I am interested in seeing where the next floor will be established (or if one will be established, maybe it will just continue up for a while!). Seems to be holding strong above 8000 for the time being. Any guesses?

Here is a little lesson on some issues with building a android wallet
Bitcoin wallet uses spv (simple payment verification)
      a. bitcoinj is a java implementation of this
     b. This allows multiple clients to Download header only files of the block chain.
Currently there is no implementation for pos coins to do this
a. The Blocks that are created threw pos and pow are different and this information is not stored in the block header.

              1. Not sure how this works now that mint is pure pos
            2. the app needs this information to work so this is a large bridge to cross
Hash engineering digitalcoin and digitalcoinj great repo to fork for wallet a. PROS
  1. He implements multiple variables into one class for easy porting of the code

     2. He has not implemented pos coins but he is very interested in the process.
b. Cons
  1. currently pow only
   2. Alot of coding required the cpp to be rewritten in java
I have been combing threw cpp code of mint coin and let me tell you the main.cpp between mint coin and bit coin for pos vs pow coin is very different. This will be a lot of work or maybe very easy work for smart person.
My Views:
Yes there is a nice bounty on wallet but I think we need a small development team I am willing to be a part of. Bounty will be split If the team completes app.
Set up a donation address There are plenty of people who would donate mint to make this happen. It would be a nice incentive for developers to know there getting payed a little bit for work they do. If people donate and developers are contributing they should be tipped as there going along. This will allow more motivation and stronger community support.

I agree. It seems like it will take more than one person and it would be great to have you helping out! I believe paspi and bigchirv have also expressed interest on working on the project. Perhaps you three could begin correspondence with one another?
Community support is very important, any additional motivation we can provide will help accelerate and improve the process. Beaverslayer is coordinating the donations right now, for those of you that are interested in donating at this time send a PM to him for more info.

For everything regarding the Android wallet, refer to Beaverslayer1 from now on. He will give more info soon and handle the project.

Well, I have been in contact with the Mintcoin developer and discussed the Android Wallet issue with him as we all know this project has to not only get off the ground and implemented ASAP to further the advancements of Mintcoin.

A bounty for this project has been established and is outlined in the following requirements. Seeing as the bounty is a graduated bounty, it may be advisable that a few of you that have mentioned you are willing/capable of doing such work, maybe work together on different parts of the wallet.

The one thing that has been discussed openly here in the forum, is whether the wallet is open source or proprietary, the only wallet that is eligible for the bounties MUST BE OPEN SOURCE. The reasoning for this, is that all crypto currencies are based on the open source concept as this gives greater freedom to the general public to be able to “Customize” any part of the software to their own individual liking. It also allows the ease of bug fixes to be looked at, fixed and implemented faster as you're not waiting on one single source to fix the problem.

Here's the outline of the graduated bounties:

1: Basic Android Wallet for Phone and Tablets         5,000,000 Mintcoins
2: PoS Coin Minting Feature               3,500,000 Mintcoins
3: Battery Management Feature                   1,500,000 Mintcoins

There have been some of you that have expressed interest in donating extra funds to this project, should you still be interested, please contact me via PM and express your desire and amount of donation.

This is great! Lets see how much we can raise on top of this as a community.

Is there an active android wallet development? I saw people mention Bigchirv, but couldn't see any of his posts in this thread, maybe I missed it.

Certainly you may miss them. Hey there, Smiley

I've been studying the code of the wallets out there and yes, I'd like to start with the project. Some user days ago uploaded some images:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BwpkXqmxmdGScm9lb21pTXhuS00&usp=sharing

and basically is that what is holding me back, because I don't wanna waste my time (or any other's time) starting the project if someone already has something already on the table.

However, many days have passed and no more news on the status of that work.

Somebody can give us an update on this? Anyone?

I'm thinking on minting on a mobile device. Minting uses 100% cpu to find a hash, much like PoW, but using owner's coins. A phone user would not want to enable it.

I stated exactly the same some posts ago when the topic came up. It basically will drain the mobile's battery and also will slow the device.

On the other hand, a tablet-only user might want it if it's her only computer, so android wallet should ideally have minting, but the ability to turn it off. Or options like "mint only when charging", "mint only when charging and battery > 80%", "mint only when screen is locked"

And another user said the same tho. The argument was he has friends that would like to mint on their tablets. I still think the battery life will still be an issue. However we can always do what gonzoucab is saying and put a checkbox enabling/disabling minting. Of course, for that 1st we need the wallet up and available for download  and 2nd have implemented the PoS algorithm.

I'm thinking about the first use case, to run mintcoin wallet on a phone, but the user doesn't want his phone to mint at all. What happens if I share my private key between desktop wallet and android wallet?
Does anyone know how the QT clients react when the same wallet.dat is used on two computers simultaneously? Do they notice funds in an account are gone if they see an outgoing transaction in the blockchain, or do they assume only they can initiate transfers?

Those are real good questions. People usually goes with the new wallet/priv-key created when installing the app on their devices.

Maybe the Mintcoin Dev Team can answer this to us. Or somebody can point us to proper documentation. I can't tell whether or not there's a mechanism to prevent things like you're mentioning. If it doesn't exists we may design one (by "we" I mean the interested developers that are lurking around the forum, Smiley).

I mean desktop wallet can mint all the time, and to sync my android wallet, I can show it a QR code from desktop wallet and voila, from that point android wallet can spend coins (and all future coins) from my desktop wallet. They should be able to track their balances over the blockchain.

110% agree.

Maybe what I imagine* is not possible due to changes being sent to new generated addresses, but I'm not sure.

I'd like to have the answers of those Qs too. I'm no a cryptocoin expert; but I usually solve problems either with code or Linux servers. My employers usually give me broken code I'm not familiar with, written in <put_the_name_of_the_language_here> and then say "fix it". So, I think I'm capable to do the task. Of course, any of the developers on the forum can help. That's the beauty of Open Source.

EDIT: Improve some English expressions. It is not my native language.

+1 I agree. We need to figure out if there is one already being worked on, and if not, somebody should get started right away!
1750  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin, Energy Saving Coin *Wallet 1.7, Mandatory update! on: April 03, 2014, 08:13:52 AM
I see that some people insist that there should be a closed source android wallet. What they miss is, crypto is hard, very hard to get things right. If you can trust your money on a brand new released coin's desktop wallet (2-3 months and a few developers is nothing for critical software development), that's because it's founded on an open source codebase that has been reviewed and fixed by lots of people over the years. Lots of eyes detected lots of security flaws and then they are fixed by crypto coin community. And they continue reviewing and fixing it, albeit slowly now as the software matured (That slowdown is what makes altcoins drifting from original sources trustable)

If anyone comes up with a closed source android wallet written from scratch, I won't trust my funds in it, let alone a bounty. And I'll advise anyone against so. Who will guarantee that the brand-new wallet won't lose my money? A single dev who got a one-time bounty (3-4-5-10 btc, whatever) and then moved on with his life? No way.

Development of new crypto software requires a dev community who are continuously active. It's not 1-2 or 3 people's job, nor a one-time job. Free software provides that community. Those reviewers and contributers over the years are the reason that we can trust our money to a software.

We're not talking about a 1-2 dollar worth disposable iphone game here, it's about trusting one's investment to a piece of software.

An open source free software PoW+PoS wallet which is founded on current PoW android wallet will benefit MINT. And it will benefit MINT's investors because the software will be reviewed. Even if there are only a few developers in mint community, investors can be assured that other altcoin devs would be actively reviewing it and fixing it for their own needs. And even if there are only a few active developers left in MINT, as long as they follow what other altcoins fix in the wallet, MINT will benefit from those fixes.

It is security vs. branding. I want this coin to live, that's why I prefer security.

I agree.
Also, thank you for supplying the Ubuntu update! Tip incoming.

Seems like,

If people want a fully functional android wallet soon and for it to be released before other coins release one, it will probably need to be based on what is already open-source. If that is the case, then other people will be free to adapt it to their coins right away.

If people want a fully functional android wallet that is at least partially or temporarily exclusive to MintCoin, it will probably need to be built (more) from scratch and this may compromise being able to release it soon/first.

Yeah, you're right bro. So, since I and some others want the latter (Mintcoin only) let's see just how many resources we can throw at a bounty! I'm in for 75,000 Mintcoins for a private, custom built app. That's not a lot, but it's something. Maybe there's some of the premine bounty? Other individuals? If we can't get enough, then it fails and it'll be open source and copied immediately - that's the tradeoff.

The developer pre-mined about 70,000,000 Mint which it states is for precisely this purpose.

Why on earth would the community pay to have this built?

Do you offer auto companies money in advance to design you a new car?

DEVELOPERS - step on up and provide some transparency and accountability for the 70.000.000 you pre-mined or you're going to continue to lose people.

And that's a far worse threat than the BC trolls.

OOPS...I believe I made a mistake, th pre-mine was 700,000,000, not 70,000,000.

Surely there's enough for an android app left?

I would have made it long ago but he only offered 2.5 million mints for one.. i laughed in his pathetic face. Not only is he greedy seems he is non existant.. does he communicate in this thread??

He fixed the bug today and added a merchant so I would say he is existent. How long ago did he offer you 2.5 mil? Was it was when mint was worth >40 satoshi? Because that would have been >1 btc and was also when btc was >500 USD. Just curious, I really want to see this happen, how much do you think it will take?
It was around 10 sats near beginning of the coin.. It takes 2 weeks to do so its 3.5btc going rate.

Im working on a penny auction site right now which has potential (www.devcoinauctions.com) so I wouldnt be able to start right away until after this is done.. I have to integrate coin payments still...

Damn, I should have gone into programming...

Heh u can always do it.. I knew coding is the future although
business was is my passion.. but coding provided a means to an end to achieve those business goals.. but like anything its still  10000 hours to become good at it.. so it takes effort to be able to do things properly and not hack. You can always learn on the side so many free books online.

True words. You sound exactly like somebody I know irl who has been egging me on to learn coding on the side. I need to get on it. It really is the future. Just about any field one can work in, programming is applicable. I think I am going to start using codeacademy in my free time.

How long do you have to leave your mintcoin wallet open to earn stakes?
I havnt earned any stake on my mintcoins yet, but ive only just updated my wallet.
I dont leave my computer on 24/7 so whats the best thing to do?

How long have your coins aged for?
I usually just my wallet open for an hour or two a day.

why donate to toward a generic wallet that is going to be built first and used by everyone anyway?

the thing that makes the androids wallet something someone would pay for is if it were exclusive to MINT and you could use a tablet or mobile device to mint

otherwise it's a generic wallet app I'd probably never use

the reason to have a mint exclusive app that mints is that it make MINT something special and therefore more valuable, that's what I would be interested in paying to develop

Sure get prepared to pay 50 btc for a wallet from scratch..

U get what u pay for... Android wallet is gpl so I dont even know if you can close it since your using open source base. Alot of people still havent clued in to the open source movement.. which allowed you to even have your mintcoin.. now you want your pie and eat it too.

I think it should be open source. I will donate for that, or a private one, or any one. Or what about the possibility of cross-community funding? Considering this could be a big deal and benefit all cryptos in general. It's really kind of silly to debate until we figure out what the state is of the one that is already being worked on (is it open source or not) and how far along it is.

People need to get over thinking that there can only be either BlackCoin or MintCoin... How did this start? Like somebody said earlier, there are TONS of altcoins out there. Both MintCoin and BlackCoin have strong communities and dev teams backing them up. To me both seem to be well poised for the future. I think we have a better chance to make it in the sea of shitcoins by not tearing each other apart.

How did you see my response and know to un-ignore me if I was ignored in the first place? Doesn't that block you from seeing that I post? Or just from seeing what I post, but you can still see that I post? (This is an honest question, I've never ignored somebody before so I wouldn't know).

You continue to use homosexuality as an insult.

I have seen that website before, and have had lots of good laughs looking through it.
How about you scour some true scientific literature and provide some concrete examples?
Here are a few reputable journals to start your journey with:
http://pubs.acs.org/
http://www.sciencemag.org/
http://www.pnas.org/
http://www.nature.com/
http://www.cell.com/
http://www.embo.org/

or just use pubmed to search through the collection of all publicly accessible articles: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed

Going to retreat into the shadows again since I've already been labeled a troll for a single comment that wasn't directed at blackcoin or the community, but rather directed at an individual who I personally and professionally disagree with and whom I doubt represents the community as a whole. If nothing else, please stop using homosexual and retarded as insults- it doesn't look intelligent or professional.

Ok, so don't believe that I had ignored you?  Dumbass!

I can assure you that I had, I was still able to see that you had responded. How stupid are you?

Do you really live in such a leftwing echochamber that you are unaware that many climate scientists reject the warming theory completely?  I guess so.

I remember listening to a City Club of Cleveland debate in 2007 where the global warming theory was decisively rejected.  But I guess you are more tuned in to MSNBC.

As far as insults are concerned, I will continue to use any fucking insults I want to.  I am extremely intelligent, and have absolute contempt for whatever bourgeois values you consider 'professional'.  As Flaubert said, 'Hatred of the bourgeois is the beginning of wisdom', and I couldn't be less concerned about how I am perceived by fools like you.

Read this, idiot:

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/01/26/newsbytes-global-warming-downgraded-james-lovelock-recants/

Read the bolded text from mine and yours quotes.

City Club of Cleveland is not a scientific conference/platform.
"Sponsors non-partisan forums with guest speakers, monthly issue roundtables, and high school debate championships."
Looks like just about anybody can talk here. Did you go to a high-school debate?

That is the same website as before...
do you get all your info from a single source?

Sorry to spam the blackcoin thread again I mean it when I say I'm done this time... Peace.

Okay, that's understandable. I guess my point was if we could get all the communities to chip in then they wouldn't be benefiting from it unfairly.
