17181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Microsoft now accepts Bitcoin to buy Xbox games and Windows apps on: August 11, 2015, 02:05:55 AM

However, the simple fact that they are accepting it would probably make some people adopt it. That was the case for me, I got into bitcoin when I noticed that a paid traffic exchange that I used was accepting it. It was like, Bitcoin? what is this? then I researched and ended using it.

Same can happen with this (I hope)

That can work with a minority of believers.

It really needs to get to a point where it's a no brainer for a consumer for it to be widely adopted. It also needs to be demonstrably better than existing options to nudge people into making the change.

Discounts would easily do it but margins are usually too tight for that to be sustainable or offer a big enough discount for a casual user to bother. 1-3% isn't going to be enough.

I guess brighter minds than mine will come up with something.

Whoever the seller is is a fuckin' amateur.

Here's the real deal - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Casascius-5BTC-Series-1-coin-fully-loaded-w-CoA-and-coin-capsule-not-Lealana-/221836951357?hash=item33a6833f3d

It's been pretty consistently up for sale for over 18 months. What the hell is wrong with people? Don't they recognise a bargain when they see it?
17183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 11, 2015, 12:13:36 AM
too many invalid proxy images, what is happening?

Something to do with Chartbuddy's hosting occasionally goes tits up. That's the most regular issue.

17185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you feel Bitcoin's 'leadership' lacks? on: August 11, 2015, 12:00:15 AM
Money. The folks at the top are not rich. Hence they are doing whatever can make them quick rich. Money is at the core of the Bitcoin QT vs XT controversy. Money was the core reason of TBF fallout.

I wonder. Many would've been around from the earliest days and might already be a bit too comfortable for their own good. I would've thought a bit more hunger would be of benefit.
17186  Economy / Speculation / Re: Winklevii are stalling Gemini until halving draws closer. on: August 10, 2015, 11:42:02 PM

As this appears to be speculation, allow me to propose another speculation. They are waiting for NY to approve their bitlicense application.

Does anybody have the knowledge of how long it took itbit to get their application approved for ETA comparison purposes?

I believe Itbit have a banking charter which is a different type of regulation and a much higher level than the bitlicence and one that already existed.

Not sure how long it took but it would've been a rigourous process and one that allows them to operate in all states. Maybe Gemini is going for something similar.
17187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What do you feel Bitcoin's 'leadership' lacks? on: August 10, 2015, 11:38:50 PM
Whether we like or not, there is a relatively select few who have a good amount of influence over the direction Bitcoin is taking.

Aside from consensus of course, what do you feel such folks could do with more of?
17188  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-08-10] Video: How to use digital currencies? (by a big spanish bank) on: August 10, 2015, 10:58:08 PM
Blockchain.info and dropbox? I think it's very cool that they've done it but that's a very retro and vulnerable bit of advice.
17189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Microsoft now accepts Bitcoin to buy Xbox games and Windows apps on: August 10, 2015, 10:55:02 PM

There is probably less demand in Europe to use it and Europe may not have things like bitpay to auto exchange the funds into fiat for the marketplace.

Coinbase and Bitpay are happily processing away payments in Europe. The EU probably has more friendly banking options than the US too. I don't get why so many companies haven't implemented payments there yet.
17190  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What happens to the BitLicense if everyone leaves NYC? on: August 10, 2015, 10:49:50 PM
NY is the home of financial heavyweights and that's what they want to attract and retain. If the bitlicence only leaves well-funded players then that'll probably warm the cockles of their hearts.
17191  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Banned bitcoin on: August 10, 2015, 10:06:33 PM
Bans look uncool. If a country wasn't into the idea all they have to do is strangle the fiat gateways. There'd still be a bit of activity but it would be greatly reduced.
17192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Winklevii are stalling Gemini until halving draws closer. on: August 10, 2015, 10:00:15 PM
They make fees whatever the price is doing. Why would you deny yourself the best part of a year's business? No doubt they're burning up a lot of cash and would like to get some back.
17193  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: how much can you make weekly? on: August 10, 2015, 09:55:47 PM

Talk about wage differences. In some African countries typical wage is 1 - 1.5 USD per hour. Most central and southern europeans earn 3-5 USD per hour. In Germany for instance you get maybe 10 USD per hour in a typical job.

And whatever your wage is and wherever you are the cost of living will balance out to eat up what you make in an average job. A friend went to Norway once and was so sickened by the prices for everything that they left in protest. The locals didn't seem to notice.
17194  Other / Off-topic / Re: DO YOU HAVE 1 BITCOIN? on: August 10, 2015, 09:43:48 PM

I mean it is very hard to believe to me that many hero members own only a bitcoin dust, I mean come on!

Being a hero member doesn't mean anything other than having stuck around and posted regularly for 18 months or more. Lots of broke ones out there who were either wiped out back in the day by varying scams, had a better developed gambling problem than the newcomers or didn't take it seriously.
17195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How Mine POS ? on: August 10, 2015, 12:49:38 PM
You gotta buy some POS coins and stake them. You might not make all that much though. There are occasionally giveaways of new coins and their faucets can be generous but don't plan on getting rich any time soon.
17196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How Mine POS ? on: August 10, 2015, 12:41:38 PM
There is no mining. That's the whole point. With most POS coins you earn fees from the transactions which is often linked to how many of the coins you hold.
17197  Other / Meta / Re: Am I the only 1 get this problem? on: August 10, 2015, 12:22:58 PM
Yup. I get it pretty regularly. Sometimes it's back with the next refresh, other times it'll take a few minutes or hours. This is nothing new. It's happened consistently since I've been lurking here.
17198  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 10, 2015, 12:18:58 PM

You claim that Bitpay doesn't buy or sell bitcoin, and that they don't hold accounts in name of clients. Read up, man up and admit you are wrong professor  Wink

The sun is likely to burn out before that occurs.
17199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DOWNLOAD: Bitcoin XT 0.11A is now released (bigger blocks support) on: August 10, 2015, 12:09:56 PM
Don't tell Theymos. This thread'll go straight into the altcoin forum.

That would be horrible, our posts count would be invalidated. ;')

Well, quelle surprise.
17200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: inflate bitcoin or keep 1MB cap. your decision on: August 10, 2015, 12:03:24 PM
I think BTC has a pretty narrow window of opportunity to address its problems before it becomes a dinosaur. There are plenty of very bright people busy learning what it's doing wrong and how to improve it while this community is frozen in bickering.

Many people involved in it have a wee perspective problem. They rarely realise that very few beyond their little puddle would give the slightest shit if it was usurped and died.

If the small blockers/ settlement network believers think that the rest of the world will be enchanted by a monetary system that costs them 0.1 BTC to send a smudge of change to another wallet then they need to leave their computers and go talk to real humans.
