1701  Economy / Speculation / Re: Demand, fundamentals, or speculation on: August 26, 2011, 08:37:42 PM
It's run by pure speculation.

I have been watching for months now and have come to the conclusion that this market is even more illogical than what we see on the Dow.
1702  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here we go again, another major price drop for bitcoins on: August 26, 2011, 08:36:16 PM
Its been pretty stable for over a month now, sitting around 10 to 11 bux even during the weekend down time.  Now its pretty quickly dropped to 8 bux a coin.  So how low we going this time.  I bought a bunch when it hit 9 today, now wish I would have waited of course.  Problem is, if bitcoin keeps freaking going from 11 to 7, to 12, to 8 back and forth its just making it harder and harder for there to be a strong bitcoin economy.  Sellers are not going to want to sell products and services for something that changes its value so dramatically and so quickly.  We need to fix that somehow, it has to stabilize even if its at 5 bux a coin, it just has to be stable withing a dollar for there to ever be any future economy for bitcoin, or at least thats how I feel.
The more it swings, the more it will attract day traders.

They will eventually stabilize the economy because eventually they will cancel each others trades out, making manipulation much harder.

Well the joke may be on you then! Their network is exploding...

hee, the network exploding would not be a good thing, think you mean the trading is.

The network exploding IS a good thing... That means the miners are taking SolidCoin pretty seriously.

1706  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is it to store a KeePassX file on dropbox? on: August 26, 2011, 08:00:52 PM
Just keep your damn coins stored offline in a USB. What is so hard about that?
Nice, so if the usb die, you lose everything.

An encrypted file is SAFE if you encrypt it in the right way and use a good password.

Then you can upload it everywhere, dropbox, email, skydrive or whatelse and then you won't lose it.

KeePass encrypted file should be safe if you use a good password, that's the whole point of keepass after all, having an encrypted database. So you should be safe putting it on dropbox, even if someone steal it they won't be able to decrypt it
You can save it to 2 different USB'S if you are superstitious about it breaking. Sure good encryption is important, but you are only setting yourself up for failure when you are putting your money in the hands of other people...

Just my honest opinion...

Notice how the only people who have a problem with me banning people are the same people would be the ones catching that ban  Cheesy.

Such a joke.
Kind of like how the only people who had a problem with Nazis killing people were the people being killed.
Where did that reference come from SGT lol. If anything they are the Nazis seeking to destroy and conquer.
If they succeed in killing this forum because of relaxed regulations then that's fine it was meant to happen this way.
We still got a chance to fight back though, most of the people I have been talking to are growing tired, and if ban hammers can't go down in this site, they sure as hell will go down in the 20 other Bitcoin community's.
Regardless they will never kill Bitcoin (which is what they ultimately want) and thankfully it will never happen. This forum is obviously not vital to Bitcoins growth, but it is becoming increasingly annoying to have any valid discussions without having some clown trying derail/troll the thread into oblivion.

No crashes here...
What operating system are you using?

I am using Windows 7 with all latest updates and protection running in the background. Everything works perfect except for the crashing when I try to close.

Perhaps you could ring the helpdesk?  Grin
Ahh they have an IRC. I will just wait for the next release, hopefully it will have that little bug fixed. It only does it when I'm trying to close anyways so it's not a big deal. Other than that the program looks solid, and I take back my statement about this being a scam. I don't know what the future holds for SC, and at the moment it seems like a bullish investment, but remember Bitcoins are 100% guaranteed for many different reasons. These coins are still untested and highly speculative, however with that being said credit must be given where credit is due. They have created a good bi-product, with the single most important element being faster difficulty adjustments. This improvement alone could change the game as we know it...

1718  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold bubble! GOLD BUBBLE!!! SELL SELL SELL!!! on: August 26, 2011, 11:28:54 AM
+1 for last two posts. One would have to be out of their minds to think there is a gold bubble at the moment. Gold is highly valued because the monetary crisis going on all over the world and there are no signs of it getting better in the short term.

And to be honest, gold value is not really that high yet. The inflation-corrected value of gold has been higher and I think we will most certainly reach $2000+ this year and probably $2500+ at some point next year.

Gold is already recovering very fast from the retracement.
Gold is highly valuable because Glen Beck says so! And Glen Becks always right god dammit!  Cheesy
1719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Several people trying to trademark Bitcoin in Europe (reminder) on: August 26, 2011, 11:18:18 AM
Just because a company gets a trademark or patent, it doesn't necessarily mean it's worth anything. Anyone who trademarks Bitcoin and tries to prevent 'bitcoincharts.com' or 'spendbitcoins.com' from using it is going to quickly have their trademark made worthless by the courts.
Yes it will be the same situation with Twitter and Tweet. Twitter tried to trademark the keyword tweet even though it was a user created keyword. They tried to take it to court, and lost embarrassingly. Now all the tweet domains have skyrocketed  Cool.

1720  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do we bring the value of BitCoins back up? on: August 26, 2011, 10:43:15 AM
SilkRoad + Oxycontin = Current BTC value x3 Wink

Wasn't the big bump to over $25 USD/BTC was due to speculation of drug availability ?, we should embrace the subculture, as it directly benefits us.....lol
But it's stupid since all online transactions are traceable.
