Hello!
I install miner for DarkCoin on Xubuntu 13.04:
sudo -s
git clone https://github.com/ig0tik3d/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2.git
cd darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2
./autogen.sh
bash: ./autogen.sh: Permission denied.
What's the problem?

use sudo before the argument, it gives you root permissions and also, use https://github.com/ig0tik3d/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2.c.git as it runs much faster Smiley

Edit, fixed (I think, LOL)

The state of the network

1.) We launch open source and hope we gain a good name in the community. If done correctly, all of the other coins will just be clones that don't add anything original. I would still be working on other functionality and improvements, so we'd always be ahead of the rest.

2.) We implement all of the unique technology as a closed source plugin. The plugin would be shipped separately and added to a folder to enable the privacy features, it would also work normally if it didn't find the plugin. This is how NVidia ships their closed source drivers for their video cards with linux.

Which should it be?

+1 for open source. Closing the source would hinder adoption because of limited usability (unless you are going to provide binaries for every possible OS) and limited trust (personally I would not use it if it's closed). IMHO people would clone this coin with binary plugin anyway, I don't see anything preventing them from doing so.

But we should first do something about the network being raped.

Totally disagree, it's like allowing all the alt coins to rape eduffield's work!  They will anyway in the end, but let his work gain recognition first before giving it all away!

I think it should remain closed source a while after going live with it. Some people are going to use the plugin no doubt, even though most wouldn't. However, the promise that the source will be released soon, and the fact that it is working, will affect the market price positively (and thus general interest towards the coin). And also it creates yet another climax point when there will be countdown to the release of the source etc. All about marketing. Smiley
Darkcoin would market itself if it went live with closed source.  But most definitely not in a positive way.

"Anonymity with closed source software?  LOL"

Maybe, MAYBE it would have worked in a pre-NSA-Snowden era.  But these days?  ABSOLUTELY NOT.

I don't think you get it, people know it will be open sourced "soon" and while trusting people use it, it will be  proven effective, then another bit bump when it's finally opened!!  We have to protect Eduffield's work until he gets the word out loud and clear.

Btw, I trust him because there is NO WAY a governmental agency could produce, even a bitcoin clone, LOL, they're too incompetent and unmotivated (sorry, no offence to those who hold Gov jobs, but you know it's true Wink  )

I like the way you think, please stick around Wink

Closed source at first, no question. Then after few months when DarkCoin has become de-facto anonymous transfers enabling currency release the source.

If people don't trust their whole wallet balance to the closed source plugin, they can have their main wallet running without the plugin, and xfer the amounts they want to transfer anonymously to the another wallet with the plugin.

Agree

Open Source or Closed Source?

Closed source until beta/release to protect the coin from clones while it is being developed.  Clones are not bad, and it can provide a legitimate competitive rivalry among developers, but I think doing it this early would be a mistake pragmatically due to greed and capitalistic manipulation.

After that, it must, must, MUST be open source -- the community is for the most part somewhat more knowledgeable in cryptography and the need for anonymity in transactions, and you simply cannot have this if it is closed source.  Anecdote: this is why Truecrypt is infinitely more popular than any other data encryption.  No matter how good your intentions, no-one is going to trust a closed source client these days.  No one even trusts "trustworthy" companies like Google with their data as they did all doe-eyed in 2008 with their (in)famous "do no evil" motto when they, too, simply bend to the will of their masters.

Again, I agree, but need to keep reading, LOL, I'm behind!

1690  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | CPU only | NO PREMINE on: February 09, 2014, 02:06:15 AM
Thanks guys, I got it turned off, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't leave it on?  We need to counter balance that whale?

Also, I did have 20 cores, and I thought the rate was small... do I have the wrong settings?

minerd -a X11 -o stratum+tcp://drk.lotterymining.com:4444 -u me.XCOIN -p PW -t 8

Can anyone help me improve that?

in the meantime, I'm trying to kill er, I mean reinstall my Ubuntu.  after an update a few days ago it's gone to hell and I'm a bit pissed, LOL

Thanks everyone!!  BTW. if you haven't seen that Hitler/maxcoin jibe on youtube yet, you gotta go see it, so funny.  I had to pause a lot 'cause the subtitles go by fast!

Are you using minerd version c?
Yes

And I just learned how to use Azure  Cry

Ah sorry Sad Hey, just make sure you shut down your virtual machines so you can keep your $200, you have 27 days to use it! Don't leave them running! I'm not on trial anymore I pay as I go but I'm shutting them all off at retarget minus my home setup :\.. I'll be at a huge loss at that point

Erg, trying to find out how, LOL

Wow Auntie Steph look at your hashrate!  Shocked

Edit: wow lottery mining is starting to move!

LOL, but now I have to figure out how to turn the darn thing off to save my time!  LOL

Thank you SeriousCoins14, I just did that and am kicking myself that I didn't do it sooner.  But I can only absorb so much info at a time, LOL

Hi

Is DRK and XCO now the same thing and can be traded on same exchanges?
So if the Exchange says DRK then you can send them XCO?

Thanks

They are the same thing, but you must update your wallet.   please see my post above
1696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | CPU only | NO PREMINE on: February 08, 2014, 06:24:50 AM
I can spare you 20drk Smiley
(Im not that rich myself)

Aww,, that's sweet of you, but I'm mining and working on building up my stash.  I meant if I had money, I'd buy more drk.  Save it, I really think this is going to be an important coin some day Smiley

I have some coins in my wallet xcoin, I have to do?

EDIT:
First thing you do is save a backup of your wallet! File=>Backup Wallet  then:

What you need to do is download the Darkcoin wallet and install it.  Next, take a COPY of your Xcoin files in %AppData% and put it in your Darkcoin file in same location.  MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LOOSE YOUR WALLET.DAT FILE

This could be the bitcoin killer if there ever will be such coin? Really though, anonymity has a high value these days, and after silkroad got seized, this should be even more attractive.

As Eduffield has previously posted, the way all coins work now (except the ones that run transactions through established cloaking services) if anyone knows your number, they can see where you spend your coin, like having an open checking account, that shows anyone interested, where you spend your money.  I'm a private person, but don't do anything that illegal, I just want my privacy period.  That's why I like this coin!  I really wish I could buy some!!  It'd be the only coin I'd buy after researching everything I have this past month or so, LOL.  I'm a super newb to this myself.  no money though  Cry  LOL

1699  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | CPU only | NO PREMINE on: February 08, 2014, 02:10:35 AM
This coin still needs a nice large community mining them though.  That Max guy has tens if not hundreds of thousands of people mining!  I just hope the old adage slow and steady wins the race will actually ring true!  I'm not going to blame the max guy or his coin designers/creators completely, though they  should have realized they  had lots of free advertisement apparently, so they should have planned this out better.  Unless the comments people are making are true, and they created chaos and mined up a fortune of coins after launch (only if people really buy them).  I hope people don't end up losing lots of real money to a scam Sad
1700  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | CPU only | NO PREMINE on: February 07, 2014, 09:10:46 PM
sorry, but as I understand it, there is virtually no support for 32 bit systems because they perform so poorly.  What I would do is install 64 bit Ubuntu if your hardware can run it and run a miner that way.

If you do, don't let it update!!!  I lost like two hours again yesterday because an update messed up my gnome GRRR!!!

So anyways,  I checked out that MaxCoin, seems it's been given a lot of hype.  The comments from frustrated miners were quite funny.  I'm sure every launch is rough but this one seems to have hundreds of pages of rants, LOL. So I was wondering what the true innovations were with this coin?  Is it because he used a cpu algorithm (that he named after himself,LOL) Huh  That seems the only "new" thing and is hardly innovative, especially since our  eduffield has come up with a more difficult combination of 11 algorithms PLUS an almost finished and proven able to obscure the where and what of each transaction in the wallet, not using some website or service giving the user true privacy.

I like that eduffield is so low key, seems like a quiet little go-getter with a touch of ADD, LOL, love ya kid, I think you'll be well known someday, and doubt you want the attention, LOL
