1681  Economy / Gambling / Re: What if bitcointalk creates a casino review and ratings board for members. on: March 10, 2023, 06:01:23 AM
Threads with reviews like this, can be manipulated by the competition. It does not take a lot of effort to create "dummy" accounts to attack the reputation of their competition. Alt accounts can be bought with little effort and a thread like that can be derailed by these accounts.  Roll Eyes

We have a scam accusation section on this forum, where we deal with "dark" operators... and I think it is quite affective to sort out most of these issues.  Wink  False accusations are pulled apart in that section, so the chance for manipulation are smaller, because it is focused on that.
1682  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-22] Bitcoin Core Developer Marco Falke Steps Down From Maintainer Role on: March 10, 2023, 05:52:52 AM
I think a lot of these Bitcoin developers are bored with the project... because it is mature and secure and there are not a lot of challenges to keep them busy. Yes, it is a huge responsibility and an honor to work for the strongest token, but after a while the novelty of that wears off and they start looking for other opportunities to stimulate them.

We see a lot of them being targeted by CW and also some governments, so it must take a toll on them. Let's appreciate their commitment to this experiment and wish them the best in their endeavors.  Wink
1683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Ponzi Schemes - People are confused. on: March 10, 2023, 05:32:56 AM
I started this thread with a clear purpose, which is to highlight the fact that Ponzi schemes found Bitcoin and now they are using Bitcoin as a payment option to run this. They used Fiat currencies and the Banking system before, but now they found a pseudo anonymous method to run these criminal activities.

The people who fall for these Ponzi schemes, burn their fingers and a lot of them do not understand that they were part of a Ponzi scheme.... they think this Ponzi scheme is what Bitcoin is. So they tell everyone around them that they lost money on "Bitcoin"...which is not true.

Do you think people who lost money in previous Ponzi schemes, blamed "cash" or their "Credit or debit card" that they used to make payments to those Ponzi schemes? We should educate the public on what Ponzi schemes are ...and what Bitcoin is... and that Bitcoin payments to Ponzi schemes are the same as any other payment option that are used to pay these criminals.  Roll Eyes
1684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Wrong Bets !!! on: March 09, 2023, 06:28:27 AM
Yes, about two weeks ago.. I took part in one of the Stake.com challenges and it was time sensitive. So I picked one of the less known Slots and quickly configured my "auto" bets for turbo bets with $0.40 bets.

I did not notice that I accidentally clicked $40.00 instead of $0.40 and my balance was gone in a few seconds. So, even if I win the challenge 100 times in the future, I would not break even on my losses due to this.

I nearly lost a phone too..... because I was just about to throw it against the wall.... but fortunately the mouse was closer.  Tongue
1685  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: New casino "BonusBlitz.com" review had to dispute and annoy for withdrawal on: March 09, 2023, 06:15:56 AM
I think these startup casinos have a very small Bankroll and they design these bonuses so that it is almost impossible for you to get "free" money, but when you actually hit the rollover requirement, they get agitated and they try "cheap" tricks to avoid paying out the money.

You stuck with your guns and you eventually got your money, but not just that.... you highlighted another dodgy operator that can actually frustrate customers in the future.

Thank you for sharing your experience.  Wink
1686  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-24] CNBC -For the Black community, bitcoin represents an opportunity... on: March 09, 2023, 05:56:31 AM
I have a pet hate in all these things where they want to involve race to make more money. In my country it is all about race, everywhere you go...and if you dig a little bit deeper, you will find that it is not about the race, but rather about the money.

I am no racist, because I have several black friends and even black family members... but even they agree that this "Black lives matters" thing are being used for marketing to profit from the cause.

Bitcoin should never be exploited for profit, based on the color of your skin.  Angry
1687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin and Ponzi Schemes - People are confused. on: March 09, 2023, 05:38:57 AM
I watch a popular breakfast show every morning and they always have a section where they talk about money matters. Yesterday, they talked about Crypto currencies and the guest mentioned several Ponzi schemes where Bitcoin was used as a payment option.

These Ponzi schemes collapsed and according to him ....many people lost money in Bitcoin. They have a WhatsApp group for the program and I immediately corrected that statement, because people did not lose money in Bitcoin.... they lost money in a Ponzi scheme that used Bitcoin as a payment option.

Now, this does not sound very important, but it actually are one of the most critical things that needs to be addressed. We should counter all of these misinformed people, with education on what Bitcoin is, because they lose money on Ponzi schemes and then they blame it on Bitcoin.
1688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some superior aspects of Bitcoin over Banks we overlook. on: March 09, 2023, 05:31:04 AM
Also, when you deal with Banks.. you deal with people. Now as you know, it is not a pleasant experience to visit a Bank, because you are already frustrated when you had to stand in a queue at a Bank for 1 hour, before they help you.... then you have to deal with the Bank employee that are tired or in a bad mood.  Roll Eyes

The human element are removed from Bitcoin transactions, because it's all automated. You become your own Bank, so you do not need to deal with people. (or ask permission to access your wealth)  Wink

Some transactions in Banks can also be reversed... (Credit cards) ....where no transactions can be reversed with Bitcoin.  Tongue
1689  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: where the losed money goes? on: March 08, 2023, 06:46:01 AM
The casino sign a contract with third party game providers to configure a fixed house edge for their games, so no matter what happens, they are guaranteed to get that income from those games. Some of the Slot providers give the casinos a choice on several RTP (Return to Player) configurations, so the casino can pick a low or higher RTP. (Example : Hacksaw Games)

Then a lot of these online casinos have their own in-house games, where they configure the RTP on the games. The majority of the money gambled, will go back to the players... and the casino take their cut, but they have to use that income to pay for salaries and to pay for marketing and promotions ..etc..etc.

It is a business.. after all, so it has to make money to pay for it's expenses.  Wink
1690  Economy / Gambling / Re: they are scamming us? on: March 08, 2023, 05:59:14 AM
They are not scamming and actually the terms and condition will help you to understand how their business work. Gambling is a business. It’s normal that they will want profit from customers money by means of loss. They don’t need to do this shitty algorithms to scam players just to have a profit because they already have the house edge on all of the games which guarantee their win in the long run. They just need a good marketing and promotion to let player stay in the casino.

I watch this video long time ago. He might telling the truth about the casino he is working before but there’s no assurance that other casino is doing it too. Gambling doesn’t promise any profit at all that’s why casino always say to bet responsibly.

They actually do not need a "shitty algorithm" to cheat you, because they are in control of the configuration of the RTP for most of their in-house games. Just go to many of these Crypto casinos and you will find that they have a fixed house edge for these games, but we have tried to test those numbers and it is clear that it is not fixed.

They show you a piece of text that says "House edge = 1%" .....but they continuously change it slightly to balance their books. You also have third party Slots like Hacksaw games .... that offers casinos several different options for the RTP, so it is not a fixed house edge on those games.  Roll Eyes
1691  Economy / Economics / Re: The cost of living is trying to kill the living on: March 08, 2023, 05:50:43 AM
The government are actually forced to act in the way that they are acting, because the global economy took a knock from the impact of Covid and also the impact of the war between Russia and the Ukraine.

The thing is... when the economy are struggling, tax income also go down... so that means less money that can be spend on increased wages for civil servants. So now you have two things trying to kill the middle class and poor people.... namely : Higher inflation and wages that are not increasing.  Roll Eyes
1692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My arguement with a friend who likes POS instead of POW. on: March 08, 2023, 05:38:01 AM
You know that Bitcoin was designed by Satoshi Nakamoto to replace the Block reward with the miners fees as reward in the future ...right? The amount of transactions are supposed to grow and the miners fees with that, so that it is large enough for miners to compete for it in the future.

So, we are hoping that enough use cases are implemented that the amount of transactions will be enough to generate more than generous miners fee, for mining to be sustainable.

Also, as the competition for the Block reward decrease... the difficulty are adjusted, so less hashing power will be needed to compete for the miners fees. (Large mining farms might exit the scene.. and GPU mining might even come back)  Wink
1693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin can't be robbed on: March 08, 2023, 05:27:31 AM
The average thief does not have a clue what Bitcoin is, they might think it is actual physical coins or they might think those ATMs function in the same way that Fiat ATMs function. So for them it is a little box full of cash....  Grin

I am actually surprised that this is not happening a lot more, which might show that the robbers are getting educated about Bitcoin now, so we can actually use this as a positive marketing angle for Bitcoin ATM use.  Wink
1694  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: March 07, 2023, 06:17:37 AM
I watched a documentary on Kamala Harris and I truly think that she would make a better president than Biden, but I do not think the US are ready for a female president.  Roll Eyes

I would like to see a clash between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence for the next presidential election.... and Trump should go back to celebrity TV shows, where he is better equip to blow his own horn.  Roll Eyes

The rush on the US Capital and Trump's contribution to that, should never be forgotten, even if he were acquitted from that.  Roll Eyes
1695  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com - The Leading Crypto Casino - 🦉 Drake, UFC, Everton Main Partner ⚽ 🥊 on: March 07, 2023, 05:52:43 AM
A question to Stunna and the Stake team.
A forum member alertoriole claims to have had his Stake account hacked and the hackers stole 165k in USDT from him. That's obviously not your fault, and you can't be blamed for players not securing their accounts.

However, the player claims that the 2FA on Stake can be deactivated without requiring the person to input a 2FA code to confirm the deactivation. Is that true and why is that possible in the first place? Can other Stake players confirm if that's true or not? Not only that, but the player's money was allegedly sent to other accounts in the form of tips. We are talking about tens of thousands of dollars. How can it be that such transactions don't sound any alarms on your end and you don't investigate what's going on?

The topic in question is Hacked for 165k STAKE.COM.

Any official stance from Stake and their team on all this?

to confirm, they have updated it a day after my money was stolen, they now send an email when 2fa is deactivated. Doesn't help me or anyone stolen from before but I guess it makes it harder for future theft.

I have not tested it yet, but do you know if they have checks in place to change your email address? It happens that people switch from one email provider to the next, so I reckon Stake has some serious verification in place to stop someone from changing the email address... right?

I have to give credit..where it is due.... Stake reacted very quickly when this exploit was exposed, so it is a thumbs up from me for that. (You will see that I suggested a similar email verification here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5440588.0) .... but unfortunately it was too late for you.  Sad
1696  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-03-01] Forbes - The Nigerian Election And Naira Crisis Are Fueling Bitcoin on: March 07, 2023, 05:41:50 AM
There are currently two technologies that are being used as alternative payment options in Nigeria, namely Bitcoin and MPesa. The one is centralized and the other decentralized... so it might help, if someone could educate those people on which one should be the best.

The danger of centralized technologies like MPesa are that the new government can block transactions over Cellphone providers, but they cannot do that with Bitcoin transactions. (Where would you rather keep your wealth in uncertain political situations like this?)
1697  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Education is the key but knowledge is padlock on: March 07, 2023, 05:36:03 AM
I am very sorry to hear that a friend was willing to misinform you and not just that, but also to steal from you. I had friends that wanted to introduce me to Ponzi Schemes that were linked to Bitcoin and I denied.... I fired up Google and I started to research into those schemes and I realized that they were Ponzi schemes, so I warned them.

They did not listen to me ...and eventually lost all their money and now they blame Bitcoin and they hate it. We should not listen to friends for financial advice, but should rather do our own research.  Wink
1698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you could design Bitcoin from scratch today... on: March 07, 2023, 05:27:31 AM
Well, I would have wanted SegWit to be part of the original protocol, so that we did not have all the fighting over a congested Blockchain and also some more focus on Smart contracts.

I think Ethereum wiggled it self into the Bitcoin space, because it looked for a weakness in the Bitcoin uses and it redesigned it's use case to fill those gaps. We should have been prepared for that, with better code and also effortless solutions to cover those use cases.  Roll Eyes
1699  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S. Lawmakers Reintroduce Bill to Force Crypto Miners to Disclose Emissions on: March 06, 2023, 04:48:43 PM
It is about time that comparisons be made between the energy that Crypto mining are using and the amount of energy that are wasted on the financial industry (Banks & Financial institutions)

We know each Bank branch has several air-conditioning units and ATMs that are running 24/7 and also computers and CCTV and lights.. and large armored vehicles to transport cash..... have they disclosed their emissions?
1700  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Gambling earn someone a living on: March 06, 2023, 04:40:34 PM
One can earn a living through gambling but the level of the standard of living he gets from it determines how much he has given in gambling, also how versatile he is in doing that, there are many prospects that comes in with gambling and if having a combination of two or more can help in maintenance of one's self and living a normal life, not until you gambles alone before you make a living in gambling, you can have something you offer as service rendered or work under a gambling casino or organizations and get paid or a regular basis.

No, he is not asking if you work for a casino or a Sports betting site that involves gambling ....he means if you are a gambler, would you then be able to make a living from gambling.

I know not every person can understand English very well, so you might not have understood the question. Professional Poker players and Sports betting are your best bet to make a living from gambling.  Wink
