You can mine with your laptop, but energy cost > Bitcoin return
1782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi on: March 30, 2015, 06:14:16 AM
Not necessarily. If Satoshi can't use those Bitcoins in any way, at the least he'd want credit for creating Bitcoin. Satoshi already revealed himself, it's just people don't want to accept it. And he's not Dorian or Nick Szabo.

1784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins and the zombie apocalypse on: March 28, 2015, 04:51:12 PM
You mean ... REAL zombies??? Isn't "zombie apocalypse" just a name of a scenario about people in the US starting a revolution?

If THAT would occur we are good with Bitcoin I think.

he is working on bitcoin 2.0, is still behind me why he stopped posting here, unless he/they is/are dead
We don't need bitcoin 2.0 right now, maybe in the future when bitcoin will be more established. And Satoshi posted one message in 2014, when media suspected some innocent man of being Satoshi.
So he is not dead as people may think. I think he likes his godly status...

I thought the fact that it was satoshi or someone else that hacked into his account is still being questioned?
This is the last known Satotoshi's post. http://p2pfoundation.ning.com/forum/topics/bitcoin-open-source?commentId=2003008%3AComment%3A52186
People generally agree that this was real Satoshi

Only people that have no idea about signed/unsigned messages and hacked email accounts "generally" agree with that.
1786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why didn't the government leave Silk Road open... on: March 22, 2015, 09:58:54 AM
...to allow people to withdraw their coins?

Once the government identified Ross Ulbricht and had control of the Silk Road servers, why didn't they keep the site open so that people could withdraw their bitcoins? They could have blocked the ability to trade (so as to not facilitate any drug deals) and instead only allow people to log onto their accounts at the site and withdraw their funds to their own Bitcoin addresses.

This is the part I'm talking about:

Quote from: ExtremeTech
Funds held by users of the site, however, were not so well-protected. Before completing transactions on the Silk Road, users would load Bitcoins into an escrow account on the site. The agreed upon coins would only be transferred to the seller’s private wallet once the buyer had verified delivery of the goods. When the feds took over the Silk Road, there were over 26,000 Bitcoins in user accounts that were relatively easy to snatch up.

The FBI has transferred all 26,000-plus seized Bitcoins to its own personal wallet, but because Bitcoin transactions are tracked publicly, it didn’t take the internet long to find the FBI’s wallet address. Users have taken to transferring tiny fractions of a Bitcoin to the FBI with public comments attached decrying the war on drugs and the arrest of Ulbricht. Users have even helpfully tagged the wallet address as “Silkroad Seized Coins.” You can check out the comments as they come in by watching the blockchain for the FBI’s wallet.

They seize money from 8 ys old children ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=985596.0 ) , so what you expect from the "behemouth of the state" in case of an online crackhouse?

Humanity is acting much like a virus anyway, so Bitoin might rather be the antidote.

A new chapter in “The Silk Road Tales and Archives” was posted by @lamoustache On Reddit, this time its about Ross Ulbricht’s “mentor” Variety Jones”:

This is our take on Variety Jones and a complex story going way back to the legendary cannabis grow site overgrow.com to some more recent events involving a “megabyte megalomaniac” mongoose, an iconic forum administrator and an ex-actor converted in the cannabis seed trade.

I meant around that time Steven Sadler aka "Nod" was arrested end of July 2013. There have been some more arrests short before that.
1792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is "Variety Jones"? on: February 28, 2015, 08:06:43 AM
Variety Jones hit SR with a huge splash of 17 pages of listings . I had a lot of contact with him almost from day one . He pretended to be in the UK but it became obvious he was American . He placed orders with me via a buyer account but made " mistakes " that identified that account as being his . Before he disappeared he offered me his business , lock stock and barrel , after a lot of thought I said thanks but no . I believe he was an FBI befriender .

Interesting post.
What mistakes he made to reveal his nationality?
What made you think he was involved with the FBI?

As I said there was a lot of PM's and they were over a good period of time . There was always something a little odd that I couldn't put my finger on but in my mind he ( I'm assuming ) seemed an OK person . In 1 PM there was a reference to some law that I was unfamiliar with  ( a particular name associated with )  so I looked it up and it was US , it fitted well with his manner of speech and the more I looked the more likely it was that VJ was American . With hindsight I think he was LE , Cannabis seeds widely available and aren't illegal in many Countries , so for an LE officer to get involved with trading them isn't such a huge leap off the cliff ( Unlike Nod , look it up ) . His stock was massive and he offered good prices , good service and a very solid guarantee . Off the top of my head 17 pages x 25 listings ( I think ) =  425 different seeds of which he always had a few units in stock , that represents an investment of approx £20,00 ( don't quote me these are rough figures ) . Again with hindsight , I believe he used this large presence to work his way in with DPR . I came in after the first round of publicity , so not an original but an early adopter . This stuff was all bright shiny and new for 90% of us but after a few scammers it became apparent that anybody trying to carve out a larger than usual niche was someone to be wary of but I didn't put VJ into that catergory till later

He offered me his stock ( +$250,00 his figure ) with a view to either sell off or restock as my choice . He was off to hike the Machu Picchu trails and live as a digital nomad ( his words ) . This contradicted what he'de previously said about using weed to ease his multiple sclerosis . I gave it serious thought but there was no way of getting this stock cleanly so said no . I believe this was his last play to get as much as possible out of this profile/persona before he retired it .

None of this is conclusive but I believe it to be true .

This makes sense. I had FBI added in my list in my OP already, exactly because of what you are describing PLUS some more:

- He was eager to get in touch with Ross
- He sold only seeds (legal in some US states and other countries)
- He is more likely to be an american, than a british citizen

- He had the ability to kinda brainwash Ross (psychological training)
- He had over average computer skills to find security holes. (A very good reason why Ross would be interested to stay in contact with VJ. LE would have a lot of control over the sites source code and all sellers/buyers, in case VJ was hired to close the sec holes.

You remember the time VJ offered you to buy his stock? Was it before or after the first arrests of some SR vendors?

This looks like combinaton between Silkroad & Wikileaks
I think this could be a amazing project Roll Eyes

But, most things already leaked for free

But, will it be the same, when people find out, they can sell their leaks, instead of giving them away for free?

The US has control of the internet, communications satellites, and everything else we use to communicate electronically

Even more: most, if not all of the high end technology and cryptography, hard- and software is controlled by the US. Not because the US scientists are inventing more than ones from other countries, but because for centuries they were smart in detecting new promising technology and inventions worldwide. They took things serious, when all the other countries were sleeping. Who visited Gavin Andresen, because they wanted to know about this "Bitcoins"? Russians? Chinese? Germany? No! It was the US. If there is something new, they will want to know about it. If it is either helpful or a thread for the national security, they will take it over with the necessary force.
1799  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NSA hid spying software in hard drive firmware on: February 18, 2015, 07:49:14 AM
Looks like U.S. goverment lost controll and NSA is now in charge. I am not conspiracy theory fanatic but how to explain all that. Land of the free is becoming land of slaves and drones infecting whole world with their controll freak shit.

US gov + US industry loves the NSA! They have gained huge advantages over the worldwide competitors due to the work of the NSA.
1800  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NSA hid spying software in hard drive firmware on: February 17, 2015, 07:38:54 PM
Why does this surprise you? I was actually expecting something like this. The NSA just forces things like this on manufacturers.
You could prevent this from happening though, if you block the right outgoing traffic.

No the NSA does not force this on manufacturers. The manufactures do this because they believe they can get away with spying on their customers and selling the fruits of their spying for profit to marketers. Another very common motivation for manufactures to spy on their customers is DRM and "intellectual property protection". Agencies like the NSA come in much later. They realize the manufactures have valuable data and make a deal with the manufactures for access to that data.

As for blocking the outgoing traffic yes on can do this but one must take over control of one's network and computing devices. The best way to do this is using Free Software. What actually happens is that one can build a Free Software jail around the propriety software "appliance". This can allow the owner to then use the appliance while blocking or controlling the malicious features in the appliance’s propriety software. It then becomes a battle for control between the owner and the appliance with each one trying to control the other.

Edit1: This process is completely voluntary. The iSheep for example provide data to Apple on a voluntary (they clicked I agreee on Apple's EULA) basis. Apple also provides the data to the NSA on a voluntary basis to the NSA via the PRISM program. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM_%28surveillance_program%29. This is why many libertarians simply do not understand the real nature of the threat.

There is no big business without national interest. If you have a tech company and make millions, you are making part of national security already. Intel IS part of the national security since the 70s. You think Bill Gates would have sold his OS, if he refused the offer from the guys in the black suits back in the days?

Same with Seagate, IBM, WD, Samsung, Sony, GB, MSI and a lot more.

Bill Gates did not just sell out to the United States. He also sold out to China and Russia among others. Ever wonder where all that Chinese hacking of Windows that has been traced back to the PLA came from? It is hardly surprising that Microsoft Windows has become such a cesspool of malware.

IF Bill sold out to others than the US, this would make part of the US foreign policy. Means, the NSA still would have the power to access every computer worldwide.
