It is very unlikely that BTC will grow to 20 000$ in the 2017. This can only happen if there is a persov who will increase the capitalization of the cryptocurrency in one jump against the background of its overall decline.

I think drops are caused by decrease in capitalization (a lot of participants take off their profit, some others need in real money on New Year's Eve).
Also the cryptocoins exchange rate depends largely on BTC as the most stable coin.

IMHO the good way is to invest into ZCASH. It looks stable enough. At the beginning on Nov 2017 I invested about 100$ in it and I'm going to invest in it at the beginning of 2018 (after New Year's boom).

I would not be so sure of Litecoin success. At the beginning of 2017 it also had some increase. But for most of the year it was lying on the bottom.
