Wall of text

I totally second that.
In this kind of service, impeccable user support is of uttermost importance.
Reliability over protocol must be accompanied to reliability when there are problems, big or small.
I don't know if Gazeta was referring to me, but I experienced the same kind of problems reported by Gazeta. Only with less emails back and forth from WW ( and also having a smaller stash over there).

Twitter is mad at the following:

Apparently, in PayPal USD the issuer can enter an “asset protection mode” and “block” and “seize” assets.
In addition to that it can raise the max issued limit without any problems.

A lot of criticism about these features: “Bitcoin has fixed max issuance”, “Not your Keys, not your coins", "transaction censorship!" "centralisation attack vector!"

Well... what did you expect?
If PayPal just wanted a cheap, reliable, censorship-resistant way of allowing their customer to transfer economic value, they would have implemented... Lightning.

I tried today to access the Tor version of the website but it says "The connection has timed out". Besides, the clearnet version of the website is down for about 2 weeks now. Does anyone else encounter this issue?
I have just tried the TOR version and saw no changes from last time.
Saying "TOR works just fine" is an obvious overstatement.

It needs further investigation, but apparently, this is the token:

There are many fake versions, but this one appears to be held at an address labelled as Paxos.

PayPal entered the stablecoin market.
Paolo Ardoino is not impressed:

I easily can see why that: I guess targeted markets are totally different: Traders for USDT and casual holders and spenders for Py USD

In critical news Today, PayPal decided to launch its stablecoin.

PayPal becomes first major fintech to launch dollar-backed stablecoin

Quote
PayPal's stablecoin, dubbed PayPal USD, is backed by U.S. dollar deposits and short-term U.S. Treasuries and will be issued by Paxos Trust Co. It will gradually be available to PayPal customers in the United States.

It's an important news to me.
First, because this kind of issuance by private money has already been frowned upon by regulators, think about Meta so that it can be an acid test for regulators: has the stance changed since the Meta experiment?

Secondly, with high-interest rates, collecting liquidity for free and investing in Treasuries can boost PayPal revenues.

This is the contract.

Of course, this is not an isolated venture of PayPal in cryptocurrencies, as they have been quite active in the past, as you may recall.

PayPal to allow cryptocurrency buying, selling and shopping on its network

I am on the move today; I will update this OP with more relevant information later.

Unfortunately, I likely won’t be able to get on to it over the coming few weeks since I won’t have enough hands-on dedicated linear time.

Update 04/08/2023:

Apparently, linear times doesn't apply to a certain class of people humans AI entities

A questo servono gli hack di device ad avere zombie nella botnet da scagliare contro un obiettivo

Beh, anche cloudflare serve a quello no?

And you want to buy their Bitcoin ETF!.... Think again! #NYKNYB

Dude...nobody here will ever buy a spot ETF but millions of investors would love using it without having to worry about self custody or figuring out how to use an exchange. That's the whole meaning of it about spot ETF's.

Don't forget there are a lot of investors that cannot buy Bitcoin because of restrictive investment mandates, for example, which instead could buy an ETF. This is unlocking a significant investment mass to Bitcoin.

Thanks for the modifications of the earlier table, thanks for the spreadsheet, thanks for the instructions, and thanks for the various consultations.

You are welcome. I am gladly helping you provide value for the forum.

<...>
So showing the full 8 digits after the decimal happens ONLY with single digit bitcoin and with zero digit bitcoin, and I suppose that is acceptable to the extent that getting into satoshis might not really matter as much with those larger BTC amounts.

I plead guilty to that, I took the initiative to a visually appalling sorting and, of course, because when dealing with a high number of coins, the precision to the last satoshi could be an overkill.

I know in Excel I can say how many digits after the decimal that I want to show, and I can probably limit the number of digits per cell.. but whatever formula or combinations of formulas, I could not figure out how to do it,
In the Spreadsheet, look at cell V12.
The formula is
Code:
 text(G12,"##,##0.00000000")
meaning :"Format cell G12 as a number with thousand separator , decimal separator . and 8 decimal places (0 instead of # forces to display 8 decimal places even ith redundant 0's).
Try to experiment yourself with this if you want to change.

Ragarding the error with BB code be sure to past all the green cells, included the opening command [ table ] and the closing one [ / table]. In case you are still experiencing the problem, please sent me the code via PM so I can try to figure out what is happening.

I have not really worked very much with google spreadsheets, but it does seem pretty similar to Excel.  Also, if I get a bit more used to Google Spreadsheets, it seems like it could potentially save me in some of my other real world cases in which I have been saving Excel spreadsheets with people, and then we go back and forth in regards to how and which changes are made...

I almost stopped using Excel for personal uses, and I am using Sheets only. THey are ubiquitous, platform agnostic, and there is a complete versioning of the file, being able to revert every single version you want to restore (File=>Version History=>See Version History=>Click on the desired Version=>Restore This Version

Actually, I was got carried away this week with some other stuff, and planned to delay this specific update a day or two. Nonetheless, whilst (now) proceeding with the update, I’ve just encountered that one of my scraping processes that uses a third-party product is now blocked by Cloudflare, giving one of those "sorry you have been blocked" type messages.

I’ll probably have to implement/port the specific affected process in python (as some of my other processes are), but it will take some time. Unfortunately, I likely won’t be able to get on to it over the coming few weeks since I won’t have enough hands-on dedicated linear time.

Don’t get me wrong, but in the above picture you were doing exactely that: processing Pyton code in your AI in order to make the dashboard even better.

Since when AI sunbathe?

Take your convolute exponential linear time.

1795  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: August 05, 2023, 12:40:31 PM

But the point is if an ETF is approved, Bitcoin will surge then expand the value of MicroStrategy's balance sheet, therefore making the actual value of MSTR go up. But if MSTR is sold because "reasons" and its price crashes down, THEN the stock is undervalued because of MicroStrategy's surging Bitcoin in the company's vaults. It will be a golden investment

I didn't suggest shorting MSTR outright, I said shorting vs Buying GBTC.
In case of a Bitcoin really post ETF approval, you want to be long GBTC, not Microstrategy. The latter will always have a (negative) overhead over bitcoin valuation. So there will no point holding it once an ETF is approved.

I see the merit dashboard hasn’t been updated yet this week.
I guess someone is taking a well-deserved vacation!

Happy holiday @ddmrddmr, and thank you for your relentless effort toward the forum!

I've heard a lot about the potential of Bitcoin as a store of value. Can someone explain how its scarcity and decentralized nature contribute to its value proposition?

I guess you can find a lot of answers to your questions navigating the resources I collected in the linked thread:

5 Resources to teach Average Joe about Bitcoin

Hope it helps.

All the corrections and modifications have been made.
Here is the link to the spreadsheet

You can open it, view it, and if you want to modify anything, select "Make a copy" under the "File" menu. In such a way, you don't even need to communicate anything to me, nor will I ever be able to know when/if/how you made a local copy.

1800  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: JJG’s Outline of Bitcoin Investment Ideas on: August 04, 2023, 05:56:17 PM

I hate to point out another mistake in your latest table, and to appear like an overly nit-picking kurmugeon turd, but there was a use of the same numbers in the BTC Bottom column and in the $amnt∆ column... In other words, the $amnt∆ column information was not there.
This is embarrassing. Believe or not, I did the previous correction via mobile, in an effort of productivity that apparently ended up in failure.
Let me deal with some IRL related issues, and I will correct them.
I also thought I can share with everybody the spreadsheet used to create that table. I think there are no downside to this (potential upside: someone find a smarter way of doing what I do).
