I was wondering with most Bitcoiners on this forum did with the majority of their time. I'm semi-employed in real life and spend a bunch of my time on the computer everyday posting on this forum to earn from signature campaigns. I spend my free time socializing with my friends and playing Half-Life 2 (reliving old memories).

I have seen this video, where it claims that Mind Reading technology is possible:

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University recently made a scientific breakthrough using machine algorithms to accurately guess what people are thinking. In other words, as the university referred to it, they have “harness[ed] ‘mind reading’ technology to decode complex thoughts.”

What is your opinion about these news? Is Mind Reading Possible? And how it will affect Bitcoin private keys? How will this affect the passwords that you hold in your brain?

There not reading minds, Some people have a gift for noticing the small details and can put the pieces together

How as an individual can I know if the Earth is a sphere or a flat disc? What experiment can I do that doesn't involve trusting information from a 3rd party that would prove what the geometry really is?

184  Economy / Economics / Re: Will silver ever skyrocket? on: July 25, 2017, 10:11:53 AM
people say it will go to one thousand dollars an ounce or more but if it showed signs of going that high tech companies would likely switch to cheaper metals as alternatives and phasing silver out. it probably would not sky rocket for that reason alone.

i think so many people have silver that if it did go up to one thousand dollars an ounce it would cause economic inflation.

am i mistaken or did i miss something?

The reality is Silver will not rocket to a thousand dollars. Gold will not rocket up either. They are somewhat tied  to each other although not as much as they used to be. Having said that though it is a good bet silver could get to the $50 to $100 range. I don't see gold as any better bet on a profit margin. No one knows for sure. Your best bet is to diversify in many different things.
185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to start? on: July 25, 2017, 10:01:00 AM
The first thing you need to ask yourself is if you want to invest a good amount of money and time. What a lot of people see with bitcoin mining is a get rich quick scheme, which I can tell you it is not. You'll need to invest in good hardware if you want to have a decent to good hashrate (higherhashrate = more coins), and you'll need to wait many days (45+ days) for your hardware to get you some coins, even on mining pools. Also, being good with computer hardware (as in maintenance, overclocking, and building computers) comes in very handy. If you want to invest your time and money, start looking at the how to get started topics all around the newbie and mining threads.

A fair warning, old PC's don't really mine well. Processor mining is overshadowed many times by GPU (graphics card using opencl) speed. If you want to be able to mine well, you'll need to invest in good graphic cards, like the ATI 5XXX and 6XXX serires (not mobile ones found in laptops).

I don't want to sound to deterring, but most newcomers asking these questions don't usually know what they're in for.

hello. Im sorry if im of topic.. Im new in mining. Ive been looking at bitcoin for a while now. The difficulty to mine is high bacuse of the hash rate right? The problem is im running an old pc.. Therefore, i think i want to mine other coin such as monero because of the lower hash rate. Its a good idea?

Even to mine a coin such as monero you will need good graphics cards to see any profit. It will take time to learn and you will undoubtedly make a few mistakes but if you enjoy it and you keep learning it can be profitable. As with most things, do it because it interest you and the money will follow.
186  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Superstition on: July 25, 2017, 09:52:16 AM
I just wanna know if you guys are supertitious when playing or gambling?

I will admit I'm very supertitious when going to a land based casino. Grin
1. I choose the number of parking slot that I will park. Usually it should have my favorite number 111,777 etc.
2. I don't want to wait for someone if he or she is going to go with in the casino.
3. I wear the same shirt that I won big.

And a lot more..

How about you? are you sepertitious?  Smiley

Gambling at a casino is all about statistical possibilities. No favorite shirt will change the odds.
187  Other / Off-topic / Re: Will you accept bitcoin as your salary? on: July 25, 2017, 01:03:16 AM
In Europe there is a hot new pertaining to a company whose going to introduce paying bitcoins to their employees. But given the instability of the bitcoins market value is it an advantage for the employees or an disadvantage. In my opinion this kind of payment for salary is not yet beneficial to employees not until bitcoins price has become stabled. Though if bitcoin will start to increase its monetary value it can be advantageuos but if not then it is a peril to the employees. So what do you think, what is your opinion on this matter?

I will accept

What if it was the sacrificed child of your enemy? What if it gave you secret powers? What if it held the key to world domination? Would you do it? Would you eat another person?

No one knows how they would respond in this situation. I am quite the Donner party and the team in the Andes Mountains thought they would never result to cannibalism. So I would say no however under extreme conditions people do not tend to be in a normal state of mind so who knows what any of us would do.

2017 edit: Russia v USA: Global Nuclear Showdown (2017)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeLrKDAn1x8

. . .
If you vote, please state some reasons. I think Russia and China will win because they have more resources, manpower and gold plus autocratic leadership.

edit:
Please don't spam "everybody will lose" or "next war will be sticks and stones" bullshit. World War 3 will be won by some faction.

Best comment thus far (10/28/2015):
I heard recently that the science that the concept of mutually assured destruction was based upon was a well intentioned lie. Humans tend to overestimate their importance. Some people are more resistant to radiation than others, and while birth defects increase quite a bit, there are still many healthy babies born in irradiated zones. The main radiation depletes very quickly after the blast, and the cone of wiping out all life on earth is based on the nuclear winter, not radiation. I heard this is also a myth, and that while it would result in a much colder climate worldwide still enough solar radiation would come through the debris clouds to grow plants, and it would be possible to run heaters and UV lamps using nuclear reactors.

Besides, the weather patterns would shift all the debris around so there would be clear spots everywhere anyway from time to time, and I heard that there is no way it would take decades for the dust to settle. Also, by the time the dust settles the radioactivity present in it will most likely have subsided below harmful levels. Some people less than 100 yards from ground zero in Hiroshima survived in open, above ground bomb shelters that were only designed to protect from blasts and shrapnel without any injury. Also, a nuclear bomb that is 1000 times more powerful does not destroy 1000 times the area, because the blast emanates spherically, it requires exponentially increasing energy to expand the blast radius.

Not to say that it's not serious, but just saying the extent of the threat of nuclear weapons has probably been over stated for understandable reasons.

War is simply the continuation of politics by other means. So there can be various degrees of success like in any form of negotiations. It depends on the will of the populations, but also on the resources available. No matter how determined Germany was in world War two, there were simply not the resources in terms of population to sustain the war effort. In this sense a war between China and Russia and NATO would likely be much more protracted. Also, the will of the citizens of NATO is not very strong- this generation is very soft and clearly has no stomach for hardship, so it is likely that the NATO powers would descend into civil war when their luxuries started being curtailed.

Russia and China already have more totalitarian systems in place which would be able to exert a greater level of control, but they are also dependent on a lot of infrastructure, like for the internet, that is based in the West and would be swiftly cut off in a conflict situation. There are enough resources in Siberia and Southeast Asia, which would likely fall under Chinese dominion, as well as Africa, which has a growing Chinese presence, to make for a very protracted conflict. It is likely that Africa would be a major battleground of this conflict due to the the prevalence of rare earths there. Most of the materials used in the electronics we are addicted to are mined in China or Africa, and China would be fairly well insulated from any kind of a direct assault due to the ease of deploying defense systems from Russia through the Siberiań plains, so NATO would likely counter by trying to attack the markets that are the lifeblood of the Chinese economy and limits their access. This would give rise to a revival in American manufacturing as the economic war heated up.

If you want to understand the power, follow the money- while Western backed institutions like the IMF and Bank for International Settlements may be active in the formation of policy in places like Brazil and and India, the new BRICS development bank sponsored by Russia and China will assuredly try to supplant the IMF wherever it can, forming a globalization of resistance to the current dominant schools. Anti American sentiment in South America is also very high due to decades of the US and CIA backing brutal and unpopular dictators there, so you could easily see a bloc of Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, and possibly other states forming against American aligned Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama.

You have intelligent and rational players making the decisions here- Putin's popularity is at an all time high because Russians feel the pride of imperial glory returning, however, nobody is going to take any unnecessary risks. It is a simple question of what can be gained. I heard someone once say that in Chinese the word for "crisis" and "opportunity" are the same word.

In Western Asia Russia sees an opportunity to expand its influence through an emerging shiite bloc composed of Iran, Iraq, and Syria, putting pressure on US backed Saudi Arabia by backing Shia in Yemen. This gambit is likely to fail in the long run because of the preponderance of Sunnis in the region, but they can be used simultaneously to secure a presence in the Eastern Mediterranean and to block access for Qatari gas to the large and lucrative European market which is currently the lifeblood of the Russian economy, and would be threatened by a consolidation of NATO power in Western Asia.
In other words, all Russia really has to do in order to win in West Asia is to not lose. This means a stalemate is actually a desirable outcome, and the present offensive in Aleppo is likely more defensive then genuinely aimed at retaking territory.
It would honestly be very hard to estimate who will win this war since there are many factors that cannot be calculated, but I think it is safe to say it will not be like World War 2 where you had a decisive victory in a few short years, but it is rather more likely to be like the wars of the middle ages that spanned generations. I  would expect it to last at least three generations, and by the time something resembling "victory" is finally obtained, the political landscape will probably have changed so much that the winner may not even be recognizable to us.

Of course, looking at history is the best way to determine the future, and we can see that fortunes have been fluctuating between West and East, with Roman and Persian empires going at it for centuries. The last few centuries have been characterized by dominance of the inheritors of the western Roman empire, now known as NATO, due to a surge of resources resulting from the conquest of the Americas. This momentum is starting to run out though, and you can see the economic center of gravity of the world shifting to the east, causing the Indian and Pacific Oceans to eclipse the Atlantic as the most important bodies of water. Control of the Atlantic belongs pretty completely to NATO, but as the Atlantic declines in importance expect the battle to heat up in the pacific, where the Russians and Chinese have a much stronger presence.

nobody wins

What is the best solution to resolve our problem in overpopulation?

There is no easy solution and with every solution comes a downside. When you try to fix something you always cause a future problem. That is life.
193  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why are rich countries rich and poor countries poor? on: July 24, 2017, 08:56:38 PM
So I was just surfing the web during my downtime and the internet being a rabbit hole that it is, I realized I got to this page....  http://www.scienceagogo.com/news/20010817233944data_trunc_sys.shtml

Having read Guns, Germs and Steel before (as well as watching the documentary on Youtube), I was really surprised that the difference can be attributed to simple things like frost.

This got me thinking, if you believe the poor countries are already locked in to their fate by the cards dealt them, does this mean they are blameless for their current situation? Did colonialism really messed them up or it simply exacerbated an existing problem? And how can poor countries overcome the challenges to becoming 1st-World?

I don't believe people are locked if they open there minds to the countless opportunities. The problem in some of the less affluent countries is the fact that many have to focus on just getting a meal on the table and cannot see the bigger opportunities around the corner.
194  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people pray? on: July 24, 2017, 08:42:35 PM
If you really think about it, you are being a total douche when you pray for anything

You are basically telling god... that you know what is best, more than god does

By praying, you are saying...
"Hey god, I know you don't want to give me a new car, but I want it anyway"
"Screw your perfect/divine plan god, I want a new car... me me me me me me, it's all about me"

If it is god's will... why are you trying to change god's will?

Do you really think you know better than god does?

Or, are people just selfish and don't care what god has planned?

Personally I am not telling God what to do when I pray. I am asking for his wisdom ,guidance and grace. I believe God is all powerful and he ask us to pray so why would I not do so. If he has asked for people to pray to him it only stands to reason that he listens and judges accordingly to the worthiness of your prayers.

As with everything else in life, all is OK in moderation

True. Everything is about quantity. Lost my brother to alcohol but if you can limit yourself to one or to drinks it is fine
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Desktp wallet for each altcoin? on: July 24, 2017, 07:08:11 PM
Keep in mind some of the smaller, shadier coins could have viruses embedded in their wallets.

If you are running Windows 10 Pro, you should look into virtualization, and run a different OS for each wallet.

Thank you, So good to know as I am new to this
