin is just following its trend, but we're talking about a lot of money here. I'm not saying I've moved over to the "Bitcoin is a bubble" camp at all, but I do think this is plain overheating, with a burst not equalling an end-all situation.

Feeling the breeze and enjoying it, but well strapped in for the bend ahead.
16647  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: November 29, 2017, 05:32:08 PM
So, after Spurs' away loss last night, they seem to have overcome their Wembley hoodoo at the expense of losses on the road. Never mind, they've only just whetted my appetite for the underdog this week.

Now on tonight's games, we've got three matches that look good for a medium-risk Double Chance gamble on the underdogs:
1. Arsenal-Huddersfield : Huddersfield Draw/Win: @4.x
2. Chelsea-Swansea: Swansea Draw/Win: @4.5x
3. Manchester City-Southamption: Saints Draw/Win @: 4.x

If just one of those games ends in a draw, it's @1.3 profit for three even bets. Not worth the risk or can we count on EPL to bring it home?
16648  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-29] Elon Musk addressees the rumors - I Am Not Bitcoin Inventor Satoshi on: November 29, 2017, 01:12:38 PM
Of course it's a subtle PR stunt, perhaps not from the direct PR/comms department, but someone at SpaceX had to suggest the idea to the intern, or gave it due attention. I'm sure Musk would be embarrassed to lay claim to this, he's a forward thinker in his own right, but has nowhere near the sort of technical mastery that "Nakamoto" had to put together those nine pages of pure, uncluttered brilliance that is the Bitcoin whitepaper.

I still feel that Bry, Kin and Oksman had the closest links, even if they denied any connection.

All that hardly matters now. One of the least fascinating revivals of the attempt to uncover Nakamoto's identity (ies).
16649  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-29] Hackers Want In On Bitcoin Action: Expert on: November 29, 2017, 11:43:21 AM
I welcome anyone to scan my device for wallet ID actually, since, I'd love to know what vulnerabilities I'm exposed to. I know I'm not as secure as I could possibly be, but like to think I'm doing enough. That's usually the folly of victims though I guess, that we've done enough.

I daresay there's a lot more to gain from hacking now than back in 2013/14, with the crazy amount and types of people new to Bitcoin. Anyone else notice a spike in people claiming to have lost Bitcoins or wallets getting hacked?

Technically, though, hacker purists won't consider phishing as a form of technical hacking, no? And that's actually the bulk of cases, especially with all these online wallets.
16650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction not being confirmed on: November 29, 2017, 09:38:58 AM
Your transaction isn't "lost", it will simply remain in the network waiting to be picked up by miners for as long as it is being broadcasted. Depending on your wallet, this could simply be achieved by opening your wallet while connected. What was the "other wallet" you said recommended the fee? And what is the wallet you used to make this spend? Again, depending on your wallet, you have other options, such as Replace By Fee. Read the sticky post in this forum section to find out more.

Your tx fee of >30 sats/byte is estimated to confirm within 15 hours according to https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/
That's actually not too bad.

Yout tx has a fee of above 10 sats/byte so you're eligible to use free accelerators such as viabtc, while its size is minimal at 225 bytes, also eligible to use free acceleration at confirmtx. I've submitted for you at the latter.
16651  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: November 29, 2017, 08:47:39 AM
I chose to watch the Tottenham match tonight, to know the weak points of the latter which always hurted by the small teams. But unfortunately, I have not concluded anything except that they do not play hard, they don't want ti win the game. I haven't founf that spirit and energy founded against Real Madrid.

Yeah, I'm beginning to wonder now if they're suffering from the same psychological problems as Liverpool, turning up for the big games, somehow spririted in Europe, and then just getting knocked around and bullied by the so-called smaller teams. The only difference for me is that they have an overreliance on one guy, while Liverpool have an overreliance on a huge attacking force. Spurs need to spread the weight of expectation around, while Liverpool need to simply shore up their defences.

Not taking away any credit from Leicester City, by any means. I think both Vardy and Mahrez have been under so much pressure but this game showed they're still able to deliver - now if they could just fix their problems at midfield left by their giants leaving them.

Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal - so crazy to watch, so exhilarating at times and so downright frustrating at others.
16652  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-28] Expect 50% correction On bitcoin Soon;Former Hedge Fund Manager on: November 28, 2017, 07:41:50 PM
If that's the extent of the major correction we've all been expecting (okay, the one I have anyway) then I'm absolutely okay with that. Although if he turns out right, that's a race to $40k before correcting to $20k, so it's still double of what it is today.

I'll be very glad to see it back down a bit after 10k, to be honest. Every amount of coin I get now is 10 times less than what I would have had a year ago, setting me back again and again to my goal of gaining 1 BTC. I thought I'd have it by end of 2017, but doesn't look likely anymore at this price.

Oh wait, why are we listening to another former hedge fund manager? Why former? Was he not good at his job? Wink
16653  Economy / Economics / Re: One Bitcoin, $10,000. Ten Thousand Dollars. on: November 28, 2017, 06:52:41 PM
That is nearly to happen. Yet the aggressive movement will not continue without any correction. And as prices go up, it is getting harder and harder for newbies to invest. The higher the prices the higher they think about risks.
Expect for increase but not too high maybe 'cause there are several things involved as an investment.

Now that it's actually happened I guess we'll soon find out whether or not this super correction that many of us, myself foremost, have been waiting and waiting to happen.

We'll need to see all those 9900 and 10,000 orders disappear first and then wait to see the whales. If as it appears to be, this is the first big sell off so many are preparing to do, it's going to be a deep breath.

If Bitcoin continues to defy all known patterns and expectations, then indeed life is good now.
16654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost all my bitcoin on the day of the fork in bizarre turn of events on: November 28, 2017, 04:38:05 PM
Would have pointed you to Jaxx support but you said they weren't helpful?

A little hard to diagnose but let's start at this point:
1. You sent all your BTC to your Jaxx wallet, correct? This was already confirmed as BTC in Jaxx before you ShapeShifted your entire BTC balance to ETC, correct?

If so, what was the Shapeshift BTC address you supposedly deposited to? If you have this, we can determine if it was indeed sent or not. Or the transaction ID that never confirmed.

2. You then transferred the entire BTC back into Coinbase. What was the deposit address for this? I find it strange that if you did indeed hit Send on Nov 12, you should have had a transaction broadcast already. That should also be in your Jaxx history

3. If there were 2 following transactions, these would have to be double spends or RBF if (2) happened - to my knowledge, not supported by Jaxx. Anyway, as morbius implies, if they coincided with the times you logged in, then it seems to be that your laptop is compromised.
16655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin saving. on: November 28, 2017, 12:32:14 PM
You're definitely not the only one that thinks saving is a good idea. In fact, the big majority of Bitcoin already in circulation belong to holders - people who have bought and just held on to Bitcoin, aiming only to sell at a very distant (or not so far away?) time when the price is at whichever level they think it's going to be at.

Now that Bitcoin's proven all its critics and confounded even its most ardent supporters with this year's performance, people are now going to think that $25k, $50k and $100k are all within touching distance now. So that means even more people holding even more Bitcoin.

You should thank people like me though. I regularly sell and buy. Of course I save as much as I can, but I'm beginning to see serious utility for Bitcoin and am very happy to transact more and more with it. This is what's going to be important for the long term. This is what's going to help maintain these high prices. Utility and demand. Sustained use and adoption.
16656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin could 'easily' reach $40,000, says man who predicted current high on: November 28, 2017, 12:05:43 PM
I won't make an opinion about the Bitcoin price, but I am getting sick of the "man who predicted something that came true" reputation.

It is so easy to get such positive reputation. There are 1300 cryptocurrencies. Make 1300 predictions for every one of them to be 100x, then delete all your false ones and here we go - the next big prophet. Crypto Jesus.

Right on. The only benefit all this speculation gives is for us to shoot the wind. It's so easy to predict this and that, I'm pretty sure in this forum alone we'd have hundreds lining up to show off old posts from years ago saying 10k and then what, we take their next prediction as gospel truth? Reputation is only as fresh as yesterday, and true crypto and Bitcoin advocates hardly spend time speculating on price.

I think it's time for Bitcoin users to refocus efforts on the tech, and support/encourage further core development. This heady highs have made us forget how close we came to everything falling apart.

Free media attention, free hype, free reputation. If this isn't a build up to this guy's next ICO or influx of new clients, then I don't know crypto anymore.
16657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 10k BTC! (Job is going bye bye...giving notice) :) ie MY SHIP CAME IN! Take Poll on: November 28, 2017, 10:00:00 AM
Well, what can I say? You did well and deserve the break. Almost 30 years working means you still have a good number of healthy years to enjoy your newfound wealth so congratulations are in order.

Realise your profits now, though, no need to wait til 10k since this is clearly your end game. Wise to do so at your own target. Actually, I suspect you're not the only one waiting for this ship to make port, so you might yet help BTC on its way for a long overdue correction haha.

Well done again, keep us updated when you get pizza!
16658  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: November 28, 2017, 08:35:08 AM
Well then, welcome properly to you Ziskinberg, if you actually win a prize at the end of season, you'll have a lot more than bragging rights to show off!

Guys, don't forget we have games tonight and tomorrow. I almost forgot to put in my predictions, so used to cup games and Champions League/Europa taking over mid week. Ajax has missed three weeks or something, otherwise he generally is one of the bastards I pine to emulate.

@hilarious: you still want to do the champions league small pot for us gamblers for the last 16 to final? From us alone we can have >10 players at GBP20. Or we leave all that to next season plus World Cup? I bet this thread will have caught the attentions of a lot of people by now.
16659  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Which is more profitable trading exchange or mining and why?? on: November 27, 2017, 07:03:10 PM
i have noticed that also, maybe because the price of bitcoin increases that is why it really is hard for the miners to cope up right now, but overall if asked which is better, mining can be good also, as long as you have the resources and you can manage the financial needs for your resource. it will be difficult also if you don't have enough resources and you are just planning to build your own mining resource, it will cost a lot nowadays, and to think that there is also extra money you need to reserve for the maintenance.

Er, actually, higher Bitcoin prices is better for miners. They mine Bitcoins to sell, to pay for maintenance, so of course higher prices mean more income. In fact, the theory that miners are the ones driving up prices partially holds true to me, since costs are increasing for them, they need wider margins of profit, so it makes sense that most newly-generated Bitcoins from miners would have a premium price tag.

Also, why do you think they're migrating to and fro between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash, if BCH wasn't ever going to go up in price? Mining difficulty is one reason, but definitely price attracts them, just like when Monero and ETH started rising in price.
16660  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-26]Bitcoin Crushes $9,000 on Growing Signs of Mainstream Adoption on: November 27, 2017, 04:11:23 PM
All the same, $10k is now all but certain, and almost for sure before we usher in the new year. Just too much psychology here to NOT let Bitcoin achieve 10k all in 2017.
I also feel like we could get a very very very ugly rejection when/if we test the big psychological resistance level of $10,000. That's why I also believe that not hitting $10,000 this year is a viable option as well. Too much inside trading going on right now, the whole tether thing, total marketcap coming very close to $300,000,000,000 without a major correction in the last 2.5-3 months. Perhaps we won't see a white christmas but a red one, this is crypto after all.

I wouldn't put anything past Bitcoin at this stage. But I'm staying well clear away from trading until I see steady months above current levels. I know, I've been saying that for months now, but I'd rather miss out than lose out.

I've actually said the same thing just minutes ago in another thread. I feel like the top of this slope we can see on the charts is filled with really low volume orders. Not many people willing to buy and not many willing to sell. The majority keeps waiting. Some for the crash and some for it to go even higher like to $10k so they can dump it all right before it touches that point and bounces back to some 6-7k.

Indeed, order books on the exchanges I'm on have been thin ever since the 9k mark. I suspect part of the demand is in expectation of being able to sell off just above 10k for a fat early Christmas bonus but perhaps the bulk of old investors have readjusted their profit taking to above 10k in view of the year's magnificent run. There're going to be a lot of traders flush with cash too when December salary plus bonuses are disbursed early - whether or not this means more buy orders or less, hard to tell.
