17381  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallets - Multiple Questions on: June 23, 2017, 10:28:15 AM
**First post - Please move this post to the correct section if I posted in the wrong place**

I'm confused by the wallets and feel like I've found mixed answers around the web so I figured I would try my luck here.

  • Do I need to download a wallet for EACH currency I own/mine or is there an a downloadable wallet that holds multiple currencies?
  • If I delete a wallet from my hard drive do I lose all my coins or can I just re-download the wallet and get access to my coins as long as I have the address/password saved for the previous wallet?
  • Is there another good site/forum/place that would go into more details about wallets in general?

Thanks and sorry if there is a post here that already addresses the issues/questions...I just couldn't find it.

Yes and no. There are wallets for individual currencies, and there are also wallets that hold multiple currencies, like Jaxx.io.

You lose all your coins unless you back them up.

No. Google is enough. Read like 3 topics or blog posts and you're all good.
17382  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: risk management - name 7 coins - balanced portfolio for the summer on: June 23, 2017, 02:34:12 AM
Who among you have experience in balancing risk well? I am seeking advice, and suggest a collective game. The background:

I am too heavy in BTC and ETH, for leaving my portfolio unobserved. Please inspire me how to mitigate the summer risks.

To create a safer, more balanced portfolio, for while I am away for my summer holidays, which 7 coins would you distribute your money in, for the next approx 7 weeks? I do not necessarily expect huge gains, but do not want to miss out on too much, and ... putting all eggs into one basket feels dangerous.  (advanced answer: Give percentages too.)

And yes, number 8 is a portion of fiat, too. But the better I balance the portfolio, the less perhaps I have to put into fiat while I am away?

Just name seven, which you think
(a) are not totally overvalued already, and are likely to drop to the core soon,
(b) have solid tech, team, financing, innovation, future ...
(c) are not too correlated (like ERC20 tokens with ETH), and
(d) ideally have a healthy market (demand~supply, e.g.: BTC, ETH, DASH, LTC, ...?)

So, the game is on: Name 7 such cryptos. Thanks!

Man 7 weeks is a short span. if you'd like low risk, definitely hold for ALOT longer.

Short term though, I think BTC and ETH are safe. But anyway, here are some coins I have in mind:
  • BTC
  • ETH
  • Sia
  • ANS
  • XMR
  • Golem
  • Maybe Zcash? (idk)

Also, I'm in no way an investment expert so take my opinion lightly.  Grin
17383  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BUY high sell low ? on: June 22, 2017, 04:04:36 PM
or may be buy low sell high ?

Lot of noobs traders , don't control their emotions and make worst mistakes : buy at high price and sell at lowest

how to control this ? = put orders (buy/sell) and close the platform

Indeed. "Buy low, sell high" sounds very simple doesn't it? But I think most traders actually do the opposite. They often buy in when the crypto is on the rise, and sell in on the way down.

How do you control this? Plan your trades. Decide on and set a certain price where you're planning on buying. Don't let your emotions take control of you.

Also, be active on bitcoin news. There are tons of websites that can provide that. Google is your friend.  Wink
17384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More than 50 hours and no confirmations : Bitcoin on: June 22, 2017, 03:35:56 PM
What should I do to obtain confirmations?
Thank you all.

More information about this issue.
I noticed 1 confirmation at the beginning.
But then the 1 confirmation was gone.
What happened?

This is definitely caused by you paying a very very low transaction fee. How much did you pay?
Increase it a bit. maybe atleast $2 or so? Completely depends on how quickly you need the coins. But if you need it sooner, put it a bit higher.
17385  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is this right time to buy bitcoin?? on: June 22, 2017, 03:03:15 PM
After seeing some post regarding bitcoin legalized in india (link will be given below)  spreading around facebook and other social media lots of my friends asking about investing in bitcoin is this right time or 1)it may go down till that can we wait and buy  or 2) it will take off booming then we cant touch because of overprice . Please could somebody give clear picture Link: https://cointelegraph.com/news/suddenly-bitcoin-to-be-officially-legal-in-india

If there's one thing I've learned investing in bitcoin through the years, is: "the best time to buy is always today". lots of times I ask myself if its the right time to buy, and sometimes end up doubting. and guess that? btc reached $3000 ATH weeks ago. But yea, still go with your gut feeling. Goodluck.
17386  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Bumagsak si bitcoin on: June 22, 2017, 02:02:17 PM
Bumagsak ang presyo ni bitcoin ngayon. Nalingat lang ako sandali $100 agad nawala nun. Hindi maganda to guys. Panget masi yung mga nababasa ko sa news. Lintek kasi tong pboc nato. Nananakot lang ng mga bitcoin users. Kinonvert ko agad lahat ng btc ko. Yung 10k+ ko naging 9k+ nalang. Inunahan kona baka mawala pa. Then convert nalang kapag humupa na.

Bumagsak lang ng $100 nagcash out ka na. Kung titignan mo ung price chart normal na normal lang ang $100 fluctuations. Since obviously super volatile parin ang btc. Pero ofcourse, sundin mo parin gut feeling mo. Goodluck.
17387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what are safe reliable ways of securing my bitcoins / bitcoin wallets? on: June 22, 2017, 02:17:56 AM
Hey all, this question has been asked before in older topics / threads but those are old threads and as a result the methods are probably vunerable / outdated now, So I would like to know the safe reliable ways of securing bitcoins / bitcoin wallets? is it advisable to zip/ encrypt and upload in cloud? I would like to know different ways to protect my bitcoins. Hope to get some response.

A safe way would be using paper wallets. Its a wallet that is literally on a piece of paper. If you have some money though, get a ledger nano or a trezor. best option in my opinion. Though if you don't have enough crypto, you can just hold it on a safe wallet like Copay/Mycelium/Electrum depending on what device you're using.
17388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: segwit2X soon? on: June 21, 2017, 08:55:37 AM
https://coin.dance/blocks  76% blocks mined today support segwit2X
bitmain is raising an ICO to make sure they can buy enough hashrate to make sure a hard fork. But it seems that miners are supporting the compromise approach segwit2X now.

Yep. I've even read somewhere that it got up to like 80+%. I'm still not sure if I'd prefer SegWit or BU but I'll take any solution since I think any one of both is necessary as soon as possible.

17391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia faces shortage of PC graphics cards due to Cryptocurrency mining on: June 20, 2017, 03:13:39 PM
https://www.rt.com/business/393179-russia-bitcoin-mining-video-card/
Russia is still under sanctions from the west, which means they can't easily import graphics cards.

No wonder they had a shortage. When I first read the title, I was like "how though? arent those graphics cards imported goods anyway?".

Anyway, I wonder how the smuggling industry is at Russia. I'd bet a successful graphics card smuggler would make big bucks.

17393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crime funded by bitcoin on: June 20, 2017, 10:58:07 AM
Since Bitcoin was ever released, I've thought of the possibility of this. Will crimes be easily funded now due to bitcoin and it's anonymity? How do you think the authorities will combat this? Will this lead to a decline in the price of bitcoin? I've had this on my mind for a while now and I would like to hear your guys opinions.

Yes it is possible, and it will be quite easier for them. But honestly, people shouldn't blame bitcoin because funding of crimes has been around since forever anyway. So, bitcoin or without bitcoin, funding of crimes will still be a thing.
17394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if, we advertise bitcoin on T.V.? on: June 20, 2017, 08:58:21 AM
This is a decent idea. Not sure if it has been done before, but someone could like make one bitcoin wallet, then just accept donations from everyone. The collected donations would then be used for advertising payments. hmm.
17395  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Cloud mining: Worth it ba? on: June 20, 2017, 07:55:59 AM

17396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We need to rethink the way we look at 1 BTC value... on: June 20, 2017, 07:52:00 AM
OK, so now when a newbie looks at 1 BTC says: " I will never be able to own that! Too expensive!" - yes because people are willing to have 1 coin but how about if we make people understand that even owning 0.01 BTC can bring good wealth to their lives in the near future... I mean yeah it's great to own 1 BTC or more but that doesn't mean it's not great owning 0.1 BTC right?

I honestly don't like that 1 BTC is too expensive. I think it's alot better if 1 Bitcoin will be in the same level and value with something like 1 USD. If bitcoin would be used globally, I would have to use mBTC. It would be alot better and easier to say something like "1 large burger = 4 btc" rather than "1 large burger = 4 mBTC / 0.004 BTC".
17397  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you daily withdraw coin balances from the exchange(s)? on: June 19, 2017, 06:18:06 PM
When you do day to day trading, do you withdraw your coin balances from the exchange(s) at the end of the day? Since sending it back and forth, to e.g. a Nano S Ledger, everyday will also involve transaction costs and extra effort.

I personally don't since I don't daytrade (I trade like once in 2 weeks) but if I did daytrade I definitely would withdraw everytime. People should take bitfinex's hack a lesson. Will it happen again? Unlikely, but very possible.

17398  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Should We be Afraid of BIP 148? on: June 19, 2017, 06:11:14 PM
I fear for the hard fork. I honestly hate and am against bitcoin splitting into two. Even just for the publicity itself, people who aren't tech savvy will lose hope on bitcoin. The price will definitely drop no doubt.

But the problem is we need a solution; and we need it FAST. Bitcoin is very not worth using as of now.
17399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Bitcoin is better than Gold? on: June 19, 2017, 03:20:44 PM
So Bitcoin is better than Gold? Roll Eyes

Better in terms of what?

As a currency: bitcoin
Investment: bitcoin (in my opinion)
Portability: bitcoin
Almost everything else: bitcoin

I can only see gold being better if it is in terms of brag value or in terms of 'showyness'. Gotta have that bling.
