1681  Economy / Economics / Re: What will you do if bitcoin crash? on: February 17, 2023, 01:50:48 AM
Just like with any asset I own, if it were in fact to “shoot” it’s way all the way down to zero, I would be fine. I would be fine because I understand the importance of diversification. Bitcoin is also far too volatile to hold too much of one’s assets in, as you need a well rounded portfolio.  Not to mention Bitcoin inherently isn’t even an investment, it’s a virtual currency/commodity.
1682  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advantage of holding Bitcoin in time of crisis on: February 17, 2023, 01:47:10 AM
The global economy is facing a crisis of inflation and other internal financial crisis, such as what we are witnessing right now with recent bad occurrences around the world in Turkey and Syria a lot of people have been mad homeless and government infrastructures such as banks have been destroyed as a result of the earthquake and other natural and man made disasters that has happened in various regions.

This situation has forced many into financial hardship and the unavailability of financial institutions and services, in fact in some countries a lot of financial crisis is currently being experienced.

With most depositors no longer have access to their money through to the high centralization of the financial institutions leaving all the power over their finances in the hand of the central banks.

This crisis has forced many to start looking for an alternative way to save the money, and bitcoin is the best store of value at this point, with Bitcoin, you have total control over your finances and Bitcoin help to reduce the bank to becoming just a Junction or bus stops were our money can just pass through to carry out a transaction or exchange aside from that.

Bitcoin is the best alternative way to save money, with Bitcoin you have control over your savings because it's your wallet and your key and you are your banks!

I think it’s important you point out that this isn’t necessarily the case for everyone in the world. There are some places where people have plenty of access to funds in their bank accounts. I do agree though that for many nations owning bitcoin provides a level of financial freedom that they may otherwise not have access to.  Governments can’t stop bitcoin, plain and simple.
1683  Economy / Economics / Re: Can one achieve financial independence through crypto currency? on: February 16, 2023, 01:47:30 AM
I think you need to be a bit more specific with what you mean exactly by "can one achieve financial independence through crypto currency"?  Are you asking if you can get rich by owning bitcoin/cryptocurrency, or are you asking if bitcoin and other cryptocurrency coins can "take over" traditional forms of payments and systems such as fiat money and banks.  I'm just a bit confused exactly what you mean by that question.
1684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Extremely Holding on: February 16, 2023, 01:42:31 AM
I have seen stories of dormant wallets coming to life like this from time to time.  Sometimes I think it's just lost wallets that have been found, sometimes it's people who truly had been holding that long out of pure will, etc.  Either way I think it's important to know it's smart to hold, have strong hands, but that goes for all investments.  I personally think it's important to spend bitcoin too.  Help out with it's ecosystem.
1685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: February 16, 2023, 01:39:30 AM
I put a few satoshis down on the Chicago Bulls defeating the Indy Pacers, who were favored to win the game at -2.5 points.  The Bulls have dropped like 4 or 5 straight, so it's nice to see them play really well, at least so far tonight especially without Demar DeRozan playing in this game.

Nice seeing contributions from Coby White and Ayo Dosunmo, they've really stepped up tonight in the absence of DeRozan.
1686  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Choosing between your relationship and gambling. on: February 16, 2023, 01:34:03 AM
I can understand her position, having a brother who was addicted to gambling who lost a bunch of his possessions because of it, she simply seems to care for him and doesn't want him to end up going down that same road.  On the other hand he's a responsible gambler (like myself, I would never let myself gamble more than I'm willing to lose, I'm just fortunate that way) so I can understand his viewpoint of being like "hey I'm a responsible gambler, it's not effected anything in our relationship to this point etc etc" but at the end of the day if he really loves her, it's probably not worth gambling if it would make her happy.  I'd give it up for the right girl, personally.
1687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin gambling problem on: February 16, 2023, 01:29:15 AM
I appreciate you taking the time to share this information.  There is certainly no harm in admitting to yourself that you have an issue (if you do in fact have a gambling issue) and that you need help addressing it.  I've got a couple friends who were in really bad gambling debt, and just couldn't quit gambling.  They ended up reaching out to programs like this and it changed their lives for the better.
1688  Economy / Economics / Re: Untouchable Savings: Do you have it? on: February 14, 2023, 11:14:14 PM
That twitter post is funny.  I don't actually belive it, but I understand the point they are trying to get across.  The way I see it, you should save more than most, but don't be afraid to live your life, at least a little bit.  It of course all comes down to whether you're on track for retirement or not...that should then dictate if you need to ramp up saving, or can have a little more fun and life and spend a bit more money, or be a bit more risky with it.

It's all about diversification and being on track for the day you decide to "hang it up".  Do you calculations, make a plan and stick to it.
1689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else getting deflated with the bitcoin naysayers? on: February 14, 2023, 11:10:36 PM
I try and not let peoples lack of financial awareness/intelligence get me down and deflated.  As a financial advisor I'm constantly dealing with people who have no idea what they're doing or talking about when it comes to all things finance, including bitcoin, but all you can do is educate.  Put them to the task.  Ask them "why do you feel this way?"  Or ask them to explain things such as the blockchain.. (the vast majority of people who are bitcoin naysayers can't even explain what a blockchain is.  So yeah, just push back and educate is my advice.
1690  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NFL Sportsbet.io discussion & predications thread rev on: February 14, 2023, 11:04:33 PM
What a game. The first half went about as I’d expected the game to go. That second half thought… The Chiefs were possessed. They weren’t going to let this one get away from them. Their offense was scoring every time they touched the ball. Can’t take anything away from them. The Chiefs went out and performed and won the game. No controversy, just good football. Until next year…

Was a really good game.  Some might like to say there's a litter controversy with the holding call late in the game, but even the defender admitted that he held him, so there shouldn't be any controversy, and you're right..Chiefs won fair and square.  I put my money on Mahomes.  The way I see it, I used to get burned pretty much every time I bet against Brady, I feel the same about Mahomes going  forward. The man is too unbelievably good. ( and the Bears could have drafted him  Roll Eyes )
1691  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: February 14, 2023, 10:52:06 PM
5 games later guys. Place your picks!

Milwaukee Bucks - Boston Celtics - Milwaukee Bucks (-7.5) I don't want to underestimate the Boston Celtics by too much so I didn't take the -10.5 for the Bucks. So many questionable players on the Celtics roster but there's a chance someone will step up his game and cling to a close game. Giannis is also probable to play.

Phoenix Suns - Sacramento Kings - Sacramento Kings ML Kings all the way!  Cheesy Malik Monk is out due to what happened at their last game against the Mavericks, very bad fall. KD won't be playing until the All-Star so let's not expect his debut for the last 2 games of the Suns.

Portland Trail Blazers - Washington Wizards - Portland Trail Blazers (-4.5) Portland is now better defensively with the addition of Matisse Thybulle so Simons and Dame can focus on the offensive end. Jerami Grant is probable to play. No updates yet if Kyle Kuzma will play.

Good luck everyone.

I've got like $27 dollars worth of betting that I have to make in order to fully cash out my current balance at one of my online casino accounts, so I'm trying to pick between one of these games and I think you make some good points above, so I'll be choosing one of your picks ( I hope you know your stuff lol).  I was thinking of betting on the Suns, but the information you listed above helps with that decision now ( going with the Kings too).  Thx and good luck to us.

This is pretty funny..

"Super Bowl champion Juju Smith-Schuster had the most savage Valentine's Day post. He wrote, "Happy Valentine's Day, everybody" with a card that said, "I'll hold you when it matters most" and a photo of Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry.

The card is in reference to Bradberry's holding call in the final minutes of the Super Bowl that gave the Chiefs a first down following a third-down incompletion in the red zone. The game was tied at the time, and the first down allowed Kansas City to all but run out the clock before kicking the game-winning field goal to secure its second Super Bowl in three years"- https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/look-juju-smith-schuster-trolls-james-bradberry-with-savage-valentines-day-card-a-j-brown-fires-back/
1693  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC Silver and Gold on: February 14, 2023, 01:04:23 AM
Stacking and coin collecting is for complete nerds  Cheesy  You already know how I feel about this topic.  As a financial advisor my clients are constantly asking me if they should consider buying either bitcoin or gold or bitcoin or silver.  So I'm constantly having to have that conversation of the importance of diversification  and why owning both makes sense, and how well precious metals like gold and silver hold up as hedging parts of a portfolio.

A few ounces of gold. I personally thinking that if precious metal should not become my main investment. Precious metal is even better compared with real estate consider it's even more liquid compared with real estate. Precious metal like gold is as good as bitcoin.

The gold itself was only a way to keep your value from inflation. It will not give you huge ROI like bitcoin. Precious metal is only helping you to make sure your value will not be eaten by inflation.

https://goldprice.org/gold-price-chart.html

"I personally thinking that if precious metal should not become my main investment".  It definitely shouldn't.  It should only be a piece of the pie, so to speak.  Almost any proper portfolio (exception apply) should mainly be supported by traditional equity investments such as mutual funds/ETFs etc.

Gold also isn't necessarily better than real estate. They are two different types of assets. Real Estate has often carries a higher chance for growth, whether investing directly or indirectly such as in products/funds like REITS.

1694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people don't adopt Bitcoin - they don't understand Expected Value on: February 14, 2023, 01:00:07 AM
I absolutely agree with your assessment here.  The fact of the matter is the vast majority of people are simply uneducated.  Not only are the majority of people on earth uneducated, they are extremely uneducated in terms of financial knowledge.  As a financial adivsor I see this every single day.  People refuse to take the time to educate themselves and therefore don't understand the truths when it comes to all forms of investing, including buying/owning bitcoin. People refuse to take the time to learn even the basics, like what's a blockchain.  It's obnoxious but all you can do is try and educate.
1695  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling safer than before ? on: February 14, 2023, 12:55:20 AM
In my opinion gambling is almost assuredly safer now than it was in the past, however I believe it would be based on your location on earth when it comes down to it.   Some countries, like the United States, are legalzing gambling in big ways, across many different "sectors".  By legalizing so much, there's less "black market" gambling/bookies etc..which lead to more dangerous situations.  By legalizing they are cutting out a lot of that crime that no longer persists due to being cut out of the business. You could potentially live in a country that's become less or more "safe", just depending on your government structure.. some gov's have become more progressive, others the opposite.
1696  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: February 14, 2023, 12:50:21 AM
What do you guys think about the whole Chicago Bull situation.  Were they stupid to stand pat and not make any trades? Do you think that they should literally consider trading Lavine? At this point he's the only mid to long term option that's set in stone, so for me I think it would have made sense to deal DeRozan and Vuc perhaps.  Who the hell knows when Ball will be back, if ever. Frustrating season for my club.
1697  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 14, 2023, 12:47:27 AM
I echo a lot of what the rest of you are saying.  I think it was a really good/entertaining game overall.  Yeah there was that ticky-tac call there in the end that was certainly a major deal, but technically it was the right call so ...of course I am biased, as I put some bitcoin down on the Chiefs at +1.  I knew that the over was the right call as well but I was running late to the SB party I was attending and by the time I sat down and had the chance to place a bet on the over it bumped up from 50 to 55 and thought that might be a bad bet at that point...I was sure wrong.

Now depression sits in where there's no NFL football for a shit ton of months Sad

Thanks again everyone for a hugely successful pumpkin carving contest/event. It had it’s ups and downs but overall I agree it was a big success so I look forward to running it again next year (or perhaps a version of it).

Anyways, agreed, time to lock this thread. But just wanted to give everyone a final thank you. See ya guys next year !

I’ve asked about the first Twitter statement here before but not sure I’ve been given a definitive answer. So my question for you Mr Robots in here ..are either of these statements by CW true at all..do they prove he’s lying…Or perhaps neither?

When I asked him this on Twitter I figured it proved he’s lying but perhaps this statement simply means btc was built to be programmable in a way that would allow for SC’s to run on it ..eventually?

Szabo says btc isn’t Turing complete (have seen Andreas say the same)..so doesn’t this prove he’s not Satoshi ?
