16682  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining: Adding Solar Home Now, as "Mining Hedge" for future 2020 miners? on: June 16, 2019, 03:34:12 AM
If you look at eff improvement
It is close to done.

I began with GPUs. 2012

400 watts 1Gh.  2012. This is 400 to 1

S1 2014

360watts 180gh 2014.  This is 2 to 1

2 years 200x power

S9 2016

1360 watts 13000 gh this is .1 watts to 1 gh

2 years  20x power.

S15

1600 watts 28000 gh this is .056 watts a gh

2 years 2x the power.

This means we simply won’t get better at the rate we did.

So this is the time to do solar.

Right now an s9 would earn money mining on your listed solar setup.

As long as you have 21k to invest you should do it.

To further clarify you need 30k you get a 9k rebate. You spent 21k

You use 1 s9 cost 250.  You should  still have at least 3btc in hold .  Along with the money spent on this.

Along with 25k in cash.

So about 1/3 solar and miner
About 1/3 btc
About 1/3 cash.

If I had ability to do that I would.

To clarify down the road when price drops on say s15 to cheap replace that s-9

The solar should last 20-30 years.
16683  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining: Adding Solar Home Now, as "Mining Hedge" for future 2020 miners? on: June 16, 2019, 02:52:13 AM
We have solar and it can be worthwhile.

A lot depends on your site and your state laws.

you are looking at the hedge wrong.

pretend 21k is your cost

a safe investment gives 4%  so 840 a year in earnings on 21k

what do we earn with 21k + 1k = 22k  the one  1k was four 4 s-9's with psu's

that is 52th which right now is 0.053844 btc a month  or 473.82  x 12 = 5685 a year.  if the solar  covers 4 machines  well a 9kwatt system covers 1 machine

so  redo figures  21K +250 = 21250     1 s9 will be fully covered  and run for free forever  at the moment it will earn 0.053844/4 =

0.013461 btc a month  or 118 usd a month x 12 = 1421 usd a year maybe  vs 840 a year leaving the 21k in the bank

So if you have 21k  to spend on your system  the chances are it will always earn some money  if you don't spend past its power.

@ fdlhash

I have used:

offordscott  he has been a good seller/broker

I have also used

pangolinminer.com they also been good for sales of m3 m10 m20s to me.

I would recommend  either seller for  the new whatsminer m20 series of gear.

I also recommend coming to this website to ask about  reliable sellers of gear.
16685  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Quiet [40 dB, 8 THs/500 W] Hotmine Convector Miner. Product Overview on: June 15, 2019, 02:54:56 AM
I get the whole space heater that mines, but who would spend that much on a space heater!

Not me and I have a place that uses a space heater 9 to 10 months each year. As I said I use three PCs each one has two 1080tis that have been paid off they use about 800-900 watts and are pretty quiet as I run them with low clocks.

This is the problem with this gear if marketed as a heater that mines it is 1800 which is too costly.

They are better off with s9 chips clocked to 80 watts .

The s9 clocked to freq 475 at 8 volts would do 540 watts and 7th

design a two board case like the older s7 ln and it would be under 500:bucks vs 1800

- Black frame with 7 riser cards
- 5 fans
- Corsair M850, & XFX Pro 1250W
- MSi Z170A Gaming M5 motherboard
- network cable, 6'
- 1x 4GB sticks  DDr4
- Pentium CPU
- 7x Sapphire Nitro RX470 4GB Samsung VRAM 23.2 MH/s each

Might want to do some more research on what used 4GB 470's go for.

I can buy new 8 card  8gb each rigs from panda miner  for 1000 edit 1150

here is a link https://www.pandaminer.com/product/product_detail/46

and I did find the 470 8gb model from them for 1000
https://www.pandaminer.com/product/product_detail/47

So Asking  1300 is higher then most will pay.

as 7 cards vs 8 cards
4gb vs 8gb
old vs new

1000 vs 1300

maybe you get 600-800 for it.  Just trying  to point out pricing  not break balls.

We sometimes lose touch as to the worth of the gear.

Oh we absolutely do, especially when I have been out of the loop for months, but that's busy season as a CPA tax professional I suppose.

Anyway, we were thinking 150 per card, then 2 power supplies and the rest being a couple hundred.  Does that extra stuff not carry much value anymore?

Edit; what about shipping also? I used to have to pay a couple hundred for shipping on a panda miner, which should be factored into our calc as it wont cost that to ship our rig.

so 1000 new free shipping  gets new 8 gpus 470 8gb

and you asked 1300  old 7 gpus  470 4gb

So  if you match their price of 1000 and offer free shipping

I suppose you could argue it is fair as they may stick the buyer in the usa with the trump tax.  which moves that 1000 to 1276 from panda

so ⅞ x 1276 = 1116.5

so  they would be very close to you gear if you ask 1000  since they are new you are old
they still have  8gb vs your 4gb..

so  maybe  1000 with free shipping matches them at 1000 free shipping if and only if they charge you the trump tax.

So an arguably fair price on your end is 1000  not 1300

(and Amazon systematically screws them over in every way possible but is too big and rich to effectively call them to task on any of their pretty horrible practices; it doesn't help that stuff like "undercut everyone forever in order to push them out of business and steal their markets" is literally the site's founding principles - which includes finding products that sell well from individual sellers, then buying out their suppliers and selling it directly, forcing those individuals out of business. And let's not forget withholding payouts to sellers, sometimes indefinitely, which means they get to draw interest on literally billions of dollars of other people's money)

But yeah, the guy selling on Amazon is one of the official sellers.

Yeah amazon is pretty brutal as is Microsoft.

But I earn free gift cards from bing for amazon.

So I like many others use both companies.

Do I like the two companies no.  Modern world can be a bitch.

Pick your shots.

Well it could help .

It is about a 2% increase in pool size.

I will test the unit out for a week or so then bring it to Clifton Hosting.

I hope we hit in the next week. It has been a while.
16693  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Quiet [40 dB, 8 THs/500 W] Hotmine Convector Miner. Product Overview on: June 14, 2019, 01:04:26 AM
Heh - not a chance in hell any miner like this would still be making money in 30 months from now.

it is a space heater that mines
not a miner that heats.
If treated that way it always earns money..Since you only use it when you heat or need heat.

If you consider it to be a miner that heats you do not want it.

If you read the example I gave of my friends office he could use it.

He does not control the heat
He does not control the ac

His place is too cold from lack of heat 5 or 6 months every year.
It is also too cold for 4 to 5 months from too much ac every year.

so for 9-11 months every year he used to use this

note image is from amazon of a delongi space heater:

he would set it to 600 or 1000 watts and run it for 9 to 11 months a year.  so 9 months is 9 x 720 = about 6500 kwatts lets round down to 6000 kwatts spent on wasted heat every year

if he spends 6000 kwatts on this gear none of that counts as power cost.

so that gear would be earning money in every year it works for the first 6000 kwatts it uses.

Do I think it is worth buying at 1800 no I don't I think I can build a quieter miner cheaper that cost less.

Since my friends off basically has 6000 kwatts of power for me to burn each year  I have been doing it for years. (2014-2019)
16694  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: June 14, 2019, 12:33:53 AM
My opinion for what it is worth is that it pushes the psu too hard  and should be tweaked 5% lower to 65th vs the 68.6 th I am getting> I think the psu would work better doing 3200 or 3100 watts  vs the 3375 I am doing on mine.

I realize that  ac 3375 x .94 =  3173 dc  so it is not maxed .

Oh it is running here you can log in and see it's hash

m20s

http://ckpool.org/users/16yLHLoeyuCLPMXkVpC3gyrRYvwRGwjKJr

I am running the gear in cool spots  right now I moved it out of garage which was 80f  to the small solar array in howell

that is about 60f  so it does not struggle much as temps are easy on it.

I would think that in a 95f room it will struggle and pull more watts.

It is a loud beast indeed! (the M20S 68Ths)

I've mined with all kinds of devices but this one was the first one
which made me startle a little during the startup. Cheesy

Here is a video:
https://mega.nz/#!UgcBhAoY!tXsJnCTid1zHgLzsrEzIoKBQR1u3gPuBGElo-gwaZ8Q

The numbers are looking great,
about 68Ths, 3.4kW

A further review will soon follow..

Nice.

Does your low power option work or do you get error 201?
16697  Economy / Computer hardware / My Escrow services for computer/hardware sales will be suspended. For a while. on: June 13, 2019, 04:34:03 PM
Normally I would post under services section. But frankly 99% of the escrow  I do is for computer/hardware sales section here.As you all know the trust system is being revamped and you need to be more deliberate with purchases.

My last month of escrow work has been pretty brutal as I get many requests to escrow with numerous pm's and time consumed.  More then ½ of inquires become a no deal and it gets to be very tiring when you answer 50 pm's taking time  to get a deal setup and done right and it then dies. I have begun to suspect that this is intentional on scammers part  to give me 10 hours of weekly work that simply leads to nothing.
With the ratings of everyone fully altered this week I want to check how this all shakes out before I do new escrows. It will mean more time to see what each person is about.

So please be careful if you must buy As I won't escrow  for a bit of time.
16698  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: June 13, 2019, 04:16:49 PM
Yeah  I can only run it until about 11pm as I don't want my neighbors to kill me.

I can run the s-9    24/7/365  and it is not as noisy.

We are waiting for  some power work in Clifton I will bring it up to the bigger farm on monday .
16699  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: June 13, 2019, 04:02:53 PM
the 21s is like the bitmain t17  cheaper to buy but not as good as the  s17

the m20s is like the bitmain s17 more costly to buy  but better then the t15

Having run the m20s using close to 3360watts and getting 68.6 th

it is a beast  it reminds me of this scene in the movie " fast and furious "

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtnTZSJndPc

it is an industrial machine  as it sounds worse then any s-9
16700  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: A921 and A851 best underclock configs to decrease temp on: June 13, 2019, 03:52:02 PM
the A841  was great

the a851
the a921 not great

My a921 is in a remote area and power cost is low enough I gave up trying to get  good number on it.

I let it run.
