"Multi-quote; use it, holmes...or are you trying to boost your post count so some poor soul may be naive enough to trust you and become your first customer?

So, if it's not a scam, what does your service do to protect the wallet more than say, hitting the wallet.dat with truecrypt and putting said USB drive in a drawer? Cause it sounds like a scam. I would not hand my cash to a stranger on a promise that he'd hold onto it. Why in the hell would I do it with my autism kroners?"

Not everyone wants to go through all the steps of truecrypting it is a huge hassle securing a wallet.dat. I'm not claiming this is perfect for everyone so  if you know what you are doing by all means go ahead run the risk of losing your wallet not a problem. A online wallet is no different I mean look at mybitcoin  someone here entrusted them at some point ?

Regular quote; use it correctly, holmes. Sorry...I am not trying to rag on you, but you set your self up too well.

No service is for everyone. Who is your service for? You have got to be cognizant of the fact that your proposal reeks of scam on every level, yet nothing you say really claims anything to the contrary. What scenario would sending your untraceable cash to a stranger be a good idea, and paying him $20 for the pleasure to boot.

BTW, I am now accepting people's gold. I will stuff it between my mattress and box-spring and maybe give it back to you when you ask, all for the low low price of $50USD per kilo.

LOL! This is hilarious. you have just stated the *perfect* reason not to trust your service *either*. You could easily be the same guy posting under a new name.

No, I'm not the owner of Mybitcoin  Shocked  It's perfectly fine you don't have to trust my service as I stated it isn't perfect for everyone but at some point someone trusted mybitcoin  at some point right ? Have to start somewhere Smiley

Who wants to use it? Why? Pray, tell us.

You forget that the only thing that will entice a company into doing this is profit. Where is the profit in your model? That was my point...no one is going to sink millions into this with no end game other than your convenience.
1783  Other / Meta / Re: A blind eye to scams on the forum? Moderators? on: July 31, 2011, 04:08:41 AM
A wallet backup service claiming to offer "insurance" offered by an anonymous person who can be contacted only by a webmail address is a prima facie scam.  Prior versions of this website, such as the one present when I made the original post in June, claimed that sending him your wallet file actually protects you from theft, and offered to insure the wallet against any kind of theft.  Such a claim is ridiculous and should be an obvious red flag.

What is the difference between:

  • A service provided by a stranger on the Internet which holds on to my wallet.dat and promises not to do anything naughty with it.
  • A service provided by a stranger on the Internet which sends me a new printed wallet.dat and promises to delete any temporary copies they might have of it.
  • My bank, which asks me to hand them all my money and assures me that it'll always be there when I want it back.

Ok, my bank at least has a local brick and mortar branch for me to burn down if they steal my money, but otherwise I don't see how any one of those items screams "SCAM!" any more than the others. They all rely on trusting strangers with my money.

Personally, I do not presently have any reason to want to hand somebody else my wallet.dat for safekeeping, because I think I can can protect it well enough myself. Still, it seems interesting to me to see a claim that a hold-on-to-your-wallet service must be a scam, coming from somebody who asks me to give them money in order to obtain a wallet.dat that they had access to. I think I'll pass on both services.

Thanks for being fair-minded and this service isn't for everyone but could be beneficial to people who are just starting out in bitcoins and don't know how to do all the necessary steps to protect their wallets. Obviously, if we are a "scam" then there should be plenty of people who can come forward to say we are - do you see any ?   People are to trigger happy to start calling people a scam!  Embarrassed

1784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We should rename "miner" as "auditor". on: July 31, 2011, 03:53:28 AM
You need to consider that if bitcoin is picked up by the general public, how it's actually produced will be rather irrelevant, as will the terms 'miner' or 'auditor' to the end user. They just want their latte...not all of them are going to have an ASIC rack in their closet...

On a side note, I rarely describe the process as 'mining', I always find myself referring to it as hashing...
1785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bit Coin Vending Machine on: July 31, 2011, 03:37:25 AM
This is nothing but a pipe dream. Think of the infrastructure needed to build, distribute, maintain and keep records on a number of machines that would actually reach a useful number of people. Armored cars to pick up the cash and load the change dispensers, the cards themselves would be expensive to produce if they were counterfeit resistant...that's a lot of man-hours and a lot of equipment costs for exactly what benefit? It needs to be profitable for anyone to be interested in funding it.

Step 1: Sink millions and millions of dollars into a BTC vending machine infrastructure
Step 2: Huh
Step 3: Bankruptcy
1786  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: iWantFreeBitcoins.com is NOT a SCAM :) (At least 5 Verified Payouts :D) on: July 31, 2011, 03:26:01 AM
OK....I finally got paid.....
Changes made Smiley Come on mate, could be a little more excited you got free bitcoins....

The new offer provider has begun to be incorporated.  A few of the offers are now from them.  They release more offers over time so I'll keep adding them.

I'm looking for more things to add.

I've seen a few sites out where you can complete simple tasks for rewards/points.  Would anyone be interested in similar things?

Tasks are usually things like comment/favorite a youtube video, like on facebook, +1 on google, or write a few 100 words on a topic.

If people want these kinds of tasks I can set them up.  It will be my own system Smiley so it should be alot more reliable than external offer operators.

Those weren't free bitcoins if he worked for them.

Am I to understand that you have a fluctuating exchange rate as far as your 'bitpoints' to btc? And people have used your service? -insert shaking head smiley here-
1787  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Spamming Is Out of Control on: July 31, 2011, 02:58:40 AM
Hey Mods,

The signature spamming is getting out of control on the forum. It's not the majority but it is getting to the point it is adding a definite spam feel to the threads as well as making it difficult to read. I submit to you a prime example. The signature has super bright colors and three different spam ads in the signature. The subject is pure BS to draw in people.

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=32755.0

Can we please modify the TOS or limit the spam ability in the signature boxes?

Seriously? There are too many colors, it's hurting my eyes (in a huckleberry hound voice). I find asinine threads to detract from the experience much more than any banner in someone's sig.
1788  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do we get the women on board? on: July 30, 2011, 02:43:31 AM
LOL. I have matching lingerie and I also have some slutty underwear (trust me, they're not the same thing). The latter was bought for me by a guy who only got to see me wear it so his feelings wouldn't get hurt.

I love it when men think they know women oh so very well. Cheesy
I love it when women think every other woman is exactly like them.
I don't think all women are like me. Not even most of my women friends are me or like each other. But when it comes to women's underwear, many men don't seem to know the difference between classy and brassy (nor, for that matter, sexy and slutty), but their wives and girlfriends tend to put up with it anyway.
Tongue

Women in their underwear are sexy. That's that. When those underwear become exotic in any form, they become slutty, by my reckoning. Maybe I am too naive.
1789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining at a loss: Insurmountable Problem in the near future or am I mistaken? on: July 30, 2011, 02:40:41 AM
Not only should this thread be in "Mining", but there is the overlooked aspect of miners whose gear is completely paid off, so they don't really care as much about margin compression from difficulty or price.

Anyway, I love the delicious irony of threads started by people who say they have no vested interest, but presume to tell everyone exactly how things are going to be. Is it just an ego thing?

Seriously. I am also blown away that people consider the power bill to be a huge hindrance to someone who is established and employed. $100 a month is about the cheapest hobby you can find, short of picking up shinies you find on the street. Makes me think that there might be a huge chunk of users here who haven't entered the real world yet.

Let's ask them to accept bitcoins!!!

http://chicapparel.info/index.php

That would be awesome Wink

Right, because women LOVE slutty underwear (and whhich is why their men tend to buy it for them more than they tend to buy it for themselves).
 Roll Eyes

Are you kidding? Every ladyfriend I've ever had has had at least some slutty underwear she would bust out with, even the really quiet, unassuming ones.

I don't know how I can come off not sounding like an asshole here, so here it goes. I am not saying I know women 'oh so well', I am just saying that I have slept with a fair amount of women and every single one of them busted out slutty underwear at some point, and they haven't all been sluts. I am only speaking from experience, nothing more. I didn't buy the slutty underwear for them, and I doubt that other men purchased them for every single one of them.

My current girlfriend with whom I have lived for two years occasionally comes home with something skanky from Victoria Secret or wherever women purchase such things.

I pity the woman who ends up with any of the misogynistic assholes in this thread.

I challenge you to quote someone being blatantly misogynistic in this thread.

You would pity yourself if you saw my package. Bam!
1793  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining at a loss: Insurmountable Problem in the near future or am I mistaken? on: July 30, 2011, 01:09:58 AM

Granted.  I'm out of here for this and other reasons.

Opposing viewpoints are not tolerated on a forum that pretends to promote 'freedom' and 'liberty'.  Only freedom and liberty to chant the dogma into an echo chamber of other ignorant drones who literally have never read any history book that didn't massage their already preconceived notions.

The incredulous nature of the average user here is starting to rub off on me, I'm off to greener pastures.

To those who will listen take it or leave it.

We'll see who is right.

I agree that the forum is a troll's nest, but what is your end game with starting this thread? Did you think that everyone would be like, "Yeah, dude, you're totally right. We're all out!" or what?

You sure used a lot of words to say 'I hate you guys I'm not playing anymore!'.

Well that shows how little you know about genetics...

Yep, I know substantially more in software development rather than in genetics Smiley Let's be straight: there are 2 (two) parties involved in a birth of a new life: spermatozoids and ovum. One is male, another is female. Please tell me who is the third party there Smiley

The third party is the party host who threw a party, thereby allowing two parties to meet where, later that evening, spermatozoid meets ovum, bringing an end to the party. But there is a happy ending to this story. The little rascal grows up and, not ever seeing a dollar bill, spends his hard earned Bitcoin on stuff--stuff he don't need.

Bitcoin: For the Other Stuff

This is a much better explanation that I gave.

Bitcoin: It's probably not gonna get you laid...

I am out on the bitcoin skirts...the two attractive women who have posted their likeness' are probably not the status quo. I'll take my chances with the bar skanks...

e: we should all keep bumping this so it stays next to the 'How do we get some women here" thread in the list.

A mule is the sterile hybrid of a donkey and a horse. Just because a donkey and a horse went in, the mule doesn't exist?

The same goes for human genetics...a male and female gamete form an embryo, but what comes out is by no guarantee what went in. As one terrifying example, look up human chimerism. It is very possible for portions of your body to be female and portions of it to be male.
1798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining at a loss: Insurmountable Problem in the near future or am I mistaken? on: July 29, 2011, 10:44:33 PM
As we've seen it only takes someone with about 4% of the supply of BTC to completely crash the price to $0.01, that is the kind of downward pressure compounded with the lack of liquidity that can be brought to bear.

When did we see this?

No idea.  I'm guessing some time in 2009?

We didn't...

When did we see this?

The MtGox hack was a sell off of a single account with about 4% of the entire BTC volume.  This isn't a point to say that this was a legitimate trade or anything like that, but it did show that there wasn't enough of a countervailing force (liquidity) to absorb that sell off.

Leads me to believe that if any other person with 100k in BTC were to even sell it off via a darkpool it would cost more downward pressure in the market than we are already experiencing.

Nope. Why don't you read up on that one again?

Human on planet Earth may be strictly male or female. Disorders, changed sex, different orientation are just anomalies, which would still end up in male or female sex.
No. Even though a lot of 'Other' answerers are probably trolls, gender can truly be a very difficult issue in some cases,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender#Legal_status

Sure, but it's a question of legal procedures, local and state laws and other bureocracy. Certainly, there could be more ways than just http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_sex-determination_system, however from human genetics point of view, it could only be XX or XY (YY is impossible).

So, ok, well for legal point of view "Other" could be used for that 1 out of 1,000,000 whose gender could not have been legally established. I laugh at those trolls who specified "Other" just for fun Wink

Well that shows how little you know about genetics...
