someone around here once asked me why i place so much emphasis on tying together Bitcoin with the external economy and broader markets.  after today, any questions?

its ok.  double bottoms are not uncommon.  the blockchain marches on.

RISK ON!  LOL

Any day now the money is going to come pouring in, you'll see, you'll see...

Yes all those investors just sitting around waiting for the right moment to dump millions into bitcoins.  Reminds me of that hilarious post cypher made earlier in this thread.

Quote
i can easily see professional investors looking over the table:

Q:  whats this over here, Bitcoin?  i thought it was done?

A:  no, still hanging around.

Q:  didn't it get hacked?

A:  the exchange did but the source code didn't.

Q:  is Gavin still around?

A:  yes.

Q:  how about those other guys, Stefan Thomas, Amir Taaki, and Jeff Garzik?

A:  they're still there too.

Q:  God, i thought they would've given up by now if Bitcoin really was a ponzi.

A:  nope.

Q:  any improvements in security?

A:  tons.  consumers are now protected by encryption and mtgox hasn't suffered another attack.

Q:  really?  how much is it now?

A:  $2

Q:  you're kidding.  didn't you say it acts like gold?  a limited supply?

A:  yes

Q:  well, our gold/silver plays aren't doing so well.

A:  lets pour a few million into Bitcoin.  its oversold and maybe we can get a short squeeze going.

ANY DAY GUYS THINK POSITIVE!

That day is here.

I can't hear you.

Apologies (again) for (yet more) downtime! I've recently moved the servers location, so the service should be a lot faster, and (hopefully) more reliable!

Unfortunately the coins I added when first switching the server back on sold out very quickly - but it's now back up with a larger balance - enjoy!

was wondering what the heck happened to you.  welcome back.
16888  Economy / Marketplace / Re: This is why Bitcoinica users must wait in line for withdrawals on: November 30, 2011, 05:23:57 AM
this is a real liquidity problem for Bitcoinica users and for Zhoutong.

They have all sorts of interesting things in the works.

care to elaborate?

i leave 4 separate clients open and i don't even mine.  i do it for philosophical reasons to "help" the network.  doesn't cost me anything.
Everything costs something!

If bitcoin becomes fully fledged monetary system things like enthusiasm, altruism, philanthropy and philosophy will not be enough to secure its future! After all, it is about money! All tricks will be used both technically and economically to game the system and abuse it. Every expense that is possible to avoid paying will not be paid by participating agents in the network! There is no doubt about that... The big question here is whether all those avoidable expenses are fundamental incentives to keep bicoin network running?

maybe i should frame it differently.  i also have an economic incentive to leave my computers on to support the network.  i have a substantial investment in Bitcoin as do many others who compose the network.  its about taking care of one's money.  you don't just leave it out on the front lawn for anyone to take.  you build a safe in a remote area of your house and fortify it to the extent you feel comfortable.  you may buy a few guns also just in case.  it may cost me a few cents to keep those computers on but i want to take care of my money!

I don't think of the Bitcoin client as simply a way to spend Bitcoin, even though that's about all it is at the moment. I think of my computers as machines for (sometimes monkey) business. If you want a productive business, you find ways to keep your machinery running 24/7. I think that will be the goal of software designers to craft tools using Bitcoin to stay on making money. I'm not talking about mining, but real world businesses that will depend on a robust Bitcoin network.

[edit]
I wouldn't be surprised if M$, Google, Facebook, Mozilla, Apple, (pardon my bias) etc. doesn't have NDAs regarding major development for BTC based apps. I can't imagine big ballers not creating Open Transaction servers, microtransactions, anti-spam postage based email, deed of title apps, escrow based courier services, and probably hundreds of other unique products and services that take advantage of Bitcoin's unique properties.

very, very interesting insight.  i hadn't thought about that.  if we are all so fascinated by this technology, how could the big boys not be?  i know of several PhD mathematicians, computer geeks, and economists who are fascinated with Bitcoin and these are precisely the type of ppl who'd be employed by these large players.  if they're smart they would be getting ready for the snowball effect.

i've taken down the Trading Forum for lack of interest and am no longer offering subscriptions.  in retrospect, melbustus was correct in that this Forum didn't translate well to profit altho i probably should've given it more time.

i've also taken down the About Us page since its now not necessary and also eliminated the self promotional stuff.  FRA has now become a pure Daily Blog where i can post my thoughts and ideas.

its much better this way in that there is no pressure to perform from an investment advice perspective when you're accepting ppl's money.  investing is a highly personal process and you can't make a horse drink even after you've lead him to the water of a perfect investment.

the good news is that the readership HAS translated well and i'm getting over 500+ unique ip visitors per day and more in page views now in just the week that i've opened the site.  this is plenty enough validation for my new project as i really do this more out of passion and a dedication to finance, investment, and Bitcoin.  it also allows me to post my thoughts freely w/o getting spammed by every flamer here on this forum.

i did put up a Donate page for anyone caring to support my efforts.

thanks for following and i'll continue to work hard!

I don't understand the emphasis on Fibonacci's "magic number." Phi applies mainly to static or correlative (not causative) relationships. Correlative in the sense of long term evolutionary relationships like the Tasmanian Wolf and Timber Wolf. PI is more significant in dynamic relationships like streams turning to lakes. Understanding fractals in complex systems requires multidimensional analysis that hasn't even been invented yet.

i don't understand it either.  but so many ppl use them, it often is a self fulfilling prophesy.

It has a good look and flows nicely.

You should try Serif WebPlus X5. Not quite as easy as Weebly but much more feature rich.

i might have to look at that.  Weebly is very buggy and i'm already getting a little tired of it.  you get what you pay for.
16895  Economy / Speculation / Re: In Your Face America on: November 24, 2011, 07:07:56 AM
Nice! Did you set that site up cypherdoc?

yeah.  Weebly is easy.

16897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Frustration with Investors- Why is it so hard to take Bitcoin mainstream? on: November 23, 2011, 09:18:57 PM
I am not a fan of GLBSE.  its the Wild West and i have lost money on 2 companies there:  SIN and UBX.

everything is slanted in favor of the companies so in that sense you'd have a huge advantage.  downside is anyone with any real money won't invest via GLBSE b/c everything is so loose and Nefario takes NO responsibility for the companies he lets in the doors; which is basically anybody.

you're better off relying on your traditional investors/contacts whom you already have a relationship.

i've come to the conclusion that for buyers to adopt Bitcoin, we need to have more brick and mortar merchant sellers.

this way buyers can get their hands on the merchandise before they send their Bitcoins.  the flip side of this is that brick and mortar merchants will be the most likely to succeed with Bitcoin.
