Okay, which one of you told his parents about Bitcoin on Thanksgiving?  Cheesy

A push above $20k would really be the icing on the cake now.

Observing 300btc worth of sell orders neatly stacked every $500 from 20k up to 23k on coinbase.
183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 03, 2020, 10:51:17 PM
While it would be cool to have a run over 20k, the very fact that it has been sitting in the 19k's for days now is just causing me to giggle like Skeletor.

Hahaha I'm "occasionally" checking the price throughout the day and then saying to myself "Not yet..."

It is pretty awesome to see what looks like stability at these numbers. I suspect we won't stay here for much more than a week before some volatility returns.

If ever those whales will sell  their shares in GBTC, Grayscale will be forced to sell. No discretionality in GBTC head.

I'm thinking with the amount of money they are playing with and the lucrative business they have created, it's unlikely they would easily allow their customers to bail.

Too much greed when it comes to money and making money.

However, what do I know? I've been wrong more than once in my life.

Time for a new poll?

Maybe a guess on the AYH for end of the year?

Observing consolidation going on right around the $19k mark for the past few days.  Dare I say... temporary stability?

Quote
After years of investigative research into the trillions of dollars missing from the U.S. government, former Wall Street banker and former Assistant Secretary of Housing and Federal Urban Development in the first Bush Administration, Catherine Austin Fitts has come to the conclusion that global debt may very well be owned by off-planet entities who operate plant earth as a real estate investment.

Regarding frugality: once you go frugal, it is difficult to come back...everything looks darn expensive, causing buyer's remorse.
On the other hand, giving descendants a 50-100 year rein in luxury-why bother? Nothing productive comes out of it, typically.

As for how much to pass on to your kids, Warren Buffett once offered a good rule of thumb: the perfect amount to leave to your kids, he told Fortune in 1986, is "enough money so that they would feel they could do anything, but not so much that they could do nothing."

Source: CNBC Make It

Which is a stupid statement/decision btw. I mean, If I were given a few million dollars without having ever made any effort maybe I would probably just settle on that and just do nothing but "live comfortably". But... if I were given one of the biggest fortunes in the world, I would probably focus on both trying to be the #1 and change the world for the better. YMMV.

He should better focus on educating their heirs to go on with his "project" when he is gone than just thinking about how much resources he should left them as if that was more important than the former.

That being said, it will be nice if he leaves the most of it to charity....

I always liked the idea of being "a well off person" and being able to leave a large amount of money for my kids in a special account.  They wouldn't know about it until they were maybe 35.  The hope is that they would spend the first 35 years of their life working and grinding through this thing called life.  After gaining access to life changing money at 35 they would then know what it is like to live without it therefore, creating a deeper meaning and understanding of the windfall.  At least in theory...

Think about what you really want and what makes you truly happy .

To not die; to not age; to experience continuous growth (not in the pituitary gland/gigantism way...)

You could try vampirism...

Quote
Don't do things to make others happy

In my experience when you do something solely to make someone else happy it makes you unhappy and bitter.  It can destroy that relationship and result in a bad situation for both people.  You resent that person for making you feel like you had to sacrifice your choice or happiness to help them obtain theirs or their perception of you.  It usually backfires and creates a worse situation.

For example... a father pressures his son to following in his family's footsteps as a doctor when what the son really wants to do is be a software developer.  The son begins down the path of schooling and requirements to become the doctor his father always wanted him to be.  One day the son realizes he is truly unhappy in this career and choses to follow his passion of software development.  He drops out of school and his father is angry at him for the wasted time, money, and for not achieving the "ideal career path".  The son resents his father for the same reasons as well as himself for never following his own passion.

Sometimes you just have to be you and stand up for yourself.  Being "selfish" is often looked at as a negative term... let's refer to it as self-love then.

Doing something to make someone else happy because it also makes you happy is a different thing...

t is the ultimate marshmallow challenge.  Many of us have lowered our time preference so much we are just not going to let go of much even when it does go up quite a bit.

For me personally the formula revolves around comfortable retirement and a little diversification into property.  I just don't want to spend much money on stupid shit, or even living large.  And I am acutely aware that the longer I wait the more I will be left with in the end.

That is where the real crux is, in my opinion.  Where that point is for each whale/minnow.

You sir, are very wise.

Anyone not following a similar recommendation/approach is going to end up with massive regrets before they die.

I see so many here joking about blowing their bitcoin "winnings" on fancy cars, frivolous shit and such, and inwardly I know some of them aren't really joking.

In recent years I've come to fully believe and trust in "the pursuit of happiness".  It sounds cliché but, it is the best compass for an individual's life decisions... in my opinion.

This obviously looks different for everyone.  For some folks, the thought of having a stash of inheritance for their kids, or family, really fulfills their hopes and desires for their life.  They choose to save and be frugal and invest in other activities in their life (even if they have the money to do other "cooler" things).

For others the thought of blowing cocaine off of expensive hookers ass's while they are passed out on one of their lambos could be described as their happiness.

For many (most) others our happiness lies somewhere in between but, shifts back and forth during our life cycle.

The toughest part about finding your "happiness compass" is laying down all of the social, family, and cultural pressures that are bestowed upon you.  Be a little selfish and dig down deep. Think about what you really want and what makes you truly happy .  Don't do things to make others happy or obtain their expectations of you... you will end up being bitter and resenting them or yourself.

This all sounds a little cliché but, since I have embraced this fully, I've never regretted a single life decision from that point on and I am far and above happier than I've ever been in my life before.  I've made some REALLY tough decisions over the years many of which affected my immediate family and friends.  However, assuming I have 10 seconds of thoughts prior to my last breathe, I can leave this world knowing that all is well and I've got no regrets.

Don't forget what Hal Finney predicted more than ten years ago, or rather his napkin math calculation. (TLDR = $10m USD / BTC) Still, that's going to take a few more years (perhaps another decade.)

I came to $3M / BTC after a quick calculation (roughly $60 Trillion divided by 21 million) while pondering the idea of GBTC buying more BTC daily than mined daily. On the latter: if that's the case and we are truly in a new phase where there is relentless and relatively price agnostic buying on a continued basis above daily coin production, the question is simply:

=> at what point are HOLDlers willing to start parting with their coins?

I don't know how I could gauge that or make an educated guess on where that level would be. My gut reaction would be that $50k would make a few large holdlers nervous and that $100k can be expected to be a big 'cash out' (=redistribute) moment.

If anyone has a better scientific approach to this, let that person step forward.

The 100k mark will be interesting, yes Hodlers will sell some large amounts to fund 100k parties across the globe, but as much of these funds will be given to hookers and coke dealers attending the parties, we can expect said whores and dealers to want in on the action and to invest much of their earnings into Bitcoin.

FYI

*Edit - at current prices of said coke and BTC

It is a weird feeling to be upset about corn being stuck between 19 and 19.5... we're spoiled.

People/friends started asking about investment in bitcoin.
I tread carefully. The problem is that they always first ask about bitcoin and few months later it turned out that they changed it to something else.
You cannot teach someone a life experience.

Sadly I got a friend into Bitcoin and he got burned daytarding Ripple.  We don’t speak of it again.

What bothers me is that many new folks enter into the crypto world and are bombarded with statements like...

"You can get rich day trading alts!"
"Bitcoin already had its day, you should buy (insert shitcoin) instead!"
"(insert shitcoin) is ready for its big bull run!"

Sadly, I know many people who fell into these traps and got burnt.  It turned them off to crypto for good.

Observing relatively low volume compared to the 2017 happening.  I remember seeing 40k to 60k BTC/24 hours on coinbase near and around the 2017 ATH.

I wonder what price we will see when we are 40k+ BTC/24 hours on coinbase.

Here I am in the Wall Observer thread in November 2020, when for the first time in quite a while, it seems there's some significant Walls to Observe.

Lots of folks wanting to cash in now that we're near ATHs again it seems ^_^

Completely understandable. People that bought near the top of the last rally are finally in the green again, so they might be looking to get off the roller-coaster.

My ex wife bought near the ATH a few years ago due to FOMO.  I'm sure she has long since forgot about her coins.  I've been contemplating if I should tell her to check (resulting in instant selling) or do her a favor and not mention anything to her...

#MoralDelema

Surely sounds like an outlier case to buy and to completely ignore for nearly 3 years.

We are talking about someone who loses about one phone a year and can't find her car in a parking lot during the day time...

Ex wife update:

The non follower has discovered the recent rise in BTC.  Called me to see how she can sell her bitcoin.  #LooseHands

https://news.bitcoin.com/coinbase-20-billion-cryptocurrency-custody-institutional-investors/

"Coinbase has revealed that it has had “an explosion of incoming capital.” Its assets under custody currently stand at $20 billion, $14 billion of which were accumulated since April. Coinbase highlights a string of bullish events that have “really unleashed” a wave of institutional adoption."

Also...

"Tejpaul further shared what a typical day for him is like on the podcast. “By 9:30 in the morning, I had five separate institutional clients called to invest over $100 million each.” He explained that people sitting on the sideline “are now looking at major banks, major accounting firms, major hedge funds, major endowments, and now Paypal getting into this space,” concluding:

It’s really unleashed a second wave of institutional adoption."

I remember watching the 3,000 BTC sell wall at $10k get eaten alive in a matter of minutes on GDAX years ago.  Looks like a 1,000 BTC sell wall at $19k now.  Likely an appetizer before the main course.
