you mean that huge bid mountain was REAL?! Shocked

It doesn't matter if the bid mountain was real, it just matters that people bought the asks. All those bids might have been fake, but the people pushing the price up are real.

they were real.  it takes real money to put up a bid at mtgox.

Goat won my contest too.  Way to go! Cheesy

I was using Thai time as I am in Thailand. Its 11am here. Yeah I have been damned lucky hitting this. I'm massively up on bitconica:)

Where oh where are all the bears who have been bragging about being massively up on Bitcoinica?

16769  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nagle on: December 19, 2011, 07:53:36 PM
I have some dim recollection of him saying something like he did his buy-in at around $2.20.

I could be totally wrong, or thinking of a different person.  Whoever it was (if anyone) appears at present to have 'done good.'  I cannot say that I did since I had been grabbing at the falling knife for half a year now.  But the money I was putting in down in that range went farther, so break-even is coming into focus lately in spite of my relatively poor trading performance and strategy.

no, do not give him credit for that kinda foresight.  he said multiple times that Bitcoin was headed to the dustbin of history.

16771  Economy / Speculation / Re: Long-term market reversal? on: December 19, 2011, 02:51:53 PM
this has been obvious since i put up my only 2 threads ever in this Wild West forum a while back.

haha, people like Nagle were still here back then.  Now it's only proudhon and he's not trolling anymore.

yeah, i took a real beating from all the trolls back then.  wasn't fun but i had to defend what i think is a revolutionary achievement.

16773  Economy / Speculation / Re: This lack of volatility almost makes Bitcoin look... civilized on: December 19, 2011, 02:45:17 PM
this volatile price rise will Doom the Bitcoin economy.  all the merchants will be forced to go away. Grin

16775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Qt, bitcoind version 0.5.1 released on: December 18, 2011, 03:46:59 AM
i hadn't backed up my wallet for a while and just noticed that there is now a wallet.dat and a wallet.dat.rewrite in my Bitcoin folder.  which is the real private key wallet that needs to be backed up?

I believe .rewrite is the old wallet, which ideally should be "rewritten" over since it may hold unencrypted private keys as a result of a bug in the 0.4 wallet encryption code. Ideally though if you used the built in encryption prior to 0.5 you should transfer your coins to a new wallet in case the old one has leaked.

thats a good pt.  i'm moving them now....

0.4 still won't go away!  automatically loads in my tray despite 0.51 download.
16778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Qt, bitcoind version 0.5.1 released on: December 16, 2011, 01:45:45 PM
did u get that reversion to a previous password fixed?

Explain?

in v0.4 i changed my pw once.  then i installed 0.5 and encrypted the wallet.  the new pw wouldn't work; i had to use the original pw.

also will the new version overwrite previous versions?  0.5 left 0.4 on my win 7 version and occasionally 0.4 opens up automatically.  interestingly its wallet is encrypted and i can send btc's with the password from within 0.4
