17281  Economy / Economics / Re: Pump and dump is the name of the game. on: August 28, 2017, 07:52:55 PM
That really is the game. One that I'm loathe to invest time in to learn, nor to risk the heartache of losing, nor to endure the highs of "winning". It's a zero sum end game if everyone's in it for pump and dump (thankfully, even the biggest pessimist must not believe this to be true).

It's a big reason behind why the last two buys I've made are into a form of periodical dividend-sharing tokens. No returns as of yet, but am only holding and waiting patiently for the businesses to start kicking in. Ain't got no time for P n D!
17282  Economy / Gambling / Re: 4grinz.com 4grinz horrible withdrawl requirement on: August 28, 2017, 02:28:45 PM
when you deposit to a casino, you should read their TOS in detail
twice
and then reread again
doesn't change the fact that their withdrawal  rules are borderline scam
never even consider playing there, 3x rollover is ridiculous, this must  be the first casino with a no-bonus wagered requirement

In fact, I would say to read and understand ToS before you even register an account.

@OP here's news for you. Your casino isn't the only one with hidden withdrawal/deposit terms like that. Watch out especially for online casinos where Bitcoin is an alternative currency. Most require you to wager your deposit at least one time, or face a withdrawal fee, which tends to be equal to or larger than the minimum deposit. In other words, you're forced to wager your entire deposit if you want to try the casino out. I haven't found a crypto-only casino with that ridiculous rule.

But 3x rollover is the highest I've heard of for sure.
17283  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-28] The World’s Largest Tourism Company Goes Big on Blockchain on: August 28, 2017, 02:16:39 PM
I have several direct relatives working almost an entire career in tourism, one as a hotelier and the other in travel booking (flights + accommodation). I've learnt a bit from them about the internal booking and ticketing systems - at least in Southeast Asia where archaic forms they still exist. Especially for state-vested tourism, large portions of the bookings/tickets are pre-allocated to these agencies, and it's not easily transparent to the independent traveller how the actual occupancy/seating supply looks like.

I wonder if blockchain will be used to increase transparency in this industry - if everyone knows for certain that a hotel indeed only has "2 rooms left" or a flight is 99% sold out, then prices can be justified. At the moment, there's a lot of manipulation in the industry. A same room/ticket can be sold at very different prices depending on the time/agent/payment method you use. Cheaper travel is always better. Bring it on, blockchain.
17284  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin mixing and Segwit on: August 28, 2017, 08:31:19 AM
I would say: "the more the merrier"!

First, I know SegWit got activated, but I have no idea how I can use it. As far as I understand now, my Bitcoin client has to support it, and with all the fighting about how to allow Bitcoin scaling, I haven't seen a client that lets me use SegWit.

Second, I assume that once SegWit is in use, any other Hub will also promise they won't keep logs, just like I now hope/assume Bitcoin hubs don't store IP addresses.

As far as I understand, SegWit and Lighning Network risk being a centralized service with only a few big Hubs. You could have a first mover advantage by creating one before others do.

But, from your mixer's point of view, aren't you taking away the need for your own service if in the future most transactions are done off-chain?

I'd love to see Bitcoin scale to allow more transactions, and I don't really care if that's through bigger blocks or secure off-chain transactions. All I know is, it's taking way too long and fees are crazy high now. When I started using Bitcoin back in 2015, 0.00001 BTC fee was enough for a fast transaction. Now, fees are 100 times higher and Bitcoin is 20 times more expensive. That makes fees 2000 times more expensive in terms of dollars. It used to be cheaper than bank transactions, now it's 50 times more expensive than the commercial SEPA rate in Europe.

Actually, I always did think of ChipMixer's "chip" method as being an off-chain transaction, since it works that way anyway. Depending on how you look at it, then yeah the act of mixing itself even mirrors the risk of SW and NL, as a centralised satellite or step. However, I don't think you harm the mixing business by implementing an extra off-chain process. If anything, it just makes any tracking/analysis effort even more difficult.

Not sure if this is an idea but what if ChipMixer maintains non-SW deposits. Person uses legacy (non-SW) addresses to deposit from and to. When chips are redeemed, the coins could come from SW and LN-mixed addresses. Or does backward compatibility means it isn't more difficult to track?
17285  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What are the most reputable Bitcoin/usd exchanges? on: August 28, 2017, 08:18:35 AM
DaMut's given you the biggest exchanges in terms of volume, and this is also my preferred way to choose an exchange. But it's a bit different for Bitcoin, I would say, in terms of reputation. Localbitcoins is the one I use most frequently, partially for its ease and close-to-market-average prices, although lately its' been dropping off ever since BTC broke the $4,000 barrier. But mostly because of its escrow-system, instant trade resolution in certain cases, and reputation. There are very few delayed withdrawals of BTC if you request it from the site wallet, unlike many of the exchanges listed on coinmarketcap. And online cash payments are only as slow as the method (as I mentioned, instant in the case of my preferred choice of payment in my country). It's P2P, btw.
17286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Quick Couple Questions from a Newbie. on: August 28, 2017, 06:44:09 AM

@buwaytress - Thanks for the feedback. I am somewhat confused about your answer to the funding question though. Are you saying that just announcing early and mining would be enough or something else?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, quite a number of projects were (or are) run by enthusiasts or part-time developers who really believe in their own project. If anything, great ideas are generally developed without funding - it's the product or adoption later on that needs funding. That's how a lot of great ideas happen even outside of crypto. Inventors working from their shed, writers scribbling on napkins. Tolkien wrote a lot of his draft material while fighting the first world war! You could argue that funding would have made things easier - but with crypto, especially, I think you could get a lot of work done at nothing more than the cost of electricity for your computer and time on your hands.

What you mentioned about early announcements. That might attract interest from like-minded individuals.
17287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pros and cons of Wallet.dat and Priv Keys on: August 27, 2017, 10:03:08 PM
I'm afraid I still don't have a favourite. With private keys, or seeds, I don't like the idea that I could somehow lose them. I use electrum, and developed a sort of mnemonic jingle to try to memorise my seed. But I realise if I don't practise every few weeks I forget it anyway haha.

With wallet.dat, I worry they'll either get corrupted or somehow become incompatible with a future upgrade. And now with SegWit, I'm still not sure how exactly I will want to switch addresses, as may require new set of seed/privkey/dat. Silly reason I guess but because of that still sitting on my legacy addresses.
17288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: August 27, 2017, 09:41:45 PM
I didn't do too badly the past two weeks, as it turned out! Newcastle's win (finally) for example. But Manchester City's last gasp goal to give me an exact 2-1, tonight's WBA-Stoke goal apiece were the 80 points. Too bad Sturridge HAD to score a sub goal or my 3-0 prediction would have been a sweet highest personal weekly.

Tip to all: just put in and save your predictions as soon as you're able to (like tonight, for example). You can always come back and change your predictions. If you don't, at least you have a chance at the following week! P.S. Looking good up there, ajax. @OP I'm on your tail finally!
17289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese never seizes to amaze on: August 27, 2017, 09:45:23 AM
In my lifetime, I've seen China-made products evolve from mere reverse-engineering products regurgitated as cheap imitations to actual improvisation and innovation of technology, closer to what Japanese manufacturers have been doing. Even if you go to appliance/electronics stores, you'll find the "Grade A" Chinese products alongside the "typical Chinese products". Half the world uses Chinese consumer tech now - cheaper, and arguably superior.

I don't see this as desperation or greed - simply innovation. Some European governments found a way for households to "mine" solar energy to be sold to the state. Perhaps this is the start of household crypto mining to supplement state economy. Maybe even collaborative non-profit projects like Cloud Folding or the home SETI?
17290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Quick Couple Questions from a Newbie. on: August 27, 2017, 08:34:44 AM
1 - If I am looking to seek assistance with a coin development, using either a Current working algorithm or a new one, is this the correct forum to post in, and if not, where should I direct my posts?

It's not a wrong place, but you might find more useful discussions in the Altcoin Discussion section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0
If you're a complete newbie as you claim, I might also recommend Bitcoingarden.org forum, if you want to find altcoin developers and communities. There's a lot of support there for new projects.

2 - Does anyone know of a current way to assure that a coin idea remain unable to be stolen, and executed on, while still being able to discuss it, such as a limited patent or idea ownership, etc.?
Pre-launch you mean? I suppose the only way is to do it like most projects do. Work within team communication channels. Once you go live, however, it's open game. That's actually supposed to be the way it works.

3 - In the event that this coin does get pushed out and becomes a thing in the near future, there is one stumbling stone that I see and that is the initial development "Funding". I have seen some people use pre-mines, taxes, profit yields, trusts, etc. but, what I am curious about is what the normal cryptocoin user finds to be most fair. Obviously, a team needs some motivation to work, Funds can help make that motivation more pressing, while also making sure no one thinks anything shady with the way that those funds are collected.
Actually, funding is not necessarily a stumbling block. Bitcoin is a good example of people whose prime motivation was that their idea had the potential for precisely what your next question suggests: "a profound and unprecendented positive effect upon the world". There are plenty of projects I like, who also never funded. Byteballs, for example, had a distribution model based around Bitcoin users and owners.

4 - Finally, if you post here, please -PLEASE- leave an answer to this question as in many ways, it has more weight on the decision that I will make about pursuing this coin. The question is simple - If there was a way to have Blockchain and Cryptocurrency start having a profound and unprecedented positive effect upon the world, even if it meant rough waters, would you, as a consumer, support it?

Thanks a ton for taking any time at all to look over this post and I look forward to not only any responses here, but also in the future topics to come.

I'm using Bitcoin. That's a big, resounding yes, at least in my small view.
17291  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Novaexchange hacked or Scam???? on: August 26, 2017, 08:22:26 PM
They also recently removed free votes. Now 1 vote cost 10 NPOINT (about 0.0017 BTC or $7).
This exchange was a good opportunity to make a cheap and fast listing. But now it has no advantages over other exchanges.

This has got nothing to do with being a scam. If anything, this will keep fewer of those nonsense altcoins out of sight. Then again, any coin that has to pay to be listed probably has little substantial product to rely on. Saying this with all due respect. Exchanges like nova have good use and can be a launch pad to new projects with limited funding. I have only used it once to get a coin I wanted end of last year but it's a popular one with the folks over at Bitcoingarden. The more exchanges, the merrier, I say. But can we make the push for decentralised ones please?
17292  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-8-25] Vietnam Is Preparing to Legally Recognize Bitcoin on: August 26, 2017, 07:52:24 PM
What they have is just promise... They can change their mind at any time

" An assessment for how the government should approach this process is due to be completed by August of next year. Once that is concluded, it’s expected that drawing up the legal documents required to recognize cryptocurrencies under a regulatory framework will be completed by the end of 2018.

In tandem, officials will also begin work on a tax treatment for cryptocurrencies. According to VNA, a system governing how cryptocurrency users will be taxed in Vietnam is slated to be in place by June 2019. "

That is true for any decision. China's changed it mind in the last few years about Bitcoin.

Seems like positive news in any case. It's been estimated that Vietnam's just behind Thailand, Malaysia, Spore, Indo and Philippines in Bitcoin volume - which actually says a quite a lot, given its infrastructure is somewhat behind those leaders. Southeast Asia is a group of middling tigers historically keen on fintech, with governments generally slow but supportive of what the industry and economy decides. Discounting the activity in Singapore, there's only been one major blockchain conference in the region and there's tell that VN might pip the others to a second.
17293  Other / Off-topic / Re: High quality football (soccer) streams - where?? on: August 26, 2017, 06:08:02 PM
Not particularly certain about the rules regarding posting streaming sites so I won't say names. I travel every now and then and certainly don't always have access to proper channels but Google does throw up a couple of good sites on the first page. When I say good, I mean little or no annoying advertising (with AdBlock on of course). These tend to change every few months but they're not that hard to find.

The other option is Kodi or some similar streaming software. Again google will help you find good sports add-ons for Kodi.
17294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Blockchain Unconfirmed transaction since yesterday paid good fee too on: August 26, 2017, 12:08:07 PM
Well i'm ready to pay extra fee for accelerator
Is there anyone who can do this for me? I will pay you

I've accelerated your tx for you, but for the future, you want to read the posts in this thread to avoid this problem in the future.

1. Before making any spend, check out bitcoinfees.21.co. It will show you a current estimate of the time you can expect to get confirmation according to the fee you pay based on satoshi/byte.
2. Anything above Inf (infinity) should be where you aim for.Personally, I don't mind waiting even 2 days but below 360 mins (6 hours) should get you by fairly consistently. Right now, it shows that to get confirmed within 360 mins, you have to cough up 301-320 satoshis/byte.
3. Set your fee/byte to the desired amount and send.

Those are all estimations which are represent a 90% chance for confirmation within the timeframe... so yeah, it's not set in stone.
17295  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NEXT GAME IN 8HOURs -Sportstips - Basketball/tennis/soccer🔥Wins 122- Loss 26🔥 on: August 26, 2017, 12:00:08 PM
Another great win. Well done as always. Wish I saw this one on time. Have you considered starting a twitter channel ? I always want to know when you post but the forum notifications never come through.

I agree. Start a twitter page so we can all get these picks right when you post them for those that can not connect on here everyday.
Twitter is an easier medium to connect with your followers of your picks which have been pretty accurate if you ask me. Wink

Keep it up there bud! Smiley

Sweet win on the turn ajax, even if you weren't confident. If you do decide to take it to twitter, just keep this thread(s)!  I like this thread format. Guys like me are absent from social media as there's just too much rubbish to filter after a while. I don't mind bookmarking a few threads - and it does allow for discussion, which is the main reason I started following tipsters like ajax/Joca. I don't feel inclined to bet on tipsters who don't sometimes add a bit of commentary. Plus, you can look back on old posts for reference.

Hoping for a bit of EPL hinting this weekend!
17296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: One week, zero confirmations. Hurts Bitcoin adaption on: August 25, 2017, 07:44:19 PM
We are having another all time high peak on the mempool size:

https://blockchain.info/en/charts/mempool-size?timespan=all

At this point, it's very safe to assume spam attacks are going on every now and them in the blockchain.
I suspect there will be a ton of spam come October in order to push the Jeff Garzik btc/segwit2x agenda.
Realize that BCash benefits from the chaos that segwit2x will cause, so expect higher fees by then. Hopefully segwit makes a positive impact.

I don't know when it's unsafe to assume that, but yeah, this all time high peak can't be completely bereft of agenda. Not sure it's just as obvious as the big bad guys of forker camps, though. I wonder if it's too much coincidence that each time Bitcoin creeps under a threshold below a new ATH, it gets harder to confirm quickly and demand spikes. Prices climb back. I can't remember the last ATH without the mempool bloat.
17297  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NEXT GAME IN 8HOURs -Sportstips - Basketball/tennis/soccer🔥Wins 122- Loss 26🔥 on: August 25, 2017, 05:53:55 PM

Risky sounds like me, I'm in on this bet @ 2.0! I would call a 1-0 win on Bresse Peronnas, so I'll take that side too. Thanks!
What bookie are you using I only see the line at 1.76 on nitro.

French Ligue 2 games are completely beyond my prediction abilities. In fact, any league below top tier is uncharted territory for me. I may chance a few bets on the English Championship as there always are a few familiar teams there but generally avoid - except that this is tailing a tipster Grin

@ralle, sorry about that! I just checked, no wonder it was 2.0 for me. I used Bitcoinrush Sportsbook but it was a payout for Under 2.25, not Under 2.5. My mistake, sorry!
17298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Everyone already knows about bitcoin" no.. no they do not.. on: August 25, 2017, 11:27:11 AM
There is growing opinion that right now is that slimmest of moments between early adoption and mainstream adoption. Cambridge research from four months ago showed less than 0.1 % global adoption on assumption of unique Bitcoin wallet holders but this was shortly before the spring boom that finally nudged even the most conservative of traditional finance towards Bitcoin. It's not just Bloomberg and Forbes anymore. It's Goldman Sachs and a rush of private equity firms. It's no longer European and North American startups now - it's really starting to take off across the Pacific, in Singapore and Australia, in Central and East Asia, even in Africa.

So yes, it's still not true that everyone already knows about Bitcoin. But if only 5% of the world knew about it, we'd really have something on our hands.
17299  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NEXT GAME IN 8HOURs -Sportstips - Basketball/tennis/soccer🔥Wins 122- Loss 26🔥 on: August 25, 2017, 10:44:14 AM
I think I posted 1 or 2 of them the night before. You are welcome, thanks for participating. Yeah I decided to suspend the second one due to lack of participation. I suppose people like it more when it doesn't require too much effort.

Going with a somewhat risky soccer game for today. Betting a smaller amount on this. You guys can chose to tail. GL if you do:

Gazelec Ajaccio v Bourg en Bresse Peronnas  - Match: under 2.5

Betslip for Reference

No problem. Yeah, I think a lot of people can't really be bothered with extra account signups and keeping track of leagues, that sort of thing. Perfectly understandable for gamblers I guess, but you might find better luck with football punters. If they're anything like me, they keep maybe 5 or 6 leagues in check, even if they're not always updated.

Risky sounds like me, I'm in on this bet @ 2.0! I would call a 1-0 win on Bresse Peronnas, so I'll take that side too. Thanks!
17300  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-24]Current State of the ICO Market: Growing Pains on: August 25, 2017, 09:54:34 AM
In the past month alone, I must have seen more than five investment portfolio management type ICOs. It's a grand new world of possibilities, with ICOs for companies managing ICOs and tokenising tokenisation. Another thing they have going on for themselves is by laying claim to being the "world's first" in whatever niche they're settling into.

If I had any time, I'd be launching the world's first investment fund to manage only a diverse portfolio of crypto/ICO investment funds. Hmm, I'm not being sarcastic here...
