17241  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where should i invest 45 BTC risk free on: July 03, 2017, 06:18:14 PM
I have been buying bitcoin when the price was around 400$-450$.Most of my bitcoins are bought at that price around 40 BTC and remaining at less then 600$ price.i have been holding btc in paper wallet since then and already my stash in usd is 6 times.
here is one of my tx

what i want to know is please suggest some ways to invest my bitcoin at zero risk to earn some profit.Even 0.8% to 1% profit per month is good for me but it should be risk free.i don't mind the profit percentage but risk should not be there.if you have some suggestions please post that too,if i should keep holding for more years and if yes how long should i hold?

You want to earn more? Well, do what you did in the past! Just hold it. Eventually the price might rise more. Also, there is NO zero risk in any kind of investment whatsoever. If there was zero risk then everyone would just dive in to bitcoin and be rich in the future.

P.S. Stay away from cloud mining and investment sites
17242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Marketing - Ideas to promote bitcoin on: July 03, 2017, 05:37:35 PM
There is already a discussion thread, "What's your way of spreading Bitcoin knowledge?" Most of the answers are centered around sharing bitcoin knowledge directly with friends/family or through social media.

Now let's make it a bit broader. Apart from social media, what innovative or out of the box marketing ideas can be used to promote bitcoin. It is not necessary that you are using this idea, but you think that an idea like this would be helpful to make more people aware of the existence of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not a brand, but brands associated with bitcoin are promoting it through TV commercials so it is an effective way to promote bitcoin. Some of the other ideas would be:

1. Bitcoin clothing, wear bitcoin T-shirts.
2. Handing out bitcoin pamphlets locally.
3. Asking local vendors if they accept bitcoin.
4. Organizing bitcoin themed parties, be it birthday, anniversary, or any special occasion.Yeah, this might be expensive, but each and every guest would come to know about bitcoin.
5. Local bitcoin treasure hunt, find hidden bitcoin. I have seen some treasure hunt threads on this forum.

There are lots of ways definitely. But I think only a few or some are really effective. some methods might come up as "spammy" or sort of like a moneymaking scheme. I like the method of asking local vendors if they accept bitcoin though.

Here are some I think are most effective (in no particular order):
  • Asking vendors if they accept bitcoin
  • Bitcoin events/conferences
  • Bitcoin guest presentations on colleges
  • TV/radio appearances
  • actual stores accepting bitcoin/crypto; with a big "accepting bitcoin" sign
17243  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Bitcoin Volatility Be Controlled? on: July 03, 2017, 12:12:37 PM
I have read some posts and some concerns that it is the volatility of Bitcoin that is preventing many people and many businesses to fully adopt Bitcoin. This can be the main factor why big online shopping stores are not yet adding Bitcoin into their payment facilities (though there is now a circulated petition for this but I doubt if it can make a dent).

Some are really saying that if volatility can be managed then we can see Bitcoin going mainstream. I am wondering then: Is volatility something that we should find a way to control and how do you think it can be done?

Sure it can. Bitcoin is just currently at a very young stage, therefore there will be problems, bugs, innefficiencies, and the like. Hopefully in the very near future these problems will be adressed. Also, bitcoin needs to be more newbie friendly, to a point where everyone will very little knowledge can use it. I can only imagine bitcoin's price being stable a few years after global adoption.
17244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are we going with cryptocurrency? on: July 03, 2017, 10:21:45 AM
Not much. None of the crypto is applicable for daily use and to an average joe, it is still easier to use fiat than crypto. If anything, the only users that can be added are gamblers and speculators or traders.
That's right, using Crypto Currencies as daily payments is one of our destinations. We can not predict how Bitcoin and other Altcoins will be in next 5 - 10 years but we all know that developers are doing their best to make that dream come true.
Hope that it will come true and faster than we expect. Bitcoin has played an important role in the world economy and it will be better if some countries and companies accepting it. I want amazon to accept bitcoin right now

Hopefully indeed. We, or the devs just needs to make bitcoin a tiny bit more "newbie" friendly. Especially for the older people, they wouldn't have a clue on what private keys and recovery phrases are. Yes we have coinbase, but I don't think that's the best solution for this.

Just to let you know, you can purchase on amazon via bitcoin using purse.io; but yea I get what you mean, it would be alot better if amazon directly accepted bitcoin.  Undecided
17245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why BlockChain Fees Increase/Discrease ? on: July 03, 2017, 05:01:18 AM
This is why Ethereum and Stellar were developed. Better fees and reduced block transaction times.

No. Ethereum was created for a different purpose and has different goals. Ethereum was created for smart contracts. While stellar has it's own pros and cons when compared with bitcoin. Not to mention stellar is not flooded with transactions . Please do your research.
17246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is BTC only for middle and upper economic class? on: July 03, 2017, 03:08:24 AM
hello..Please your opinion.

As we know that Bitcoin is being discussed right now and people hope in their country Bitcoin can be ratified as a legitimate transaction tool. But in my country, only about 3% are familiar with bitcoin. Is this because only the upper middle class knows the bitcoin, or is there any other cause? What about bitcoin in your place?

In my country only a small percentage of the people knows bitcoin too, but they only know it as a moneymaking scheme  Undecided . Anyway, to answer your question, I think bitcoin is only for the mid-lower class upto the higher class. Since in my country, even the poor people have smartphones (the cheaper Samsung models). But definitely not everyone can afford food, what more smartphones?
17247  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Steemit, is it worth it? on: July 02, 2017, 05:27:35 PM
Is anyone here using steemit maybe? I've recently stumbled upon it and as much as I know it's a content sharing place where you can earn some money, yes? Can anyone tell me more about it, is it worth getting into, etc...

I came across steemit on 2016 not knowing it will get this big. It's definitely a good platform. You earn with your content. The only issue with me is the price of steemit though. It might be too low in the future to not be relevant.
17248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: removal of taxes on bitcoin and recognition as currency is booming in the world on: July 02, 2017, 12:38:05 PM
Japan exempts bitcoin from Consumption Tax

The exemption from Japan’s 8% indirect tax regime recognizes bitcoin as a private currency used for the exchange of goods or services, and that the currencies hold no intrinsic value. The measure has come into force from 1 July 2017.

Traders of bitcoin will though remain liable to tax on their gains – capital gains tax or corporate income tax.

Australian's New Budget Includes a Bitcoin Tax Cut

Australia has officially confirmed it will treat Bitcoin “just like money” from this year and it will no longer be subject to double taxation.

http://www.vatlive.com/vat-news/japan-exempts-bitcoin-from-consumption-tax/
http://www.budget.gov.au/2017-18/content/glossies/factsheets/html/FS_innovation.htm

Ooooo this is really good news. I can see bitcoin and other crypto booming in Japan really soon. I mean come on, no tax!!! Unfortunately I don't see this happening on most countries though, especially the more corrupt ones. Anyway, I hope other countries take note of this since Japan is also a major country.
17249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin accepted at New York pre-school on: July 02, 2017, 09:56:48 AM
Hmm. Yes this is good news. But it's kinda weird because he doesn't accept credit card payments what? I know we want to spread the name of bitcoin for mass adoption but why is he forcing the parents to but Bitcoin for the payments? Definitely should be optional.
17250  Local / Pilipinas / ⚠ AUGUST 1: Bitcoin chainsplit (Summary) on: July 02, 2017, 07:52:39 AM

x-post from PinoyBitcoin.org: Link

Alright.

So ano nga ang mangyayari? Merong tatlong possibleng outcome.

    1. BIP-148 succeeds, no chain split.

    2. BIP-148 fails, no chain split.

    3. Walang panalo. Ito na ung kinakatakutan ng karamihan. Mahahati sa dalawa ang bitcoin. Pero most likely hindi sa August 1 mismo mangyayari ito. pwedeng after a few weeks or a few months.

Anong mangyayari sa presyo ng Bitcoin?

Pag nahati man sa dalawa ang bitcoin, most likely babagsak ang presyo ng bitcoin. baka nga as even as low as $500 per bitcoin.

    1. Prevent niyo muna magtransact ng bitcoins on and after August 1.

    2. Alisin niyo ang bitcoins niyo sa exchanges. Istore lamang ito sa wallets kung saan may control kayo sa private keys niyo.
Quote
"If you don't control your private keys, you don't have any bitcoin"
Guide: Bitcoin wallets
    3. Optional: Pag gusto niyo mag play safe, itrade niyo muna ang bitcoins niyo kapalit ng ibang altcoins (Ethereum, Dash, Litecoin)

17251  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Learning resources for a Newbie on: July 01, 2017, 05:41:06 PM
Smiley Hi all!
I'm new in this crypto-world and still get lost in so many concepts, words, charts, coins...
I´d like to ask you:
  -  Is there any website / book / online resource that I can study to learn?  Huh

I'd like to be able to analyze the market and be able to make informed decisions about new investments.
At the moment I'm already using youtube, bitcointalk, google and telegram to learn, but more specific resources would be VERY USEFUL!
Thanks a million in advance, guys  Grin
I just want to be part of the community while we all make nice profits

Hi! welcome to the crypto world. Anyway, I know a site that has a good size of compilation of guides.

Link: http://www.coindesk.com/information/

from that site you can learn about general bitcoin knowledge (how transactions work, mining, legalities, the blockchain, all those stuff). I suggest you go through all those stuff first before going into trading/markets. The basics are VERY necessary.

Also, if you like watching instead, look up crypt0 on youtube, link: https://www.youtube.com/user/obham001 ; videos might be long, yes, but they have very good insight. Easily one of the best crypto youtubers in my opinion.

The site or the platform just suspended the addresses btc it asks to change the addresses but I sent an amount my old address also I have amounts pending to different faucets with the old address that would make Undecided

Suspended what address and how? And what platform specifically? Can you please tell the whole story first? We don't have time to ask you everything, you need to state them. What platform? What did you do to get the address suspended? Which address? Receiving or accepting? Etc.

If that's the case it looks like you're screwed. Try contacting C-Cex customer support about this if ever they still have access to the old address. There's nothing we can help you with. Only C-Cex themselves can help you.

Also, are you seriously using an exchange site as your wallet?  Roll Eyes That's like the worst idea ever. Heck, I'd even prefer using online wallets. If they say they don't have access to your old address or if they don't reply, then I guess you just need to accept that loss. Please please please never use c-cex as your wallet again.

Some decent wallets:
Copay: https://copay.io/
Electrum: https://electrum.org/
Blockchain.info: https://blockchain.info/wallet/
17253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet vs Exchange on: July 01, 2017, 03:27:39 PM
Ok,

my question is, how much coins you keep in wallet and how much on exchanges?

Is it like 50/50 or more like 90/10?

I hold it like 99/1, 1% on exchanges obviously(spare change), And you should do that too. Anytime, the crypto exchange can just close and run away with your cryptocurrencies if they wanted to. Also, remember the previous hacks on bitfinex and Mt. Gox? Those events should already be a lesson for crypto holders.

hello!

I had an address for my btc account but I am not found yet the other addresses exist the problem is that I sent 0.004 btc to this address
So I filed this address in several faucets that cumulate the btc and which requires not to change address how to do
Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

Can you explain more clearly? Other members and I could barely understand what you're trying to say unfortunately. So you had an address to your bitcoin account (maybe your c-cex account?) and you haven't found what exactly?
17256  Economy / Exchanges / Re: About to make my first simple altcoin trade. I need to set up a Stop-Loss? on: July 01, 2017, 12:35:58 PM
Hi All,

I'm a semi-newbie. I've got some various altcoins and I want to make my first trade on Poloniex. I've got a Poloniex account.

My trade is very simple. I want to deposit some of my altcoin aaa into Poloniex and trade it for altcoin bbb. Then I plan to transfer bbb to another site where I can convert bbb into fiat. Pretty simple.

Do I need to set up a Stop-Loss for this trade on Poloniex?

Thanks,

PS: My iron-clad rule is to absolutely minimize the time that I'm not controlling the private keys to my altcoins. So I never keep my altcoins on exchanges longer than needed.

No, you don't need to use stop-losses. Stop-losses are used for different purposes, that you probably do not need right now. Not sure what you call it on poloniex, but you should only use limit trades.

And yes. It's not a good idea to leave your coins on exchanges, since they can just disappear anytime and they are quite prone to hacks.
17257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to effectively store large number of Bitcoins? on: July 01, 2017, 07:02:47 AM
Suppose I hold lot of bitcoins in exchanges and in some wallet. To prevent the loss of bitcoins, how should one manage them?

Generate multiple new addresses. Distribute the bitcoins among these addresses. Copy the private keys of these addresses to paper wallet.
Is this the way to do it?

What are other better ways to manage large number of bitcoins?

I suggest using only one address to prevent hassle. No reason to store it on multiple addresses whatsoever.

One suggestion is to make a paperwallet offline. Here's a guide on coindesk: http://www.coindesk.com/information/paper-wallet-tutorial/

What I would to though, is to buy a hardware wallet. A ledger nano S to be more specific. It's a device with a size of a USB Flash Drive. If you're interested, look up: Ledger Nano S, Trezor, and Keepkey. I'll list the websites below.

17258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Documentary] Life on bitcoin is out on: June 30, 2017, 04:40:34 PM
Alright. I've only watched the trailer for now and I'm a bit interested (just a little bit). The documentary looked very low-budget from the first 10 seconds. Some parts of the movie actually made me cringe. Like 3/4 of the trailer, when they were having problems because they couldn't find stores who accepts bitcoin, well duh, bitcoin isn't widely accepted yet; why didn't you bring cash? I felt like they were trying too hard to dramatize it. I'd prefer if they just made like a informative documentary on what bitcoin can solve. Not all these "oh no this restaurant doesn't accept bitcoin and I'm already very hungry Sad"
17259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proof that Crime isn't Why they Hate Bitcoin. on: June 30, 2017, 03:44:20 PM
Yea you're right. Right now the main excuse is terrorism. That's also why prepaid phone cards are slowly but surely getting banned. Because it's nearly untraceable.

Are they really close to getting banned? Any sources?

I think prepaid phone cards can be traceable through signal and through the phone itself(not the sim card). But yea, this easy solution for criminals to get past this is to buy very cheap mobile phones and just get rid of the phone after like every transaction and get a new one after.  Cheesy
17260  Other / Off-topic / Re: What wallets do you use? on: June 30, 2017, 02:39:20 PM
I only used coins.ph. as what i know its the only  trusted btc wallet  here in philippines.

"If you don't control the private keys, you don't have any bitcoin'. People from the Philippines are too lazy to do research on wallets and why you shouldn't store wallet on those services; and I'm filipino myself! Makes me sick. End rant.

Anyway, I use mycelium on Android and electrum on windows. Though I'm starting to use Copay because I'm a UI junkie.
