1781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Exchange buying/selling on: September 01, 2017, 11:01:33 AM
think of exchanges as Auctions. but instead of everyone buying there are two groups. 1 group selling and the other buying the same thing.

when you have something to sell, you place a sell order and "ASK" for an amount you think is fair in return. aka placing orders.
or you can just look who is buying and sell it directly to them. aka sell to the highest bidder.

when you want to buy something, you place a buy order and "BID" for it in an amount that you think is fair.
or the same here you can find who is selling and buy from them at a higher price.

an exchange is just a platform that helps these people meet each other and make the trades fast and easy. and takes a fee for providing that platform for them.
1782  Economy / Speculation / Re: When do you think the BTC correction is coming? Is a crypto crash coming? on: September 01, 2017, 10:54:39 AM
i sometimes wonder what different people who ask questions like this imagine a "correction" is. i hope OP can shed some light on this.

what do you expect out of a correction? lets assume price is $5000 right now. how big a drop and in what time frame would you call a "correction"?

down to $4800? $4500? $4000? $3000? maybe $1000? or maybe 2 digits again?
a 5% drop? a 10%? 20%? 50%? more?
1 day? a week? a month? how long should this drop last before the next rise so you consider it a correction?

Bolded - Simply never going to happen.

There will be a correction, there always is but they've been microscopic lately in the big scale. Bitcoin goes up up up, zoom out and look at a chart since inception.

i am not asking what will or will not happen!
i am asking what they expect out of a "correction". i am just trying to figure out why people don't see the corrections that have already been happening.
for example the 20% drop that happened from that time's ATH 9-10 days ago. wasn't that a correction? or should price drop sharp down to a ridiculously low number and stay there for 6 months so that they can call it "correction"?
1783  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does an ICO team even matter? on: September 01, 2017, 10:50:18 AM
it depends on how much money they want to raise!
usually it doesn't matter at all, you may as well be alone and anonymous and take the money and run Wink
but at some point when you want to ask for more money, you have to put a little bit more effort in too! a bigger team, maybe throw in some big names even fake. it is all publicity stunts to attract more investors.

so far none of the old ICOs have done anything useful with the money the have gotten. and that shows people don't care about where each of these go as long as they make profit.

1785  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Riding the crypto hype strategy on: August 31, 2017, 10:51:20 AM
Let's be honest. Valuations are higher. ETH and BTC are way higher.
"high" is just a meaningless adjective here. higher warrants a comparison. what price are you comparing these to?
yes ETH is worth much higher than it really should be.
no BTC is far less than it really should be worth.

Quote
For ETH and BTC the price is a function of adoption.
true.
but you should break down that adoption to see what it really means.
for BTC adoption means 2 different groups.
1) new investors who saw the potential and the good performance so far and have invested to get rich over night. these contribute to the rise a little but will never sustain the rise because they will dump and cash out as soon as they reach their desired profit or as soon as a FUD is heard or a dip happens.
2) the real adoption. which is all those people who see bitcoin as a currency (on top of being an investment). all the merchants that have been adopting it as a payment method for example.

for ETH the adoption means 2 groups:
1) the same as 1 above, those who thought they can get rich over night and will dump as soon as they get their profit or the price recovers because they bought in a bubble.
2) those who want to participate in an ICO. and this is the worst thing. all these little buys push the price up and all gather inside 1 pocket, a pocket that will dump these free coins on the market eventually. and when the ICO scam season ends this type of demand which was 90% of the price rise will be eliminated.

Quote
If you look at the metrics you will see that ETH went up together with increase of ETH adresses, # of transations etc. Same with Bitcoin.
no it is not at all the same.
the price rise created a FOMO feeling for ETH which causes a rise for a short term and it disappears just as fast. and most of the people who invested are currently in a loss. they mostly went down to -50% loss and they have recovered back up to -20% now. this is the performance that majority have seen so far in the past months.

Quote
For the rest of the coins is soo hard to tell if they are worth holding maybe apart from a few privacy coins. At current I don't think owning any coin apart from ICOs, ETH and BTC is wise.
you don't know any because you have never looked. you just saw a coin being hyped and you are probably one of those who bought in the bubble and currently is in a loss, that is why you can't see anything else.

i can name at least a dozen coins that were profitable in the past week alone and this is the trading board you are in by the way.
1786  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I have 250 ETH, Hold or SELL? on: August 31, 2017, 10:41:33 AM
my approach to altcoins is always a trader's approach when i never hold any of them for long term. i am a bitcoin hodler after all. i am just increasing my bitcoin share of 21 million because it has a cap!

if you want my advice, i say you should never hold ethereum for long term. it has rises from time to time but it is small and it has more drops than rises.
if you are looking for profit it usually is elsewhere and when you tie up your money in ETH, you miss all that opportunity.
1787  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: the value of a coin. on: August 31, 2017, 10:33:06 AM
It's a good question. Some scam alt-coins calculate it this way.

1. Pre-mine 10,000 dumcoins.
2. Sell one to your buddy for $120.
3. Now advertise dumcoin as having a 1.2 million dollar marketcap.
4. Vacuum up money from people who can't do math.
 Grin

1. i wish it was 10,000! it is millions. 72 million pre mine as an example
2. you pay the exchange (cough...polo...cough...niex) to do it for you
3. exactly
3.1. advertise the shit out of the coin all over the internet. specifically say "dumcoin is going to replace bitcoin"
4. or greedy people who thought they have hit the jackpot.
1788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you look for in a new coin? on: August 31, 2017, 10:12:39 AM
So, I've been thinking about looking into developing a coin at some stage.
I'd like to know what everyone looks for when supporting a new coin?
What kind of things do you like?
What don't you like?

it depends on what i want out of that coin Wink
i gave up on any new technology a long time ago. now i am looking for more profit. so i look for a coin that has the most potential for rising. aka pump-ability, so if they have a good advertising team and lots of shills and if i can find it before the pump i will be interested.

but on rare occasions i find some interesting concepts too. for example i find GBYTE very interesting. the DAG is a new and interesting concept to me, it also has anonymous transactions.
so to answer your main question, i will be interested if the new coin actually contributes something to advancement of cryptocurrencies, not just clone another coin.
i also prefer 0 premine, 0 ICO, a good distribution from block 0 without any hidden coins for the dev or anything like that.
1789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The new Bitcoin on: August 31, 2017, 10:02:58 AM
something that has an ICO can not even come close to 1/1000000th of bitcoin.

and your comment here, the way you are saying it, proves without a doubt that this is another thing trying to make a quick buck from the community's naiveté.
when you start your comment by playing on emotions and mentioning things like bitcoin price and how it went up, your intentions are more than clear.

What will increase the Demand for the coin?
The coin needs to be the driver of the ecosystem, it must be clear what is the use of the coin.
the answer doesn't even relate to the question.
what increases the demand for a coin is its usability. bitcoin IS being used in real world like a currency and that is what is increasing its price.
1790  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: November real test for Bitcoin ? on: August 30, 2017, 12:57:06 PM
Hello Guys , i am planning to invest in Bitcoin but after doing some research i found that some experts are suggesting that we can see more fluctuation in the month of November as Bitcoin can have another hardfork somewhere around in Novemeber when Block 494,784 gets mined.
November is 3 months from now and in that time a lot of things can change. and also until that time bitcoin will probably have more rise until October and then start having issues with the FUD.

remember the month of July and read all the topics with "Aug 1" in their titles. the same thing can happen.

Quote
Segwit2x Team plans to enable the Bitcoin's miners to run new software at block 494,784 and if its enacted it can create another hardofork for Bitcoin.
is that block height set now? i really want to know, this is the first time i am seeing a solid date for the hard fork to be honest.

Quote
So what does this means for us investors , worst fluctuation that we saw in the month of July or the prices will only fall to the current level ?
the same as August fork, it is hard to say at this point. the closer we get to that date (like 1 month before) things will become more heated up and then at some point it will be clear what will happen. because most people involved (like miners, etc) wait for the last minute to voice their support or no support!
and everyone enjoys the FUD and drops it brings. it is like summer sale all over again, this time called winter sale Smiley
1791  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What do you guys think about the NEO dip? on: August 30, 2017, 12:48:58 PM
it has 2 main reaosns:
1. it was pumped hard and it needed to come down. so the dip that we see here is the result of that, and also there is the panic sell because of a dump that started because of the ATH of it.
2. bitcoin price is rising again, and each time bitcoin price goes up, the altcoins get dumped hard like this.

but pay attention because just like a huge pumpe has a big dump after it, the same way a huge dump like this has a big recovery after it too. which means price will reverse and come up when it reaches the bottom.

very good point, in fact i made a 10% profit from the bottom when price first fell down to 0.007BTC yesterday (it was about 12% recovery). but i got out early and i am glad since i got my profit and price still went lower.

i currently have some buy orders below 0.007BTC but i am not sure if they are going to be filled or not. if it takes too long i will remove them to wait for either a sharp drop to buy or a start of a rise to buy higher and make the profit from the next rally.
1792  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: MCAP - Exponential return till Nov 2017 on: August 30, 2017, 12:42:20 PM
this coin is not listed on major exchanges and the only two that i could recognize from its list of exchanges on coinmarketcap.com were c-cex and novaexchange and c-cex website these days doesn't even open up properly!

this coin has a decent daily volume but it seems to be on a downtrend so far. it has lost 25% of its value in the past 7 days from $2 to $1.5

it may get a pump because of its high volume but i won't expect a big one because it is listed on small exchanges and also i would invest if the rise started not before, because there is a bigger chance of $1.5 going to $1 compared to chance of $1.5 going to $2+
1793  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Infographic] Is this how Bitcoin gets to $500,000? on: August 30, 2017, 12:28:50 PM
i don't like the government involvement and the regulation that things like ETF and including it in 401k stuff brings. it would have been good if it was from any other country but since we are talking about US, it can not be that good. in fact it may even be restrictive too!

but irregardless of that, the price will rise on the same path and the comic rocket is showing, a fast rise which will only speed up as time passes.
1794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do I know what wallet i can use for different crypto currencies and tokens? on: August 30, 2017, 12:13:50 PM
For example i have come to understand that LTC cant be stored in a ether wallet but it can in a bitcoin wallet.  is this correct?
no it is not correct. every altcoin needs its own wallet because they have separate chains and different ways of creating the keys needed for sending and receiving funds. exceptions may apply that i don't know about but i can assure you they don't apply to LTC and BTC.

Quote
How would i know how to store new token generated from a ICO?

Is it depending on whether the crypto currency is using a ethereum block chain or a bitcoin blockchain.
i am not so much of an ICO expert so maybe someone else can fill you in on this. but ICOs are based on ethereum platform so they use that and have nothing to do with bitcoin. (not yet anyways, the RSK is not released yet)

Quote
LTCU was released recently, is it safe to assume that this can only be stored in a bitcoin wallet?
i checked it out and it is a new altcoin and has little to do with litecoin and nothing to do with bitcoin!
and you need to download the wallet they give you.
read the comments in their announcement, the wallets seems to have a virus in it!
1795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How are cryptocurrencies priced? on: August 28, 2017, 12:06:35 PM
Supply and Demand.

but what this means is a bit complicated!
Supply is the coins that are on the market, or are being sold. not just the number that statistics show as the "supply". sometimes these two numbers are the same and sometimes real supply is lower. because of premine and other reasons.

the demand is the money that is willing to buy the coins on the market. but it can also be fake too, like the fake walls they put up a little deep that will never be filled but just make the illusion of a demand! or the pump and dumps where a pumping group start buying that coin (fake demand) and causes a fast rise.

but anything fake also has a short lifetime too. the reality will hit the market eventually. you can see this in the form of pumped altcoins getting dumped hard and all those fake walls and FOMO buys vanish into thin air and be replaced by huge sell orders that clean up orderbooks fast.
1796  Economy / Speculation / Re: When kwukduck says bitcoin will surge, SELL EVERYTHING on: August 28, 2017, 11:57:23 AM
Coming soon to your homes! On your tablets, smartphones and PCs/MACs.

Did kwukduck even predicted once a surge ?

no actually he has never done that. at least not on this account.
i have actually went through his post history once and even made a topic of all the "hits" he has made for years and missed, it is all fun Smiley

1797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miners break NY Agreement one month now and already fork Bitcoin on: August 28, 2017, 11:46:19 AM
ok if is more profit then this mining cartel must keep maintenance this chain and focus to it.
actually they make more profit if they don't support it! or more precisely, if they do a half ass support Smiley
first they don't support it so the difficulty drops
then they start mining it at lower difficulty and mine about 2000 blocks in 2 days
then as soon as difficulty went up they stop supporting it.

rinse and repeat?

Quote
As i say only free market can decide if Bcash has a real usage and value.
yeah, in long term it will but in short term it is very easy to manipulate it.

Quote
In the other hand this NY agreement is a crap of paper now. Everyone has break it and everyone that agree to not fork bitcoin they support a fork of bitcoin and much worse now they transfer their hashpower and mine to this chain.
that is the greed plus the fact that there is no precautions of breaking some agreement that has been being bashed ever since it was reached!
1798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NO MORE FORKING BITCOIN on: August 28, 2017, 11:37:16 AM
I think that it is a matter of time before the market catches on to this fraud of forking, which literally billions of dollars of value from nowhere.
there is nothing wrong with forking bitcoin. there has been other forks in bitcoin throughout the history, you just never heard of any of them because the politics never got involved in any of these forks and each went smoothly and with consensus.

if you have a problem with a specific fork then come out and say it directly. fork in general is not bad and it is actually needed to move forward.

Quote
The only reason BTC has any value is that it has name recognition and a reputation for stability (compared to eth atleast). We need to save BTC from this tyranny which causes instability and goes against the fundamental of cryptos.
stability of bitcoin comes from it being decentralized and each fork being based on consensus.
for example SegWit was originally planned to fork after 95% support.
the fork for activating BIP16 (P2SH) was also after 95% support
compared to altcoins the dev decides they need a fork and releases an "upgrade" which everyone has to follow.
1799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miners break NY Agreement one month now and already fork Bitcoin on: August 28, 2017, 11:28:01 AM
it has always been about more profit. an alternative chain that has a much lower difficulty and can be reduced to a low difficulty on demand is the dream of miners. add to it the pumpability of BCH, and that is dream come true.

the 2 MB hard fork is also about more profit. a bigger block with more high fee transactions in it a lot more profit than the current one.
1800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can i spend btc from compressed wallet address by using uncompressed WIF key ? on: August 27, 2017, 10:37:06 AM
the private key is not conpressed/uncompressed. the public key is. both Kxj5... and 5JA5g... are the same thing, just represented differently. they are both a (big) number. and here is the number:
Code:
2CF24DBA5FB0A30E26E83B2AC5B9E29E1B161E5C1FA7425E73043362938B9824
but since the public key is different the bitcoin address is also going to be different.

1) these belong to two different public keys so two different addresses.
2) these are two different addresses and if someone sends funds to 1 address it will be sent to that address not something else!
3) no, you just import the key that contains the funds
4,5) no. but you can simply convert between the two. you just convert back to that number (hex above) and then get the private key that you want. you can use bitaddress.org for this.
