1721  Economy / Economics / Re: I don't see this changing anytime soon on: February 04, 2023, 08:50:31 PM
The problem is that people tend to be very lazy about their finances and bitcoin is no exception. When the whole FTX thing went down, I had a couple buddies reach out to me about having their coins in Coinbase exchange wallets and asked whether they should keep them there any longer or not.  I told them all that they should move their coins to hardware wallets but yet still none of them have done this. So it just goes to show centralized exchanges are unfortunately probably not going away any time soon.
1722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoiners are not friendly physical? on: February 04, 2023, 08:27:55 PM
I can’t agree with this statement at all. In fact those of us who collect physical bitcoins in the collectibles section have had many in person meet-ups, and will continue to do so. I’ve made quite a few friends via bitcoin, and haven’t really experienced what you’re referring to at all. Perhaps you’ve just not met the right people, and spending a little more time here and around everyone you will.
1723  Economy / Speculation / Re: Enough? on: February 04, 2023, 08:25:17 PM
If owning any more bitcoin puts you in a position where you might get yourself in to financial trouble then I would say you’ve already figured out how much bitcoin that you yourself should own and have “at risk”. We all have to learn to only own as much as we are willing to lose for the most part when it comes to volatile investments. So if .1BTC is that amount, then that is what I would stick with.
1724  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are there gambling games/sports that suits a particular gender the more? on: February 04, 2023, 08:19:54 PM
As others have pointed out I don’t think there’s necessarily any games in which one sex/gender prefers to bet on or is better betting on that another. I think it just all depends on how much someone watches and engages in each specific sport.  I know a lot of girls who are really smart when it comes to male sports, despite the fact that they don’t play them.
1725  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 04, 2023, 08:16:59 PM
The final match between the Chiefs and the Eagles is just a few away.  I like Kansas if I have to choose who to root for even though my heart would have wanted the 49ers in this superbowl.  Who are you rooting for?  Are you happy with these teams that will compete?

I’m undecided who I’m going to root for / bet on. It all depends on how healthy Mahomes gets by the time the game comes next week. If he’s feeling like a full go at practice then I’m taking the chiefs, but I’m not sure if that’s even going to be possible in his condition. I’m happy with both these teams playing each other, I think it’s pretty representative of whom the best teams are for each division.
1726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin adoption growing stronger everyday on: February 03, 2023, 01:11:21 AM
I think that bitcoin is growing stronger in some ways, but as for mass adoption I think we still have a very long way to go.  After bitcoin came close to hitting 60,000, and then falling all way down to like 14,000 or 15,000 (can't remember) I think a lot of the people who bought it are non-finance people who know nothing about bitcoin and only did so because they heard they might be able to get rich.  I'm not sure they will ever come back so that worries me for adoption reasons.
1727  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MMA Info and Predictions - Bellator, KSW, PFL, ONE... on: February 03, 2023, 12:53:33 AM
I was just curious if anyone remember Matt Mitrione.  I went to highschool with him and he dated my sisters best friend so he'd be over at my house from time to time.  He was an amazing football player (american football), played in the NFL for a bit but man he had a really solid UFC career. He fought when I was much more in to UFC, and loved watching him fight as he's a heavyweight who throws insanely strong hooks.

Here's one of his fights versus Kimbo Slice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e670NSQNpvo
1728  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your earliest Gambling Story? on: February 03, 2023, 12:35:33 AM
Ehhh this is a good question. I think it all depends on what type of gambling we are talking about. I started playing poker ( or texas hold'em to be more specific) when I was like 18 years old or so and we of course bet money.  I think my first casino experience was when I was around 18-19 and it was on a river boat lol.

My main first bet though was a super bowl where I bet like 100 bucks on it using an online casino.  Then I found out that when you cash out, you get sent checks and they look shady and take forever to come.  When I found out they started offering bitcoin as a payment option..game changer!
1729  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Titan Mint Coins- Serious Issue- ***NEW UPDATES*** on: February 03, 2023, 12:22:12 AM
This new development feels very fishy. If it was earnest, wouldn't Tim be on here and other places communicating the recent history of problems and how this plan is going to solve it? Have other people received this communication RealHummer received? I am skeptical. Hopeful but very doubtful.

Steeley

This is what I don't understand.  I am amazed that he moved the coins and never told anyone.  Tim is obviously watching this thread, and was perhaps told by his lawyer not to write anything else here, but you're just making things worse in that regard.  If you had came here to announce this, owners of the 2FAs would be much more confident in this overly complicated redemption process that's been drawn up.

Why this wasn't announced before the coins were moved is what makes absolutely no sense to me.  Has anyone started working on this process?  I understand wanting to be safe with this and all, but there's surely a better way to do this.
1730  Other / Meta / Re: [Results 2022] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: February 02, 2023, 11:55:30 PM
Winning Event of the Year is pretty cool and I appreciate everyone who participated.  Very appreciative for the help Theymos and Cyrus provided me with, as well as all the users who helped keep things in line, helped with the pictures etc.  You all were a huge help and I can't thank you enough. I think I will be running it again next year if there's interest.

I see I'm on the wall of shame for meriting someone's post lol. I do apologize, I read the rules but quickly.  Obviously MinerJones and I don't need merit, I was just appreciative of him listing me as a scambuster.  But again sorry about that Icopress ( I know you know it wasn't merit farming or whatever but rules are rules).
1731  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 02, 2023, 11:49:08 PM

I like Tom Brady also, even though he's never played for a team that I root for.  I hope he gets his life on track actually sticks with it this time.  I imagine the 49ers would love for him to join as a backup to Brock Purdy, which would be very helpful to the youngster's career, but honestly I don't see that happening.  I doubt Brady would settle for a backup roll, and I expect him to focus on his family for now.  There will be a time when we see him regularly in a broadcasting roll, of that I have no doubt.

Yeah, 100%. Would love to see him as a broadcaster.

I also saw him with the 49ers - at least at the end of his career. But that was more or less before the season. In the meantime, however, it has developed into a dilemma for the 49ers... who will be the starting QB? Tray Lance or Brock Purdy?
With Brady on board they might have made things worse. Cheesy I think I saw in some documentary once that Brady's deepest desire was to play for the 49ers since he used to go to the games with his dad when he was a little kid...

Just happy that it went against the rumors with the LV Raiders!!! That wouldn't have been a nice retirement for me.

Yeah I'm going to miss Tommy that's for sure.  I am certainly not a Patriots fan, though being a bit of Tampa Bucs fan since I lived there for a while, it's been great seeing him play regardless.  The NFL losing Brady is sad, but I'm thankful that he's going to be broadcasting for Fox.  A lot of people are speculating that he will go to the raiders but I think he's finally had enough..nothing else to prove thats for sure.
1732  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: February 01, 2023, 07:57:38 PM
Ugh, a bunch of politicians who sucks at their jobs and are dividing our country (the United States) like crazy.  As an independent I don't like any of the candidates, and that will make it difficult to bet on I think.  When it was Hilary Clinton versus Donald Trump I was absolutely positive that Hilary was going to win and put some bitcoin down on a bet, and as we all know that didn't happen.  So I'm not sure I'll be betting this race.  Just depends I suppose.
1733  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 01, 2023, 08:04:05 AM
Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos for their 1st round pick this year and their 2nd and 3rd round pick next year. Crazy seeing a coach being traded and for this much capital. He’s an incredible coach though. He’s an offense play calling genius. I’m glad to see him back in the league.

I bet more bitcoin than I ever have on the Cincy / KC game. I really thought with Mahomes banged up and Burrow just oozing with confidence "Burrowhead Stadium", that it was their game.  Just goes to show how absolutely stupidly good Mahomes is. IMO Burrow is the leagues 2nd best QB and Mahomes more than out played him with far less talent..can't imagine if Mahomes had Chase, Higgens and Boyd.

FWIW there were a lot of calls that went KC's way and without them, they would have assuredly lost. The last play where Mahomes gets shoved when he was already out of bounds, yeah you have to call that as a foul, but there were some questionable calls before that as well.

As for who's going to win...I'm going w/Philly..that big run Mahomes had towards the end of that game may have really messed him up.  We shall see!

I'm also leaning toward Philly for that reason. KC does have more SB experience, but I don't think its enough to overcome Philly being a better team all-around.

There were absolutely horrible calls in the game. I’ve been hearing it being talked about by everyone all week. It’s insane how complex and “grey area” the rules in the NFL are.  Not to mention their always changing.

What do you think of this superbowl?  I'm not very happy that the eagles are there, I mean they played a good championship but in my opinion the 49ers deserved more, I'm not saying in the play-off game but in general while I agree that the Chiefs are the ones went to the final.  At this point, making my prediction, I would say that Kansas City will win.

It all depends on the health of Mahomes. If he was fully healthy, then I put my money on KC no question. But he seemed to be even more banged up after this last game. He was limping quite a bit towards then end, especially after that long run he had late in the game.
1734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Life Insurance on: January 31, 2023, 05:32:20 PM
This is a topic that’s been brought up quite a few time over the years and there’s even been books written about “Bitcoin succession planning”.  I made a post about this in the collectibles sections as fancy cold wallets like that are very hard to know how to sell when someone passes away. There’s really a pretty easy solution to all of this and that’s having a proper will set up and have directions on how to access your coins in case of passing away. Make sure your loved ones know where to find the directions is all.
1735  Economy / Speculation / Re: does the increasing number of altcoins have a negative impact on the price btc on: January 31, 2023, 05:27:01 PM
I think there’s no question that altcoins/shitcoins detract from bitcoin and it’s bottom line as well as it’s worldwide adoption. I’ve had so many countless clients come to me and ask me about all of these nonsense altcoins thinking they are going to get rich like some did with bitcoin.  I normally tell them to try and keep something like 80-90% of your coins in bitcoin and “gamble” for the rest of them.

Whether they listen or not, I’m not so sure.
1736  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gates of olympus on: January 31, 2023, 05:23:21 PM
Here in the United States, or the state of Illinois to be more specific, we’ve legalized gambling. I think maybe four or five years or so ago they did this and ever since my hometown has become and absolute cesspool of slot machines. They are in almost every gas station, bar, restaurant, hotel etc etc. Its crazy how fast it’s taken off. That being said, I’m not sure that we have this same type of slot machines you’re talking of, but I think we’ve got a few that are very similar.
1737  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 31, 2023, 05:20:07 PM
Maybe I’m a fool for this but I plan on betting on my Chicago Bulls tonight.  They are playing the La Clippers, who’ve got a winning record and are pretty good but the Bulls MO this year has been beat good teams and lost to awful teams so I think I’m going to try and stick with betting on that theme, and they are +2.5 tonight so throwing a few Satoshis down on the game.
1738  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Being Lonely drives you towards Gambling....! on: January 31, 2023, 05:17:36 PM
I have lived alone for a long time now, and I absolutely love it. Fortunately for me living alone is something that I love, and I don’t really get lonely and have any sort of urges to push me towards “overdosing” on things like drugs and gambling.

Sorry to hear about your mother, I hope things get better for her. I had to care for my mother when she almost passed away and lived with her for about five months, it was very fun let me tell ya, so I can relate. Best of luck!
1739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Invest in Bitcoin now so you don't have to regret it later. on: January 31, 2023, 06:24:36 AM
Well yeah we all wish we had bought bitcoin sooner, and more of it etc etc.  I found bitcoin when it was at like $200 a coin, and I sure as shit wish I had bought a bunch more too, never sold any etc.  I agree with you, to buy some now so that you don't regret it down the road, but make sure that you have enough money to put at risk. Make sure you're on track for retirement and that you understand how volatile bitcoin is and can be.
1740  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Too accessible of online casino grows addiction faster? on: January 31, 2023, 06:21:56 AM
Well of course easy access to casinos online is going to be a big deal for those who are addicted to gambling. It's the same thing as if you had an online drug marketplace that was legal.  Those with serious drug addictions would surely be buying more and more drugs than they would otherwise, feeding in to their addiction.

I take the Ron Swanson approach on this (if you've seen Parks and Rec then this will make sense)... we should have the right to do pretty much anything we want to ourselves as long as it's not hurting anyone else..so if you can't handle the online casinos, don't get on them.  Not fair to those who can having them shut down.
