Anyone appears "shipped" at Bitmain?
2014-06-30 14:11:35 --- Order Date And NO SHIPPING notice YET!! You'll probably see the status change from 'unshipped' to 'shipped' with the tracking information when you logon to your account at Bitmaintech's web site. Bitmain said that batch 1 would be shipped 14 to 17 of July. Cheers

Hello everyone,
When we were doing the first mass production, we found that not all of the S3’s DC/DC module could be stable enough to support the 478GH/s speed. After long time testing, all of the S3 run stably at 441GH/s, which however is 7.7% less than the 478GH/s we have announced.
So we decide the final specification of ANTMINER S3 here:
Hash Rate: 441 GH/s or more Power Consumption: about 340 Watt at the wall when running at 441GH/s Power Efficiency: 0.77 J/GH on wall Power Supply: 12V DC Size: 331 mm x 137 mm x 160 mm Fans: Two 14038 fans mounted on both front and back ends. Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 35 °C Complied with: FCC / CE Network Connection: Ethernet
Many of the customers may be lucky to find that their S3 can be overclocked to 478GH/s.
We apologize for this incident. We offer two options for customers:
1) 10.0% worth of coupon for the B1~B3 customers. This is the default option. (10% based on what you have paid for the B1~B3) 2) 7.7% worth of refund. We will release a function on our official website for application of this option. If you have bought from our resellers, please contact them and provide your Bitcoin address.
Shipping schedule updated:
Batch 1: The shipping will be finished in 14th and 17th. Batch 2: It will be shipping out between 18th and 19th. Batch 3: It will be shipping out between 19th and 22nd.
Dear Mr Bitmain Thank you for being honest and upfront with us and generous with your compensation. I have many S1's and a few S2's humming away in the background as I write this, all of these units have performed very well and I have been extremely happy with them. Regarding the S3 compensation, we in Australia have a law that items under AUD$1000 comes into the country without paying customs fees and taxes, once we go over AUD$1000 then fees and taxes kick in and we have to pay around $220 extra in fees and taxes. This may apply to other countries as well, I am not sure The price of 2 X S3 comes in at just on that AUD $1000 limit, when I ordered batch 1, I worked out the price at AUD$990, but this fluctuates with currency and BTC price movements. Are you going to reduce the purchase price for customs declarations because of this compensation? Because I would prefer the coupons but if the declared value is over $1000 then I would prefer the 7.7% price decrease to keep the total dollar amount under the $1000 limit, could you please advise how much you are now going to declare the value of these S3's now thanks again for your great products +1 I added a note on my order, to reflect the value at order time. Note that while the shipping is 'free', that would have some value/cost, so even with BTC to AUD fluctuations, the actual value of 2 S3's would fall under the customs threshold. Cheers PS. My batch #1 order is still 'unshipped'

I heard the first shipment got hijacked by 3 lowered Civics with green neon lights, anyone got any details?
Lol, I hope the 1st batch wasn't so small it could be carried away by 3 Civics! It wasn't hijacked, these are special UPS express vehicles to deliver miners for the forum posters who complained the most about the insufferable shipping delays. LOL ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Tried both cgminer 4.4.1 on Win7 and the latest rpi image. Thanks!

You don't have to be an electrician or scientist to know that power=current x voltage. If you know how to read, you might discover that the 'power spec' of your power supply is a 'global' number for all voltage rails, not the 12V rails that are relevant to your miner (Antminer S1). Saying that your PSU has 1300W capacity is irrelevant to its use for a miner. You need to find the detailed spec of your specific power supply and check how much each rail and each power connector can provide. Make sure that your power supply capacity (with a safety margin) handles the specified load of your miner. IMHO using so called 'modular' power supplies is wrong, as the extra interface connectors are an additional opportunity for failure (guess what melted in your case - the 8 pin 'modular' connectors). Using a power supply with 'hard wired' wiring is 'less tidy', more reliable and cheaper.
As pointed out earlier, consider yourself lucky that the only thing melted are those connectors/wires. Thanks for sharing your story.

AVG now detects it (MAntMonitor v2.5) as 'unknown potential virus'. Manually added to exception list.

Has any S3 been shipped yet from Bitmain? I'm in batch 1, and status is still 'unshipped' (I know, it is supposed to be shipped between 10 and 20th of July... ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

But I need 1 TH/s asic ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Why stop at 1 TH/s? ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) or if you want to get a 'taste' of bitcoin mining, start smaller. The suggestion of Bimain Antminer S3 is probably an excellent one. 2 of these will give you close to 1 TH/sec. You could also think about the older Antminer S2 which is 'all in one' 1 TH/s. Cheers

If you follow the guide it should get you where you want to be as long as you have pool information to give it.
My initial impression is that it is about the most difficult piece of equipment I have ever dealt with. I am trying to change the IP address of the miner back to what was originally printed on the miner: 192.168.1.99, something I will need to do since my router's address is 192.168.1.1 Then it says "Waiting for changes to apply" indefinitely. Then when I tried to log on with 192.168.1.1, it doesn't work. So I press the reset button and am back to square one. It's very simple. You just need to follow the instructions 'to the letter'. If your router's address is 192.168.1.1 you can leave the antminer S1 at 192.168.1.99. You can reset it back to the original 192.168.1.99 by pressing and holding the small reset switch on the controller board for about 3 seconds. Make sure that your router address space covers the intended antminer address, (otherwise the antminer may not be covered by the router's address translation). Optional things that you can do are: if your router supports IP address reservation, reserve your Antminer address (192.168.1.99 if you leave it at 'factory default') for this device. The IP reservation is usually for the mac address of the device (which you can when you log into the web gui of the antminer, click on the Network tab and copy the WAN mac address that looks like "MAC-Address: 10:B1:A0:B3:35:27"). This reservation makes sure that this IP address will not be assigned to another device by the router's DHCP mechanism. Suggest to leave the antminer with fixed IP address (not DHCP), and use only the WAN. Use the wired connection. (and if you do change the Antminer's IP address, write it down and try logging to it with the new address....not the old one) Cheers

I use stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 in the pool configuration screen (Antminer then displays " http://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333" in the status screen). On initial power-up or reboot it takes a while for the status screen to show anything (abt 1 minute). I hope that you got your antminers going by now Cheers

Interesting. If the price is right, this could be a good packaging solution. Please post results of noise level and temperature readings.

Using 12 panels of 190W each with a 3KW inverter (originally wanted to have a 3KW system, but on installation we found that it wouldn't fit on the roof). All professionally installed and legally connected to the electricity utility through their meter. The feed-in tariff is fairly small, so using it to offset the electricity provider's cost makes a lot of sense. I'm getting 6 AU c/KWh as a feed-in tariff, while my provider charges about 54 AU c/KWh during peak time (there is a time-of-use formula, which I won't go into right now). This system produces more than 7 KWh/day during winter time (now, down under), and about 13 KWh/day during sunnier seasons. It is a completely conventional installation, so I won't post any photos. The miners are just connected to standard residential electricity outlets, and do not care if the electrons come from the roof or the utility. There used to be a subsidized generous feed-in tariff here, which made PV systems very attractive, but the politicians decided that they can't afford the subsidy, so it was terminated. It doesn't fully supply all the bitcoin mining needs, but helps put a slight dent in the energy bill.

Made my first bitmain order. Anyone know how long it takes to get a payment verification email?
I don't think that I ever got a 'payment verification email' from Bitmain. Just log onto your account on the Bitmain web site, if on the order list it says that the status is 'Paid Unshipped Valid' then you are fine. If you click on 'view' for that order, you'll see the order details and that should say 'Pay confirm'. I usually print a pdf copy of the order 'just in case'. When it ships, sometimes you may get email notification, however the order status on the Bitmain page will provide the shipping status and tracking information, which you should then follow with whoever ships your miner (my preference is UPS, as they have been much more reliable than DHL, usually UPS delivered it ahead of the projected ETA). My U2's are on a powered hub, and they are working fine. Does your U2 work when you plug it directly into the USB port, and stops working with the extension cable? If that is the case, try another cable, probably one that is shorter and thicker (some USB extension cables are meant for data, and have too thin conductors with too much resistance to cope with the demands of a relatively high powered device).
Good luck

You probably need to look also at the temperatures of both. On the bright side, each of these found 2 blocks, if that is correct you're a lucky person! Which pool are you running those on?
Cheers
|
|
|
It may depend on the pool that you are using, and how the pool calculates the hash rate. On some pools it is a 60 minute average and may depend on the start time of the block. Your mining software (such as cgminer or bfgminer) will have a few readings (5 sec, average, accepted, discarded, HW errors), you should do some reading on their meaning and on how your pool(s) report your hash rate.
Cheers

Do you mean Antminer U1 or U2? Perhaps your USB extension cable has too much DC resistance for the power needs of the USB miner. If it runs ok when you connect it directly to the port, but stops working with the extension cable, that is most probably the reason. Try to find another extension cable (a shorter one is likely to have lower losses) or get a powered USB 2.0 hub and use that with your U1/2 Antminer.
Cheers
